Songkhla will never be the same. It will crowed with farang tourists because of you Paddy. You introduce and represent Songkhla and make it known to the world very well. Excellent job!
It reminds me of Penang, love those shop houses and colonial buildings and the street Art. I love the high pitched Sawadee krup’s you do. Great stuff Paddy thank you. ❤️
It’s because Songkhla (Singgora) used to be part of the Malay Sultanate, before it was exchanged (as part of a packaged deal) for Kelantan etc. 🙂 If you check out some parts of Phuket town, you’ll be able to see the distinct similarities in architecture with Penang & Malacca as the Straits-born Chinese settled there too.
My 3 favourite RUclips vloggers in Thailand...Retired working for you, Paddy Doyle and CB media. I believe you guys are on the way to making it really big on youtube. Best wishes.
I am following Paddy for two reasons: 1. Love the adventures 2. Looking to find a "perfect" place to retire in 12-15 years. Chiang Mai was on the top, but with the burning that takes place and air pollution, it is no longer on the top. Once I saw Paddy's Hat Yai tour, Hat Yai is #1 for now. It may change as Paddy's show more places :).
I love your love and enthusiasm towards our country and each lovely little places you've been. So glad for your channel to be growing now, keep on great work! 👍👍
this is "next level" pro standard video making and presentation, like watching a good tv travel show, never knew about this place despite decades travelling in asia, excellent young man
I'm thinking the TAT should consider putting you full time on their payroll and start using you and your videos in promoting Thailand to the world. No kidding!
Love your accent!! Most RUclipsrs are Americans or Canadians. It is so fresh to listen to someone speaks with a British accent. At this time when most of us can’t travel. It is so amazing that we can watch you on your little Honda. I hope the videos are longer and more detailed.
Love the intro! Love everything about this new channel! Waking up wondering how your days have gone...and, all the sudden you pop up with another amazing one to share! Keep it up, you are an ace at this!
I love Songkhla! Went there on my biketrip! So good to see it again! The deep south of Thailand is a nice place! Thanx for bringing us there with U man!
I am an American on vacation in Thailand, and I visited Songkhla on a whim because of this video. I was on Ko Lipe, not too far away, and was inspired to check it out. I am here right now and I have to say it is a really cool place! I’ve been here two days so far, and have not met another foreigner.
This is becoming a favorite vlog. It’s exciting to see all the provinces and I especially like it when you show the street life, houses and cultural places. Since I can’t go to Thailand now I’m traveling through your videos. Now I’m all inspired to go south the next time I visit.
Hi Paddy, thank you for making me love my hometown even more. I instantly subscribed to your channel after stumbling upon your channel for the first time with the video about Hat Yai.

Of all the southern provinces shown in your videos so far, to me Songkhla really does seem next level! Also, what is really cute in this video is your small red pimple, right in the middle of your nosetip 🤤
Brilliant video... Noodle soup ❤️ our favourite could just taste it with your description. Cold beer ☹️☹️, is a no, no. This place looks amazing, from the old town, to the beach. Loving your content and agree with those that have said before me your top of the vloggers list in this house. Look forward to the rest..x
Is there anyway of includung some kind of map at the beginning of each video showing current location and shaded in the provinces you have been to so far.
Hey Paddy, another great video! I’ve been to Hat Yai and Songkhla but never had the time to explore. It is now the month of Ramadan and most will be fasting in the deep South. Please explore the wonderful food markets that only appear during these times. But stay safe and just be mindful of local customs ya. Cheers from Malaysia.
Paddy you are the best Thai Vlog around..you are funny but cool..!!! I"ve been living in Thailand for 20 years and its good to know that there his people like you around..!!..excellent.!! BBC should sign you up..!!
I’m addicted to this series Paddy! I’ve never gone any further south in Thailand than Koh Lanta... This town looks amazing & is now definitely on my list! At least the crappy meal didn’t cost you $40 AUD....😂
Hey Paddy, really enjoyed the video, well produced and entertaining. Me and my gf have lived here for 8 months so far, and for what it’s worth I thought I’d post my pros and cons of Hat Yai! Pros - 1. The food. Like you said, there’s great diversity of cuisine and most of it can be found for outrageously cheap prices. What I would say though is you do have to put in the effort to find places, it’s not like some cities where there’s a ‘food street’ where you can just stroll along and browse (although such an experience can be had at Greenway Night Market, not featured in your video but highly recommend you check it out next time) 2. Cheapness! As well the food, the accommodation is extremely reasonable, we have a spacious condo with a balcony and a nice shared pool for just 3,700 THB a month! Taxis and tuk tuks are also cheap especially compared to Phuket. 3. Travel connections: like you said the airport is really handy and the train station also has sleeper trains to bkk and Penang in the other direction. 4. Amenities: it’s got everything you could need and like you said, English language movies, would also point out the 4dx screen there I believe is the only one in the south of Thailand. 5. The beach, which although not great, is still a beach at the end of the day. Cons - 1. Also the beach! You must have been very lucky indeed because I’ve been to it several times at various points of the year and it’s always been very ugly: the water is a horrible grey/brown colour, there’s a lot of trash, and there are huge concrete pipes scattered all along it. This is not an ideal beach for relaxing and for most of the year the waves are so big you wouldn’t wanna risk a swim. I was shocked to see it in your video as I’ve never seen it like that! 2. The weather: unlike most other places in Thailand that have a pretty even split, Hat Yai’s rainy season lasts for 75% of the year and at times the rain is so heavy and persistent you can’t leave the house. During the dry season it’s hot that you don’t feel like spending much time outside during the day. So basically you’ve ever boiling or soaking wet. 3. The traffic lights, which as you rightly said, are a deal breaker! I’m not kidding, we’re actually considering leaving because of it. Maybe it’s bad luck but I always seem to be on the street that has to wait the longest. I’ve seen lights green for 20 seconds and red for 199+. Doable with a bike as you only wait for one cycle but in a car it’s hell. Try that twice a day for a commute and then spending what feels like half your weekend sat in traffic! I’ve since switched to a bike commute but for car drivers it’s enough to make you lose the will to live at times! 4. The driving standards: we are know Thailand has a very bad standard of driving in general, but Hat Yai is the absolute worst I’ve ever seen. It seems everyone who drives here has a death wish, people will willingly put their lives and others lives in danger just to save a few seconds on their journey. 5. The views: apart from the temples and the mosques and a few shopfronts downtown, it’s visually quite a drab place, and combined with the usual grey skies it’s hardly a work of art! I must thank you though, for giving me a slightly different perspective on my current city and maybe inspiring me to make the most of it a bit more, when you’ve lived here for a while it does wear you down a bit! My conclusion, good for a few days or maybe a week, but personally it’s not for me long term, I’m not much of a city person and I’m itching to go back to island life! Keep up the good work Paddy!
Great Chanel you are very interested and professional I myself have just arrived in Bangkok Thailand and your Chanel is keeping me sane in my 10 days quarantine AQS hotel best of luck to you
Nice video, Paddy - I love Songkla. For viewers planning a trip to Songkla, you can also skip the (paid) funicular and walk up to the viewpoint for free - the steps are from the opposite side of the hill from the funicular (I went that way, mostly because I didn't realise there was a funicular, but it was a nice climb with zero other people about).
Wow this destination looked amazing!! As a former coffee shop owner Im curios about the orange coffee combo.. was that a shot of espresso on top? thanks
Another really nice location and vlog. Old town looks very similar to Penang and or Malacca in Malaysia. Nor surprising when it this part of Thailand is so close to Malaysia. Sorry about meal fail but life is all about balance - cannot have light without some shadow. Really enjoying this set of videos when lockdown in Scotland is finally easing a bit, I will defiantly be returning to Asia in 2022
Right now we'll take a warm beer and ok food as long as we're in Thailand lol the experiences you're having are amazing. We love watching your videos Paddy. They keep us going towards our goal and keep us sane until we can come enjoy it ourselves 😀
14:18 Why it has a bronze statue of mermaid here in this beach ? , Well , the fomer mayor of Songkhla once when he was a child his father told him about urban story that a fishman while walking on the beach at night he saw a young mermaid sitting on the rock and combing her hair with a golden comb. When she realized that the fishman saw her she suddenly plunged to the water and was dissapeared but she forget the comb and left it on the rock , the fisherman kept the comb and waited the mermaid to come back again. Sadly that mermaid didn't come back and the golden comb is still the legend artifact that noone know now where is the comb gone and who keeps it.
@@PaddyDoyle. Actually, there are two mermaid statues being famous in Thailand, the first one is combing mermaid in Songkhla province which you have visited and the last one is on Samet island, located in the east of Thailand, near Rayong province, which is along with the giant bronze statue of a female ogress when you are there you will see them
Hiya. Sorry late in watching it was my birthday. 13th. :D 'Great video enjoyable content. That viewpoint might have been wreaked. But what amazing views. Beautiful beach to ride a horse. Your theory on the mermaid cracked me up. Lol. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Safe travels.
Well I have noticed this in a few videos. I really hope you tried the food before you added the extra spices ect. As a matter off etiquette you always try it first before you add on, BECAUSE if you add before you try it , you are in a sense saying to the chef “I will season it, cause you didn’t or you don’t know how and I don’t respect your cooking!” (Represents No respect for their abilities) I’m not saying that is what you are doing. I been to some restaurants where they will ask you to leave and never comeback if you add before you try. I understand everybody has their own preferences, but you should always experience the meal the way the chef has prepared it, thenyou can add to suit your own taste. Just an FYI Love the video

Love the video
It’s fish sauce! Not fish oil. Anyway, we love your videos! We miss Thailand! Songkhla looks so much like Malacca and Penang. We can’t cross border yet but your videos bring us so much positivity! Keep on doing what you’re doing!!
It looks like Penang, Malaysia with it's old colonial style, street art, boutique shops and cafes...
Great stuff Paddy.
