English translation of this lecture. In this lecture Ustad Noman has talked about many small lessons but have really tried to capture the emotional state and the feelings of a woman who is almost 100 years of age and had been barren all her life and now she is receiving the news of a boy. Through this Ustad Noman talks about such women around the world who are unable to get pregnant and unable to give birth. The Surah is الذّٰرِیٰتِ - Ayats 24- 30. Translation. Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? - When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf. And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?" And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy. And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!" They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." Summary. The words عَجُوۡزٌ عَقِیۡمٌ (barren old woman) are very deep and her reaction (struck her face) is also very deep. This tells us a lot about those barren women and their psychological and emotional state. What they go through. Statistics show that 60-80 million women worldwide cannot have a baby. 13% women in their 20s to 30s can't have a baby but these stats are rising up to 30-40%. The research papers and interviews of those women, who are now in their 80s, about how their lives were, how they feel and think, highlight some key points about married women who can't give birth. 1. The chances of depression, anxiety and inferiority complex in these women are 70-80% higher then other women. 2. She feels like she hasn't fulfilled her husband's right, his wish. 3. I am incomplete, I could not fulfill my purpose. 4. I could not give my parents, grandchildren. These feelings leads to long-term depression and anxiety and that woman feels an anger for herself. Once you feel angry at yourself, you get angry at people around you. Her personality becomes agitated, aggressive and she starts getting loud. Such women also have to face the criticism of society, husband, husband's family and even her own family. Especially if her younger sister gets pregnant the pressure and depression increases 100 times. Another survey was conducted of about 500 such women in a warzone. They were asked what was the most traumatic experience in your lives? In the circumstances of war they replied, they couldn't have a baby. Now this woman is with Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) and he is making duas all his life about having children and Allah has promised him the prophethood in his lineage and the other wife of Ibrahim (A.S) has children and this woman is barren all her life what could she be feeling!? Now think about her reaction, she slapping her face, it's not strange. She's almost a 100 years and she hears that a boy will be blessed to her and she gets offended and angry. She has no regard for protocol that those are the angels who came to talk to her husband. She screams, "a barren old woman!" why now!? Why not before!? I can't even stand how can I give birth? If I was able to give birth now why kept me barren all my life? How can I take care of him? Now you tell me I am having a baby, you this this is good news for me!? Men can't feel this pain but imagine yourselves in your 20s when your life's about to start and you get falsely accused and sent to prison for 20 years. After 20 years you were told that it was all a mistake, you would be more angry than happy at your freedom. You would scream , "Am I supposed to be happy! When I was yelling that I was innocent, you never believed me!" You've wasted all my life! So the thought comes to that person's mind and she expressed it so loudly and boldly to those angels and to Allah. Sometimes we are faced with a problem in our lives that causes nothing but constant pain. And years later that problem gets solved and we start thinking couldn't this problem had solved before? I am happy but if this blessing was in my neighborhood why wasted all these years? And we couldn't comprehend the wisdom behind it. Now the angels replied, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." I know Allah has said this but why? Well, He is all wise الۡحَکِیۡمُ, He knows when to give you children, this was His plan but whatever depression you went through, He is الۡعَلِیۡمُ. He knows your sadness, the tears you wept in secret, that constant pain, He knows all of that. She couldn't be satisfied by any human she needed these two names of Allah. Now the wisdom of this matter at hand was that, Ismail (A.S) was born before and in his lineage there was no Prophet for like a thousand of years and Prophet Muhammad PBUH was born at the very last. And this barren wife of Ibrahim (A.S) has children named Ishaq(A.S), Yaqoob(A.S), Yusuf(A.S), Musa(A.S), Zachariah (A.S), Yahya(A.S), Maryam (A.S) and the entire lineage of Prophethood of Ibrahim (A.S) one after the other till Jesus Christ (A.S). Each one a Prophet. She became the mother of all these Prophets who's lives became a means of guidance for us. Subhan Allah! So, we don't know the problems we are facing may have benefits for hundreds of years after our death. All we should do is be grateful to Allah for his blessings because he is الۡحَکِیۡمُ. May Allah bless us with guidance and gratitude and forgive our sins. Hope I've covered it all. I'm sorry for any mistakes I've made in translating the lecture. Peace.

Word-to-word (almost) English Translation from 2:30 (where he starts in Urdu) Part 1 of 3 (see complete thread) In today's short khutbah, I would like to talk to you about an incident mentioned in Surah Ad-Dhariayt. Wherever in the Quran Allah SWT has mentioned an incident, He has revealed an ayah about a short moment from the life of a prophet. It could be that the actual dialogue that took place was much longer but He chose to put a very short part of it in the Quran. And the importance of that short part is more than enough. You would sometimes feel that you don’t have the full explanation of an incident, such as what happened before or after that. So our mind usually goes to the things that are not mentioned. Such as in the incident of Yusuf A.S, his mother is not mentioned. Then we ask who was his mom? What was her name? Then later the wife of the Azeez is asked about. who was she? Did she marry Yusuf A.S. later or not? What happened to her? Why? The thing that Quran does not mention, all our focus is on that, not on the thing mentioned. This is also a training of the Quran. Sometimes the teacher talks less, and the purpose is that the student who has thousands of questions, he is not answering those but rather just saying one thing. So that your mind is focused on what is being talked about and that one thing is better than the answers to those 1000 questions. If you leave those questions and focus on that single thing and ask yourself that what questions do I have based on the ayah being studied? What can I learn from it? So, it may happen that from this your whole life could be changed. And this is how our approach should be towards the ayah of the Quran that Allah has gifted us this precious gift and instead of additional things, we should start with things mentioned in the Quran. It’s not like we need to go outside this ayah to understand it first. So keeping this in mind, one small incident of Ibrahim A.S when he reached the age of 80. His first wife did not bear any children. Then he remarried to Hajra A.S, who gave her a son Ismail A.S while she was around 86 years old (according to the Bible, which the Quran does not refute). And his first wife Sarah could not give him a child all her life. And Sarah A.S was also from a royal family in her lineage. And in those families, when a child is born, he/she is also royal. Now she (Hajra A.S) got married to Ibrahim A.S and she could not give him a child until Ibrahim A.S turned 100 years old. At that time Allah SWT sends angels in human form to their house. And the moment Ibrahim A.S. opens the door and said salam “Salamun Qaumum Munkarun”. Salam, you look strangers, your clothes tell that you are not from around here and from your language that you are not a local. I don’t know you but come inside anyways. He sat them down. “Faragha li ahlihi”, he then subtly indicated to his family. “Ragha” means to indicate someone in a way that you are sitting like this and I indicate you in a way that no one else notices. This also shows respect. So that people don’t think that I am bossing my family. GO, Get food, Do this. Do that. There is importance of their self-respect of the one being instructed. It is also for the guest that they don’t feel that they are a burden. That okay they are here, get them some food now that they are here. So, the guest will also say okay I’ll leave don’t do this. So he didn’t even let the guests know that there was something being prepared and there was an understanding with his family that just a little indication secretly made them understand. Then later Allah SWT says “Faja aa bi ijlin sameen”. That then he brought fresh beef himself. Means he indicated them, but he went to help them himself as well. And didn’t give this impression that the family is my servant and they will serve us while I sit here, but he went himself the meat. “ Faqarrabahu ilaehem”, he presented the food to them, brought it near to them. Now they are young travellers. When you are travelling, your mind is occupied with food and you are looking for signs of restaurants. That you may find something that you stop over for food. Now they are coming from a journey, are not locals, so they should eat food immediately. “ Qala Alam Ta’akulun” , you are not eating? Your hands are not going to the food.
Part 2 It is interesting that in the same Surah later, Allah says “ Ma ureedu minhum mir rizqin wa ma ureedu ayeen yutimun” , I do not want rizq from them, and I don’t want that they feed Me. And the ones that He sent (the angels) didn’t want rizq and didn’t want to be fed either. So SubhanAllah there is a very beautiful analogy between these two things. Anyways, Ibrahim A.S says why aren’t you eating? In that period, there was a principle that if you want to kill someone, then your dignity does not allow you to eat from what they provide, if my intention is that. So when they are not eating, they are strangers, so it occurred to him that maybe their intention is something else. “Fa aujasa minhum kheefatan”. That if they are refusing food maybe they are here to assassinate me. So there was a little indication of fear on his (Ibrahim A.S) face. “Wajas” is a little indication of fear. Like suspicious kind of fear which brings stress to you and changes your expression. Now the angels noticed that and said “La Takhaf”, no need to fear. We are not here with that intention. Then they clarified their purpose of coming. They said “Wa bashharuhu bighulamin aleem”. Allah said that they gave a good news to them that they will be granted with a son and the word used for son, He used the word “Ghulam”. This word in Urdu is used for servant but in Arabic it is used for a young 10-11 years old boy. So not only did they say that you’ll be gifted with a son, but he will reach this age in front of you and in this age he will be knowledgeable. This is Ishaq A.S being talked about. At other places in the Quran, this becomes clear. And then Ismail A.S is already born. Now it wasn’t like the houses were like big palaces that after 3 hallways is the kitchen, his wife was somewhere near and was around 100 years old. Now the angels said that you’ll have a child and he would reach this age. Which means you will also live to see him grow older. That would be the good news because if the parents die before the child reaches a mature age, then it doesn’t make sense for it to be a good news. So, the khutbah that I am trying to give is about the next two ayah. This was just the introduction from Allah in Surah Ad-Dhariyat. Now let’s come to the main point at least for today. That is “Fa aqbalatim ra atuhu”. So his wife turns towards the angels . “Fee Sarratin” , screaming, like “Whattt??” in a shock, she yelled “ Fasakkat wajhaha”, she started slapping her face. And then her two words that she uttered “Faqalat Ajoozun Aqeem”. She said “Old Woman”. Ajuz actually comes from Ijz, which in Arabic means that something does not have any power. If someone does not have the power to stand then he is Ajiz from standing like we say in Urdu. In Arabic also we call Quran Mu’jiz. We call it Mu’jiza that if someone tries to go against it, they do not have the power to do so. Whosoever tries to gain superiority over the Quran, he becomes Ajiz. So Quran is Mu’jiz (makes someone Ajiz). So she used this word that I do not have the ability to do so. I can’t even sit comfortably. I can’t even stand properly. I can’t climb stairs. How can I give birth? “Ajuz”. And the second word she uses is “Aqeem”. This word actually means the woman who does not have the ability to bear a child from the beginning by Allah, which we call infertile. So if she has this illness from a young age, then she is called Aqeem. If later maybe she cannot conceive but she had children earlier, she is called Maaqum. But Aqeem is infertile from the start. So she used these 2 words, screamed, slapped her face, “Ajuzun Aqeem” , Old woman who has been infertile always. So the question arises that Allah sent these angels to Ibrahim A.S. Quran is a guidance for us until the last day. They were sent for 2 purposes. To give the good news of a child. If Allah had not described to us this whole scene about her reaction, then the main information we needed that there was news about the child who later was Ishaq, the information is complete. Then what is the need for this scene? What do we learn from this? And then it is interesting that the angels Allah sent is to the prophet, they are here to talk to him, now his wife also knows that they are they are here to talk to the prophet, but she intervenes that no I will talk. “What did you say?” “Old woman, Infertile”? “Alas”. Who is she talking to? To the angels. The angels don’t even say, “See Madam, we are here to talk to Ibrahim A.S, this is against our protocol. We only talk to prophets; we won’t talk to you”. They replied to her. “Qalu Kazaliki” Yes it will happen this way. “Qalu Rabbuki”, this is what your Rab has said. “Innahu hual hakeem ul aleem”. He is the All-Wise, All-Knowing. In most places in the Quran, you will find “ Al aleem ul hakeem”. Only at a few places you will find “ Al hakeem ul aleem”. First hikmat, then ilm. And this answer the angels gave to this old woman. So Quran records this dialogue between an old woman and angels. And we also consider this guidance. So now it has to be understood some more.
Part 3 While I was working on this Surah, it occurred to me that these 2 words are very deep. “Ajuz, Aqeem”. And her reaction is also very deep. So I researched on it a little. That the women who cannot give birth, how do they feel? What is their psychic. I didn’t know that 60-80 million women around the world cannot have a baby. 60-80 million. And now the stats are changing. Percentages are changing. 13% Women between the ages of 20-30 have no chances of giving birth. And this chance in 30-40 years is increasing according to the new census. There is 30-40% chance now. So its not a situation of a single woman but a situation of millions of women. And then I studied the research papers including interviews of women who are in their 70s 80s and never had a child, how is her life, what does she think, how was she affected. There have been surveys and studies on them in different universities around the world. From these some things come out as a result. That such a woman who couldn’t give birth despite being married have 70-80% greater chances of depression and anxiety, inferiority complex, compared to other women. She feels that I did not give my husband his rights, I couldn’t fulfill his wishes. I am inferior, I have some flaw. I couldn’t fulfill my purpose. She has another feeling that my parents had this wish of having a grandson which I couldn’t fulfill so I am inferior. So this inferiority complex pushes her into anxiety and depression. And for too long if a person remains like that, they start being angry at themselves. So once you start being angry with yourself, you start getting angry on everybody around you. So your personality becomes agitated. She starts getting angry, she raises her voice, she becomes aggressive. In her life, there are so many problems. Then I found a survey that in a war zone, 500 women were interviewed who couldn’t bear a child and they were asked what is the most traumatic experience of your life? And while living in a warzone, they said we didn’t have a baby. So you and me we read this translation and move on and don’t realize this. A woman who has reached a certain age and cannot have a baby, she has spent her life in anxiety and depression. And in our society we have a special blessing that she has to listen to taunts about herself. First you are already cursing yourself, then your in-laws, your husband, your own parents don’t spare you. And then it also happens that for instance that one sister does not have a baby and her younger sister gets married and gets pregnant. Now everyone else is happy but her inferiority complex increases 100 folds, it becomes depression. That what flaw did I have? So now think that the woman with Ibrahim A.S, and Ibrahim A.S has been praying for an Ummah for so long and Allah has promised him that prophethood will continue in his generation, all these promises and this woman spent her entire life with him. And then he married a second time where he had a son in this old age. Now imagine the depression that this woman must be in. What she must be feeling? So keeping this in mind if you think that this woman who is at the end of her life, around 100 years now she hears that she will be gifted a child. So she is in a state of anger. She yells. She does not feel the need of any protocol knowing that those are angles (R.A). She says in front of them “Old woman”. When I was young, what was wrong? Now why are you giving me? Why not before? Why did you keep me Aqeem for so long? Now they are two questions. I would say in English “ why now?” and second is “Why not before?”. Now I cant even stand how will I give birth. Even if I do, how will I take care of the baby? My age of enjoying my child, of caring for him, you stole that away from me. My entire life you kept me infertile. And now that I am old then you think this is a good news??? And if you had to do this, then why kept me infertile for so long. This is unfair. How is this possible? So her yelling, and her slapping her own face makes sense a little. This is not a small thing, it is a depression and sadness of a lifetime. See I’ll give you another example of this. For instance someone is in jail for something that he did not do based on fake evidences. 20 years he spends in jail and after 20 years it was found that the evidences were fabricated. Come out you are being released! When he will be released after 20 years will he be happy or will he be depressed? He will be in depression of course. 20 years of my life you stole away from me. My entire youth you destroyed. Should I be happy now that you released me? Couldn’t you do this earlier? When I was yelling that I didn’t do it. I am innocent. So a person can think this which was expressed by this woman. She expressed it to the angels knowing that they are representatives of Allah. So in a way she expressed it directly to Allah. The way people ask prophet (SAW) anything since he is a representative of Allah, it is like asking Allah since He will answer the question through him. That is why it is said “the one who follows the prophet is actually following Allah”. Since they are following Allah’s guidance so there is a direct link. So you can say that she is questioning God. She is questioning God and His angels that Now you think of it? Why so? How so? So when you read this ayah from this point of view then you will understand that in our lives there are some things that are problems over problems. And later it gets solved, after a very long period of time. So it occurs that why didn’t I find this earlier? Why was it not solved earlier? This blessing was right in front of me, in my neighborhood and now it came ?? I am happy that this blessing is here but so many years wasted ?? What was the sense behind this? I do not understand. So this question arises in everyone’s mind at some point. The deprivation of anything is given by Allah to everyone at different levels. And the thought that if it had happened what would be bad comes into your mind a lot. Why like this ? So the angels despite talking to Ibrahim A.S earlier, started to talk to this woman. Now they say to her “Kazaliki qala rabbuki”, this is what your Rab has said. Okay He has said but why ? I know He said it, but why did He say that? Now see 2 of Allah’s names Aleem and Hakeem, but first name used here is Hakeem (All-Wise). That means Hakeem is.. lets say when you do something that doesn’t make sense, then it does not have hikmah. If you do something that makes sense and gives benefit, then it has hikmah. Get it? So in simple language you can say that no one has more sense than Him, He is Al Hakeem. So Allah knows that NOW is the time for you to have a child. And there is some hikmah in this which you don’t know. He knows when to make you a mother. It was His plan that all these years of deprivation were a part of his hikmah. But the second thing, that all the pain and sadness you had to go through, the tears you had in pain, the pain in your heart with which you slept and woke up, all of this Allah has complete knowledge of (Aleem). “Qalu innahu hua Al Hakeem ul Aleem” These two words she gets this comfort and consolation she needed. She cannot get any comfort from any human. But now she has such a relationship with Allah, that Our Rab has several names but, in her life, she needed these 2 names the most. What Allah does, He does with Hikmah. If He removed this problem from me today, then it was His plan. He could have done it before but it was His hikmah that I get rid of it today. And the pain I was going through, He was not unaware of it, He is Aleem. Innahu hua Al Hakeem ul Aleem. So this is one Azeem hikmah which we should understand. The birth of Ismail A.S happened before and after him his children for 1000s of years remained misguided. And at the end Prophet SAW came from the generation of Ismail A.S. 1000s of years ! Ibrahim A.S is a prophet then Ismail A.S then after him 1000s of years of misguidance and then at the end comes the Prophet Muhammad SAW. And this woman who has been infertile, her child is now Ishaq A.S who is a prophet. His child is Yaqub A.S who is a prophet. His child is Yusuf A.S., a prophet. His children Allah says later, hadith says later “Kullama halakan nabiyyun khalafa nabiyyun”. In Bani Israel, prophets use to come one after another. One died, another come. Every generation had a prophet, prophets upon after prophets until Isa A.S. She is the mother of all prophets. The woman who remained infertile does not know that who is she a mother of. She is also the mother of Musa A.S. She is the mother of Zakarriya A.S, She is the mother of Yahya A.S, She is the mother of Isa A.S, She is the mother of Maryam A.S. Because all of them came from Ishaq A.S. SubhanAllah. So you don’t know that maybe the problem you are going through, the plan Allah has for you after getting out of it, maybe its benefit will become obvious after 100 years of you leaving, 300 years after you die. When we get stuck in our lives, we think of it as infinite that this problem will never be solved. Your life is only a few moments, not until eternity. But the blessings Allah gives you, if you will be thankful for them properly, then its effects can spread around the world for centuries. You cannot imagine that. This is a mindset that Allah has given in so little words. Only 2 words which If we read randomly that she is old and she is infertile, okay let’s move on where is the interesting part? What happened next? Everything that Allah said has treasure in it. Humans should search for this treasure with open hearts. May Allah change our lives and make the noor of this Quran enter our hearts. P.S. Please ignore the grammatical mistakes since it is an attempt to translate it word to word in order to capture his expressions as well
MashAllah barak Allah. He is fulfilling the right of Quran majeed by the way he is explaining and this is just amazing. Quran need to be explored this way. AluumdUlilah we have teachers like Sir Nouman and Dr Israr we are indeed blessed.🤲🏻❤️
SubhanAllah My Rabb is great I was in deep depression this morning about something & this Khutbah came in front of me & I started listening it & AlhamdulillAllah AlhamdulilAllah Can’t say anything but SubhanAllah
Recite Astaghfirullah constantly. Say it 3 times after every salat and minimum of 100 times a day. It means, "I seek forgiveness from Allah". Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever says, 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,' 100 times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.
Allahumma Barik Ustad, beautiful explanation soothe my heart. Quran ka ek maujaza ye bhi hai har ayat se jo paigam nikalta hai sunne wale ko lagta hai ye mere liye hi hai.
Too good an explanation !! MashaAllah !! Ustaad is a gem and this wisdom and knowledge (how & what he explains) can only be from Allah and that Allah is pleased with him. He is khair for so many MashaAllah.
MashaAllah amazing lecture.May Allah swt gives you a long and healthy life and always keeps you safe.Ustad you are a blessing for the Muslim Ummah. May Allah swt rewards you immensely for your work and efforts.
So amazing MashaAllah 👏🏽I truly loved this Khutbah ... Outstanding hamesha ki tarah and of course Mr Khan is matchless. Unki Kya baat ! I only have one small observation as an Arabic native speaker it's "Kadhalika" not "Kathaliki" with Fatha" not Kasra كَذَلِكَ (just felt it's my responsibility to correct the pronunciation. It''s being said to a woman, a feminine version would be kadhaliki, wtih kasra. The same word was used by angels when they answered the question of Mariyam A.S, when she asked them how could she give birth to a boy when she had not ever been touched by a man.

And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!" They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."
Summary.
Now the angels replied, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."
I know Allah has said this but why?
Peace.

Word-to-word (almost) English Translation from 2:30 (where he starts in Urdu)
Part 1 of 3 (see complete thread)
In today's short khutbah, I would like to talk to you about an incident mentioned in Surah Ad-Dhariayt.
Part 2
It is interesting that in the same Surah later, Allah says “ Ma ureedu minhum mir rizqin wa ma ureedu ayeen yutimun” , I do not want rizq from them, and I don’t want that they feed Me.
Part 3
While I was working on this Surah, it occurred to me that these 2 words are very deep.

Allah aapko hamesha kush rakhein is duniya me aur akhirat me bhi. Aap jaante nahi ho aapne mujhe kitni tassali di hai

I'm no one to criticize the mesmerizing knowledge of Mr Nauman)
It''s being said to a woman, a feminine version would be kadhaliki, wtih kasra. The same word was used by angels when they answered the question of Mariyam A.S, when she asked them how could she give birth to a boy when she had not ever been touched by a man.
MASHALLAH...I never understand this ayat as u explain
Ustazii Nouman Ali Khan may Allah reward you a lot
