That is really unfortunate, I've had my PS5 for a little over a year now and I can tell you with 100% confidence that it should NOT sound like what your does. From personal experience even when reading a disk, my PS5 is whisper quite and I totally agree that that should be the case for everyone!

But I think i'm going to watch some videos on fixes and see if there's anything I can do myself then yeah, a repair shop is a good shout! They'll probably fix it immediately. Thank you! Just took mine back. Not trying to start a war but i feel sony rushed it more. My series x will do fine for now. Yes sonys first party is awesome but the system isnt as good.

Just found your video and pretty spot on with customer service I have been experiencing with Sony. I bought my PS5 in July of this year from Playstation website, it was the horizon bundle. The whole reason I purchased this console was to play God of War by the time it was released. Had my Preorder set the same day I bought the PS5. Haven't had any issues with PS5 had been playing all along. Then God of War arrives in the mail on the release date. I go to turn on my PS5 and all I get is some loud noises and flashes on the TV. I start doing research to see if there is anything I can do to fix it tried all the trouble shooting tips and still no video. So I finally gave in was just going to return my system for repairs. Went online filled out all paper work went through the email back and forth over the next week. They said they were sending me a box to send the playstation back in so it took a few days to get the box. Right when I get the box wrap my PS5 up and it's back at the UPS store the same day to ship out. After the repair I get my PS5 back this week go to plug it in getting ready to finally try my brand new God of War game. Turn the PS5 on and bam safe mode only option #7 available... Start trying to trouble shoot again and finally did find a way to get it working! I was able to play God of War, ya! Was feeling good thought they really did fix something and that I just needed to do a complete restart. I then go to turn on Playstation the next day and it says there has been an error encountered now PS5 has to do a rebuild... I say okay and let it go. Nothing... the system just starts flashing blue for the next hour or so and I go to check on it. The system isn't on it's just flashing blue. So I turn off then bam right back to Safe Mode Option #7. This time it won't let me access anything else at all no matter what I do and starts automatically resetting itself every 30 seconds. So I call the customer service number and wait for 50 MINUTES finally get through to someone, give them my phone number old case number, etc. Halfway explaining what's going on they hang-up on me!!!! I am livid... Never called me back. So I make sure this morning to call at 9 a.m. to avoid 1hr wait time. Still had a 25 minute wait time. After explaining everything to the customer service person I am now sending my playstation back for another so called "service repair". After this experience I have to admit I am going to be much more cautious going forward with anything to do with Sony. I feel there is 0 customer loyalty with this company. Sorry for the longwinded message but I had to let it out somewhere and after hearing your story and reading others comments on here this is an outlet. With this kind of reputation Sony is building it's a wonder why they aren't being sued for legitment reasons like the ones being posted on here.
I think you read only half my message. To sum up I sent system back after receiving box. Got system back after so called “repairs” it didn’t work and had to do this B.S. all over again… still waiting for my “fixed” Ps5… we’ll see.
Also, it's funny. Here in Australia, Sony/PlayStation don't send you a box or packaging materials, you just have to find one or use the one it came with (if you didn't throw it away)

Man this sounds like a nightmare. I hope this never happen to me. Got my ps5 a couple months ago and it's pretty quite during disc play. Sony needs to do a better job. They are making billions in profits, this should not even be an issue.

You see this is exactly why I hate the fact that Sony or Microsoft support will no longer help you over the phone and force you to use the website because you have a legitimate issue with your system make way too much noise more so then usual but there's no way to convey that on the site if you say the issue is noise the site just assumes you mean the normal levels of coil whine and redirects completely dismissing your claim. Where as if you could actually talk to a person live on the phone you could get them to understand you already are aware of what coil whine is and know what the normal and acceptable operating sounds if the PS5 are and what your experiencing is not that. That's why I can't stand the bullshit automation that takes place with these companies customer service hotlines. It really goes to show you they don't actually care about their customers at all.

The immense patience you have with these people, incredible. What an experience that took about a year and it's not even solved...just, WOW. I remember sending my xbox 360 back to Microsoft, back in the day when that was new. And it wasn't a hassle at all...overal it took less than a Month and I got my console back. I know, different companies, different times. (Different countries have influence too perhaps? I live in the Netherlands) but holy crap, never have I thought it would be SUCH a drama. And you don't even make the drama out of it for them to lack replies; you stayed polite and kept on re-writing issues over and over to make them understand what's wrong. Good god.... I sure as heck hope you get a bit more luck over time with this. And perhaps to soften wounds (but actually doesn't help you at all) , my ps5 is loud too. And I thought it was normal...now I know it isn't. Ugh. I don't even want to attempt to send it back...
Thank you for the comment! When I first posted this video I was half expecting people to be like "mate your warranty expired, stop complaining". But then comments like this helps me put it in perspective and I realise, no, Sony have been * awful.* And yeah, it is especially frustrating when you've been very polite and reasonable but the huge corporation can't give you the same level of respect. Wow. Yeah there have been a few people say that they have had far better experiences dealing with Microsoft. Sony needs to take note. If you do decide to send it back, let me know how you go! As you say, it might be better in the Netherlands! And if you are still in warranty, I would just keep pushing them to fix it. Been there done that.....with two of them. YES.... I received two bad units from Direct PlayStation online and returned them both for a REFUND within the 30 day window for disc drive issues supported by Tech Support. Third time was the charm...from Walmart. No noise at all. Agree with all your comments...and they got the nerve to send me a survey....Ya...I responded....LOL Their CHAT support is USELESS!!!!

The only reason I bought one was my PS4 pro was getting old but still works fine. I really didn't see any diff in the graphics on the games I play but maybe loading times. I did make sure I got the 1200 series do to some of the changes they made over time. All this just happened in the last month or so.
Bro I am so sorry your going through this , I just got my brand new PS5 on Thursday and so far so good , I am watching Scarface on Blue Ray and it makes absolutely no noise at all , that one you got is still faulty, they improved these new ones big time
That’s a 100% faulty disc drive. Yes, Sony is right and the buzzing noise could increase in intensive situations and disc reading sometimes, but not all the time. About the fan noise There are a handful of PS5 fan models available. Such as the Delta, NMB v1,v2, Nidec etc. They all sound differently. Unfortunately you wouldn’t know which model fan you’ll be getting outside the box, you would have to lift the faceplate and count how many blades the fan has. I would prefer the NMB v2. Coil whine is perfectly normal.
They are the worst. I had an issue where I put in a ps5 game disk and it took me to the store of that same game and I hit ok. Thinking it was prompting me to enter the game and it was actually asking me to purchase the game. So essentially I just bought the game a second time. Sony would not refund me my money. I had to go through a whole week of calls and badgering to get my refund. Holy hell.
Currently in the process of a nail biting waiting to see my PlayStation again totally agree sending it out is the scary part but I was lucky enough to have a whisper sounding ps5 but 6 months in it won’t power on the disk drive beeps but no l.e.d lights I bought mine from pc world and the hardware fix guy said he’s tried to return 4 broken ps5s with same issue in past 6 months and he showed me way to get into a page for repairs for ps5 and the PlayStation website is god awful and so Is customer support my brother lost his phone and his iCloud then couldn’t remember his email either so we nearly lost the main PlayStation account he was on the phone for 2 hours proving his identity through bank cards an such yeah it’s a head banging process
Mine isn't whisper quiet. I've had my ps5 around 16 months and every PS5 game produces coil whine (not as bad as yours) but PS4 games tend to be alot quieter. I did however have to send my dual sense in for stick drift and the initial response was quick and easy, but once they had it I was unable to get any update from the tracking info and spent numerous hours on the phone. It took around 2 months from them receiving it to returning it. On the plus side it was fixed . Like you I was Sony loyal! 😒
They can give you a refurbished one for $400. You’d be crazy to do that. When brand new digital is $400 or just spend the extra hundred bucks and get a brand new disc version. Apple does the same thing with their phones. They make the pro models so similar to the promax where you have to buy the promax for just 100 bucks more these companies do that on purpose.
Well it's $400AUD, our full priced PS5s cost $800 for the disc version (After the increase) but still not worth it to have the same console but quieter. Apple is a pro at that yes.
There aer three different models of fans that SONY uses when building the PS5. My guess is you may have the loudest of the three. There are videos on swapping them out for better units that run much quieter. I would look into this as I think it will cure the challenge you are facing.
I have a model that you can not even take out the fan. No screws that I can see. But mine isn’t broken just adding more memory and I noticed there’s no way replacing the fan if I wanted to.
I have a unique sticker covering the glossy centre. Mostly to hide any of the scratches but if I ever need to get it repaired I'll know for sure whether they replaced it or actually fixed the same console I sent them.
I went digital for PS4 gen because I don't enjoy complex and noisy moving parts like Blu-ray drives, nor storing and changing discs constantly. So I have a couple of PS5 Digital consoles and they are both utterly silent - since they have no Blu-ray at all. So I can't comment on your drive, but take to a friend's place and compare. In my view Sony support channels are terrible and worse than most. As an I have tried both I can confirm that Xbox support has be an utter pleasure to deal with, quickly escalated to competent engineers who call me back same day, and who empowered to directly fix things. Even though I prefer PlayStation console, I have to be real that the support sucks. Xbox is up there with Amazon since the empower their support channels to actually fix stuff. E.g. in Australia I tried for a year to get my 'free PSVR adaptor for PS5' spoke to support a dozen times, at no time could they give me any information or send me that adaptor. I gave up and bought a 2nd hand one on ebay.
Yeah, I like having the option of physical and I do still have some Blu Ray movies I like to play. But It's very nice playing digital games. Surprisingly, none of my friends have a PS5. Still haven't been able to get them. Oh that's really interesting about Xbox. Yeah I just love the Sony consoles so much more than Xbox. But nice to know Xbox look after their customers.
I got a PS5 on the 19 of last month my only is an error code 108225-1 close apps yes I got an box to sent it in so that my problem well it is quiet system
Guess I was lucky, mine last 2 years. It was the HDMI port. Waiting for Sony to send the repair box. I have no idea what kind of insanity I'm in for or if they can even fix the problem given what online horror stories Ive read. If I get back unfixed, I may try a 3rd party as last resort. I have no idea if I'd even buy another new one, just have to deal with repairs again. Lots of $$ vested in these games, so I can't just switch to MS again.
My ps5 constantly shuts off ,and when you say you might not be a Sony Fanboy I feel the same way ,I didn’t want to pay to get my console fixed ,definitely makes a bit frustrated
Well the failure rate early on in the 360 life cycle was unacceptable one thing you have to give Microsoft credit for is there customer service at least in my personal experience was pretty damn good. I had 2 360s die on me and they sent me the return boxes pretty quickly and at least here in Canada they simply sent you a brand new 360. Even though my one 360 was past it’s warranty there was no issue. It just cost me 100$ and they replaced it. Hopefully my ps5 stays as reliable as my launch ps4. I really don’t want to have to deal with Sony.
Problem isn’t Sony it’s the sub company that does the rmas. Here in SA we have Partserve and if you have an issue you can go to there offices, and they will literally swop a brand new unit out for whatever reason. They even state that it doesn’t have to be a good one if it’s making noise they would just replace the unit entirely.. Also it’s your COVERS MATE ! Re apply the covers especially the top one, I have the latest Spider-Man 2 edition and it has the Alien sounding fan which is the best. And had that vibrating sound when I first used a disc, removed the top cover put it back and dead silent since. Also have it horizontal.. And regards to the other issues that sounds like the tv and not the Ps5, maybe try another tv or monitor to check to make sure. But that sound your console is making is the cover plates one of them isn’t clicked in all the way, happens especially on limited edition consoles with there respective covers. These plates are installed manually via a human being so there is always room for error.. It’s 100% your plates or one of them. Simply touching the plates will stop the noise so try re apply them..
Hey! That’s super cool about SA. Thanks for the tip on the cover plates but it’s not that. I thought that might have been the issue early on but I’ve attached and re attached them so many times and it hasn’t made a difference. It’s something to do with the actual drive. Someone suggested a fix (which sony added to their website after my initial troubleshooting) which involved manually ejecting a disc using a screwdriver. That helped a bit but hasn’t fully resolved it.
My month old PS5 got bricked after installing a SSD Drive this past Monday and am stuck dealing with Sony repairing it. I’m genuinely hope my situation won’t be this bad.
My god that’s stressful. As yours is so new, you’ve got a lot of time to make sure they fix it. Hopefully they won’t mess you around. Just don’t let them screw you.
Oh it’s awful. Did you get an email from them with return instructions? From memory the direct link in there didn’t work but they had a seperate, less obvious link. Might differ by country though.
They send you a box after you get a case number. You have to wait for the box to come in from fedex or ups. Inside the box there is paperwork to fill out along with all the instructions and return mailing slip. Make sure you send a copy of your receipt for proof of purchase. Then package the system up in the box with paperwork and receipt and slap on return mailer. Then drop it off at postal drop off. I hope this helps.
Had to send my ps5 for repair after 7 months.. games keep crashing did all the possible stuff I could but nothing worked only could stream games got a message that I need to wait another week hopefully it will be fixed
Mine literally doesn’t turn on. The lights never come. It makes a beep sound when I press the eject button, but it never actually lets the disc come out. And it doesn’t let a disc in either. And the power button makes a sound, but doesn’t do anything and if you press it again. It doesn’t make a sound. It’s just completely unresponsive. It’s not dirty, no visible damage, it doesn’t over heat, and I’ve only had it for 4 months, I can’t figure out what is wrong with it.
I know the feeling had that with my ps4 it blow up like a smoke machine... here in South Africa we have a repair place call part save . I took it to them they said it was my fault power surcharge. My console was 5 months old.. I took it to a repair place theu said it was faulty not a power surcharge... sony quality is so bad. I will now get a ps 5 second had.. If it brakes i know and under stand i will have to pay for it .. Not to pay for if it still under warranty
Omg i had a lg 4k player same sound its soooo easy to fix open the disc drive and add some thick ruber pads in it so the case is solid and no vibrating iuses so easy makes it silent 👍😁
My feelings and loyalty to ps is like yours. But I now have a pig ps5 that overheats. I’m going to try to fix it myself. I too plan on upgrading if a pro comes out. This console and Sony pretending like it’s the users fault is bs. My console is 7 months old and super clean. Btw mine runs very quiet and the fan does work. IMO I would not use my system to play movies on. Don’t age your equipment for dumb movies. Buy a cheap blue ray player. Sony has treated its super loyal customer base like axxholes.
I had an issue with my ps4 pro at release too, where I had an similar experience with them.. It was basically when Destiny 2 came out there where issues playing the game where it froze in the intro to the game. Neither Bungie nor sony wanted to take responsibility for it until I went Karen mode on Sony and had the ps4 sent to sony. It wasnt properly fixed the first time though. The game didnt freeze in the intro but it did att different places in the game. Had to send it again though I got a replacement one that time... Turned out it was faulty hardware in some ps4 pros... Although the never took responsibility for it lol. Just to get in contact with sony was a hazzle then.. I feel for you though, it's not the proper experience you deserve.. Might be cheaper for you to try to find a disc reader and replace it yourself, doesnt matter anyway without the warranty :/
What an absolute mess. It’s a real shame, I almost nothing negative to say about Sony until recently because all my previous consoles have worked but it seems like horrible customer service/general attitude is commonplace with them. Good on you for getting to the bottom of it. Glad you got yours sorted in the end. Yeah I might have to watch some videos and try and fix it up myself. Someone else suggested it could just be a sticker flapping around in there.
FYI just received my PS5 back “fixed” from Sony for the second time and worked first time in turned it on let everything update because of course they don’t update anything. Turned off ran some errands came back to play some looooooong awaited PS5 and bam system doesn’t work. Turn on and it just keeps flashing on my tv. Controller don’t work, no safe mode, absolutely nothing I can do but send back for a THIRD time. At some point you would think just send me a new working freaking system…. But seem like at this rate they just gonna keep doing this to me until warranty runs out… I don’t know I’m just pissed.
My son's ps5 he got at Christmas quit showing video so I guess it's the hdmi port problem. At the time it was overheating as well and that's not even getting much play at all. Horrible quality. I guess I'm getting these videos recommended since I looked up how to send it in for repair.
Sent me back a scratched up ps5 refurbished. My spider man one in sep 5 2023 pre order purchase had not one scratch . I took video proof in my phone of the condition mines was in before I sent it off . Now I’m searching and calling in the morning not going for this . Your video came up on my google search . i had to send mine in twice once for no power issue than after i got it back it would only play a game for about fifteen min and than game would crash but after the second time been working since.
My ps5 will claim it can not connect to the ps5 network even tho I'm connected to wifi, and it says I'm logged in. My store and adds/pictures will load for maybe 3 mins and then it'll disconnect... I'm afraid mine is faulty as well. (Digital edition) I tried getting help on the support page, and it was horrible.
I had a similar problem when I first got my system it was fine when I brought it to a friends house it wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi at all and it stayed that way other then randomly shutting off that was my main problem I sent mine in and it’s getting fixed now just waiting for them to send something back
I barely got my ps5 this Christmas and I mine had bunch of problems. It stop reading discs I factory reset it and it work for a bit. Then the disc drive started making lots of noise just by turning on. And finally it didn't want to update which made it unusable.
As far as the sound goes my TV does it as well when I play games but with me the audio just cuts out of nowhere on a rare occasion but it'll come back after a little while but it'll come back right away if I turn off the TV and back on again.
I returned my ps5 due to it not having power to it due to a power surge they sent me a ps5 that has the green screen of death like idk what to do at this point i can’t win at all imma try to return this one and see how it goes
There a guy on youtube mr techtronics he might be able to fix it.yours is very loud i think its a fan issue and a disc issue.i got extended warranty so if that happened to me i get my fix .sony should give you a new one.dont put the ps5 upwards horizontal is best .

The CE-108255-1. I had done everything, I could do and still had issues. When I spoke with them two days ago I was told there was a hardware issue and it was resolved. I asked what and got hit with can't say proprietary yada yada, no one outside of Sony has the components. So they wouldn't even say what it was, but it's scheduled back today so we shall see.
@@ToastierWaffle I sent mine in Dec 16, I'm scheduled to get it back today, Dec 30. It waited a week on the dock ready to ship though I was told FedEx only picks up 2-3 times a week and with the holidays they were pretty backed up also with Christmas I feel like that set mine back as well.
Returned the first one, they sent me another one and now I'm having to send the second one back as it refuses to load certain ps5 games,...expensive brick! Seriously considering moving to Xbox.
That’s so annoying! Yeah it would be tempting to move over considering all the people in the comments here saying Microsoft’s customer service is really really good. But the dualsense controller and the exclusive games will probably keep me with PlayStation.

i bought mine a month ago & two days ago i was playing the last of us it started glitching/artifacting for pretty much all of my games & i switched tvs/hdmi cords also but it only does this for games & not the main menu. i ended up calling sony today so i’m waiting to send in my console for repair
hello i hope you can read my comment and help me, (congratulations for the video and the channel) I bought a new ps5 a month ago which immediately turned out to be faulty, the cd player didn't work at all as if it was completely unplugged in fact the disc wouldn't even fit into the console. like you I did all the steps for the repair. today a month later I received a different new playstation ... which after 20 minutes suddenly turned off during the game. Happened 2 more times in a row within 10 minutes and now it won't turn on all the way. after a month of waiting 2 defective ps5s... I've just started the return of this second console but the site also asked me for my billing address... I paid for a defective ps5, to repair the damage they send me one Is the other defective and now I should also pay as if I don't have the guarantee? I haven't even played a single day with a ps5 and I no longer have the warranty?! like you I would like to avoid having calls waiting for hours... but I can't find a sonyPlaystation email to which I can explain my problem, could you tell me to which sony reference email did you write for your problems?

My ps5 had a software issue that had it stuck in safe mode and unable to reset properly. Tried everything on the website nothing worked. Sent it to Sony and they are trying everything to get out of fixing it for free under the retail warranty. Even trying to say one of my usb ports is damaged which it isn't so they wont repair without the $400 fee. After i get it back im trading towards an Xbox Series X, screw Sony.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Sony, your PS5 is fine with the disc drive, when you put the disc based game in the console for the first time, it's normal for the PS5 to make loud noise because the game is installing onto the SSD, if you let the installation process finish 100% u wouldn't have the noises during game play, except once every 1 - 2 hours, you'll get what you called an authentication check, to check if the disc is still in the drive, that's normal too. I hope this helps.
Why would you not want to talk to the phone on them it's much easier to talk on the phone then it is communicating back and forth in emails when you have to spend forever waiting on them to respond. I'd much rather speak to an actual person then email a bot.
That's a fair point, but at the time, I had two reasons: 1. They have you on hold forever 2. I wanted a record of our conversations in writing (which didn't actually help in the end)
I had a horrible experience with Sony's customer service, when the ps3 slim was released mine went out a month after buying it so i put in a warranty claim to sony and sent it in and it took sony 3 years to send me back my ps3 slim so i steer clear of their customer service or any repairs made by them
This video scares the crap out of me! My PS5, now having it ALMOST A FULL YEAR, just starting turning off on its own. Not even 2-5 min in and it just shuts off. I called customer support and they told me I should get a response from a rep in 48hrs via email. That didn’t happen so I called again and got the sweetest lady. She knew her stuff, she told me they’ll be sending the re-send box in 3-5 business days then just follow the instructions. She also was kind enough to let me know my warranty was valid (literally had a week left on warranty) since the trouble ticket was done before the warranty expired. I PRAY they can fix it but I’d rather want a new one just to ease my mind. Anyway, it sucks but it’s obvious the first batch of PS5s were faulty and had a lot of issues. I’m a patient person so I’ll just make myself busy with something else but yeah, like you, I’ve always been a PlayStation supporter. It’s not good when a company cares more about share holders and competition before their own consumers. Whelp, I’m still waiting on my box but hopefully it all works out. Thanks for sharing!
Oof that’s stressful, although it’s so lucky it didn’t happen a week later. As you’ve already confirmed a return with them within the warranty, you should be fine. Not sure where you’re located but assuming the warranty works the same it does in Australia, you should get an additional 3 months warranty, so (unlike me) once you get it back, make sure they definitely fixed it within that time. And yeah, from these comments it seems XBOX support is infinitely better than PlayStation support. It’ll bite Sony in the butt long term. Good luck with it all!

I’m located in Dallas, Texas, 🇺🇸 but it’s a week before Christmas 🎄 so I know I’m screwed and will just have to be patient, lol. I think I’ll make a couple of videos on my phone to give them like you did so they can see first hand what’s going on. It’s super disappointing this is happening but nothing is perfect. I just bought mine from preordering the modern warfare bundle and received it on game release day. Set it up and installed assassin’s creed origins disc game while I was still setting it up. Took the disc out cause it finished installed and didn’t decide to play it until the day after. So I went to put the disc back in and it made a click sound, a few seconds go by and made another click sound, I tried playing the game but it said to insert the disc to play the game, but the disc is in the drive 👀 took it out, tried putting in God of War, nothing happens except for those two clicks. Tried putting a Blu-ray movie in, same thing happens. I put my ear next to the drive to hear if it’s even spinning in the drive and it’s completely silent. My console doesn’t even notice there’s a disc in the drive. And every time I eject a disc, it literally rolls all the way out instead of holding it so I can remove it. The worst part is, since I bought it preordered, I can’t even return it so I have to contact Sony for a repair, every time I try to request a repair, the chat is unavailable due to availability 😢 everything else about the console works though and luckily this happened my 2nd day of ownership but still, very disappointing

I was able to contact Sony by calling their number in the safety manual and was on hold for only about 15min and tried going through the process with the guy to get it serviced but for whatever reason, I didn’t have a serial number. So I ended up chatting with the support team on the website and was able to send my entire bundle minus the voucher since I had downloaded it already back for a replacement, and I should be getting it back soon. I had gotten a call from PlayStation support this past Friday telling me they received it and I should get my replacement in about 10 business days
Also no Ps5 is whisper quiet that’s an absolute lie ! And again buddy it’s your cover plates not the disc or Ps5 there isn’t a fault it’s one of or two of the plates. Just remove them and re apply..
Ive owned a few ps5’s they are a terrible design. Last night my fan started making nasty noises. Is going back to wall mart, like the other ones . I think its a bad design. Ill stick to my series x. Sony doesn’t care tbh. customer service.I have had playstation since about 97 . I’m 47 now. Not the same company. Things changed good and bad. Besides the exclusives i think its just an ill thought out design. Ill also wait in see if a redesign happens. Sucks . Sony has a bad reputation on the run-around for console problems.
See the problem is Sony has gotten lazy with there service since now they have more sales than Xbox and that’s fucked up we the customer keep there asses in business honestly, we should stop buying from PlayStation maybe then they’ll get it through the thick skulls to take their customers more serious
That is really unfortunate, I've had my PS5 for a little over a year now and I can tell you with 100% confidence that it should NOT sound like what your does. From personal experience even when reading a disk, my PS5 is whisper quite and I totally agree that that should be the case for everyone!

Just found your video and pretty spot on with customer service I have been experiencing with Sony. I bought my PS5 in July of this year from Playstation website, it was the horizon bundle. The whole reason I purchased this console was to play God of War by the time it was released. Had my Preorder set the same day I bought the PS5. Haven't had any issues with PS5 had been playing all along. Then God of War arrives in the mail on the release date. I go to turn on my PS5 and all I get is some loud noises and flashes on the TV. I start doing research to see if there is anything I can do to fix it tried all the trouble shooting tips and still no video. So I finally gave in was just going to return my system for repairs. Went online filled out all paper work went through the email back and forth over the next week. They said they were sending me a box to send the playstation back in so it took a few days to get the box. Right when I get the box wrap my PS5 up and it's back at the UPS store the same day to ship out. After the repair I get my PS5 back this week go to plug it in getting ready to finally try my brand new God of War game. Turn the PS5 on and bam safe mode only option #7 available... Start trying to trouble shoot again and finally did find a way to get it working! I was able to play God of War, ya! Was feeling good thought they really did fix something and that I just needed to do a complete restart. I then go to turn on Playstation the next day and it says there has been an error encountered now PS5 has to do a rebuild... I say okay and let it go. Nothing... the system just starts flashing blue for the next hour or so and I go to check on it. The system isn't on it's just flashing blue. So I turn off then bam right back to Safe Mode Option #7. This time it won't let me access anything else at all no matter what I do and starts automatically resetting itself every 30 seconds.
So I call the customer service number and wait for 50 MINUTES finally get through to someone, give them my phone number old case number, etc. Halfway explaining what's going on they hang-up on me!!!! I am livid... Never called me back. So I make sure this morning to call at 9 a.m. to avoid 1hr wait time. Still had a 25 minute wait time. After explaining everything to the customer service person I am now sending my playstation back for another so called "service repair". After this experience I have to admit I am going to be much more cautious going forward with anything to do with Sony. I feel there is 0 customer loyalty with this company.
Sorry for the longwinded message but I had to let it out somewhere and after hearing your story and reading others comments on here this is an outlet. With this kind of reputation Sony is building it's a wonder why they aren't being sued for legitment reasons like the ones being posted on here.

Also, it's funny. Here in Australia, Sony/PlayStation don't send you a box or packaging materials, you just have to find one or use the one it came with (if you didn't throw it away)
Such a customer service nightmare. I sent in My Acer Laptop for repairs and it was repaired in less than 8 hours and got it back within a week's time.

You see this is exactly why I hate the fact that Sony or Microsoft support will no longer help you over the phone and force you to use the website because you have a legitimate issue with your system make way too much noise more so then usual but there's no way to convey that on the site if you say the issue is noise the site just assumes you mean the normal levels of coil whine and redirects completely dismissing your claim. Where as if you could actually talk to a person live on the phone you could get them to understand you already are aware of what coil whine is and know what the normal and acceptable operating sounds if the PS5 are and what your experiencing is not that. That's why I can't stand the bullshit automation that takes place with these companies customer service hotlines. It really goes to show you they don't actually care about their customers at all.
This is a huge reason why I now main my Xbox series x.
I've had my PS5 for just a little over a year. I just returned it a 2nd time for disc reader failure. Twice. in less than a one year period.

The immense patience you have with these people, incredible. What an experience that took about a year and it's not even solved...just, WOW.
I remember sending my xbox 360 back to Microsoft, back in the day when that was new. And it wasn't a hassle at all...overal it took less than a Month and I got my console back.
I know, different companies, different times. (Different countries have influence too perhaps? I live in the Netherlands) but holy crap, never have I thought it would be SUCH a drama. And you don't even make the drama out of it for them to lack replies; you stayed polite and kept on re-writing issues over and over to make them understand what's wrong. Good god....
I sure as heck hope you get a bit more luck over time with this. And perhaps to soften wounds (but actually doesn't help you at all) , my ps5 is loud too. And I thought it was normal...now I know it isn't. Ugh. I don't even want to attempt to send it back...
Thank you for the comment! When I first posted this video I was half expecting people to be like "mate your warranty expired, stop complaining". But then comments like this helps me put it in perspective and I realise, no, Sony have been * awful.* And yeah, it is especially frustrating when you've been very polite and reasonable but the huge corporation can't give you the same level of respect.
Wow. Yeah there have been a few people say that they have had far better experiences dealing with Microsoft. Sony needs to take note.
If you do decide to send it back, let me know how you go! As you say, it might be better in the Netherlands! And if you are still in warranty, I would just keep pushing them to fix it. Or better yet, maybe you could just take it back to the store you got it from!

Been there done that.....with two of them. YES.... I received two bad units from Direct PlayStation online and returned them both for a REFUND within the 30 day window for disc drive issues supported by Tech Support. Third time was the charm...from Walmart. No noise at all. Agree with all your comments...and they got the nerve to send me a survey....Ya...I responded....LOL Their CHAT support is USELESS!!!!

The only reason I bought one was my PS4 pro was getting old but still works fine. I really didn't see any diff in the graphics on the games I play but maybe loading times. I did make sure I got the 1200 series do to some of the changes they made over time. All this just happened in the last month or so.

That’s a 100% faulty disc drive. Yes, Sony is right and the buzzing noise could increase in intensive situations and disc reading sometimes, but not all the time.
About the fan noise
There are a handful of PS5 fan models available. Such as the Delta, NMB v1,v2, Nidec etc.
They all sound differently. Unfortunately you wouldn’t know which model fan you’ll be getting outside the box, you would have to lift the faceplate and count how many blades the fan has. I would prefer the NMB v2. Coil whine is perfectly normal.
They are the worst. I had an issue where I put in a ps5 game disk and it took me to the store of that same game and I hit ok. Thinking it was prompting me to enter the game and it was actually asking me to purchase the game. So essentially I just bought the game a second time. Sony would not refund me my money. I had to go through a whole week of calls and badgering to get my refund. Holy hell.
Omg that’s the worst. I heard they’re horrific with digital game refunds. The UK is suing Sony over their store apparently.
Currently in the process of a nail biting waiting to see my PlayStation again totally agree sending it out is the scary part but I was lucky enough to have a whisper sounding ps5 but 6 months in it won’t power on the disk drive beeps but no l.e.d lights I bought mine from pc world and the hardware fix guy said he’s tried to return 4 broken ps5s with same issue in past 6 months and he showed me way to get into a page for repairs for ps5 and the PlayStation website is god awful and so Is customer support my brother lost his phone and his iCloud then couldn’t remember his email either so we nearly lost the main PlayStation account he was on the phone for 2 hours proving his identity through bank cards an such yeah it’s a head banging process
Mine isn't whisper quiet. I've had my ps5 around 16 months and every PS5 game produces coil whine (not as bad as yours) but PS4 games tend to be alot quieter. I did however have to send my dual sense in for stick drift and the initial response was quick and easy, but once they had it I was unable to get any update from the tracking info and spent numerous hours on the phone. It took around 2 months from them receiving it to returning it. On the plus side it was fixed . Like you I was Sony loyal! 😒

They can give you a refurbished one for $400. You’d be crazy to do that. When brand new digital is $400 or just spend the extra hundred bucks and get a brand new disc version. Apple does the same thing with their phones. They make the pro models so similar to the promax where you have to buy the promax for just 100 bucks more these companies do that on purpose.
Well it's $400AUD, our full priced PS5s cost $800 for the disc version (After the increase) but still not worth it to have the same console but quieter.

There aer three different models of fans that SONY uses when building the PS5. My guess is you may have the loudest of the three. There are videos on swapping them out for better units that run much quieter. I would look into this as I think it will cure the challenge you are facing.

I have a model that you can not even take out the fan. No screws that I can see. But mine isn’t broken just adding more memory and I noticed there’s no way replacing the fan if I wanted to.
I have a unique sticker covering the glossy centre. Mostly to hide any of the scratches but if I ever need to get it repaired I'll know for sure whether they replaced it or actually fixed the same console I sent them.

I went digital for PS4 gen because I don't enjoy complex and noisy moving parts like Blu-ray drives, nor storing and changing discs constantly. So I have a couple of PS5 Digital consoles and they are both utterly silent - since they have no Blu-ray at all. So I can't comment on your drive, but take to a friend's place and compare.
In my view Sony support channels are terrible and worse than most. As an I have tried both I can confirm that Xbox support has be an utter pleasure to deal with, quickly escalated to competent engineers who call me back same day, and who empowered to directly fix things. Even though I prefer PlayStation console, I have to be real that the support sucks. Xbox is up there with Amazon since the empower their support channels to actually fix stuff.
E.g. in Australia I tried for a year to get my 'free PSVR adaptor for PS5' spoke to support a dozen times, at no time could they give me any information or send me that adaptor. I gave up and bought a 2nd hand one on ebay.
Yeah, I like having the option of physical and I do still have some Blu Ray movies I like to play. But It's very nice playing digital games.

I got a PS5 on the 19 of last month my only is an error code 108225-1 close apps yes I got an box to sent it in so that my problem well it is quiet system
Guess I was lucky, mine last 2 years. It was the HDMI port. Waiting for Sony to send the repair box. I have no idea what kind of insanity I'm in for or if they can even fix the problem given what online horror stories Ive read. If I get back unfixed, I may try a 3rd party as last resort. I have no idea if I'd even buy another new one, just have to deal with repairs again. Lots of $$ vested in these games, so I can't just switch to MS again.

Well the failure rate early on in the 360 life cycle was unacceptable one thing you have to give Microsoft credit for is there customer service at least in my personal experience was pretty damn good. I had 2 360s die on me and they sent me the return boxes pretty quickly and at least here in Canada they simply sent you a brand new 360.
Even though my one 360 was past it’s warranty there was no issue. It just cost me 100$ and they replaced it.
Hopefully my ps5 stays as reliable as my launch ps4. I really don’t want to have to deal with Sony.

Problem isn’t Sony it’s the sub company that does the rmas.
Here in SA we have Partserve and if you have an issue you can go to there offices, and they will literally swop a brand new unit out for whatever reason.
They even state that it doesn’t have to be a good one if it’s making noise they would just replace the unit entirely..

Re apply the covers especially the top one, I have the latest Spider-Man 2 edition and it has the Alien sounding fan which is the best.
And had that vibrating sound when I first used a disc, removed the top cover put it back and dead silent since.
Also have it horizontal..
And regards to the other issues that sounds like the tv and not the Ps5, maybe try another tv or monitor to check to make sure.
But that sound your console is making is the cover plates one of them isn’t clicked in all the way, happens especially on limited edition consoles with there respective covers.
These plates are installed manually via a human being so there is always room for error..
It’s 100% your plates or one of them.
Simply touching the plates will stop the noise so try re apply them..

Thanks for the tip on the cover plates but it’s not that. I thought that might have been the issue early on but I’ve attached and re attached them so many times and it hasn’t made a difference. It’s something to do with the actual drive. Someone suggested a fix (which sony added to their website after my initial troubleshooting) which involved manually ejecting a disc using a screwdriver. That helped a bit but hasn’t fully resolved it.
Website is awful but call took me 10min and return label all sorted in 30min. That is in Ireland tho.
My month old PS5 got bricked after installing a SSD Drive this past Monday and am stuck dealing with Sony repairing it. I’m genuinely hope my situation won’t be this bad.
My god that’s stressful. As yours is so new, you’ve got a lot of time to make sure they fix it. Hopefully they won’t mess you around. Just don’t let them screw you.

Hey, I was wondering if you found out where they were? I’m still struggling to find it.
They send you a box after you get a case number. You have to wait for the box to come in from fedex or ups. Inside the box there is paperwork to fill out along with all the instructions and return mailing slip. Make sure you send a copy of your receipt for proof of purchase. Then package the system up in the box with paperwork and receipt and slap on return mailer. Then drop it off at postal drop off. I hope this helps.

Had to send my ps5 for repair after 7 months.. games keep crashing did all the possible stuff I could but nothing worked only could stream games got a message that I need to wait another week hopefully it will be fixed
Mine literally doesn’t turn on. The lights never come. It makes a beep sound when I press the eject button, but it never actually lets the disc come out. And it doesn’t let a disc in either. And the power button makes a sound, but doesn’t do anything and if you press it again. It doesn’t make a sound. It’s just completely unresponsive. It’s not dirty, no visible damage, it doesn’t over heat, and I’ve only had it for 4 months, I can’t figure out what is wrong with it.
Definitely get in contact with Sony Support if you haven't already, it's well within the warranty.
Four issues so far your one issue away from making it five that pretty much equates what it is to be a ps5 owner

Omg i had a lg 4k player same sound its soooo easy to fix open the disc drive and add some thick ruber pads in it so the case is solid and no vibrating iuses so easy makes it silent 👍😁
My feelings and loyalty to ps is like yours. But I now have a pig ps5 that overheats. I’m going to try to fix it myself. I too plan on upgrading if a pro comes out. This console and Sony pretending like it’s the users fault is bs. My console is 7 months old and super clean. Btw mine runs very quiet and the fan does work. IMO I would not use my system to play movies on. Don’t age your equipment for dumb movies. Buy a cheap blue ray player. Sony has treated its super loyal customer base like axxholes.

I had an issue with my ps4 pro at release too, where I had an similar experience with them.. It was basically when Destiny 2 came out there where issues playing the game where it froze in the intro to the game. Neither Bungie nor sony wanted to take responsibility for it until I went Karen mode on Sony and had the ps4 sent to sony. It wasnt properly fixed the first time though. The game didnt freeze in the intro but it did att different places in the game. Had to send it again though I got a replacement one that time... Turned out it was faulty hardware in some ps4 pros... Although the never took responsibility for it lol. Just to get in contact with sony was a hazzle then.. I feel for you though, it's not the proper experience you deserve.. Might be cheaper for you to try to find a disc reader and replace it yourself, doesnt matter anyway without the warranty :/
What an absolute mess. It’s a real shame, I almost nothing negative to say about Sony until recently because all my previous consoles have worked but it seems like horrible customer service/general attitude is commonplace with them.

FYI just received my PS5 back “fixed” from Sony for the second time and worked first time in turned it on let everything update because of course they don’t update anything. Turned off ran some errands came back to play some looooooong awaited PS5 and bam system doesn’t work. Turn on and it just keeps flashing on my tv. Controller don’t work, no safe mode, absolutely nothing I can do but send back for a THIRD time. At some point you would think just send me a new working freaking system…. But seem like at this rate they just gonna keep doing this to me until warranty runs out… I don’t know I’m just pissed.

My son's ps5 he got at Christmas quit showing video so I guess it's the hdmi port problem. At the time it was overheating as well and that's not even getting much play at all. Horrible quality. I guess I'm getting these videos recommended since I looked up how to send it in for repair.

Sent me back a scratched up ps5 refurbished. My spider man one in sep 5 2023 pre order purchase had not one scratch . I took video proof in my phone of the condition mines was in before I sent it off . Now I’m searching and calling in the morning not going for this . Your video came up on my google search . i had to send mine in twice once for no power issue than after i got it back it would only play a game for about fifteen min and than game would crash but after the second time been working since.
My ps5 will claim it can not connect to the ps5 network even tho I'm connected to wifi, and it says I'm logged in. My store and adds/pictures will load for maybe 3 mins and then it'll disconnect... I'm afraid mine is faulty as well. (Digital edition) I tried getting help on the support page, and it was horrible.
I had a similar problem when I first got my system it was fine when I brought it to a friends house it wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi at all and it stayed that way other then randomly shutting off that was my main problem I sent mine in and it’s getting fixed now just waiting for them to send something back
I barely got my ps5 this Christmas and I mine had bunch of problems. It stop reading discs I factory reset it and it work for a bit. Then the disc drive started making lots of noise just by turning on. And finally it didn't want to update which made it unusable.
I just got mine after Christmas. Stopped working... wouldn't power on at all in February. Sent it in. it's under warranty. hoping they fix it
I called them 2 times to get the box so show I can it back but still did not get the email to do that its a huge pain

As far as the sound goes my TV does it as well when I play games but with me the audio just cuts out of nowhere on a rare occasion but it'll come back after a little while but it'll come back right away if I turn off the TV and back on again.

I returned my ps5 due to it not having power to it due to a power surge they sent me a ps5 that has the green screen of death like idk what to do at this point i can’t win at all imma try to return this one and see how it goes

There a guy on youtube mr techtronics he might be able to fix it.yours is very loud i think its a fan issue and a disc issue.i got extended warranty so if that happened to me i get my fix .sony should give you a new one.dont put the ps5 upwards horizontal is best .

The CE-108255-1. I had done everything, I could do and still had issues. When I spoke with them two days ago I was told there was a hardware issue and it was resolved. I asked what and got hit with can't say proprietary yada yada, no one outside of Sony has the components. So they wouldn't even say what it was, but it's scheduled back today so we shall see.
@@ToastierWaffle I sent mine in Dec 16, I'm scheduled to get it back today, Dec 30. It waited a week on the dock ready to ship though I was told FedEx only picks up 2-3 times a week and with the holidays they were pretty backed up also with Christmas I feel like that set mine back as well.

Yeah it would be tempting to move over considering all the people in the comments here saying Microsoft’s customer service is really really good. But the dualsense controller and the exclusive games will probably keep me with PlayStation.

i bought mine a month ago & two days ago i was playing the last of us it started glitching/artifacting for pretty much all of my games & i switched tvs/hdmi cords also but it only does this for games & not the main menu. i ended up calling sony today so i’m waiting to send in my console for repair

I bought a new ps5 a month ago which immediately turned out to be faulty, the cd player didn't work at all as if it was completely unplugged in fact the disc wouldn't even fit into the console. like you I did all the steps for the repair.
today a month later I received a different new playstation ... which after 20 minutes suddenly turned off during the game. Happened 2 more times in a row within 10 minutes and now it won't turn on all the way.
after a month of waiting 2 defective ps5s... I've just started the return of this second console but the site also asked me for my billing address... I paid for a defective ps5, to repair the damage they send me one Is the other defective and now I should also pay as if I don't have the guarantee? I haven't even played a single day with a ps5 and I no longer have the warranty?!

My ps5 had a software issue that had it stuck in safe mode and unable to reset properly. Tried everything on the website nothing worked. Sent it to Sony and they are trying everything to get out of fixing it for free under the retail warranty. Even trying to say one of my usb ports is damaged which it isn't so they wont repair without the $400 fee. After i get it back im trading towards an Xbox Series X, screw Sony.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Sony, your PS5 is fine with the disc drive, when you put the disc based game in the console for the first time, it's normal for the PS5 to make loud noise because the game is installing onto the SSD, if you let the installation process finish 100% u wouldn't have the noises during game play, except once every 1 - 2 hours, you'll get what you called an authentication check, to check if the disc is still in the drive, that's normal too. I hope this helps.

Why would you not want to talk to the phone on them it's much easier to talk on the phone then it is communicating back and forth in emails when you have to spend forever waiting on them to respond. I'd much rather speak to an actual person then email a bot.
That's a fair point, but at the time, I had two reasons:
1. They have you on hold forever
2. I wanted a record of our conversations in writing (which didn't actually help in the end)
I had a horrible experience with Sony's customer service, when the ps3 slim was released mine went out a month after buying it so i put in a warranty claim to sony and sent it in and it took sony 3 years to send me back my ps3 slim so i steer clear of their customer service or any repairs made by them

This video scares the crap out of me! My PS5, now having it ALMOST A FULL YEAR, just starting turning off on its own. Not even 2-5 min in and it just shuts off. I called customer support and they told me I should get a response from a rep in 48hrs via email. That didn’t happen so I called again and got the sweetest lady. She knew her stuff, she told me they’ll be sending the re-send box in 3-5 business days then just follow the instructions. She also was kind enough to let me know my warranty was valid (literally had a week left on warranty) since the trouble ticket was done before the warranty expired. I PRAY they can fix it but I’d rather want a new one just to ease my mind. Anyway, it sucks but it’s obvious the first batch of PS5s were faulty and had a lot of issues. I’m a patient person so I’ll just make myself busy with something else but yeah, like you, I’ve always been a PlayStation supporter. It’s not good when a company cares more about share holders and competition before their own consumers. Whelp, I’m still waiting on my box but hopefully it all works out. Thanks for sharing!
Oof that’s stressful, although it’s so lucky it didn’t happen a week later. As you’ve already confirmed a return with them within the warranty, you should be fine. Not sure where you’re located but assuming the warranty works the same it does in Australia, you should get an additional 3 months warranty, so (unlike me) once you get it back, make sure they definitely fixed it within that time.
And yeah, from these comments it seems XBOX support is infinitely better than PlayStation support. It’ll bite Sony in the butt long term.

I’m located in Dallas, Texas, 🇺🇸 but it’s a week before Christmas 🎄 so I know I’m screwed and will just have to be patient, lol. I think I’ll make a couple of videos on my phone to give them like you did so they can see first hand what’s going on. It’s super disappointing this is happening but nothing is perfect. Appreciate the fast reply, I’m just a guy on RUclips but it’s always appreciated when someone replies to comments. 👍

I just bought mine from preordering the modern warfare bundle and received it on game release day. Set it up and installed assassin’s creed origins disc game while I was still setting it up. Took the disc out cause it finished installed and didn’t decide to play it until the day after.
So I went to put the disc back in and it made a click sound, a few seconds go by and made another click sound, I tried playing the game but it said to insert the disc to play the game, but the disc is in the drive 👀 took it out, tried putting in God of War, nothing happens except for those two clicks. Tried putting a Blu-ray movie in, same thing happens. I put my ear next to the drive to hear if it’s even spinning in the drive and it’s completely silent.
My console doesn’t even notice there’s a disc in the drive. And every time I eject a disc, it literally rolls all the way out instead of holding it so I can remove it. The worst part is, since I bought it preordered, I can’t even return it so I have to contact Sony for a repair, every time I try to request a repair, the chat is unavailable due to availability 😢 everything else about the console works though and luckily this happened my 2nd day of ownership but still, very disappointing

I was able to contact Sony by calling their number in the safety manual and was on hold for only about 15min and tried going through the process with the guy to get it serviced but for whatever reason, I didn’t have a serial number. So I ended up chatting with the support team on the website and was able to send my entire bundle minus the voucher since I had downloaded it already back for a replacement, and I should be getting it back soon. I had gotten a call from PlayStation support this past Friday telling me they received it and I should get my replacement in about 10 business days

Ive owned a few ps5’s they are a terrible design. Last night my fan started making nasty noises. Is going back to wall mart, like the other ones . I think its a bad design. Ill stick to my series x. Sony doesn’t care tbh. customer service.I have had playstation since about 97 . I’m 47 now. Not the same company. Things changed good and bad. Besides the exclusives i think its just an ill thought out design. Ill also wait in see if a redesign happens. Sucks . Sony has a bad reputation on the run-around for console problems.
See the problem is Sony has gotten lazy with there service since now they have more sales than Xbox and that’s fucked up we the customer keep there asses in business honestly, we should stop buying from PlayStation maybe then they’ll get it through the thick skulls to take their customers more serious
