Rimworld defeating massive infestation

- This video should be self explanatory but in case someone has any questions here is short guide:
1. Pick 3 or 4 most capable melee colonists.
2. Look for the one with either tough trait or highest melee dodge chance and dress him up in the best armor and clothing you have. You want sharp damage protection. The guy in the middle will have the most damage coming his way so be ready for that.
3. Use weapons with the best short to mid range accuracy on pawns behind. You don't want to use high burst and low accuracy weapons like miniguns because they may destroy walls in front of you and that wouldn't be good.
4. If you are not scared of addictions you can let your main warrior drink go-juice before the fight as it helps with a lot of things.
5. Very important! Remember to close, forbid or seal all other ways to infestation. If there are any vents between you and infestation, put wall in front of them because they will be destroyed and you will be surrounded by bugs.
The best melee weapons to use are either plasteel swords or uranium maces. You may also be tempted by frag grenades but don't use them, one miss and grenade will land between your pawns, damaging everyone.
Good luck Игры
-I've won, but what did it cost?
-Right index finger and right pinky.
Damn, not worth it
Advanced bionic arm/hand: allow me to introduce myself
@@inoshiki2909 only -8% manipulation it sucks but it is not worth a bionique that's why index's are the worst
@@Z1VA lost a finger or 2? dont worry HERES AN ENTIRE ARM!
@@KiotheCloud Honestly, in a world where bionic arms are relatively cheap and easy to attach, it probably is better all around just to replace the whole arm or hand instead of a few fingers
you have basically solved the food problem for decades
“We’ve got food at home.”
Food at home: two tonnes of bug purée
Everything is fine until a solar flare occurs and everything rots.
@@cheezcarrot9633 It won’t happen inside the mountains.
@@remainprofane7732 you can use it to feed the pigs
Bug food is absolutely disgusting
The guys with guns like “If my shot misses the front enemy, it’ll probably hit one of the two dozen enemies behind it.”
Some groups have a bullet with your name on it. Their bullets are marked "to whom it may concern"
Gotta love that one guy that was away from the colony
"Hey guys, I'm ba-what the heck happened?"
"oh just the 3rd infestation this week, nothin' to worry 'bout"
XD
"3rd Infesta- The fuck happened when I was gone?"

You haven’t lived until you’ve killed a max point infestation with flamethrowers. Best time of my life.
For me and offensive hear killbox works just fine. All you need is a few days of digging a Molotov and a few grenades and a very good builder
flamers and bolters for best effect lol (40k mod)
it probably would smell like a sewer though seeing as flies charred with a low-voltage electric swatter smell like garbage
@@Phlorochyll you have got the fabreeze mod then lol
No fire in sight, just colonists living in the moment.
I like how it said "tame" when you hughlighted the megaspiders.Because yes, taming a brain-dead injured and incredibly violent arthropod while you're shooting at it is the greatest idea!
no, but you CAN do it. Should you? Probably.
@@LibbyGrimm agreed, love them as attack dogs and haulers
U should make chemfuel with their unlimited meat
I have never thought of that
That is so smart. Definitely doing that.
Chemfuel with an ied at the front door and they all light themselves on fire. Better yet if you've got Prometheum and chemfuel together. The Prometheum burns forever and the chemfuel goes BOOM for area attack.
very neat, melee is so underrated
its underrated when early game but when u get those bionic or archotech arms, legs etc... its really really op especially when u combine it with the CONN and EPOE mod and the Close Combat Power Armor from Rimsenal having a colonist fully decked out on bionic limbs and different types of bionics and a decent melee skill u are looking at a guy that can take on about 20-30 insects without breaking a sweat
Bruh, My Club club meeting was basically club the enemy
@@statesofcalamity5152 Not trying to hate but I never understand comments like this and you see them so often on Rimworld videos. ‘This thing is super OP if you mod the shit out of it to make it OP’ well of course right
@@tomd9819 well non taken its just mod seems to bring the best of some aspects and thats why people keeps commenting it anyways but we all have different style in playing through rimworld thats why its great we all have our own way of playing and just wanted to share my experience on my playthrough and others probably does the same
@@statesofcalamity5152 Yeah I respect that man, the modding scene looks great as well. Been meaning to try it more
Well, I gotta say: I’ve enjoyed living on this planet, but... there are others.
exactly, delicious friend
How to deal with infestations:
1: wood floors
2: shelf with molotovs placed around various places in the base
Yeah, this is actually better if you have the manpower and armor/weapons to pull it off. It's much faster and there's no need to wait for shit to cool down after. And even if you triple-wall it, if there's enough bugs, they'll dig out eventually. They won't dig out from this.
@@rauminen4167 True using fire for infestations just isn't good. And with fences being in the game you can haul all the recourses to the wooden fence and than cancel construction. Now you have 1 wood laying all around the floor, this is super efficient compared to crappy wooden floors. 1 wood burns as long as a full stack of wood.
Good Walls around IT
2:10 first casualty was your infantrymens right middle finger lol
Probably lost it flipping them off
i love how every single shot hits *something*
Could have just thrown 1 Molotov in there and let them roast. My favorite solution to bug problems.
brick up the door first, otherwise they'd dig in and have a hay day in the colony
Well u will burn probally approx 12k worth of gold lol
@@kiro253 those are centipedes not rly worth much at the late game but still it's better than losing your whole colony
@@derfine6513 not the centipede =_= i am talking about the insect meat and jelly(even the skin if u have the mod)
@@kiro253 oh well I'll be honest I don't really think so it's worth it just stick to yayo and stuff
The only thing you can do better is have 1 or 2 guys with grenades, preferably with the fast shooting perk. It will stun and do area damage to the bugs near the doorway.
Grenades? Indoors? Yikes
@@Yfrith there are some cool videos on grenade mechanics that might change your mind about throwing them pineapples in your home.
Yes (might look for Francis John's videos on that) GG WP, still :-)
Makes me think, a 3 tiles wide space (corridor) might not be enough for such large scale bugs, manhunters or melee foes in general. Having a 5 tiles wide space would allow for 6 shooters to have LoS -- and therefore shoot -- only at the "frens" directly agressing their melee comrades. Let's just hope I'll remember that.
Nobody mentioned using animal blockers rather than melee pawns (no colonist injuries). Just make zone behind doorway and set larger animals to go there.
While grenades will make the massacre way more smooth, the only problem with that is that the grenades will destroy corpses and anything else within the blast radius
A good tip is to get the guy behind the middle blocker to throw frags in there, they do so much splash damage
When Colin walked up, turned around, and walked away, I felt that.
"Hey, what's all the noise going on down he....fuck that."
*turns and walks off*
in my modded game 90% of my colonist would've died by friendly fire XD
same
Let them hug each other.
Pawns are unable to hit the 4 tiles around them by accident meaning if you shoot from at max 4 tiles behind your melee guy he won't receive a sudden and unwelcome dose of lead in the back.
Misses only happen to tiles 5 tiles away.
With shield belts it can be stretched to 5 tiles as the front pawns do not care.
I’ve had modded guns that quite simply hit everything between the shooter and the impact zone. Walls don’t even stop it. Lost many a limb to that gun
Mine would win sort of then die of heat stroke pro tip don’t use plasma beam rifles inside
@@Vampboy37 vanilla expanded coil guns right?
The size of these infestations seems unreasonable tbh.
if the cave was sealed from the outside you could've installed a cooler and froze them all to death, or to the point where most of them are in hibernation
Depending on the biome you just need to wait for winter, that is exactly why I enjoy playing in a cold climate
He could've also built a chamber with chemfuel and wood stools and superheated the room
@@moomoo1984 And lose all of that jelly? If you have the gear to do recover it, then this is an amazingly profitable event.
@@MurdersMachine i agree with you, but a large invasion like this wouldn't be viable to attack conventionally in early or mid game, and it's better worth your time and risk to superheat it in late game anyways. i'm not saying it's not fun or profitable to fight the bugs conventionally
Bugs don't die from hyperthermia in this game. I play on a mountainous ice sheet they only get slowed down
Me: Thats a lot of bugs
My vampire blood mage werewolf archotech cyborg sith lord: what bugs?
the Royalty dlc gives you armor with grenades and firebomb add ons. They are perfect for these times
You are so lucky they spawned there instead of scattered around inside your base (which is what happened to me) T_T.
@defektev just freeze ur base, the mood debuff outweighs the effects of a potential infestation
nice to see someone defeat infestation with actual battle these days.
Player: Brutally slaughtering thousands of savage insects

Yesterday a max infestation hit me and spilled out of the infestation-bait cave... into the mortar field besides the mountain. At the same time a visiting guest inexplicably armed with a single-shot rocket launcher was hanging around. As I mobilized my pawns aginst the bugs the guest shot into the them, exploding a dozen explosives and a few insanity shells. It was the most spectacular ending I've ever had.
tht's a lot of insect meat......you're gonna have a lot of kibble for the next 200 years. also i like how the melee guys are slowly and surely losing fingers as they reduce the number in that horde. they are freaking cyborgs for the most part.
bro you defence was amazing, so much pew pew, BUT you really really need a grenadier there haha!
This gun is has an engraving of vaan smiling triumphantly as he stands between his allies and his enemies. This is a depiction of when vaan held off the horde
10/10
I just realized the absolute mound of corpses in your storage lmao
Vaan's fingers: Understandable, have a good day
I hope you already planned on that room being a deep freezer
Wow that was impressive. I would have just went with the furnace kill for one that bad.
Vaan is a beast
Very impressive. One grenadier would speed up the process. the grenades tend to only miss by one tile when they do, so if you force throw in the right place they will never hit your pawns
yeah if you use 2 grenadiers it would be ideal. place them directly behind the melee pawn that's directly in front of the door. the grenades can clip walls if thrown more than 4 tiles away so dont use more than 2.
@@magerehenk7579 This since became one of my favourite strats (with 2 grenadiers 😀)
you know what you need? fire. lots of fire.
Congratulation! You did it!
Well boys, it looks like insect jelly is on the menu... for a few months
Imagine one of them having a mental breakdown in the middle of that because of having to eat with no table from 5 hours earlier
better than my strategy of throwing one molotov cocktail
*Chef:* Guess what we'll be having for dinner tonight...
I’m here to preach about using grenades to deal with infestations, you can take advantage of forced miss radius so the walls are never accidentally hit, idk about Molotovs, would probably need to be outdoors
if you create a fire room, connected with the infestation, one with as much fire in as possible. you can cook them pretty fast. Beware it will very likely destroy anything organic inside aswell.
I had a relatively large infestation in my rec room once, the floor was carpet, an aerofleet wandered in, and they all burned along with a megascreen tv and several sculptures.
The most incredible thing here is that none of the colonists shot and downed each other
There's a certain distance where colonists will not accidentally hit each other but I don't remember how far it is.
LMAO Rae out there just fixing the bedroom walls!
well...you solved both world hunger and energy crisis
You better give vaan an archotech right arm for their troubles
I love use heat or cold to kill the bugs.
I once opened a Cave in the mountain after 4 ingame years. I found it - but the hive was dead and the insects ate themselves - and died to a heat stroke xD
*menace appears*
*calm music intensifies*
That's almost like a Starship Troopers battle
That's...
That's a LOT of chemfuel and kibble.
The best brawler i ever seen, almost all brawler in my colonist fell even they use same body armor at infestation like that
how did they not shoot each other
@Chepe Chepe you're right
@Chepe Chepe if they are close there is no friendly fire even without a mod. At least that's what it said in the tutorial
@@antmydude236 if they are standing right next to eachother (1tile apart) there should be 0% chance of friendly fire, regardless of shooting skill.
i assume as you go to two, then three tiles, etc- the % chance gets higher and higher. if they have high shooting skill the chance will probably still be very low.
if they have good armour, there is a chance the bullet will hit, but not deal damage. if you want to know for sure, im sure you could test it by save scuming.
@@PeskyNgon FRIENDLY FIRE ONLY HAPPENS PAST # SPACES
@Chepe Chepe No your not right
And now you will never plant corn again.
...isn't it easier to just use a heat trap and cook them when they go to sleep? like patching up the holes in the walls and creating a new room adding lots of chairs or whatever and set them on fire while they are walled inside, the extreme heat burning them, although i guess your way you get way more meat.
Well, as wise ones' say: "If it's alive - let it burn."
I usually drop the Molotov and let them burn with the whole room, cuz I don't want to risk my clolonists dying cuz i play with permadeath
Can I ask what mods you were using? It doesn’t look like anything crazy I was just wondering if it affected this encounter in any way.
This seemed pretty vanilla to me. No special effects, weapons, moods, armour or anything. In fact, seemed like pre-1.2.
dude I hope a year later you found out about the existence of granades hehe :D
he recommends against grenades in the description, so he was aware
@@Scotch20 Grenades are the best, to handle a huge infestation like that. You have to make sure two things though: One - Give the grenades only to high skilled ranged pawns. Two - Attack a tile, not an insect, 3 squares away from wall/door. Like that it will rip through the insects behind the enemy line, without hitting pawns or walls. Needs some practice though.
Grenades aren't checking for pawn range skill tho? it's the same chance to hit/miss by 1 tile. i give grenades to pawns who can't shoot or fight but still capable of violence, works just fine every time
@@plumbum9688 Yeah. You are right. Grenades use no skills at all, just like the mortar. My bad.
If you don't want to use grenades you can equip you ranged guys with miniguns and target fire the ground, insects will keep coming and they will not stop shooting because of the target is dead or out of range, ez kills.
Nice crematorium, good person.
The entire plot of starship troopers:
Beautiful
with corpse stench this becomes a nightmare
a few grenades would have been awesome as a second line, on disabled fire at will of course
Yo, did the swarm just overwhelm a few dozens of centipedes?
Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!
Ive always hated the cricket noises of the insectoid
Satisfying af, I love decimating large raids
very small tip: use blunt weapons instead of sharp weapons for your melees in the front, the bugs have a super high armor class against sharp weapons but blunt weapons carve right through them. the same goes for mechanoids
I thought it would've been the opposite due to their chitin armour, hard to bash and such.
@@GregLemons i think it's the same logic that it's much easier to smash a bug than it is to try and cut it with a knife
@@mataschmatayah but thats cos the bug is small
That’s why kids you don’t build into mountains
Those dead mechs just chillin😅😂
how do keep them without negative mood debufs?
Grenades are specially effective as long as you don't mind destroying everything in the battlefield
Its funny that one Child with molotov can slaughter the whole insect progress that been made thro past decades
Love how the unarmored guys kept trying to walk in. Not the time buddy
Thank goodness ammo isn't a consideration in Rimworld.
Kibble for decades
hold the line brothers! the xenos shall fall to the might of the imperium! oh um wrong game
It’s kibble making time!
Nice medium sized infestation.
Brooo would have molotoved that room so bad lol
No way I could handle this many without walls being shot out. I have 3-4 tiles of wall because I expect that to happen.
imagine if this was in 3d. I imagine it would be like doom
Am i the only one hearing Zerg noises from this video?
This needs Stationary Miniguns, would be so satisfying :P
I said Holy Shit so many times watching this! Incredible
I think this job might be bigger than Orkin.
This is the reason, why i hate mountens bioms in Rimworld.

Looking at this after ideology makes me wanna make those +15 fine meals
Hot Gates. ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ.
before playing constantly on 500x I used to think this was big... 2000 hours later I can handle this with a few pawns and grenades
That's a lot of kibble.
"good news guys! Insect meat nutrient paste for the rest of our days!"
Vaan is the real OG
Grenades help a lot with this, you lose some meat but tbh I doubt you'll be able to process all that before it starts to spoil anyway.
Also animal blockers so no colonists are harmed.
:D freezer is a thing.
@@rauminen4167 I mean more that his colonists won't be able to carry it all to a freezer before it starts to rot.
