I was a police officer during the Viet Nan war having served in the military in the 50's. I was disgusted with the way our soldiers were treated when returning from the war.
In retrospect, I believe the war was political and not a conflict the USA should have been involved in. But that aside, the fact that our soldiers fought with many giving their all and others coming home with permanent injuries.
I supported the soldiers and the efforts being made to provide adequate supplies for their battles. I opposed the riots and the degrading of our soldiers and on many occasions I was sent to Berkeley, Oakland and North Richmond to confront the rioters. This was my contribution to my country and it often got dangerous. I had rocks thrown at me and a fire bomb thrown between my legs narrowly missing setting my uniform on fire.One of my fellow officers was not so fortunate and suffered 3rd. degree burns that resulted in his forced retirement. I counted it a privilege to be able to support our troops in this small way. The rioters were set on doing damage to property and anyone who got in their way including law enforcement officers. It was rewarding when we had the opportunity to intercept their malicious efforts and strike back with batons ,tear gas and arrests.
I enjoy the music of the war; it brings back many nostalgic moments of a time of confusion and duty.
In 1968 I was all most 13yrs old and still remember the draft takeing a lot of my friends older brothers to war. My family moved to Florida and I often wondered if they came home from , in my opinion a senseless War so far from home for such loss of life.
A my grandpa used to listen to these songs all the time he's up in heaven I know he's still driving those trains he drove and listen to that song I miss him very much but I have memories and I hope you have a great Christmas

I love the Military I think of being one one day and love Toy Soldiers as a kid I still really like them I kinda still play with Plastic Army Men and play lots of Call of Duty and even Ghost Recon I love Shooters I like anything military related

I was in the military Navy to be exact can honestly say I for the most part I enjoyed my time in not well enough to stay in but Its like any job it has good times and bad I would never discourage anyone from joining its one thing I've done that I'm proud to have day I have done
