2:54 That’s so true, I felt the same way when I watched that scene. In the anime, her death was so much darker. In the live action she just died, that’s all.
I’m so happy you decided to put Helmeppo and Koby where they belong bc I was gonna riot. Also, I think Zoro should’ve ranked higher and Mihawk is literally the best anime to live action character adaptation I’ve ever seen, right with Iñaki as Luffy.
I didn't like what they did to Nojiko. In the Manga, she was such a chill supportive sister willing to take action against Arlong. The only reason she got her tattoos was out of solidarity with nami, yet in the LA they took all her character traits and made her super unsympathatic. On the other Hand, Bo D. gard was nailed the most.
100%!! This was my biggest complaint too. Her sister and the villagers LOVED Nami and were willing to fight (and die) for her after her treasure got stolen. Nojiko was done dirty in this live adaptation.
Nojiko is just ugly and unlikable. Dunno what people find in her. In the manga she was hotter than Nami, more courageous when it came to the fight, and more chill overall. So she was a perfect older sister. Here she's just a furniture. That does nothing, represents nothing and achieves nothing.
Arlong Park was definitely the biggest miss for me, in my opinion. It honestly brought the show down a whole point for me (and almost another half point when I saw that Genzo had no pinwheel lol). Their decision to have the villagers and Nojiko not know of Nami’s true intentions watered down the emotional payoff by quite a bit and was really just baffling, considering how on point the creators had been for the most part with their changes. The other big thing that I didn’t care for I can at least understand the reasoning behind it. I always thought Luffy’s indifference to learning of Nami’s past really indicative of his character: he had already decided that Nami was a good person and his friend so the backstory was irrelevant to him. Just total, unwavering confidence in his friends and himself. They’re clearly trying to give Luffy more emotional depth and have him be more self-reflective, which does make sense, but I think he loses an essential piece of Luffiness in the process.
bellemere went out like a champ in the anime. I wish they could have recreated the scene of her lighting her cigarette before she shoves a gun in arlongs mouth.
I actually met the actor of ussop at convention center in Indianapolis and I got a sneak peak and I might be in the next season 😁 I can’t say which character I’m being because it will give away the whole next season 😅
I agree. Among the strawhats Zoro is on the very least for me which is odd because everyone talks about him (definitely being a handsome asian man there's just no way twitter won't be on their knees) and I feel like you watered down your comments about him HAHA. But yeah, he did good but I feel like there could've been another perfect Zoro out there somewhere. And the writing... where is his goofy side?? I miss that. His comeback remarks feel more like on the edgy side and not Zoro being zoro
I think he was well cast, probably the weakest of all the straw hats, but still pretty good. I think the problem with him was the script, rather than the actor, so I would have placed him in perfect casting, since I believe it was the script's fault that he was kinda odd.
I never was a big fan of One Piece, it just never caught my curiosity and didn't hook me when I initially tried it, BUT BOY OH BOY was the live adaptation really good! I knew a bunch of the story bits/spoilers from friends who like to talk about the contents of episodes, so I knew most of the story up to Arlong Park, and Koby/Garp stuff, and I think the way they handled the marines, Koby, Helmeppo and Garp was drastically better, and my friends that love the show pretty much all loved it too. Buggy and Mihawk (edit- oh, and Garp and Zeff) are tied for #1 for favorite portrayals, followed closely by all of the Strawhat crew and Shanks. I think they all did very well where there wasn't really anyone that I heavily disliked. ALSO I love that they shot so much of the show practically and on site at Cape Town South Africa for that crystal clear water, built the sets including the boats, and used makeup to make the characters look the way they do instead of relying on CGI too much. Like obviously they used CG, but it was sparingly enough where the world felt lived in and real! All in all, I'm excited for season 2, hope they keep going strong, and while I wait, I've been watching One Piece from the beginning in a new light :)
I've watched the entire live action with Japanese dub, because why not, right? And since they kept the original voice actors for the characters from the anime - the delivery of the lines was perfect. Which means the only thing I could complain about would be actual acting. And there is nothing there to complain about, really... For a lot of these characters they were accepted quickly by the community when the anime was in its infancy because of the voice actors pouring their souls into molding these characters to perfection. It shows they can deliver any line as their characters effortlessly. And the live action cast obviously put a lot of hours into mannerisms and little quirky actions that can easily go over the heads of the new viewers but are top level details for the hardcore fans of 25 years. As for the ranking itself - I'm pretty much on the exact same page as Jack with the cast, few could've been done better with more screen time or meaningful interactions with other characters, but some of them will probably get that chance later if the show hits it off with more amazing seasons.
Zepher, yes he did not have many lines. But it washow he presented himself. He cared about Sanji but knew Sanji would waste his talents there. He understood Garp, two old rivals now friends to a degree. He nailed the cranky forward appearance and softness when Sanji left. You can make a whole character study how to make a character work as well as that actor did Zepher. He just 100% that role and the costume department nailed his look
A pet peeve of Ussop's fight is the ketchup. I'm unreasonably pissed off by it. It feels like it was just thrown in for it being there. He plays dead and one second later he screams at Chew, making it meaningless. There's no moment of hesitation or using it for a sneak attack. It feels like it could be cut out and nothing would change. But the rest of the series is prety good, this just something that I find supremely annoying.
Ben Beckmann was _not_ the actor's fault. It was that his hair and make-up sort of made him feel like an afterthought. Like they said, "We got Lucky Roux and Yassop in there but we need to have Ben Beckmann." "Uh... Let's put him here." Garp was perfect. Garp's immaturity would not translate to live action. They were able to keep the essence of Garp without and still have you buy into him being a Marine Vice-Admiral and someone who deserves that rank. I would say the only difference is that this Garp kind of uses that "Hero of the Marines" moniker whereas the manga/anime one couldn't care less about it. Genzo was a miss for me because they cut out his two big scenes, telling Nami the village knew what she was doing the whole time and making Luffy promise that Nami would come home safely. Captain Morgan was not that bad of a captain in the Live-Action, IMO. Yes, he was tough and not the brightest but the one in the manga was way worse. Manga Morgan was actively killing his own men. Usopp was also a miss but that's not Jacob's fault. Syrup Village cut out a lot of Usopp's characterization. Shame on you for not putting Bogards in this video! lol
I don't have Netflix, so I didn't watch the show, but wanted to know what it ended up looking like for all those characters and ended on this video. I could not tell that was Benn Beckman. Everyone else I remembered I knew who they were and those I had to look up I got, but Benn is nothing like his counterpart, which is such a shame because of the rest of Shanks crew are great.
I would prefer if they stuck to the way he died in the anime. Where ussop threw the alcohol He caught it and then he shot the fire star. It shows ussops quick thinking and strategic mind.
@@bendover7841yall ain't ready for his glowup in season 2 or 3 when we see him again. My man is taking all these comments to heart, he'll come back a beast!
I think they did an absolutely great job with the amount of episodes they had. Nothing was drawn out and every episode really slaps. So, even though some of the characters may have been a slight miss, I think with the time constraints everything was awesome. I wouldn't change anything. I will say, Sanji was one of my favorite characters. That actor is fantastic
Remember, Alvita eats a devil fruit that makes her a thin beautiful woman, before she goes to Loguetown, that even Luffy didn't recognize! So the actress that played Alvita in the beginning will either have to transform herself or another actress will have to come in to fit Alvita's Devil fruit change after becoming slippery and thin from the fruit effects.
If we get to season 3 and we don’t see Chopper D. Plug I might just cry myself to sleep after binging it, but I might also cry myself to sleep when I do see him. Only difference is one is happy, one is sad.
17:54 He's SANJI GIRLIE confirned!💅 I watched the whole vid I swear... buuut I also came here to hear opinions about MY MAN SANJI. The actor did the anime justice, plus with a bonus cake 🍑 that I didn't know i needed AND my gaaawd that accent!? (that lil spicy white accent🔥) Can't wait for season 2
I'm absolutely in love with Luffy and Sanji, and Nami and Zoro grew on me, but.... I dunno... Usopp's energy is off. He's not very quick-witted and I found most of his jokes(?) grating :/ Also Usopp was the least developed--like, his entire arc was used for Kaya and Helmepo. Not disappointed with the improvements in those two, but it's a strange choice to ignore an actual crew member in favor of them small-time fellows. That said, I've got my fingers crossed for Usopp next season, cuz hopefully he'll get a few more moments to shine. Or at very least the writers could give us an actual reason to like him beyond the actor just being cute.
Hey Jack i wanted to know if u are going to do a pre time-skip arcs tierlist, i think it would be so cool. Btw, i love ur reactions and keep doing what you do because you are simple the best doing it, xoxo❤
The only mistake they missed in the live action is when luffy encounters koby (in the anime) He hits him Punches him Slaps him Any type of hitting works But in the liveaction(as far as i remember) he doesent hit him a single time.
Nah he does slap Koby when their on their little dinghy going to Shells town What I hate is that Koby never got his moment yelling at Alvida, Luffy just talks for him, which is pretty annoying imo
Older viewer. Have been watching anime on and off for at least 30 years, but never got into one piece (side note I have lived in Japan for short periods). Have been massively depressed by hollywood offerings of late, but One Piece blew my mind. I do think Sanji's back story was the most well done and compelling (Nami's probably second). It was good to see strong male characters with flaws and female characters with flaws who overcome those flaws (Nami's arc was amazing). As a person new to the One Piece series my biggest main cast issue was Usopp. It could be that i'm just not used to his character, but the acting seemed very weak for his first few episodes (like he hadn't figured out the character yet), and then got stronger near 7 & 8 (but that may be because I liked the character more?)
I think the live action nerfed Zoro a bit and buffed Sanji, but I think it works. Sanji is my least favorite Straw Hat, and I liked him a lot more in the live action (though I also found him less annoying during this arc of the anime than I do later, so we’ll see). And Zoro is so OP in the original, power-wise and character-wise, that he can be nerfed in the live action and still be a lot of people’s favorite. One thing I don’t think worked as well is the relationship between Zoro and Sanji. Their bickering comes across as a lot more one-sided in the live action where Zoro just doesn’t like Sanji for no apparent reason. In the original it kind of starts when Sanji tells Zoro he’s an idiot for being willing to die for his dream of beating Mihawk. Then little things just start to build up from them both being really competitive to having very different worldviews when it comes to women, shown when Sanji fusses at Zoro for roughly shoving Nami out of the way of an attack. It’s a lot more obvious that the beef between them is mutual and comes from how differently they view the world. In the live action, Zoro just seems like an insecure jerk. Though, I’ve seen a lot of One Piece newbies seeing their relationship as brothers who can’t get along but always have each other’s backs, so maybe the live action portrays them better than I think it does.
As a live action only fan, I think there's plenty to the Zoro-Sanji dynamic in there, it's just easy to miss on the first viewing because of the pace of the show by the time they actually get screen time together. Again, this is all very much just my interpretation of it, so it could be I'm reading a lot more into it than what is actually there, but I think that it can be argued that it's not that Zoro's insecure, rather he's a lot less trusting than Luffy is, which is why he takes Nami's betrayal so badly and why, right after that betrayal, he doesn't welcome the idea of someone who is essentially a stranger to him joining the crew. Also, I don't think it's all that one-sided, I think if it were, Sanji would have tried a more diplomatic response to Zoro, rather than snapping right back at him. I think that Sanji's been characterised as someone who's easily riled up when it comes to things he's passionate about, like cooking and women, so it would make sense that the subject of Nami would spark their animosity towards each other. That's where the differing worldviews come in: Zoro is hurt by Nami's betrayal, so of course to him, Sanji comes across as a fool for siding with her when he just met her, seemingly only because she's a pretty woman. Sanji (correctly) intuits that there's more to Nami's betrayal than what meets the eye, so to him, Zoro is being harsh and unfair towards her. Then again, it's weird that either nobody told him that Sanji saved both him and Luffy, or he just doesn't care. I think ultimately, the show wanted to establish this dynamic as soon as possible, but didn't have the time to fully flesh it out. I think that they laid a promising groundwork, and they'll absolutely have plenty of opportunity to really flesh it out in the next season.
4:40 he might've studied heath ledger's joker as in looks to go into uncanny valley but i low-key thought jim carrey was acting buggy the whole time imo one piece live action was good, but why the hell was every seen so claustrophobic, one piece's whole theme is freedom, and a claustrophobic atmosphere is not really full of freedom, is it? 22:03 if you were to tell me they fleshed out zoro's backstory by a canon live action movie/show, by adding an older zoro and casted this guy i think he'd practically just be what oda would base his teen-ish zoro
3:30 ok someone please help me. I don’t know which character this even is. The way Jack reacts to seeing him makes me feel like I should know who he is.
Helmeppo is definitely the one that surprised me the most. Never liked the character in the manga but he's fantastic in the live action.

Helmeppo's cheeks definitely surprised me the most.

Love how the chat was still playing smash or pass😂
That’s because the Arlong arc in this was the most rushed, so her character was a bit glossed over.
@@michaelh9649 i think i saw the pinwheel during the Nami flashback sequence
Its stupid they didnt have jango because then it explains to live action viewers that axe hand morgan was actually hypnotized and not just a liar
bellemere went out like a champ in the anime. I wish they could have recreated the scene of her lighting her cigarette before she shoves a gun in arlongs mouth.
I actually met the actor of ussop at convention center in Indianapolis and I got a sneak peak and I might be in the next season 😁 I can’t say which character I’m being because it will give away the whole next season 😅
good on ya mate
Roger nailed it in that little fraction of time and I am upset that you didn't post your reaction to the show
Dude, I love the way Zeff's braided mustache move as he speaks.
Kuina got the shaft the same way she got the stairs.
Yo what?
Fun fact: When oda seen inaki he laughed and said thats definitely Luffy in real life
Zepher, yes he did not have many lines.
I just love how Ben Beckman got his own category. 😂
He got me with the thumbnail cause I think that the buggy casting was great
Same here. I rage watched the video because of the thumbnail lol
I love the fact that you fanboy mode so hard on Sanji's Abs 😅😍
Your thumbnail is evil, I really thought you were gonna put Buggy in F/beckman tier. Honestly the list his perfect
The fact the actor for Garp is actually Welsh
glad we all agree on beckmanns casting LMAOOOO
Ben Beckmann was _not_ the actor's fault. It was that his hair and make-up sort of made him feel like an afterthought. Like they said, "We got Lucky Roux and Yassop in there but we need to have Ben Beckmann." "Uh... Let's put him here."
Garp was perfect.
Shame on you for not putting Bogards in this video! lol
Benn Beckman is on a whole another level ...
Mackenyu Zoro is my favorite ,he has a strong presence.
Inaki Luffy is 2nd, he is so charming.
Nami/ Emily third.
Bro your description just made me love this show 1,000 times more than I already did before anime and live action
I laughed so hard abkut your comment on Jango moonwalking in the mansion randomly. 😂
Out of all the removed characters, I despise them for excluding onion, pepper, and carrot
No Makino? (Perhaps she can share the place with Benn Beckman.) Higuma the Bandit? Koushirou-sensei (Zoro's master and Kuina's father)?
I would prefer if they stuck to the way he died in the anime. Where ussop threw the alcohol He caught it and then he shot the fire star. It shows ussops quick thinking and strategic mind.
The best surprises was the smart way they kept Garp/Koby/Helmeppo in the story in a natural feeling way and of course Buggy.
I love the fact that Luffy's casting didn't even get any explanation. his was just naturally perfect 😂❤
They violated Ben Beckman 💀
Ben Beckmann was just in his Bulking phase bruh
@@bendover7841yall ain't ready for his glowup in season 2 or 3 when we see him again. My man is taking all these comments to heart, he'll come back a beast!
@@_Gullible_ oh you better believe he's coming back with a Baki physique.

Helmeppo was perfect for me because of the way the actor was nailing the laughing
you are so real about Sanji, I started SHIVERING the second I saw him on screen
Your ranking of the strawhat casting is literally the reverse of mines 😂
I think they did an absolutely great job with the amount of episodes they had. Nothing was drawn out and every episode really slaps. So, even though some of the characters may have been a slight miss, I think with the time constraints everything was awesome. I wouldn't change anything.
I will say, Sanji was one of my favorite characters. That actor is fantastic
This is such an epic video wohoo!!
During that scene where shanks was staring at the monster and said get lost he was actually using conquerors hockey
17:54 He's SANJI GIRLIE confirned!💅
I watched the whole vid I swear... buuut I also came here to hear opinions about MY MAN SANJI.
Or at very least the writers could give us an actual reason to like him beyond the actor just being cute.
not the entire chat playing Smash or Pass in the Chat during the entire video
Great ranking!!!
Hey Jack i wanted to know if u are going to do a pre time-skip arcs tierlist, i think it would be so cool.
Btw, i love ur reactions and keep doing what you do because you are simple the best doing it, xoxo❤
I love that idea bro. I hope Jack sees this
It is on the agenda 👀
@@JackTheBus now we wait!
Did you see Crocodile?
Do you think Jango could hypnotize a devil fruit user into being able to swim?
It’s going to be interesting what kind of actress they get for Robin
helmeppo was the best by far, portrayed perfectly
6:11 I mean i he is called lips by buggy for a reason Netflix can’t remake his iconic look
The only mistake they missed in the live action is when luffy encounters koby (in the anime) He hits him
Punches him
Slaps him
Any type of hitting works
But in the liveaction(as far as i remember) he doesent hit him a single time.
luffy slaps koby across the face in the live action
Nah he does slap Koby when their on their little dinghy going to Shells town
What I hate is that Koby never got his moment yelling at Alvida, Luffy just talks for him, which is pretty annoying imo
They hinted at Richie. When Mohji was holding the sign up Buggy scolded him saying something like somebody forgot to bring their lion.
Buggy went from a goofy guy to a serial killer
ben beckman chilling alone in ben beckman tier
On Nami: Wait….. That’s a wig? I just thought she got a temporary dye or something.
NGL this is the best anime live action and they did Buggy PERFECT 🤩 IT COMPLETELY CAPTURES BUGGYS PERSONALITY SO GOOD 🔥🔥🔥
That was a FIRE list.
Whoever said “I didn’t know nojiko could use haki” in the chat, I LOVE YOU
The rise of Helmeppo and Bogard stocks…!!! CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER???
i feel like the series are gonna be like stranger things like everyone grows up each seasons
I'd say Makino is the only other one that deserves a Ben Beckman tier.
Not having the denden mushi in this tier list is a travesty. Those were so perfectly cursed.
18:46
.......
*A-FUCKING-YO ?!!!?!!??*
BRO IS J A C K E D !
Smoker will take the place of Garp as the through-line marine threat in S2 thats why they teased him lol
INAKI IS THE BEST LUFFY
They did such a good job casting these actors especially buggy and mihawk
LMAO JACK REALLY NAILED THAT LINE AT 19:26 😂😂😂
4:40 he might've studied heath ledger's joker as in looks to go into uncanny valley but i low-key thought jim carrey was acting buggy the whole time
imo one piece live action was good, but why the hell was every seen so claustrophobic, one piece's whole theme is freedom, and a claustrophobic atmosphere is not really full of freedom, is it?
22:03 if you were to tell me they fleshed out zoro's backstory by a canon live action movie/show, by adding an older zoro and casted this guy i think he'd practically just be what oda would base his teen-ish zoro
3:30 ok someone please help me. I don’t know which character this even is. The way Jack reacts to seeing him makes me feel like I should know who he is.
He named the category after the character. Just look up Ben Beckman
I agree with you about everything except for one thing: Taz (Sanji) has the *best* smile, period!
