Please comment below if you have had this issue or know how to go about repairing my GE Appliance... I have settled the replacement with GE and I am somewhat satisfied that it will be replaced but feel it is wasteful that I am having a hard time finding a way to replace what I believe is an electrical or computer error. die to costs of shipping, etc... they will pay retail price of a replacement unit. I am left with the old unit to recycle, donate, repair, burn, store, take to a dump.... but I want to be responsible, I don't want to be wasteful...*** (8/7/2020 description update)
appliance worked fine night before. had a power outage or surge. when power was restored, reset house breakers and ac started up but shut off seconds later and continues to repeat this process when plugs in. the surge protector did not trip on the ac, but I did reset that just in case. when operating, you can hold the power button to turn it on and off but continues to have a red light and beeps continuously. my assumption is there is a blown fuse or sensor or circuit and this should be an easy fix...

@@FaderFlosser from what I've seen, control boards do exist they just have been sold out or unavailable... Guessing because all these units have the same issue. Also, would require soldering, a skill many are not proficient in...
@@clarkkc11 Thanks, I did the hack already and I'm super happy. Plus GE is sending me the certificate so I can get the rebate check after I purchase a new one from Goodwill. One last question, is it ok to leave the AC running for long periods of time since now the compressor is always on or does it not matter? Appreciate it!
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME. MY WINDOW UNIT TURNS ON BUT WON'T BLOW ANY AIR WHATSOEVER. I REALLY CANT AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER UNIT AT THIS SO I'D REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE.
Hello, where can I find the control panel? My air has the same problem as the video.
We should start a class action sue against GE for selling us broken Down A/C we spend our hard earned money.
It's not only GE, I have a Haier and it has the exact same issue, less than 2 years old.
I’m so for that. It not right after we got it like a month later it broke.
Mines 9 months old but only used 2 months I'm so irate right now. It's definitely an electronic issue they should have recalled them instead of putting the burden on the customer of using their money to buy another air conditioner then pay them back 8 weeks later and no reimbursement for the time and effort of installing the air conditioner sealing it uninstalling it reinstalling a new one and disposing of the old one.
Agreed!
I'm in
*Totally impressive **Fastly.Cool** in my room. Wish I designed this myself. We can’t believe how quiet it is. It’s not as heavy as our last AC unit but it works more evenly and efficiently. Extremely happy with this purchase.*
Mine is broken too. Won’t let me use the buttons. I can unplug and some times I can use the buttons after that. But it keep auto tuning tuning to 64 degrees. You come home and it’s freezing cold in the room. Just frustrated. The buttons and hand held remote won’t work. GE needs to fix this problem. To many people with the same problem. They need to recall this piece of junk. And quit ripping people off of hard earn money.
same issue here! thanks for posting - there's a lot of us with the same problem

I have never filed a class action lawsuit before. But with oh so many people, having to deal with the same problems as me, I think that I must.
I got a 22k BTU window air conditioner that looks exactly like this, the thermostat keeps beeping every time it goes off and on but it still maintained a good 68 degrees
Amazing how this issue is affecting so many. Currently my unit is doing this same thing. Good to know GE will help but my two calls into GE resulted in long waits and no help. Attempted to place an online service order twice now but that part of site hasn't been working in two months. Lowes made a bad deal with these units.
Agree! 6th call you may start to have luck...
Don’t accept a service call unless the man brings a circuit board cause that’s the problem with these ac. There’s too much condensation inside. And circuit boards are on back order here in NC
Same exact thing with my ge unit. I called ge and they won't help because I didn't punch in a correct phone number smh
Kenneth and all, thanks for coming together to help me find a work around. I'm pretty good with simple electronics, so kicking on the relays with 5 volts was easy for me. I even wired my old trailer thermostat into it so I have temperature control! Good luck everyone with these units, it's a shame we can't get replacement parts!
Thanks Kurtis and thanks to everyone! Community solutions!
Love your addition of thermostat!
I didn't go as complex as you I think. Here's my fix. ruclips.net/video/sFzz_YUHMh0/видео.html
Kurtis How did you wire in a thermostat?
@@raygarceau7782 I tied compressor on and fan speed high leads to one side of the thermostat. And fan speed low to the other side.
So when the temperature is satisfied it will kick off the compressor and still blow at low fan.

Just got off the phone with GE about one of these units. Though it was out of warranty, they still offered to send a rebate check if I buy a new unit. Worth a shot for anyone looking to replace without doing the bypass workaround!

I’m having the exact problem. I bought this 3 months ago. At least it worked through the heat wave here in New England BUT it won’t work through the next one obviously. How annoying
Just performed your repair/bypass and she is running like a champ again. My wife and I thank you. Unfortunate that it had to come to this being not even a year old. But I'd rather make use of it than go through returning it and dealing with warranty etc.. it blows cold and works now I'll probably hook a timer switch to it for night and day use. Thanks again man

GE should replace all of these or supply repair parts. Unbelievable that a year old AC and no parts to repair it.
had the same problems... but instead I cleaned all of the mineral deposits that were attracting moisture off the circuit board with dry cotton swabs(they were filthy afterwards) . Now it's running perfectly again. I'm going to add that to the periodic maintenance of the unit.
This seems like the fix I'm after. This is my SECOND unit that stopped working in the middle of it's second season.
@@Jonpat did it work?
For those that own this air conditioner (A working unit), I would suggest removing the PC board and spraying it down (front and back) with acrylic spray. Acrylic is a great method to waterproof PCBs
Sounds like a good idea when you buy it new!
Yep, but why did ge not do this? Its like they want them to delibertly fail.
Omg...mine started doing it thus a.m., I'm in Florida & still need as in Feb. I'm gonna go through all the comments, hopefully it's an easy fix.

I went back to lowes website and saw the reviews a year after and a guy posted up pictures of the circuit board apparently catching moisture and routing out because the ac unit is badly engineered with a bad design. The time varies but we have this exact same issue. Even tried bypassing the built in breaker in the plug by replacing with a direct to plug and no dice.
That is the running theme with this beauty... Might just pin your comment here
Literally going through the exact same circuit board issue, right now🤦♀️ took it apart last night & its missing seals, & everything. Idk how they thought these would work properly... It seems that GE knows how crappy this model is bc we are getting a brand new one for free. My husband spoke to them yesterday & They didn't even ask many questions about the issues we were having. Didn't even attempt to send some1 to look at it 😂 just said to peel warranty sticker off & go get another one on the house. I believe they even recommended to get a different model lol Thank God bc this thing has had issues since the day we brought it home!
I just started having this issue today , how can I go about getting a replacement smh
Yep same issue! Power flashed off and back on and has been doing this since.
How did you power flash?
@@MrGrome12 we had some winds this summer and power flashed on and off and a/c hasn’t worked since. After endlessly trying to get through customer service for 4 months- and seeing the many replies on this comment thread.. we are just going to chalk it up to a loss. Which is unfortunate. Owned for just over a year and only 5 months of actual use... $500 down the hole
Have the same problem, Lowes won't take it back its 3 months old, we finally got through to GE and they sent us a new one in the mail!!! and said just dispose of the old one but I want to repair it.
They sent one by mail! They cheaped out on me there...
I have to take a certificate to Goodwill, then pay with my own money and send in the receipt to get a check sent back to me. They don't cover the tax and I don't drive so uber's and tax are going to cost me 100 bucks. Do they just sell new control boards for these?
I had one go out back in june of this year, I bought it in aug. 2019. I called GE and they sent me a goodwill certificate for a new one. Well this new just went out 2 weeks ago and im done with GE. At this point I just want my money back to get a new different brand.
I had the same path... Only my new one is still in the box .. waiting for next summer...
Having this current problem ! I unplugged it trying to save on powerbill while it gets cold here at night and now its acting like this. Only 4 months old!
Oh no! I got my replacement unit, sent my good will certificate back in and I am waiting on my refund. Won't be hooking new one up until next year as it is also getting cold here
@@clarkkc11 unfortunately, here during the day its humid & hot so it’s tough! I’m hoping to discuss with Lowes on what i can do- i am not wanting to have to call the AC company ! Long phone calls are too obnoxious ! But gotta do what i gotta do. I wonder why this hasnt been fixed yet in the system?
I am quiet in this video so you can hear the unit and the problem. Was able to get thru to GE for a good will certificate to buy a new unit... Still hate seeing useful objects get discarded for easily corrected problem. Let me know if you know where I can get parts to fix this unit
Mine is doing the same thing i cycle thru the fan modes it stays on once it turns off thats it just starts resetting itself
Any update on replacement boards? Also did you try spraying acrylic on the board for your replacement?
So mine went out with the same issue this weekend. Unfortunately it went out 2 1/2 months too late, that's when the warranty went out. Called GE to see if I could get one of the Good Will Certificates, was told that since my warranty was out they could only offer me $100. 00. I told them to forget it, I'd chalk it up to a lesson learned and never purchase another GE product again. Going to go on the website and send them an email and let them know what I think of their business practices and go find another brand of AC.
Call again (if you have patience) and tell them it's under a year old. Say you are just under the threshold.... Or if you are interested in DIY fix only need a little electrical tape and some free time.
The issue is the board on the front control panel.... Can think of interest in DIY fix
@@clarkkc11 When I called them they created a case # and got my serial # unfortunately so I don't think calling them back and telling them it's still under warranty will work. I am however in the process of doing the manual fix. I'm not the best with electronics but I think I'm going to try MikesRadioRepair's toggle switch fix (thanks to Patrick & Mike btw). I think I can probably muddle thru that.
I haven't had my GE for even a year and it's not getting cold at all now. Have only used it maybe 4 months total! I'm not a happy camper it's cooler outside than in my house right now!
If the hundreds of comments isn't proof enough... You are not alone.
Wow! Same problem here. The display panel began fading then went out completely. Then WiFi light started blinking and all I see now is Hi and temp. I’ve only had it for a week!
l
Had this same issue. Check to see if the ground pin hasn’t melted off. That would be why it’s shutting off
Never mind that didn’t fix it😓. But if I cycle through the modes it stays on which is strange. But if I stop pushing the mode button it shuts off.
When I opened mine up I found corrosion on the solder joints and on the boards... they weren't sealed properly from a machine that generates cold air near warm air... creating condensation... a destroyer of electronics...
@@clarkkc11 I think mine needed a new front controller board but the part was $65 and I wasn’t 100% sure if it would fix it and wasn’t just gonna throw money at it so I had to sadly junk it.
You don't plug up any a/c on a power strip...Everybody should know that...plug this into a wall...unless you want the house to burn down...
Shoot, I just bought a 14K BTU unit last night and then I come across this vid, maybe I should call Lowes back and say yes to the extended warranty I turned down during cash-out.
YES or just return...
@@clarkkc11 I live in FL and we are already into hot season, Lowes was the only place that had anything over 10K BTU in stock and a previous GE unit lasted quite awhile, I see reading the thread the GE appliances has been sold in 2017. Return is still an option but the box kind of self-destructs as you take it apart, plus I'm 65 so these 14K jobs are kinda heavy. The one I replaced was a 9yr old 15K that weighed 95lbs, I opened the window and pushed her through, once brought to the curb scavengers quickly hauled it off. Will be calling Lowes to ask about how much the extended warranty cost's and who is the provider for it, great amount of useful info in the thread here.
So what we do to fix this issue?? I’m having the exact issue exact unit as you.. bout it last spring🤦🏽♀️ dome cleaned the filter and outside of it
Mine is doing the same thing what do I need to do or replace?
I call GE and you have to replace it, you have to do a long process with GE for them to give you the money back ...😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬
I took mine back to Lowes and got a refund. I requested a service call with GE and they called 3 days before and canceled it and offered their "certificate". That certificate is just a bad customer service idea all around. Luckily lowes didn't even blink an eye at my return. I was outside the 30 day return window but they just credited my card. The other thing about those certificates is they don't refund the original sales tax you paid on the defective unit. Overall a bad experience and I'll just avoid all GE products in the future.
Do you have it linked to your iOS devices iPhone or iPad using the HomeKit?
Same problem. Same unit. No solution. Appliance guy says these are “throw away units.” Don’t carry parts for them. It lasted about a year but used only about 5 times. Done with GE
I've got a fix... ruclips.net/video/sFzz_YUHMh0/видео.html
I just installed mine that I purchased last summer and it's doing the same thing. Did you ever get yours to work?
I have not done the hack yet, but check the pinned comment! People have!
This GE model air conditioner has a lot of issue, mostly the circuitry is finicky. I have one that has the exact problem as this video. Any surge in the power source can easily damage the board so once that happens your only option is a new board. Since this is the latest model replacement part are not yet available. The warranty is one year from the date of purchased, you are screwed if warranty expired.
Got a good will certificate from GE. Was able to replace my old destroyed unit with a new alternate version, still a GE product. waiting to receive it, as I could only order it online, because all stores that hold GE products in my area were out of stock for the season... once my new unit arrives I can send a copy of the receipt in my Goodwill certificate back for a refund. But they sure try and screw you in every way possible, somehow I made it through it was success
How did you get a certificate? Was you unit still in warranty? I keep getting the run around from customer service. Out unit did this a month after the one year expired so pretty frustrated about it. This wasn’t a cheap purchase for us!
@@haleydykes I played dumb. I think I was at the year mark but it should last longer. So I admitted I did not have. Areceipt but would "do research to prove I am right" and it worked...
That’s actually really good to know... thanks!! I’m gonna attempt the same. I agree 100% ... a year for a almost $500 unit is bull! I’ve had cheaper a/c units last for 6+ years no issues. Plus, considering the “reset” button that is installed on this is to prevent this type of circuit shortages- you would think after many of us experiencing the same problem they would realize it’s a manufacturing error and recall it or refund us- at the very least provide free repair!
my has the same problem. but my is 18000BTU same kind of display. bought it august 29 from lowes. contacted GE and about after a month they told me the parts are back ordered and they will give me refund to replace the ac.... 600$ AC and all kind of problems
The hack on tying the wires together to jumpstart Compressor and fan works but won’t last long without a defrost mode you’re better off finding another circuit board
Agree! But very hard to find!
I am finding it really strange we are all here experiencing the same problem.
Corporate conspiracy? Capitalism being abused? Parts that easily fail and you can find a part or person to help fix it?

Always save your manual and register your GE appliance online if you can! Save your receipt.
I did not have my receipt but I had my manual and information. There is a sticker on the unit as well with a QR code.
I called the support number in the manual. Confirmed my window unit serial number and model. Explained that it should be only a year old. They said due to costs of repairing versus replacement that they would give me a good will certificate (I think it's called that) to purchase a new unit of the same retail value (as I did not have my receipt). Should receive in 7-10 days.

I have a GE Energy 18300 BTU window air. Took off the front grill to clean filter & cannot get it back on. The manual says to open to 45 degree angle. I took grill off completely, by mistake. Please help.
Cómo reparar este aire con esta misma falla
Repair man was suppose to come never did looks like I’m calling again today
Omg I have this exact same problem with this exact same unit! Only 4 months old. Called GE and they're giving me a certificate to buy another one, but what the actual f*ck! Currently in the Cali heat wave and the fastest I can get an ac delivered is in a week. Were you able to fix this?
No, I have not found proper legitimate instructions to do an at home repair. They mailed me a certificate for $450, good will certificate. I have to pay out of my pocket, mail a receipt and wait for a reimbursement check....
Did you all have proof of your original receipt? When I called GE about the same issue they said they need proof of my original recent to send me a certificate. What?? Who keeps a receipt for 4 months.
@@HangingwithApryl I got that on the first or second phone call... By the 6th or 7th... If you get disgruntled, started leaving bad reviews on Twitter, you can get access to a number where they may respond differently. I told them I had no receipt that I could find butnwould be happy to scrounge the bank statements and email for a digital proof of purchase. They declined and sent a certificate... Still a horrible response as a company in my opinion. But I will to take it...
I have exact same problem right now I will never Buy Any GE product again and I will inform everyone I can about this sorry Company
I got one 2 days ago & it just hate out 🤣🤣 it turns on & nothing comes out . Just a sound
Letting everyone know the GE tech just left and he said that these ac are bad about letting condensation into the circuit board and frying them. Bad news is they are on back order so they aren’t sure when they will get them in.
Thanks Ashleigh
Having the same problem here
Will you still be able to control the a/c through wifi after doing this?
No
@@clarkkc11 okay, do you know what the set temp is that it stays on? Also what mode? I’m guessing cool
@@matthewmarakowski6552 it's set to high and the coldest setting I believe. Hits the mid 60s...
Mine was doing this a month ago but finally it started back up on it on. But today the power in our area went out and now it wont come back on. And where i live its hot a year round...
I don’t know what happened to mine. It kept blinking like a strobe light after one short burst if air, and then it didn’t even turn on anymore
Mine doing the same exact thing!! I work for a guy who subs from Tri-City Sales. They sell AC's,fridges, ovens etc so hopefully I'll find out, if so, I'll let u know.
My Man! Mad respect if you help me fix this thing and find out the missing tetris block to make this thing blast again! Nothing wrong with the refrigerant and cooling parts. Complete electric issue... On off. Damn power surges
I have the same one same thing is happening right now
@@eddiesansonejr4935 so strange... Like GE set off an EMP... Destroying ACs nationwide...
Please let me know if someone finds a solution for this kind of problem, thank you
It’s a circuit board fuse that been blown due to power surges. It cost around $70 to replace the circuit board.
Una pregunta cuando uno le hace eso la conexión wifi funciona o no
WTF i have this same issue, Mines was working well, had turned it off for 3 weeks becuase temps were getting cooler, Now i turn the AC on it keeps turning on and off
Any power outages or storms in your area, or did yours trigger on its own?
@@clarkkc11 No power outages since i live in a city, like all electronic products i unplug them if not in use
Same thing happened to me. Turned it off for the colder months abs when I needed it again, it does this. I only used it for 2 months if that.
I’m having the same problem with the same AC
Having the same issue! Ahhh this is bull 💩
Same
I've had this air conditioner for less than 2 years and it's not even blowing out cold air anymore despite the filter being clean. My last AC lasted over a decaded, feels like i've wasted my money!
Welcome to the club that is against GE. We appreciate your comment!
Check the motherboard of the AC

I have the same issue. Used the A/C for a few hours on three occasions before it went bad. Has anyone been able to find out the circuit board part number? It should be an easy fix once you have the correct part number. Good luck to you all. GE has let us all down.
One comment or said they do not have parts available... Hence such the large gathering of comments. No solutions for anyone except Goodwill and Repair man efforts.
@@clarkkc11 I had read the post you mentioned. I can't believe the parts aren't available since GE offered to send a repair man and fix mine for $100. I'm determined to find the part...and post the part number. The problem is there is a design failure, so fixing may be a short lived solution. Thank you for the response.
@@lanaschiefer959 thank you! I wonder if it's regional? I'm in NYS... Just trying to do my part to repair and increase longevity and reduce waste... While cooling off on hot days and trying to be energy efficient...
Appreciate your help and communication!
@@clarkkc11 not regional, apparently... ours is in California, quit working a few months after purchase in the late summer. Worked fine, then was shut off fir a few months and when tried again, blinking lights and won't turn on...
Did u fix it if u did please tell me how
Sad day, power went out and same problem.
Does this actually works?
Is there any GE techs that would help solve the problem?
I've had no luck finding anyone that's been able to tell me how this machine works and is repaired that works for GE, seems like there's more second-hand knowledge from people experimenting and trying their own stuff and GE doesn't seem to have the staff or support to help reduce waste on this planet by fixing the things that are broken... Throw it out and buy another, that's GE's logic
RUclips Techs... Lol ruclips.net/video/sFzz_YUHMh0/видео.html
I bought mine last July. Re installed it about two weeks ago in my bedroom. I tried to move it into my living room. When I powered on it began to do this beeping and can’t bypass it. Is it possible it is a voltage issue.
There's a very good chance that there's corrosion on the circuit boards, the circuit board that's on the control panel of the device
Check out the video that's pinned in the comments, I dive into what the issue was with my machine in that video
