Seems like every valve core leaks. Would you ever use red nylog (for r22) under the cap in case the schrader starts to leak? I hear that will seal off any leaking valve so the r22 won’t escape better than just the gasket. Great job by the way.

Hello Richard!!! Yes you can do that. I had the nylon in my tools. I don't know why I didn't use it. Thanks for catching that.

I have a question. When you tap into the system with gauges to get readings do you have to vacuum the line , zero out gauges and then open the valve to get readings? Or zero out readings, vacuum line and then open system valves ? Would the procedure also apply in a refrigerator? Thank you for making the video .

@@iM-mf1ke since I'm on this thread I'll answer for him. If im wrong someone can chime in.
If the system has Schrader valves (most modern ones do) you don't need to open or close valves. Older ones with a king valve you do. You don't vacuum anything. When you put the hoses on there will be air in them. You need to bleed that out using the pressure from the system. The gauges should be calibrated (0) before you start. They almost always are when you buy them. If you are adding refrigerant you need to bleed the yellow line from the refrigerant bottle to the manifold also. Lots of videos out there. Watch how to.charge a car ac on RUclips. It will help you understand

@@Samlol23_drrich Thank you for responding, I think I may had made a mistake here. I am practicing with a fridge that had a leak in the evaporator. I connected two piercing valves (one on the low side and the other on the high) . Once I replaced the evaporator I checked for leaks with nitrogen and preceded to vacuum system . I bought some digital Testo gauges. At vacuumed my gauges showed -14.7 which is as far as they go unless you connect the micron gauge (which I don’t have ) but I vacuumed for about an hour just to make sure. While charging my system my scale which is just a chep food weight scale turned off and I lost track of the amount of Freon going in.
I did weight the can prior starting and after I was done and based on that is showing that i overcharged by 1.25 oz ( not accounting for whatever was in the hose ) so I know I was overcharged. So now I need to make sure my low side is at 0 psi while running. I installed my gauges and vacuumed (showed -14.7) than opened my piercing valve and I had a vacuum of -2 but I didn’t reset my line to 0 prior opening my piercing valve , Should I had zero it out? I apologize for the long message but I wanted to give context to what I’m doing here.

@@iM-mf1ke let me start by telling you I’m not an expert or in the business. So take what I write with a grain of salt. Did you replace the piercing valves with more permanent schrader valves? Usually when guys break into the system they only use one, and then they replace it with an access port. I would watch a few videos by “subzero specialists” Aaron. His videos are great and just what you are looking for. Having said that, I don’t think the low side is supposed to run in a vacuum if properly charged. The right way to do this is recover everything again and weigh the right amount in (or at least close).
