Wasn't this supposed to open 5 years ago, like the district we were actually promised? If hotel capacity is such an issue, how did Detroit host the all star game, super bowl and final four with far fewer hotel space available 15ish years ago?
Final fours 15 years ago, it is worth noting, had less attendees than those today do. They would set up a basketball seating bowl using half of the stadium back then. Now they use the entirety of the stadium, filling the entire field with seating.
@tylerkochman1007 the men's final four in Detroit placed the court in the middle of Ford Field and used all the stadium, rather than placing it on one side. The frozen four the following year in 2010 used the setup you describe.
Or expand some of the existing ones. The Fort Pontchartrain Hotel (right next to Huntington Center) has a plaza next to it that would be the perfect site for a second tower of rooms.
Yes, Detroit need more hotels. And built them bigger. Grand Hyatt, Hyatt, The Hilton, Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott Fairfield & Suites, Residence Inn by Marriott, Marriott Marquis, JW Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, TownPlace Suites by Marriott, Springhill Suites by Marriott, Four Seasons, Hard Rock hotel, Moxy hotel, Aloft hotel Hampton Inn & Suites, Omni hotel, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge suites, Cambria hotel, Hotel Indigo, Margaritaville Hotel, Holston House hotel, Virgin hotel, Loews hotel, Kimpton hotel, Conrad hotel, all the Hiltons and etc. Also, stop building boutique hotels. I’m just naming all the hotels where I live. Detroit needs those hotels to get the demand that it deserve. Detroit also needs to market itself more, to have more businesses coming in.
But Detroit can’t demand that a big name hotel opens up downtown. Those hotel brands have to decide to do it themselves. Detroit does not have a meeting and decide…hey, let’s open up a Loews Hotel downtown. Those brands that you named are good n all but they have to decide to come to downtown Detroit themselves my friend
@@Mark-oy1wv I was just giving my opinion. I know Detroit doesn’t have that demand at the moment. But after hearing all the events coming there why not have those big name hotels. And I know it’s the brand names to decide to built there. I’m pretty sure they will be there soon.
@@cortezmiller1899 From the hotels that you mentioned, Detroit does have a Marriott, Aloft, Wyndham(Pontchartrain), Hilton and Cambria hotel(just built) in downtown. They also have a nice Westin hotel and MGM Grand hotel. They also have some very nice high end hotels in the suburbs. Yes you are right, more big names are needed and now that the city has come back to life I’m sure they’ll be coming, but the cupboard isn’t as bare as you make it out to be

You sound like you're a cranky senior. How does private spending on hotel development affect senior care, and what does the President have to do with any of this?
Detroit has been empty and decrepit for decades. Its hard to not feel good about the progress. It has nothing to do with skin color, everybody can enjoy the same thing.

They were all flops.
@David Kruse you mean the super bowl and final four were flops? Based on what?

Maybe if they built bigger hotels this would help the problem
Right

@tylerkochman1007 they tried to do that about 6 years ago but city council turned it down

Most other cities with plenty hotel rooms downtown is definitely an challenge.
