I appreciate the calmness in your training approach. I have seen some instructors that are always trying to project a badass persona. I don't learn well that way and am actually put off by it. Be safe and well.

Went to Gunsite in 1990. Training was good. All the trash talk about 9mm's, Glocks, and double action pistols got old as I had a Beretta 92 at the time. Still a fun course, a wide variety of people in the class.

Some people are terrified at the thought of having a gun ( firearm) in their home? Like driver training, it's important to have a qualified instructor. Firearms demand your respect. Always treat it like it's loaded even if you know it is not. Never point it at anything you don't mean to shoot at. We hear all kinds of horror stories. There is a reason why someone got shot by accident. CARELESSNESS. When you have a firearm in your hands it demands your 110% attention. Don't be afraid of it & know what it can & can't do. When used for protection in your home a firearm is the difference if you live or die.

1 example: The reload. You are accomplishing nothing tanglible by waiting to hit the mag release but a slow reload. If the gun is at slide lock, the mag should be out at fast as possible. The magazine should go into the mag well without any delay. It costs nothing to teach someone to simply guide the magazine into the well the first time.

have you been to a gunsite course? theres other stuff they teach besides what he said here. what he was showing basics. for the entry level shooter. what hes teaching here gets piggybacked onto later on for low light or complete darkness. that's why he said to feel with your finger as well. this isn't all they teach. ereryone of their instructors have been in the real shit one way or another. of my instructors one was a former recon marine and the other was lapd swat. they know their stuff. well enough infact that the marine corps adopted what they teach for their marksmanship program and continue to teach it to this day. but hey, what does the marine corps know right?

Training, muscle memory, etc. are useful, but there is no perfect among humans. Thinking you have trained to the point where you can't make a mistake makes you more likely to make one. Anyone who proselytizes that we can train to the point where we are no longer capable of making a mistake is deluded. If he teaches this he's deluding others.

+perplexe91 It is a raven. There are hundreds at the Gunsite Ranch/Academy.
From downrange, on the logo's origin:
The raven is our symbol, or totem if you will, here at Gunsite.
We see them all over the ranch and sometimes at dusk you can see
hundreds of them roosting in the trees as you drive down one of the
ranch roads, an incredible sight. The origin of the raven as our symbol
goes back to Jeff and Janelle Cooper when they founded Gunsite some 34
years ago and were looking for a symbol for the school. The fact that
there are ravens flying about the property is an obvious connection, but
there is more to it than that. One side of Janelle’s family came from
Scandinavia and in Norse mythology Odin held forth as the god of
Valhalla. Odin was accompanied by his two ravens, Hugin and Munin, and
they are usually depicted perched on his shoulders or on the arms of his
throne. The ravens represented knowledge and wisdom and Odin would
send them to Earth to bring back news, but more importantly, they were
seen as the conduits for dispensing the knowledge and wisdom of the gods
to mankind. So for us, the raven is a fitting symbol for our efforts
to spread “the word”, as Jeff liked to put it.
No WWII Germany expert here, but it looks like any old low crown ballcap to me. I think your racist imagination is running wild on you.
