You are a life saver my friend. Was struggling pretty bad and then your video showed up! Thankyou for taking the time to show us the way, god bless you!
Thanks for the video. I'm a. Mechanic for over 23 years and this has to be one of the hardest door handles to install if you never done it. I tried in a fusion what sucks about those cars is to get your hand into the door you have to remove the window regulator. Unless you have skinny arms and long fingers. Thank you again
Thanks a ton my guy I literally went through a rabbit hole to refind this video like and subscribe it's amazing how I followed the same videos that led me to break and had to reorder one
Bro u are indeed God-sent .i wrapped my car and the passenger side handle went back in less than 40 seconds but the driver’s side handle was a pain.took it to the dealership and they said its gon cost $516 cuz they have to tear the door apart bla bla bla.i looked up ur video and followed the directions and violà!i got it in.after driving the the door handle sticking out for 4 days ur trick worked.thanks so much.I subscribed!
I guess it goes in and out easily as long as the screw isn't out all the way. As long as it's within the 2 tracks, it should keep the inside hook in place, ready for the handle to snap back as you tighten the screw. I have a fusion with 4 doors and only had this issue with 1 door and it was when I ruined the screw and had to take it completely off, which let the metal hook snap away causing us all this lengthy headache of trying to put it back in. Thanks for this video. You're a hero
Thanks a million!! My door kicked my butt, but your video helped a bunch. I modified your process by inserting a thin flat tip screwdriver in the rounded slot on the springloaded mechanism on the backside of the door to hold the latch assembly in place and used a thin feeler gauge to slide the handle over the tip of the part of the mechanism visible from the outside of the door.
I just wanna say thank you for this very informative video. This helped me out tremendously. I was stumped and couldn't figure it out and after watching your video it gave me a better understanding of how it works. I replaced the door latch to my 2015 ford fusion and it wasn't that easy. Once again Thank you!
Having the same issue on driver and passenger door now I'm hesitant to even want to take off door handles when wrapping a car but I will try this method thank you for the video👍🏿
I work on fords for work.it wont always go right first time or every time but this is what you should do,when you need to remove a handle on the later fords hold the handlein the most outer position as possible, then holding it there slacken the tork screw off un till the hold lock plate keeps the handle in the out position .the handle will come out,the lock plate is in the right place to refit it when ready as long as you don't touch the screw again.when you refit you tighten the screw and the plate will release the handle and it will pop back to the door panel again.if you don't get it first time remove the inner mech and reset in your hand, you can see it moving and put it back in to the car.you will have the inner panel any way to retrieve the wire that drops in to door because ford didn't think off that when they made them.
Man, you’re the best, thanks! It was 2017 ford edge tho, but the same handle design style, ford’s instructions didn’t work for me as well, yours did! Thanks again!
@@surfhippie There is a small hole accessible from the inside of the door you can fish a screwdriver in through there to hold the metal tab open rather than using a finger like he did because there is no finger access.
Can someone tell me what to hold inside the circle area? There’s nothing for me to grab that will hold the latch in place. Do I have to loosen it or tighten the screw?
I just took whole mechanism out to study it. What is simplest way is to take door panel off take speaker out and roll window down. Push on two clips that holds glass. And the easy access to handle. Take a long screwdriver and push the two forks on handle. Screw on side just tightens it up.
Idk how you did it but it doesn’t work, when I stick the screwdriver into the latch to hold the teeth’s, I try to push down the small tab on the other hole and everytime it doesn’t go down & hold the latch
Yes, I have realized that using thread, zip tie, or sometimes 550 cord will work without having to go from the inside on some cars that have the same issue.
I am copying and pasting a comment from below because this is important to know about these handles! I appreciate the initial video but that is not how to get this done properly. "I work on fords for work.it wont always go right first time or every time but this is what you should do, when you need to remove a handle on the later fords hold the handle in the most outer position as possible, then holding it there slacken the torx screw off un till the hold lock plate keeps the handle in the out position .the handle will come out, the lock plate is in the right place to refit it when ready as long as you don't touch the screw again. When you refit you tighten the screw and the plate will release the handle and it will pop back to the door panel again." I also found out that if you screw the catch mechanism up by unscrewing it too far then it can be reset by holding the handle catch out with a pick and screwing in on the torx screw until the catch mechanism stays in the outer position properly which then allows you to put the back handle block in and the door handle partially in and start screwing the torx the rest of the way in. At some point the door catch will pop in, catching the handle properly and engage it. I was so frustrated until I red the comment below and figured this out.
This does not seem to work on 2019 and later cars due to a redesign of the door handle reinforcement. I ended up removing the entire door handle/lock assembly and found a plastic "finger" that limits the return travel of the door handle catch, so that the door handle can not be put back no matter what you do. Once the door handle/lock is on the bench, it is easy to reset the catch behind the "finger" so that it is held wide open. If it releases again, you have to take the whole assembly off again, as the "finger" is between the door skin and the door handle reinforcement when it is all installed. Thanks.
*this did not work for me but* what worked is that I turned the screw all the way in. Then pulled the metal piece all the way out and then the undo the bolt again. The metal piece stayed in that position by itself. To be honest with you I have been doing the same crap for the last hour and only worked now... i tried the same thing before and didnt work. I did not have to hold anything In the other hole.
I've been trying to get my door handle back in 2015 mustang after wrapping the door. When I get the screw driver to hold the latch the place where you hold with your finger. I dont see a place that holds the latch. The two plastic pieces that decompress when you loosen the bolt seems to move the opposite direction when the latch has tension. Everytime I try the latch flips back and I cant hold it in place. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
Adam Vega the main thing is pushing the latch Mechanism that moves in and out with the handle all the way forward . When pushed all the way forward it will hold its self there . Now instal the handle while turning the screw back in and it will suck it right back into place They deff suck to do

Dude you don't need to push the holder with your finger. just turn that T27 screw all the way to the left and it will hold the aluminum tong in the open position and you can push the handle in it's place.

This solution definitely help me put the handle back, however he missed the part about tightening or loosening the adjustment screw on the side of the door. For the drivers side, I had to completely take out the screw in order for the handle to get sucked in by the metal piece. And for the passenger side, I had to tighten a little for it to work, it took me several tries, but I was able to put it back together. Last time this happened, the dealer told me that part of the handle “broke” and I had to pay over $400 to get it “replaced”. What a bunch of scumbags they are.
I suppose the difficulty varies by vehicle. I didn't have to remove the screw. I loosened it the way Ford says to, so the video is assuming everyone got to that point without difficulty.
