Her grandmother liked jazz. She could hold a mic and sing at 18 months. She has always been self directed. When she is told “The scene is yours.” she is immediately serious and ready to sing. She signals for the backing track right away. She is the smallest contestant but she feels equal and joins in with others who are taller and older. She is not the least bit intimated.
Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina speaks 3 languages, designs her own clothes and runs an art studio, and has written a best-selling book. Angelina won Norway's got talent when she was 7 years old Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but from age 7years to 12 years old or so, even so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) she has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing. Angelina's mother is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The grandmother on her mother's side is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather.
I'm totally sure you've heard tons about her background by now. In my opinion, she's an old soul with amazing aptitude and connection with music .. since she was one and a half it became her focus! What? Yup. And she has literally worked for years on her voice .. and loved jazz from the start (past of that is from her grandmother) but her mother tells of how she would endlessly listen over and over to Billie Holliday and Etta .. etc.. she sang and sang and sang all day. This girl has put in the work .. out of pure wonder and passion for music. I am super grateful she's around .. she has certainly been a balm to listen to throughout this Pandemic. I cannot go a day without listening to her at least once. Thanks for your reaction. P.S. I highly recommend "Bang, Bang" .. part of her Norway's Got Talent time so she's only 7 .. teeth fixed since her very first audition (this one) but she is a subtle wonder in that performance and I believe you'd appreciate it.
She started singing jazz songs when she was 18 months old. She has been self-directed about her music all along. She practiced during the week and gave a family concert on the weekend. Her mother said she found jazz on you tube. very early. She makes her arrangements.
Angelina says she is never nervous on stage. She goes into "a spesial place" when singing. Her grandmother let her listen to a lot of jazz classics when she was very young. She found music and styles on you tube from 2-3 years old. Her family are protective and priority childhood and school. I have followed her from this gloomy sunday audition, and she has never disappointed me. She is great, and will be greater as time goes by.
I guess grandma was unabel to keep her away from those records, and I`m shure she didn`t mind to let her play them. Who would not wish to be there at that time, watching youn Angelina digging aand singing along to Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald . . . . ;-D
Rumor is that on YOU TUBE there ISA video of her mother asking her to sing TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR and she sang ETTA JAMES at age 2!! She’s phenomenal and if the freaks in the music industry don’t mess with her she can be one of the greatest singers ever!! No BS she’s unbelievable
Not a musical household. I saw an interview with her mother, who said A surprised her when she was FIVE wanting to go on Norway's Got Talent. Her mother knew she was really taken by music because she spent all her time listening and playing around with singing and she knew she was passionate about it .. so she called NGT .. but they said they had an age limit and she'd have to wait till she was seven. The next two years she worked and worked on the 4 songs she did. Then this. I have no clue how i saw her or on what but it was right after she won this contest that i first saw Angelina and heard her sing. She was on a ton of talk shows all over Europe and became a sensation immediately. The bare feet and her white dresses with garlands in her hair fascinated me so i never forgot her and her voice and her comfortable confidence and lack of self importance. I think the last judge was worth listening to also .. if only for the reaction of shock at this level of musicality. But he also respected her answer to his question "Do you know what this song is about? " she calmly replies .. "yes, it was about a sad Sunday. " that's all she said .. and he respected that as a full answer, which made me respect him. I enjoy your reactions. Thanks.
From what I’ve read, AJ from the age of 1 1/2, began searching out Jazz tunes, and singers on RUclips, and would intently listen for hours. This from her mother’s interview. She would then pick the sounds she liked, and at the age of 5 began asking mom to enter her into singing competitions. Totally focused so young on music, truly astounding.
As others have noted Angelina’s maternal grandmother (an Iranian artist of note) helped Angelina’s clear interest in jazz. Angelina’s mother (half Japanese, half Iranian, father is Swedish) noticed her singing in her crib at 18 months (there is video of this) and at about 2 Angelina started searching RUclips for music she liked. Her grandmother (Mery Zamani) started taking Angelina to a local record shop (real vinyl records) owned by a friend and fellow jazz aficionado. Angelina was there more formally introduced to the great jazz classics. There are a couple of videos of Angelina in the shop working out songs on the store piano and delving into bins of jazz recordings. By age 6 Angelina was in a recording studio (video of this also on RUclips). At age 7 she convinced her mother to allow her to try out for NGT. Her first audition was not Gloomy Sunday before an audience. It was actually another Billie Holiday song “I’m a Fool to Want You” done one a cappella for the judges with no audience besides the other performers. I actually like this performance better. That’s not right . It affected me more than Gloomy Sunday on a level I cannot explain. Anyway, she won NGT and the next 5 years are filled with hundreds of studio, live and home recordings of over 50 great artists along with 3 superb original songs. From the very beginning Angelina has selected and arranged all the songs she sings. She is very sure of herself and her choices in totally non egotistical way. I could write pages or talk for hours about her like the beautiful story that explains why she always performs barefoot even in the cold. I will leave that for you to discover. Angelina possesses a sweet, humble, compassionate and beautiful soul. She quite literally saved my life as I could not bear to leave a world or deny God’s gift of life when Angelina is my healing Angel.
Angelina Jordan (born January 10, 2006) is famous for being pop singer. She currently resides in Oslo, Norway. Vocalist best known as the winner of Norway’s Got Talent in 2014, at the age of nine. She published her first book, Between Two Hearts, in 2015. Angelina is it in Los Angeles California now going to school Net worth 9.4 Dollars USD
She's not mimicking sounds, she's recognized and somehow, at that age, is able to express the feelings behind them. It's rather remarkable. Totally captivating. I, too, urge you to react to her I Put a Spell On You.
I don't think Caleb meant mimic in the direct sense. It takes nothing away from any young singer to note they start by directly following the styles of individual great singers, and then develop their own style. So there is a lot of Billie Holiday in this performance. but yes, the abilities and especially expressing feelings is all Angelina.
She has a gift sir...born to sing that genre of music...at 7 it s hard to believe she had somekind of trainning ...she sang like she breath at that age ....it just flow naturally ....that is a pure gift sir
That little hair flip she does with her right hand before she starts singing is the same one she does, three years later, before absolutely slaying the end of "Feelin' Good". Also, kudos to the four judges who saw, heard, and accurately predicted her brilliant future, which we are so fortunate to be in the middle of watching unfold.
I always enjoy little Angelina as well as Angelina of today. She was a fantastic talent then and she is fantastic talented young lady now. She always pulls me in to her world , leaving me tearful from emotion at the end. God bless you AJ .
I didn't realize how much she captured Billy Holiday until I went back and listened to the original and she does have it down pat. Love Angelina ❤️❣️❣️💙
When Angelina is that young, her talents are so very unique and special. You can see it with other young performers like Courtney Hadwin, Grace VanderWaal and Amira Willghagen. They are special and unique. However, as they grow up other talented performers will join them and cause them to blend in with the crowd. They go from being special and adored to just another talented performer. This is difficult for some of them psychologically. If you watch one of the documentaries on Amira, she is already wondering if she will keep singing or become a social worker. It is sad to see them give up their childhoods only to be relegated. I like your sensitive and honest comments. Angelina's NGT performances bring me to tears every time (I'm 69).
I've been watching her videos for a while and I'm just starting to realize that it's almost like she has this wonderful instrument (her voice) and she seems to know that her voice is special and she's just showcasing it to the world. Not in a diva like way but more like she knows that she has this special gift no one else has and she wants to share it with her audience.
I'm so glad to hear this, I heard that she was singing around age 2. Her family is multicultural and I believe both parents are academics. Her grandmother is either Iranian or of Iranian descent. She sings without shoes because she met a homeless girl who had no shoes, so she gave her shoes to the homeless girl. And, she's said that she won't perform with shoes until all children have shoes. Prodigy is most likely the appropriate description but also to be so socially aware at a very young age, kind of supports the old soul in a tiny body. Thanks for the reaction.
Angelina is a child prodigy of youtube. Her mother, Sara Astar, said neither she nor her husband have any musical ability. She started listening to music on youtube for hours at a time. At about 1 1/2 she discovered Whitney Houston & there is a video of her singing "I will Always Love You" in her crib with a microphone almost as big as her. FYI, she recorded that song when she was 12 & it's beautiful. Her grandma, who is an artist, introduced Angelina to jazz at about 3 & that became her new genre of choice that remains today. She would practice singing a song during the week then perform it for the family on weekends. By the time she was 5, she asked her mom if she could audition for NGT, but she said she wasn't ready yet. So she practiced for 2 more years until her mom finally said she was ready. The rest is history. She attended a performing arts school in Oslo until 12. By that time the best voice coaches in Norway said they couldn't do more for her & they recommended they move to a music center in the US , so they moved to L.A. They go back & forth frequently. She turned 14 Jan 10, 2020 & is a freshman at a performing arts school in L.A.
I mimic her path in some sense. My entire immediate family don't know where my singing skills come from, as no-one in said family can sing. But I'm nowhere near as good a singer as this :)
I was astounded when I first stumbled on this. It is amazing. It is also clear that her rendition is directly inspired by the Billie Holiday recording, and has been learnt by ear. In a couple of places her words are not the same as the original. This is not a criticism, just an observation that what we all discovered here was a slightly rough diamond, but clearly a gem from the start.
She is a prodigy, no doubt. Thanks for your lovely, intelligent and respectful reaction, I really enjoyed this. Crossing my fingers you will do more with Angelina :)
Since everyone is having the same reaction to Angelina Jordan: disbelief...shocked... amazed, Ive decided to investigate to see if there is an ordinary explanation for her rapid and dramatic and extraordinary development. I'm not a psychologist, but information about "genius" characteristics can easily be found and seen with her. High IQ or genius (prodigy, gifted) characteristics include a more rapid mental development on all fronts: high facility to understand abstractions, innuendo and subtleties. Interestingly, obsession and total immersion in a subject is not unusual .A high demand for perfection in oneself and one's peers is also usual. I find real support for these ideas in her non-singing videos. ...In the nursery school setting, she didn't participate... and she vacated her seat before the end. Disgusted? ...In most of her younger at -play videos she has a bored look out the camera and doesn't smile... bet she wanted to be studying music instead ...she wanted to enter contests at 5ish but was too young to apply...already determined and obsessed with her music...I'll bet she viewed play was a waste of time. I'll bet (no proof), that she learned to read early! . That would certainly help with music as another way to learn...get info. I think as this type a child gets older, most learn to socialize; this is clearly happening with her. But, this is also a sign of intelligence. I don't think she came from another planet... She is just one of the special ones who is actually using her gift! A .
There are videos of her in a recording studio/booth at the age of 6. Wow. In addition I’ve heard that she’s fluent in Norwegian and English. She plays piano, violin, and flute. This girl is unbelievable.
Omg...speechless! And she's from Norway and the English are so good. No one has teaching her. She's a natural gift to the world! She's singing from 1 years and listening to RUclips! ❤️ so just search on RUclips and follow her site an fb.
Happy to see you checking out more from this wonderful girl!! No other singer, no matter age, has remotely the same effect on me. As if she’s found the frequency of my soul.
Great insight, very informative. Thank you. If you are interested there are 125 other songs on you tube that she sings and a few are originals. She is coming out with an album of originals this spring and she is really just beginning. Angelina is pretty shy but claims that performing never makes her nervous and that it is only fun for her. A more gifted, naturally talented and focused singer I have never seen in my 63 years on this beautiful planet. Please do more reactions of her.
I haven't read all the comments below but her "ear" for music is, I think, natural. She plays (besides singing) three instruments piano, violin and flute and speaks three languages. Thank you too for your nice reaction.
Nice reaction! Two videos I would recommend: I put a spell on you (in black and white, when she was about 8yo) and more recently when she was 10, her rendition of It's a Man's World. Both are astonishing in different ways. She has too many good songs (covers, mostly) to count. It's pretty rare that she has a "bad" song (her "bad" is most people's "best"). Something else you might be interested in: she wrote a couple songs: What is Life (a slow jazzy song) and Shield (you'll know what style it is when you hear it :-D ) Have fun discovering Angelina's world.
She has a video 'I Who Have Nothing" (complete) She was 6 and you will find that she was holding back on NGT. This girl can and does sing in any genre. Fantastic!
A good place to comment on the age error related to that vid. Caleb, you noted her one tooth, here at 7 well, she did have a bit of the other). The vid of 'I Who Have Nothing" mis-identified her as being 6 by the original poster. But you can see her teeth are more grown in, match the tooth pattern of her last Norway's Got Talent performances. So this was done at about her 8th birthday. Like any factual error introduced on the internet, of even in academic literature, it is nearly impossible to eliminate. Brenda, it's no fault of yours.
I think the impetus to her development came from her grandmother, Mery, who she clearly spent a lot of time with, and played jazz music to her quite a lot. She was taken to Jazz shops, browsed through old albums and listened there on headphones. Others may have detailed knowledge.
Your smile give me chills, Caleb. I think we all get those happy vibes from listening to Angelina. Nature or nurture, the everlasting question. Which of those made Angelina catch the essence of jazz at such a Young age? I think it's a bit of both. As mentioned by other's, she spent a lot of time with her grandmother as a child. Not knowing for sure, but deduced from the fact that Mery is a painter/artist and probably works from home, I'm guessing she was babysitting a lot when Angelina was young, and from what's being told to us by Angelina, she used to have jazz music playing all day. You mentioned that perceptiveness at young age isn't as well developed as later in life, but I'd like to argue the opposite. Although the small child isn't mentally aware of all the things that's going on in it's environment, they still listen and learn, and nerve cell connections in the brain are being formed at an alarming speed at this age. You asked if she had genetic predisposition to music, if her brain created that way due to genetics, or if she had learned it. It is of course difficult to prove it one way or the other, but the early influence of jazz music for sure helped her to further develop the sense for music she was given at birth. I've so far been talking about her development as a baby, and I can mention that she started to sing along to the songs she liked while still laying in her crib. Later, as she becomes more aware and start to interact with people in a social manner, she would have been inclined to get smitten by grandma's preference for jazz since she had a strong emotional bond formed with her. Even as adults we tend to appreciate things that is liked by those we love. The fact that they used to visit a jazz café together and brows through the records while _talking shop_ with the café owner probably acted like icing on the cake. Angelina also started to attend music lessons as extra curricular activity at very young age, I think already in her preschool years. There are videos posted by her grandmother showing Angelina in the recording studio at the music school singing songs like _Hurt, Skyfall, Rolling In The Deep_ and _Someone Like You_ at the age of 6. In one of those videos (ruclips.net/video/ECeqACRgMS8/видео.html ) we can even se her listening back to the recording and actively analyzing her own performance, frowning at things she doesn't like, and thinking about improvements that can be made.
@@103mrg LOL , one of the judges at the end of her performance said something about her tasp in her voice ; she must have drank whiskey dice the day she was born. But all joking aside Angelina as great as a singer she is, she is even a greater humanitarian. I have never met anyone at 6 years old give up her favorite pair of shoes to someone else in need. And then to this day keeping her promise to perform barefoot in every public performance. And even in the studio in her black and white version of "I put a spell on you". She is also a published author at the age of 9, Norway's youngest author.
"Quite special" is an acceptable understatement. She's downright phenomenal. I'd strongly recommend you try listening to her version of "I put a spell you"
At 14 her truth is again being proved about the reason she performs barefooted! I read that though she has not signed with anyone...she has performed for many benefit concerts around the world and already at age 14...helped raise over 21 million £ “ is that the correct symbol for Euros” going toward child relief non profits! Blessings to your Blessing to all of us around the world who listen to you... and hear all that is common to us this crazy 2020 world. Keep it up...Angelina
I'm glad to see that you went back where it all began and since you seen her first performance I thing that it is worth checking out her semi final and the final her wining song Summer times it is just amazing, and I have been a fan of her since 2014 there has never been a singer quite like Angelina Jordan.
Thanks Caleb, I always enjoy your reactions. You always provide fair and detailed analysis, as well as a nice laid back vibe, as opposed to many reactors who seem to focus a lot more on getting views than actually provide any insight.
It is a cover of Screamin Jay Hawkins whose picture is on the candle she's holding SJH original: ruclips.net/video/7kGPhpvqtOc/видео.html You should listen to SJH first so you can see how she improved on it. She also arraigned her version.
The blond was Mom. I would encourage you to see her sing an acapella version of another Billie Holiday song, 'I'm A Fool To Want You'. I think questions of how she maintains pitch will be answered. The bare feet have a story of their own. Her family is well traveled and at least one grandmother is an artist. If fact the outfit she wore for her audition was a pattern from one of her grandmother's paintings, Angelina sewed it herself. She started singing at 11/2 years old and has been listening and singing to a lot of old jazz off of RUclips. I think she is a marvel. I am sure others have written all of this ahead of me so I'll just say I hope the industry doesn't ruin her, as they have with many talented young people. Until the next time.
Just in case you want to check out some of her other songs and see the full range of her talent, here is the complete list: A Million Years Ago A Natural Woman Ain't No Sunshine All I Ask All I Want for Christmas All of Me All of Me (John Legend) Always on My Mind Are You Lonesome Tonight At Last Autumn Leaves Back to Black Bang Bang Bohemian Rhapsody Born to Die California Dreamin' Can't Help Falling In Love with You Can't Take My Eyes Off You Cheek to Cheek Crazy Cry Me a River Dancing On My Own Diamonds are Forever Don't Stop Me Now Dream A Little Dream Of Me Every Time We Say Goodbye Faded Feeling Good Fly Me to the Moon Forever and Ever Gloomy Sunday Happier Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Hello Here Comes the Sun How Great Thou Art Hurt I Have a Dream I Have Nothing I Know I'm Not the Only One I Put a Spell On You I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus I Who Have Nothing I Will Always Love You I Will Survive I'd Rather Go Blind If You Go Away I'll Be There I'm a Fool to Want You I'm No Good I'm Still Holding Out For You Issues It Ain't Me It's a Man's World It's Magic It's Now or Never It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year Jolene La Boheme La Vie en Rose Lean on Me Let it Snow Let Me Entertain You Like a River Flow (Japanese) Love Me Tender Love On the Brain Lovin' You Magic Moments Make You Feel My Love Man in the Mirror Mary's Boy Child Moon River Mr. Lonely My Funny Valentine My Way Nothing Breaks Like a Heart One Moment in Time Oslo Our Day Will Come Perfect Portrait of a Child Rehab Return to Me Rolling in the Deep Santa Claus is Coming to Town Shield Silent Night Sing Me to Sleep Sky Fall Someone Like You Something's Got a Hold on Me Somewhere My Love Somewhere Over the Rainbow Song for A Speak Softly Love Stay Strangers in the Night Summertime Sway The Christmas Song The First Time Ever I Saw your Face The Show Must Go On Titanium Trampoline Unchain My Heart Unchained Melody Valerie Wake Me Up Welcome to My World What a Difference a Day Makes What a Wonderful World What is Life When We Were Young When You Wish Upon a Star When You're Smiling Where Do I Begin (Love Story) White Christmas Wicked Games Without Me Writing on the Wall You Don't Own Me You Make Me Feel So Young You Raise Me Up You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine Young and Beautiful
Angelina is always barefooted, I'm beginning to think that is her trademark. On AGT, she was on stage barefooted. btw I love your reaction to her singing
Great reaction, thanks Caleb. Even at this early age she was able to sing different styles. You should at least listen to her next three. She performs another Billy Holiday tune a cappella "I'm a Fool To Want You". Then she changes styles for Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" and "Summertime" by Ella Fitzgerald. Thanks again for your time and insight.
After watching this about 50 times I went back and listened to the Billie Holliday version and was amazed at how much Angelina sounded like the original.
I'm glad to see you react to where it all started. when i saw this moment on Norwegian TV, my life changed, when it comes to my view on music.... you have so much more to looking forward to if you continue on your reaction journey to her 😇
I put a spell on you is one of my fav from her...and "shield" that she made herself is also an impresssive performance... she started singing at the age of 2 years old
I know you're a Queen fan and not sure if you know but Angel-ina covered 'the show must on.' You'll be blown away! I love the insights you offer...thank you 😊
Angelina Jordan - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14 (7 in this performance) - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through RUclips videos and started studying all the greats from Jazz history. - Angelina always sings barefoot..... When Angelina was 6, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. The girl complimented her on her pretty shoes, so Angelina took them off and gave them to the girl. She made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. There's more to the story & it's more touching. When Angelina was 9 years old she wrote a book about the story that can be purchased on her website. (angelinajordanofficial) - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 100 songs over the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. She can even cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey ect... like you wouldn't believe. - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, and many more. All of which heard her covering their songs and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube) I think Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived, I feel if she avoids the pitfalls of child success. Listen closely to any of her songs you can hear her greatness. She sings with a very natural style. She doesn't do any unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of showing off. She's humble & gentle & sweet She once said "When I sing I go into a magical world in my head", you can always hear the results of that as well as being brought into the songs. She has a great future ahead of herself God willing.
Angelina has a video on RUclips showing her in a crib at 1.5 years old singing on key the song “I Will Always Love You” Also her grandmother always played jazz at home.
Tarzan and Nanny Mcphee had a baby, a very beautiful and talented baby it must be said. Loved your informative and humourous reaction, will watch out for more from you reacting to our Angelina.
Hi Call, I am glad you started with that song, now go to Summertime, What a different a day made, and I Put a Spell on You ( black and white) and so on. Thank you for listening to that and great reaction!❗💜
BTW, not only is she just 7 years old, but English is her third language. Nervous is not in her DNA.Her grandmother started playing jazz for her at 18 months old. When she went on AGT Champions she said that yes, she was 13 years old and she had been waiting Ten years to sing for Simon. Do the Math, lol. Her vocal covers are always informed by the original and then crafted to draw every ounce of emotion from the song.Check out Rusty Shackelford's list to keep going on the Angelina journey!
No, Caleb, no, not nervous, according to her. Her trick? When i sing, i go in a world within where everything is pure and musical!!!! I make a distinction between receiving a musical gift at birth and developping a musical talent, an aptitude that only hard work and trainig exercises MAY produce greatness. To me, artistic gift and talent have nothing to do, in a specific sense, with semantics. I wonder if you would agree with me concerning that distinction in vocal art. Thank you, Caleb, for your reaction! Will you react to more Angelina s songs in the future? I am a subscriber to your channel.
What do we can say about this little and gifted girl that at age of seven can have the tone of a twenty or 3o years old like Caleb is saying and can sing better or equal than Billie Holiday; this is just AMAZING. Thanks for to bring us more about Angelina Jordan....
She was around music and she listened to this style of music and the reason she wears no shoes, o heard she saw a person on the street who had no shoes and she and she gave her shoes to that person and does not wear shoes most of the time. She dies I PUT A SPELL ON YOU & is as good as Screamin’ Jay Hawkins. She was 8!!! She is an old soul. Thank you and I love your reactions.
Good comments about her ability to hear inflections. Some psychologists call this the "integrative" function of the brain, where perceptions are processed into concepts. There's a recent interview where she said her mother was trying to get her to sing, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star', and she said basically, no, I want to sing jazz. In fact, there's a short clip showing her in a crib at the age of 1-1/2 years, singing a short riff from Whitney Houston. Check out her rendition of "Summertime" in the Norway Got Talent finals.
@@CalebColesMusic there's also examples of her refusing to sing along with the other children in the nursery rimes and children's Christmas song at preschool ruclips.net/video/pyokeKeymz0/видео.html
My guess is she was a good singer in her previous life, and continued that while she was on the other side. There is nothing unusual i her upbringing, that could make her connect the song to her emotions in the way she does.
I would continue with the Norway's Got Talent performances so you can see how much she progressed in just a few weeks in the competition: I'm A Fool To Want You--Acapella--7yrs old Bang Bang-- 8yrs old Summertime-- 8yrs old But I would definitely suggest that you react to her cover of Screamin Jay Hawkins' I Put A Spell On You when she was just 9yrs old. It's a black and white video of her in the recording studio and you actually see Hawkins' face on a lit candle at the beginning of the video and she arranged the music for her cover. It is INSANE! Great reaction. Cheers!
Angelina sang the song " Summer Time " that won her the competition . Her performance was out of this world . Try reacting to that next and then just go on from there , it's all great . P.S. You should do some more Diana Ankudinova Like her song " Rechenka " . Can't even describe how amazing it it .
She holds her breath through a phrase, a long phrase. Are there other young children that do this? She has a strong filling. She will increase every decade.
My personal opinion on how she developed such an ear to detail is this : she has grandparents from at least 3 different countries (Norway, Japan and Iran I believe) and the languages from those countries have very different frequencies. It's hard for example to learn perfect Japanese as an adult because we have lost our ability to hear some of the frequencies that language uses and can't always distinguish between sounds that are different to them but not to us. I guess the fact that very young she was exposed to 4 different languages including English from the songs she listened to that she gained the ability to hear a lot of details that are not apparent to most people with only 1 or 2 languages.
Enjoyed your reaction! 😊 A few more that I would suggest, is what you've been suggested already - "I Put a Spell On You" when she was 9 or 10. And after that, I'd suggest either "A Million Years Ago" (Adelle cover) or "Born To Die" (Lana Del Rey cover), or both. Those she did when she was 12, and they really showcase her lower register which is amazingly textured and deep. Her timbre is just so warm and emotional.
there is a British gentleman wgo only evaluates Andelina who does wonderful, kind, detailed analysis of her and her family. it has helped me really enjoy Angie’s growth. You would;d find him helpful as well. What a darling treasure Angelina is. cheers...
I'm always grateful when someone who knows more details corrects me if I've said something incorrect. Yay. It makes me feel comfortable just saying things off the top of my head that i remember. She has become important for many .. including me .. and I'm always glad to hear some details. For me she has become a wondrous balm in the midst of this Pandemic and divisiveness.
She met a young girl who owned no shoes so she gave her the ones off her feet. The young girl said she would pray for her daily. Since then, Angelina vowed to never wear shoes on stage until all children of the world had shoes. She would make special annotations on the lyric pages for her instrumentalist that she specifically wanted changed. I have to believe she was born with this. My son picked up an acoustic guitar, violin, electric guitar and was the only other in our church to play our music ministries harp and grand piano before he was 12 , immediately played them! Not 100% accurately for a few days however. My husband and I aren't musicians at all. I really believe some children just have "it". Look at Billie Eilish! What are your thoughts...
To be fair, the voice inflection and style Angelina has had to come from training herself after hearing the singers first. Maybe the younger they are exposed to music or certain artists, they are able initially to mimic, then this angel felt that grit and passion and her mind had to interpret it. Not sure, but Dimash had a similar story. He was taken to music lessons for half his school day then regular education for the other half. Sorry for the rambling, but I'd love to hear your take on this.
Wow, that is really special that she has chosen to do that. Also really interesting about your son! I think there is certainly a natural ability some people have, however I think only hard work and attentiveness can activate it :)
She said she's never been nervous before singing. She started singing jazz when she found it on Ipad/RUclips at 18 months. Look for "I'm a Fool to Want You." It is acapella. Her teeth fit her age. I suspect it was a tryout round for NGT.
Yes. She is the real deal. Try ‘Summertime’ from the same competition. I have an old double LP with ‘Ella & Lois’ singing the whole opera. Yes - it’s an opera. And was emazed of her ability to mimic most of Ella’s performance. What a great sense of rythm’s. For a while some said; she’s just a mimic. Like a parrot. So what’s wrong with learning from Ella ? In the meantime, she’s stepped ahead and has the ability to make most songs ‘her own’. BUT always a bit of jazz ! She’s also tried a Whitney song. OK I guess. BUT she can go really high AS well. We are AS exited AS you are to see where this will go. Shewas asked some time ago about her best memory so far: Being invited by Quincy Jones to sing on HIS birthday. Yes; she’s been around. And AGT stage brings no fear !
From very young age Angelina attended to one of the many "cultural schools" in Norway. There shall be at least one such afternoon school in every community , free of charge. Teaching music, dancing, acting, fine arts etc. Nice and deasent paying jobs for us artists (i´ve been teaching painting and sculpture) Her mother also used to take her to jazz saxophonist Bodil Niskas jazz café/recordshop "bare jass" (just jazz) in Oslo, to listen to the music of the jazz history - because that was what the little girl wanted to do. A fascinating kid
Thanks for the info! Makes a lot of sense :)
I guess grandma was unabel to keep her away from those records, and I`m shure she didn`t mind to let her play them. Who would not wish to be there at that time, watching youn Angelina digging aand singing along to Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald . . . . ;-D
@@CalebColesMusic Thanks again for a wonderful reaction and analyzis of Angelina's singing.
She had been in after school vocal classes from early age. Still a prodigy. Born to sing .
@@CalebColesMusic This is original hungarian song!!!! 1935! ruclips.net/video/BOkUd4IZHE0/видео.html
Angelina started listening to jazz, and imitating it, at the same age when children learn to speak. It is her mother tongue.
Thanks.
She doesn't get nervous, she's in her element, she owns the room You don't nervous when you know no fault will be found.
Angelina is it in Los Angeles California now going to school
Net worth 9.4 Dollars USD
This is not a criticism, just an observation that what we all discovered here was a slightly rough diamond, but clearly a gem from the start.
an uncut diamond is still a gem :)
She is a prodigy, no doubt. Thanks for your lovely, intelligent and respectful reaction, I really enjoyed this. Crossing my fingers you will do more with Angelina :)
She is prodigy and an old soul.
Disgusted?
...In most of her younger at -play videos she has a bored look out the camera and doesn't smile... bet she wanted to be studying music instead
...she wanted to enter contests at 5ish but was too young to apply...already determined and obsessed with her music...I'll bet she viewed play was a waste of time.
A
.
Agreed. I previously speculated perfect pitch, a sense of rythym, and an IQ of 200+.
Thank you...great read, explanation
A gift she brought with her when she was born..
Love your reactions on Angelina! Before you do anything else: b/w version of "I PUT A SPELL ON YOU"! 😍 She's 9 in that one.
Loved your reaction and I totally agree with you!
Making the judge cry... She did in AGT champions too.
I forgot to thank you Caleb for your 2 wonderful reactions to Angelina. I get carried away sometimes when writing about her.
That would make a lot of sense!
She is just precious!!! I cannot believe how fast she is growing up.
I don't think it's nature or nurture. Just a daily diet of 2 quarts of whiskey and 3 packs of smokes. ;-)
@@103mrg Wouldn't that be classified as part of the "nurture"?
@@103mrg LOL , one of the judges at the end of her performance said something about her tasp in her voice ; she must have drank whiskey dice the day she was born. But all joking aside Angelina as great as a singer she is, she is even a greater humanitarian.
I have never met anyone at 6 years old give up her favorite pair of shoes to someone else in need. And then to this day keeping her promise to perform barefoot in every public performance. And even in the studio in her black and white version of "I put a spell on you".
She is also a published author at the age of 9, Norway's youngest author.
Angelina is an AWESOME singer! Her singing can bring out emotions. It's obvious she gets into her song(s). Looking forward to following her career.
"Quite special" is an acceptable understatement. She's downright phenomenal. I'd strongly recommend you try listening to her version of "I put a spell you"
yes i still watch that one over and over...mesmerizing
She has a original song. What’s life. 🇳🇿💖😊🙏
Thanks Caleb, I always enjoy your reactions. You always provide fair and detailed analysis, as well as a nice laid back vibe, as opposed to many reactors who seem to focus a lot more on getting views than actually provide any insight.
Listen to her black and white video of "I put a spell on you" when she was 9! I promise you are spellbound then
I can vote for that...IT WILL IMPRESS YOU...that i can guarrantee
It is a cover of Screamin Jay Hawkins whose picture is on the candle she's holding SJH original: ruclips.net/video/7kGPhpvqtOc/видео.html You should listen to SJH first so you can see how she improved on it. She also arraigned her version.
I agree what a performance - I put a spell on you
Heyke Piepenschneider Most definitely recommend you listen to it!
back to Black Favorite performances I put a Spell on you & she did what a God Gift she had

I hate reaction videos but I love angelina your reaction is intuitive intelligent and very pure thank you
Angelina is always barefooted, I'm beginning to think that is her trademark.
She's a genius - natural ability.
After watching this about 50 times I went back and listened to the Billie Holliday version and was amazed at how much Angelina sounded like the original.
I'm glad to see you react to where it all started. when i saw this moment on Norwegian TV, my life changed, when it comes to my view on music.... you have so much more to looking forward to if you continue on your reaction journey to her 😇
Yes, It's crazy!!!!!
ALWAYS WHEN I'M NERVOUS I LET ANGELINA TO CALM MY SOUL, SHE IS THE CURE FOR MY SOUL.
she loves jazz and her family supports her she has a gift
I put a spell on you is one of my fav from her...and "shield" that she made herself is also an impresssive performance... she started singing at the age of 2 years old
I know you're a Queen fan and not sure if you know but Angel-ina covered 'the show must on.' You'll be blown away! I love the insights you offer...thank you 😊
Its just her brain and ability! Gorgeous voice!!!
Angelina Jordan
- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14 (7 in this performance)
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through RUclips videos and started studying all the greats from Jazz history.
(angelinajordanofficial)
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood.
(all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
I think Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived, I feel if she avoids the pitfalls of child success.
You're ready for "I put a spell in you".
Ps: she did the arrengement of every song!
2:54 No, she is not. That is the thing that makes me amazed. She said that she really is not nervous. (She said it later in Norway's Got Talent)
Fantastic comments!
Eloquently explained.
Angelina has a video on RUclips showing her in a crib at 1.5 years old singing on key the song “I Will Always Love You” Also her grandmother always played jazz at home.
BILLIE HALLIDAY WAS HER FAV FROM AN EARLY AGE
Tarzan and Nanny Mcphee had a baby, a very beautiful and talented baby it must be said.
Loved your informative and humourous reaction, will watch out for more from you reacting to our Angelina.
Hi Call, I am glad you started with that song, now go to Summertime, What a different a day made, and I Put a Spell on You ( black and white) and so on. Thank you for listening to that and great reaction!❗💜
The pure vocal.
The ear
Trained. Perfect pirch.
You should absolut listen to the next song - a cappella I am a fool to want you! Incredible. Her grandmother listen to old jazz 😃
Yes
Definently an old soul her songs flo effortlessly AMAZING
Goosebumps perf, gr8 reaction Caleb👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good comments about her ability to hear inflections. Some psychologists call this the "integrative" function of the brain, where perceptions are processed into concepts. There's a recent interview where she said her mother was trying to get her to sing, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star', and she said basically, no, I want to sing jazz. In fact, there's a short clip showing her in a crib at the age of 1-1/2 years, singing a short riff from Whitney Houston. Check out her rendition of "Summertime" in the Norway Got Talent finals.
That is some really cool info! Thanks. I'll check it out :)
@@CalebColesMusic there's also examples of her refusing to sing along with the other children in the nursery rimes and children's Christmas song at preschool ruclips.net/video/pyokeKeymz0/видео.html
Please, do her "I'm a fool to want you" a capella rendition....no words needed !!
@@nautilusdeep8335 hear hear .... I second that request
My guess is she was a good singer in her previous life, and continued that while she was on the other side. There is nothing unusual i her upbringing, that could make her connect the song to her emotions in the way she does.
I would continue with the Norway's Got Talent performances so you can see how much she progressed in just a few weeks in the competition:
I'm A Fool To Want You--Acapella--7yrs old
Bang Bang-- 8yrs old
Summertime-- 8yrs old
But I would definitely suggest that you react to her cover of Screamin Jay Hawkins' I Put A Spell On You when she was just 9yrs old.
In addition to singing, Jordan plays the piano, violin, guitar, and flute, and also paints.
She holds her breath through a phrase, a long phrase. Are there other young children that do this?
She has a strong filling. She will increase every decade.
Here is some additional excellent work from this young superstar to be
My personal opinion on how she developed such an ear to detail is this : she has grandparents from at least 3 different countries (Norway, Japan and Iran I believe) and the languages from those countries have very different frequencies.
Her grandmother used to play jazz music around the house, so she heard a lot of it growing up.
Enjoyed your reaction! 😊
A few more that I would suggest, is what you've been suggested already - "I Put a Spell On You" when she was 9 or 10.
Would love to see you react to her cover of summertime, from the same show.
there is a clip of her singing at 1 year old and one of her 6 in a recording studio
Loved your reactions. Like her you are down to earth.
This is her first apperance on the show Norway got talent . She won this show at the age of 8 years old.
You should react to her cover of I put a spell on you...she was about ten and you see her range as a jazz singer.
Somewhere she said they were green boots and she really loved them.
@@CalebColesMusic She's also gone on to raise millions of $ for children's charities.
And AGT stage brings no fear !
ola knut Olsen Recorded at 10, I think this version of Angelina's Summertime is by far her best:

From very young age Angelina attended to one of the many "cultural schools" in Norway. There shall be at least one such afternoon school in every community , free of charge. Teaching music, dancing, acting, fine arts etc. Nice and deasent paying jobs for us artists (i´ve been teaching painting and sculpture) Her mother also used to take her to jazz saxophonist Bodil Niskas jazz café/recordshop "bare jass" (just jazz) in Oslo, to listen to the music of the jazz history - because that was what the little girl wanted to do. A fascinating kid
ANGELINA IS THE BEST!
