  • Here's a chance to take a closer look at some of the buildings of Wrenton, my N gauge model railway. This selection of photos concentrates on the station area and surrounding village. There are some shots of trains, too!

Hi Roger - I cannot express into words how much I love and admire your layout. I always get excited when you have posted an update and I am never disappointed. I thoroughly enjoy listening to your voice as you guide us around the layout with the beautiful tea music in the background, so enjoyable and relaxing. Thankyou so very much.
    Regards Chris

Hello Roger. As per the comments already posted, your layout is so atmospheric, and sums up the feel for a railway in the landscape. As I scratch builder myself, I can only admire the research and skill in producing some wonderful architecture.

Beautiful railway, a complete work of art. I knew the buildings were from Finchingfield even before you said. Just needs a Wiffen's bus doing the rounds...

really lovely layout and I really do enhoy the small stories you telling. I personally would probably let some craftsmen work at one of the houses. Maybe painting it maybe a house gets a new roof.
Maybe there is a small constructuion side on the road where a waterpipe might have burst. Just give the mainroad a tiny bit more visual interest like you did in the gardens.

Thanks. There is a scruffy cottage in need of repair, but new owners are just moving in so no work under way yet! I'll try to include a shot in the next video.

I am considering making a small n-gauge diorama and have just discovered your wonderful work. Well done! I grew up on the Somerset- Dorset border and am thinking that I might try to make something fictional based on that area. Do you have any tips for someone new to railway modelling. I am reasonably experienced in modelling sailing ships and very fussy to detail.
    Many thanks... Phil

Thanks Phil. If you have the time and patience to plough through it I've recorded the Wrenton build on a web site - www.roger-beckwith.co.uk/mr/.
You might find the N Gauge Forum a useful source of tips - www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php. You have to register to see the full site, only a very limited part of it is otherwise visible.
And also possibly join the N Gauge Society - www.ngaugesociety.org. Not expensive and you get a nice little Journal every two months.

They're plasticard. I find a spray with Halford's grey etching primer makes a good base colour and it doesn't seem to scrape off if you scratch the surface.
