***** Web 2.0......I let youngins here him go off om that. Most rappers now dont have a style for a high BPM type song. Also, hiphop is in this Singing-Rap fusion. I hear dudes say, "You hear those bars Fetty wap [or Future] dropped?" I think...those dudes are singing! Lol
This group, as a whole, is something that has never been replicated in Hip-Hop. The instrumentation, cohesiveness, and conscious lyrics have them among my most critically accepted groups in the rap game's history. The stand alone, last Hip-Hop group left, The Roots.
I meant that has impact in the mainstream. There well respected for there stuff on Late night and also critically. I know there is a plethora of underground groups that are dope, but the roots are the only one in the public eye.
He definitely brought a rugged element but nahhh you buggin 😂. BT is a transcendental MC and enough by himself for me to buy any Roots album the second it drops.
My friends and I found Roots in 96 97. We completely fell out over them. We went to a disc jocky to look for more and we found the Do You Want More? album. We completely lost our minds...
I was 16 and high as shit in Summer of 94 first when I heard this-I knew it was some type of shit I never heard before. And not to mention I was a huge hip hop head at the time and from South Jersey. Roots became one of my fav groups
When I was 14 years old and first heard this, it completely blew my mind and I've been fan of the Roots ever since. One of the greatest hip hop crews ever.
'94 was the renaissance, but 88 had "It takes a nation of millions" (greatest hip-hop album ever), "Straight Outta Compton" "Strictly Business" "By Any Means Necessary" "Great Adventures of Slick Rick" "Critical Beatdown" "Long Live the Kane" "Straight Outta the Jungle." All of which were given 5 mics by source. Not including Rob Base, Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, Biz Markie, Eric B. & Rakim, Run-DMC, Heavy D, & so put out great music that year. No year competes!
it's probably between this and Concerto of the Desperado. I say probably cause I'm still binge listening to the Roots right now. Forgot about quite a few tracks smh
This album (Do You Want More?!!!??!) has never been ejected out of my stereo unit since its release back in 1995. #Fact #ForeverTheRoots Rise in Power, MALIK B!
As a old school hip hop head I wish there was a petition to sign to get The Roots inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they are that accomplished. They remind me of bands back in the 70's just a jazzy, funk, hip hop style is the only thing different from back then. There's no such thing as bands nowadays which sums up how the garbage is on the radio today!
So ashamed that I hated this when I first saw the vid in 1994. Repeated listening drew me in to the magic of The Roots. "The Lesson, Part 1" off this album is the definitive track for me!
R.I.P Malik B your legacy will always live on Forever brother it's sad asf that we lost another legend man wtf but The Roots For life🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✊✊✊🎵💯💯💯💯🎵🎧🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
Back in the 90s Malik B was every bit as good as black thought. It’s a shame he never gets the recognition that black thought gets. They’re styles fit really well together. Lyrically, there isn’t many who’s messing with either one of them.

How come nobody ever talks about how dope Malik B is?
Because he chose to get high over his career
This group, as a whole, is something that has never been replicated in Hip-Hop. The instrumentation, cohesiveness, and conscious lyrics have them among my most critically accepted groups in the rap game's history. The stand alone, last Hip-Hop group left, The Roots.

I miss Malik B. I haven't bought a Roots album since he left. I'm sure the music is still dope, but he was an important part of the group IMO.
Ryan Cole L
Ryan Cole Malik was nice but come on bruh.
There is no Roots, without MALIK B!!!! 😱
Yeah they kind of lost that rawness and street hip hop sound the two first albums embodied so well.
He definitely brought a rugged element but nahhh you buggin 😂. BT is a transcendental MC and enough by himself for me to buy any Roots album the second it drops.
I used to rock this cd hard! I won't waste time arguing about what year was the best in rap....we are just blessed to have the roots in our speakers!
Their best album, so much replay value.
Best Musical ERA EVER YO, Damn i wasso lucky to be a teen in the 90s. So much diversity in Hip Hop it was true Artistry back then.
My friends and I found Roots in 96 97. We completely fell out over them. We went to a disc jocky to look for more and we found the Do You Want More? album. We completely lost our minds...
ITS HARD TO ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT RAP MUSIC USED TO BE THIS DAMN GOOD.
Wow.
The Roots are hiphop, funk, jazz, indie, combined to a perfect blend of musical completeness.

Most underrated act in all of hiphop. So far ahead of their time. Been a fan since organix in 93. Roots crew

Came out around same time as Artifacts Wrong Side
I'm glad I can go back in time to these times, takes the pain away and gives me a game to play, PEACE GODS.
I agree, 1993 was in my opinion the best year in hip-hop for the 90's!
1988 and 1994 are the two most important years for hip-hop, look it up. Peace!
1996 as well. Illadelph Halflife, ATLiens, IWW, The Score, etc
Rest In Peace, Malik B. This is my favorite one.
I was 17 then.....I know there are too many great singles out there from this period, but this is in my top 10
As a old school hip hop head I wish there was a petition to sign to get The Roots inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they are that accomplished. I heard this song while in college at Famu in the early 90s. I then became a true fan to the Roots
So ashamed that I hated this when I first saw the vid in 1994. Repeated listening drew me in to the magic of The Roots. "The Lesson, Part 1" off this album is the definitive track for me!

How could anyone EVER not like a Roots song?
This was the Video that put me up on the Roots. I copped Do You Want More??? as soon as it dropped. One of my favorite Groups
This is art.
Back in the 90s Malik B was every bit as good as black thought. It’s a shame he never gets the recognition that black thought gets. They’re styles fit really well together. Lyrically, there isn’t many who’s messing with either one of them.
My shit!! Philly stand up! Malik B damn wish you was still running with the Roots!
amen brother. am from philly and remember seeing them play live right in a downtown philly record store.
Sophomore year 🙏🏼❤️😎soundtrack for another teen growing up in the 90s
I think 93 & 92 were unforgettable years and I'd give 3rd place to 96..still got a lot of albums from that year to this day!
Malik b verse slaps hard🔥
Man I used to bang this as a kid. Scott Storch on the keys lighting it up!
[Verse 1: Black Thought]
Yo, I'm every MC, it's all in me
That's the way it is, the way it gotta be
Indeed as I distort, I proceed, indeed
Gettin' hotter than sacks of boom in my room at the Ramada
For tanks in your memory banks to fill up
I provide the static a scratch to match, while you catch the vibe
Most can play high-post, but yo, that don't mean shit
Because my clique will make a motherfucker sick
I flips, redder than pork, comin' to New York to mix
(It's Bob Power) With the snares and kicks to fix
Rhythmically, you got-ta be, static-y
Magically, I appear, spark a L and drink a beer
With Air Smooth, takin' niggas loot with dice
Then shoot, The Roots, poetic, courageously kinetic
Vagabonds, versatile and various
Trust rap styles of mine are blunt, pain is in the mind
So I'm fine and five-foot seven, inches in height
My mission to strike mics, enlightenin' tykes
Frightenin' like lightnin'
Fluorescent, incandescent, effervescently
I represent, Foreign Objects and Ill Elements
Very relevant, plus intelligently managin' matter
That's makin' tracks fatter
Revolve around Saturn like rings
And brings swings, when I stings with bass
Then distort up in your face like mace
Bustin' your dreams like gats with loaded magazines
I'm on the rap scene, repellin' fellas like a vaccine
As I, rocks from under, blunderin' I'm not
Lyrically, ya get shot, get caught, so distort with Thought, for real
It's the illest out the Phi, short for Philidelph-iada-fly
Money makin', move fakin', I isn't
Niggas cannot front, I'm poetically exquisite
Wicked, with the visit while you're wonderin', what is it?
Dig it, yo, my mellow, um, what up for the night?
Malik B., get on the mic, get on the mic like that, y'all
And yo, I'm flowin', my part of the song
It's goin', it's goin', it's gone
[Verse 2: Malik B]
Now, go get your dictionary and your Pictionary
'Cause much affliction with my diction friction slips and carries
Words and herds like some cattle in the steeple
People, there's no equal, or no sequel
So policies of equalities get abolished
Demolished, distortion of the static's gettin' polished
Urges of splurgin' words will just be merged together
Damn, it's quite clever, however
You never can sound alike, lyrics don't be poundin' like
These, troops, who be's, Roots
Insult ya, mellow by culture, rhythmatic vulture
Approach ya with Magnetic shit that's Ultra
I make MC's dangle like a bangle, strangle from every angle
My lingo jingles and it jangles under Kangols
Nahhh, them niggas don't wanna tangle
'Cause Roots get loose, negros get juiced like the mango
To be particular, extra-curricular, for pleasure
Measure, in any weather, value more than the treasure
Baby, you're sayin' maybe, then comin' to flex
Now you wonder what's next
