I am astonished that these photos have riled people up. If you don't like it, don't buy the magazine. But why all the vitriol? We've seen scantily clad men, and women sexually objectified on magazine covers for decades. Think Kim Kardashian, or even Madonna... Kristen's photo shoot isn't explicit. It's provocative, fun and, ironic. She looks great, like a real human rather then a photoshopped glamour pin up. Like someone who feels able to do whatever they want to. I really wonder what exactly it is that upsets people about this cover? I was never into women being sexually objectified. These Rolling Stone photos of Kristen Stewert are also sexually objectifying though. Can you not see that? To me, there is something more behind people's visceral response to them - it's more than finding her unattractive, or being anti-gay or anti queer. This type of sexual objectification struck me as disturbing because of the vacant looks on her face. It's not showing fullness of life, love and embodiment in her, but a vacancy that comes with abuse. I'm not saying that Kristen has been sexually abused, but these photos depict its effect on a person in any case. The effects of abuse are not "fun!", are not "queer!", and people recognizing there is something off about these photos doesn't mean they are anti-gay/queer/trans. These photos remind me of the period of time when models were photographed similar to drug addicts, thin and disheveled. Why does that need to be promoted dishonestly, under the guise of "fun photo shoot with Kristen just being herself!"?.
