    WOW, I knew it was going to be a good Zero, I didn't know it was going to that good. I'm glad you got your hands on one, it's one of the best kits I've ever built. The only real complaint I have about the Airfix, after building Tamiya, is that Airfix's canopy is a bit short. I only really notice because all my Zero's sit together on the shelf lol. Excellent work as always :D

      Well I now have them all in a line as well and it really shows that old tool refurbish thing I did for what it is! Can't wait to try a Hasegawa version and I may look out for their combo packs because I think there's one with a Raiden in it!

    I've never put a Tamiya kit together. Might be something to do one day. I'm working on the beastly 1/48 scale Monogram B17D at the moment. That looks fantastic, by the way. Keep up the great work.

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  10 лет назад

      Wow, a 1/48 B17 must be quite a beast. I have the Revell (Monogram) Marauder and it's a fair size. It's just the thought of rescribing all those raised panel lines that putting me off. The interior detail is excellent, though.

    • @HydroTWD
      @HydroTWD 10 лет назад

      MakingModelsAgain I managed to tract down a resin interior set, so I don't have to worry much about that. The detail on the aftermarket set is very, very nice. I'll be working on the exterior until i'm covered in moss.

    Lovely dog the one you have :3 Apparently, not much fond of model kits, but nice guy after all X)
    Anyway, on with the kit itself.
    I also like Tamiya kits for their accuracy and precision, which is not little, but they´re usually too expensive for the limits that I set to myself when it comes to buying kits; and currently, since my priority is bringing back to life those old kits that I can save, I buy practically NO new kit (I have enough so far in their boxes, waiting for their chance... if it ever comes)
    Some might say that the price of Tamiya kits is worth it, but often I have the feeling that they go a bit far with it... Furthermore, seeing the new Airfix and the Tamiya kits together in your video, I saw practically no difference in accuracy and detail between them (at least from outside, canopy apart)
    I have the new Airfix kit too (to build), and for the degree of accuracy of the kit, I find that the price made it a bargain, while roughly the same degree of accuracy to the Tamiya kit but a price not less than three times more expensive, to me that´s a clear theft.
    Even a Hasegawa kit on the same kit and scale must be cheaper than the Tamiya kit. And Hasegawa is a superb brand too, isn´t it? Conclusion: Tamiya abuses from the prices to their kits.
    This might sound a bit ironical, but unless you (referring to costumers in general) are so demanding about the quality of the kits (I am not- I have it enough while the pieces fit well together, and the decals work as they must) Tamiya kits are like a "richness" which price limits the amount of kits that you can buy a year. Yes, they are superb kits, but a bit more expensive than they should, to my taste.
    So, it might sound as if I looked too much for saving money with kits, and there must be something true about it, but what I mean in general is that Tamiya kits are too expensive; more than they should.
    Also, and back to Tamiya, the only Tamiya-made tool that I like are the masking tapes, while so far I haven´t learned yet to use properly other Tamiya materials like the paints.
    Well, just personal obsessions of mine...

  • @kc7wzl
    @kc7wzl 10 лет назад

    for me where I live both kits are about the same price.. I have seen good and bad kits from both makers... but on this kit I agree the tamiya is better.
    very nice build keep up the great videos...
    got to love our 4 legged friends.. I have 4 at my house ( 2 cats and 2 small dogs )
    I have a great love / hate relation ship with decals.. 99% I don't even use them.. of course I don't build my stuff for museum accurate I build for fun and therapy.

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  10 лет назад

      So does that mean the Tamiya kit is cheap or is the Airfix kit expensive...? ;)
      A house is not a house unless it has quadrupeds in it!

    • @kc7wzl
      @kc7wzl 10 лет назад

      Well kinda both.. Tamiya is more than the domestic Revell and about the same as price range as Round2 ( I mainly build car / truck kits ) but Airfix is on the spendy side like Italeri.
      but there is times when every thing is on the weird. I have bought nice tamiya cheaper than revell and same with Airfix..
      but on average UK kits are more money as well as japan kits.. I think manly for me the shipping and import taxes and etc. is what keeps on domestic kits high in price for me..
      others may experience a difference in prices than me ( I live a a small population area )

    Most Tamiya kits are a joy to make the engineering is always spot-on, but you can't beat Airfix on pocket money priced kits that with a little extra work can stand next to the best of them.. great builds on both of tham, but I expect no less from yourself Garry.. always rase a glass or two of single malt to Rabbie Burns on the 25th, but not had Haggis for many years.. be lucky and take care pal.. Pete...

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  10 лет назад

      Thanks, Pete. I would certainly recommend the Tamiya kit for anyone looking for that little bit of light relief after a challenging kit, be it of the short-run variety or super detailed, as this kit presented no problems in any regard and was thus a joy in that respect.
      PS: I did raise a glass (or two) afterwards! ;)

    Hey, im just wondering im kinda new to the hobby [left it when i was 9 and came back to it now when im 15] Because i don't have masses amounts of money to Through around on really expensive kits but making these airfix kits dose get quit boring with there lack of detail, so do you have any recommendations to any model making company?

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  10 лет назад

      Well, the new-tool Airfix kits are outstanding value for the money. The Zero and I believe the P-40 are all around the £6 mark and they have great detail. Academy and Hobby Boss kits are also usually a good price so maybe check them out too!

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  8 лет назад

      It'll depend on which version you want to build, but they should all be listed in the kit's instructions and being a Tamiya kit, they are all Tamiya codes. :)

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  8 лет назад

      Most hobby shops will keep Tamiya paints, even Hobbycraft, but they are acrylic paints and are best used with an airbrush.

    • @MakingModelsAgain
      @MakingModelsAgain  8 лет назад

      If you prefer to use enamels and so brush paint, you can get an app (one for android, one for iPhone) that allows you to see what paints are the colour equivalents to, in this case, Tamiya.
