she doesn't even realise of the terrible harm that was done to her, she is totaly innocent ,not even capable of hating the people who destroyed her, this is devastating.

That's not true. She verbalized that her father abused her in her mid teens. She had scattered age abilities but was overall mentally around 10 years old at last tests. Some skills were adult, others of a 3 year old. She obviously had been born with normal intelligence. She's smarter than Danielle Crockett. No disrespect to Danielle but I'm pretty sure she was born disabled and that's part of why her mother ignored her. I feel really bad for Genie.

Maybe do some testing by the scientists/therapists every now and then to tell how her development was going, primarily to help _her._ But not excessive testing on a scientific faculty where she couldn't once again have a normal life.
I feel like maybe it was the best if she could've been adopted by the scientist Susan who seems to have had form a genuine bond with her. And her biological mother should've had no say in what happens to her.

Genie's father mostly grew up in orphanages in the American Pacific Northwest. His father died of a lightning strike and his mother ran a brothel while only infrequently seeing him. Additionally, his mother gave him a feminine first name (Pearl) which made him the target of constant derision.
As a result, he harbored extreme resentment towards his mother during childhood, which Genie's brother and the scientists who studied Genie believed was the root of his subsequent anger problems.
When Genie's father reached adulthood he changed his first name to one which was more typically masculine (Clark) , and his mother began to spend as much time with him as she could. He became almost singularly fixated on his mother
when Genie was 20 months old, her paternal grandmother died in a hit-and-run traffic accident. Her death affected Genie's father far beyond normal levels of grief, and because his son had been walking with her he held his son responsible, further heightening his anger. When the truck's driver received only a probationary sentence for both manslaughter and drunk driving, he became delusional with rage. Scientists believed these events made him feel society had failed him and convinced him he would need to protect his family from the outside world, and that in doing so he lacked the self-awareness to recognize the destruction his actions caused.

These scientists, who from what I've seen of longer documentaries grew to adore her, and now they can't even see her? And she's in a state care home? There are just some things on this world that makes me question what triggers these horrible people to do monstrous things. From wikipedia:
Genie is currently a ward of the state of California, and is living in an undisclosed location in the Los Angeles area. In May 2008 ABC News reported that in 2000, someone who talked to them under condition of anonymity had hired a private investigator who located Genie. She was reportedly living a relatively simple lifestyle in a small private facility for mentally underdeveloped adults, and appeared to be happy. Although she only spoke a few words, she could still communicate fairly well in sign language. In 2003, Genie's mother died of unspecified natural causes at the age of 87.
In 2002 Susan Curtis said that she still wanted to see Genie again, primarily to meet with her as a friend but also expressing interest in assessing her language abilities. As of 2008, despite badly missing Genie and repeatedly attempting to find her, Curtis and James Kent had still not seen her since January 1978. In a related May 2008 interview, Genie's brother told reporters he had not seen Genie since 1982 and said he wished he had been more involved in her life. By his own account he had refused to watch or read any accounts of Genie's case until just before he was interviewed, and had only recently heard any updates on her. He was glad she had gotten so much attention, and said he was happy to hear that she was reportedly doing well where she was living.

With all of the progress made in this area of human development we know that she could have benefited from different methods of communication even at that time. Putting her into a long term care facility for people with mentally challenged adults was the worst choice that could’ve been made for her. She had so much potential to develop her socialization skills which is something we learn from those around us. If the only socialization skills she learns are from those that are not capable of using proper skills then she’ll only learn how to socialize dysfunctionally. She would’ve thrived in an assisted living setting that offered many types of rehabilitation like therapy.

Child protective services and the like being horrendous and destroying most things they get a hold of isnt a new thing is it? The woman was nearly as guilty as the man in the abuse and neglect of this child by not doing anything. I dont care how blind or scared you are you can tell someone if you can not act yourself. Fully agree. The mother was as worthless as the father. This child was failed by every single person in her life. The state should have prosecuted and jailed the mother and terminated any parental rights. She had every opportunity to call the cops - instead she let that child suffer for thirteen long years in a cage because she preferred to preserve her own arse and eep hubby happy. Zero respect for women like that.

Your sentence is incorrect. It is either, "I was almost crying when I saw this", or "I cried when I watched this".

Heartbreaking. The poor girl came into this world and was subjected to unimaginable abuse and neglect for 13 years to then have the system lay her back into the hands of the perpetrator! How the fuck is that woman walking 5 years after this poor girl was found?! Let alone having ANY rights over her. What the actual fuck?! So many angry tears.

the mother was also a victim of the father's abuse, not the perpetrator. The mother and sons lives were also horrific, although I'm not sure how it took 13 years to be able to reach out for help.

+Brittany Pena I wouldn't say that's messed up, it's an allegory to something beautiful that was freed from entrapment. She was a beautiful being that could give and was freed from her "lamp"
The name was given to her to keep her real name anonymous for privacy. I think they wanted to give her a name with meaning.

The scientists gave her that name when her case became more public in order to protect her true identity, but I don't know why they chose that name

I heard somewhere in another documentary or something that one of the therapists WAS trying to legally adopt her but she would try to prevent the other therapists from working with her because she wanted to be the "next Anne Sullivan".

People commenting she was made "to be a lab rat" but in actual fact she became largely attached to Kent. Lived with the family and became a stable family member for a long while. Until they stopped making progress and she was unable to continue learning what the government wanted to find. So they stopped funding and the couple couldn't afford to house her and keep upsetting the rest of the household. That's when she was placed into care and was a victim of abuse. Sadly the hypothesis was mostly correct. She could only form a minor attachment and failed to learn sufficiently. The system failed her, the doctors tried to do best by her.
