I just bought a DX6e and am enjoying it. Thanks for pointing out the flap delay. My only problem is I don't know why they used a power on / off button that you have to hold instead of a standard slide switch.
I had a question on binding with the 120s and the panic button and flight mode button. Once you bond the 120s to the radio you can access monitor and see that the A and D switches are also activated. If your lucky this will directly map to the 120s panic and flight mode switches if not you need to go to the program screens which include the "digital switch setup" that will allow you to change A and D switch to whatever the switch corresponds to the functions you mentioned. Good Luck.
Good Vid, Sir. I had the DX6i, more than once. I now have the "E" and the UMX Carbon Cub SS with flaps. For the life of Me, I can`t get the flaps off the Gear switch "A", and onto a 3 position switch, B or D. I did it once, but it only functioned as a 2 position. Also, I can`t get all the dual rates onto one switch "Dual Rate Combi" as I did with the older DX6I. I miss the simplicity.
Emerald Meadows there are two bnf. qx90 and gb100 both with dsm2. it binds fine . cleanflight shows me the transmitter is working. possibly just an arming issue? I can't figure out how to arm it if that's what it is
Did you check what you have under modes in cleanflight? As well most of these devices will arm with the both sticks down and towards center. But be cautious your sticks must be going in the right direction so check the receiver setup carefully in Cleanflight.
The DX6e doesn't support DSM2. After 1/1/15 the EU regulations outlawed new radios with DSM2 the only protocol Spectrum can use in the EU is DSMX. If you really need DSM2 I guess you could buy a non EU radio which will still have DSM2. FrSky ran into the same problems and they introduced their LBT EU range of firmwares to overcome it. However, I understand that with Spectrum they resolved it with a hardware change.
I have a Blade 200srx that binds to this radio just fine but when trying to fly it I have no yaw and the heli only gets off the ground about a foot. What parameters do I need to change to get my 200srx flying properly? Thanks.
of course this had to come out a week after I bought my dx6... now that i'm thinking about it, what is the difference between the dx6 and dx6e? the menus look the same from what I can see.
That radio is fine for out doors who you kidding man fly my 450 an quads on 6i an planes go far out an high never a problem. Alot of radio for just indoors.
Hi friend, nice video. I have a really big problem I think. Last time when I meet a "instructor" to fly my apprentice plane for the first time, we linked the transmitter using the trainer port, my DXe spektrum did not work at all. I am new with this, but the instructor evidently, seemed he did not what he was doing. My DXe stop working , it went off. I tried to turn ON , it turned on, it beeps few times , then continue beeping constantly. The transmitter is unresponsive, I can not bind back to the plane, it continuously beeping. I tried to use with a simulator and everything works except for I can not control the speed , I can take off but no landing because is at high speed all the time. I read that the throttle might be bad , hope not.I totally lost. I have not contact Horizon yet. The store from where I bought they don't what could be, they say , never seen that before, Please advise

Hi Emerald. Nice review of the Spektrum DX6e. Here we are, 5 years later from your review and I have a chance to purchase this radio with receiver on sale. I am a beginner only starting this wonderful hobby last year. I own two RTF planes that came with the Spektrum DXe and DXs transmitters. I am ready for the next step and wanted to know if the DX6e is still the best option for me. I do not want to spend more for a radio at this time.
I agree voice would have been great. I guess they were concerned that it would effect sales of the dx8 and 12 which have voice. But there are so many other differences that between the models it would not have made a difference.
I still don't fully understand how to select one of the switches on the DX6e to take over the function of the 'Safe Technology' flight modes (beginner, intermediate and advanced) on my blade 120s.
Yeah, not the most user friendly in my opinion. I was using lipo batteries in mine and it drains them when the radio is off. I just switched to NiMH batteries since some forums have suggested those. I had to watch a couple of RUclips videos to set up the safe mode on one of my planes. Good luck.
I contacted Spektrum (Horizon Hobby) and they told me to use switch 'B' on my radio (DX6e). They were very helpful, however the wait times to speak to them are crazy (roughly an hour). You should contact them about your parasitic drain issues (Lipo battery draining). Others have had the same problem and Horizon has repaired or replaced their radios. Give'em a call, it couldn't hurt. For the record, I really like the DX6e, it's a good entry level radio. Happy flying.
4 channels are gone immediately: throttle, elevator, ailerons and rudder that leaves 2. If you have flaps and gear now you have none. If you use flight controllers like I do, they take up two 1 for flight modes and 1 for return to home. so thats 8 not including other toys like lights, cameras etc.
Have you ever had any problems with that radio and how often do you use the radio I know but use my radio three times a week and I've been have a lot of problems with that radio please get back and let me know if you are having problems as well I am curious

I have not owned a transmitter for the past 10+ years. I am jumping into DX6 , skipping DX6e. But I don't know the difference between the two. I think I am not a beginner, but somehow I am starting from scratch.
It's been my experience that you always you always need to know your voltage. As I mentioned in the video I use the Taranis FRSKY for outdoors so I can always know my voltage and other telemetry data. If this is going to be your only radio I would get the Dx6 just in case you need the voice. When you have goggles on and if you don't have OSD your flying with limited data. But for indoors the Dx6e is just fine.
The main thing he missed out is that in the European version only the Dx6e does not support DSM2 communications. Consequently all the old DSM2 recievers you have fitted in your old models will no longer work and will need replacing with DSMx units, which could be very expensive. Why the difference between the American unit and the EU unit perhaps Spektrum could enlighten us. It is also very annoying to do you research, download the manual etc only to find that the manual is written for the American spec only. I was very very annoyed to discover this.
Anthony Simpson The EU changed regulations and it's no longer legal to import any dsm2 capable transmitter after the change date. Spektrum had to make a version without dsm2 for the EU.
I know that now but didn't when I bought the set and Spektrum still ship these units to the EU with American instructions that clearly state the transmitters are DSM2 and DSMX compatible. The included written instructions need editing and the downloadable instructions should be immediately changed. It is currently very misleading and Spektrum need to address this immediately.
Not much of a review for someone trying to decide to buy one or not. And voice is such a stupid gimmick. I'd happily trade it off for better or more features, or lower cost. One of the reasons I'll never get a tyranis. I want radio transmitting reliably, not wasting a bunch of processor power talking to me!

what are the steps to connecting the ds6e to a computer.
None that I know of. You use the SD card to transfer files and upgrade firmware.

probably the throttle potentiometer in the transmitter. [electric device] they just go bad. send to horizon or spectrum.

No voice on the Dx6e and not cabled buddy box.
Will the dx6e bind to a msrx?
Yes it will since it is either DSM2 or DSMx both work with the dx6e

Thanks for the info - just bought a DX6e and having some binding problems - does it work with older DSM2 models? I have conflicting answers??
Binds nicely with DSM2 are you pressing the binding button on the receiver?
Why do you need more than 6 channels for out door flying? I mean for most people.
