Instructional Designer - Most people have found my channel because of my substitute teacher video. I've recently made the transition to ID. If you're interested in how I made the transition I'd be happy to make a more in detail video. As always thank you for all of the support!

Love this as a black woman who is an ID
Love it!!!
I would love for you to make an Instructional Design series documenting your journey... I love the vibe of this vlog... I'm making the transition to ID and I look forward to hearing your perspective. #NewSUBBIE :)
Thanks you for watching! (And subbing) but definitely noted! I’ll be making more videos surrounding career etc in the new year!
Great vid, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! 💛
I'm currently thinking of becoming an ID. I would love a more detailed vid on how you got into the field.
Gonna keep this in mind for future videos! But for now the short story is I was a teacher and after having my little one I wanted to move out of the classroom. I’m getting my Master’s currently which has helped with the transition.
@@jozellejade I just had a little one a year ago! I am currently getting my bachelors in ed studies and want to be able to work from home. Instructional design seemed like the perfect fit, What are you getting your masters in ?
Hello @Jozelle,
I'm currently doing a teacher aide /substitute job but I don't want to become a classroom teacher in the future . Is a masters in instructional design and technology better over a masters in org leadership/ master if arts in teaching? I would love to become a corporate trainer or in the learning abd development field of HR.
@jozellejade
So happy I found you. I've been in my current role as an ID for close to 2 years now, I transitioned from graphic design. I work remotely with a very small team, but I love it! I would love to know what you use to help you keep track of projects. I was struggling with prioritizing projects, but I found that using trello has been keeping me on track. I wonder if there's any other tools that can help.
Seriously makes me so happy to hear! I’ve been in teams with PM’s and use Jira. I’d love to connect with you as well sometimes I still feel so new that I’m winging it lol! But like you I LOVE it!
Hey! I just found your content and happy that I did. I am also an Instructional Designer and enjoy connecting with other women in the field. Thanks for the video! I work remotely as well and this is very similar to how my day looks--very peaceful :)
Hi!! Thank you so much for watching! I’m still navigating my way through this ID space so I am always happy to connect as well!
Hi Ladies! I have an ID Master's degree from (gasp) 2004! Had children, married military and never got to use it. My knowledge is still there, but any tips in how I can get back in this field? I'm an ATD member and a Realtor now, but my heart is and I think always will be in Education ❤️📚👩🏾💻
@@GirlfriendGoddess hi! I’d say definitely start putting a portfolio together. Simple how to’s and pick a learning platform or authoring tool and get to know it really really well and lastly LinkedIn follow people in the industry to see what current trends are!
@@jozellejade I can absolutely do that, thanks for the tips! I appreciate you and your time 😊
You're an instructional designer? Wow! That's amazing! You look so peaceful and serene working from home. I know you're loving it!
Speaking of substituting, I wanted to ask your opinion on when I should ask a principal for the nomination? I know there is a teacher shortage so I really wanted to go September 8th but I know the principal will be very busy the first day of school so I was thinking maybe I should wait until the 12th? Also, I wanted to know your suggestion on whether I should try a principal at an elementary or high school as those are the ones I was thinking of working at. My sister knew a sub who thought junior high was the worst!
btw--cute blouse!
Thank you! I just took a peak at the doe website and it looks like the nominations for subs are currently closed.
@@jozellejade They must have changed it very recently because several weeks ago it said online nominations are closed and that we'd have to get a principal to nominate us. I'm surprised they're closed due to the teacher shortage.
I am also interested in ID and transitioning into technology… UX to be exact. My background is in education but have been working on skills in technology. Bootcamps
What industry are you transitioning from? I think you’ve made the biggest step which is starting! My one too would be to ensure you can speak to those skills you have been working on.
@@jozellejade thanks I am a lead teacher. I’m in the google ux course right now in course 4 out of 7…
Could you do a video on how to build a portfolio?
Yep! Noted - been super busy lately but I’ll have new videos surrounding these topics in May.
The ice sound made me cringe lol but good video😊
Lol oh noo! & thank you so much 💛
I am going to school to get a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction. I have teaching experience but with early learners 5 and under. Do you have any advice on getting a job in your field or curriculum development? I don’t have much experience with technology
Sounds like we have a very similar background. I would say target a few companies maybe like Zearn, IXL, etc and even big franchise daycares. Just thinking from the perspective of while I was teaching these are the tools that I used and these companies all need people to develop curriculum.
@@jozellejade Thank you so much for your help
How long have you been an instructional designer? I just landed my first ID job after teaching for years and I can't wait to get started. It's hybrid, but I'm excited to set up my office space. What should I expect the first few weeks of training?? What was your starting salary, did you negotiate, and have you had opportunities for growth in your company? I have so many questions lol
Hey! Thanks for watching and congrats on landing your first ID role. I transitioned out of the classroom in 2021 and started my MA in the field Jan 2022. I’ll post a video answering some of the other questions! 💛💛
Thanks, looking forward to the video!
How did you male the transition from teaching? Did you have to do a course? I'm also looking for ways to leave the classroom.
Hi @JozelleJade! Thank you so much for this video. I am looking for a remote job with a lot of flexibility. Instructional Designer is on a few flexible job lists along with User Experience (UX) Designer, IT Help Desk Agent, Project Manager, etc. However, I noticed some of these have a lot of online meetings throughout the day. As an Instructional Designer do you find you have multiple online meetings every day, usually one meeting a day, or is there perhaps one day of meetings and the rest of the week you're free to just work? Anyone else in the comments who has experience in these fields is welcome to reply also - Thank you!
Hi! Thank you so much for watching. Great question. In my experience it depends on the organization at the time of this video the organization I worked for had a no meeting Wednesday policy which was great but I’d say the other days were still packed with 3 meetings a day. I’ve also worked for another organization where I there are so many meetings every day could by up to 5! However if the company works agile you will have enough time to complete your tasks. Most projects are due a month after receiving the task. Hope this helps! @avamariaonline
i need to get in this field i’m so clueless
@patricebarrett5845 I am happy to answer any question you might have or tips!
Great videos and love your p3rsonality.
You’re so kind, thank you!! 💛
Hello! I am interested in ID. Is there a way I can contact you to ask more questions? Thank you
