Jesse jokes about the Little Red Man being seen in the French Detroit, and not the American Detroit, but Detroit Michigan has it's own cryptid story about a little red man. It's known as the Nain Rouge which is French for 'Red Dwarf'. Supposedly the founder of Detroit, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac angered the creature, which caused a series of misfortune to befall him, and is said to be a warning of catastrophe to come, much like the Mothman.
It's interesting to me the red man seems less mischievous than he does seem interested in stability in France. He warned against the campaigns that would cause huge loss of life senselessly. He thought Napoleon was a man to unite France & settle things, but abandoned him when he did not. It's very interesting, it isn't how most myths go with fae types.
Mathas, when you were theorizing about what the red man could possibly be it reminded me so much of this book I'm reading right now called Dancing Past the Graveyard by Paul Eno. He's a paranormal investigator who claims all ghost, demon, and alien activity is actually parasites from other dimensions feeding on us. It's bonkers but really interesting. Might even make a good episode?
@@ChilluminatiPod Well there you go, there's a first for everything (you seeing a movie, that is XD). Mayall played the eponymous imaginary friend himself in the film.
27:00 Napoleon staying the night in the king's chamber of the great pyramid after conquering Cairo is a stunning tale. You have to wonder what he was thinking and if that was his plan all along. Like, if he had some insanely esoteric knowledge and even had a game plan to acquire more supernatural enlightenment or something.
Hey love the podcast, but I do have to say, as a medieval historian the term Dark Ages is very outdated. Basically it was coined by the victorians because they believed there was a lack of records, however this is not the case. We now know significantly more about this period and it really was not a 'Dark Age.' If you are interested in learning about medieval warfare there is a great deal of work on it out there now. For example Jim Bradburys 'The Medieval Siege.' Also the Medieval period spans almost 1000 years (Fall of the roman empire to the renaissance 476-1450AD) Warfare and tactics changed a huge amount during that period. You were correct in saying how much the longbow changed tactics but so did crossbows, castles, cavalry etc. Also some battles do have fairly detailed accounts such as Agincourt, Battle of Golden Spurs and even the battle of hastings has some great material evidence in the bayeux tapestry.
I'm convinced some cryptids are only here to try to help humanity, but because we can't get past surface-level beauty as a species, we keep seeing them as omens
Also, wasn't there a similar legend about Alexander's conquest and his unreasonable drive through India? There was some weird story about him trying to defeat what would become the Biblical giants.
Rick... Pronounced MAIL... as in 'chain mail' Also a wonderful constant cameo in the BLACK ADDER comedy... (don't anyone dare not know of Black Adder). Hillarious hearing you guys figure out us Brits' on occasions. Loving the shows more than the bean-boy loves nuggs'.

I had the opposite problem when I was a kid I was an early grower I was already 5 feet tall by 2nd grade, I may not be 100% correct on that info but I was already over 6ft by middle school and then I was done growing and everyone caught up during highschool. But there are cons to being that big as a kid I used to have extreme growing pains because I was growing so quick and also I was developing a spinal ridge at the same time and because the desks were so small I used to get sores and back pain as a kid because of it
Honestly jesse clearly has a very surface level understanding of history, you should take everything he says with a grain of salt and get your history from somebody with a phd level of understanding. Things are way more complicated than he makes it seem
As a french guy and a history buff, I'll have to say that this is by far the least credible and most uninformed podcast in recent memory, which is saying something coming off the recent alien episodes. Now, "l'homme en rouge" is a neat legend in the book of french folklore, but the way Jesse presented Napoleon and the historical context is missing so much information at every step, that it's often flat out wrong or can't really be taken seriously at all. It also makes this mystical element seem plausible when it is contradicted by historical elements at every step. From the dark ages having little to no historical documents or the russian campaign being an ego-trip with little reason behind it, there are far too many errors that could have been solved with some basic research. I think I speak for every fan of History when I say that this was a poor showing, especially coming from who is often the voice of reason on the show.
Jesse episodes are a rare treat

The outro is back boys! Love it!
The Little Red Man sounds like Nyarlathotep. a true machiavAlien.

Battle of the Pyramids was several miles away from the actual pyramids, but it's not unreasonable to think part of the army could've visited.
Great episode y'all!
