I've never heard anything like this it's so dope, makes sense this genre is called triphop, but considering it's my first time hearing of the genre, it almost doesn't seem fitting since this song is on a completely other rhelm compared to any hip hop music I've ever heard.
Found this on an old Playlist of mine and expected the song to be from the 2010's. Holy cow they were completely ahead of their time. In fact, they still are ahead of the time. One day triphop will come back like it's the first time

I love the story of how Tricky discovered Martina, the singer on this track and appearing in the video:
“In 1993, as a teenager at Clifton College, Martina Topley-Bird was discovered by trip hop pioneer Tricky when he saw her sitting on a wall near his house, singing to herself. “That's really how it happened," she recalled. "It's one of those things people are always surprised to find out is true. I remember the graveyard behind the wall. A few weeks later, I went around to his house with some friends. We'd been drinking cider after our GCSEs. We were banging on his door, but he wasn't in. Then Mark Stewart, who lived there, came up to us and said: "Yeah, this is Tricky's house, jump in through the window." So I jumped through, opened the door and we got mashed.”
They collaborated on many tracks and they had a daughter together born just after Maxinquaye was released.

This is one of those genre defining, moment defining, overwhelmingly influential songs that give voice to an age. It is one of those rare, priceless, utterly reflective songs that can carrie the spirit of a generation forward. Forward through ages yet to come, through nigh unimaginable oceans of time, to act as a kind of ancient voice of our age as an inspiration to those distant musicians yet to be existant. Born on worlds yet to be seen, gifted with that quintessentially human spark of our age. Gifted with a part of us that will, I think, remain viable, relevant and NECCESSARY to understand what we are, here and now - today at this very second , waiting spark anew, to inspire, to give context to our age and the most soulful truth of it, a gift that they, posthuman, AI, base human or whatever they have become, will give them the emotional and spiritual context to the dry words and cold concepts that are often so endemic to the checklisting of events that often passes for a full understanding of educationally adequate history.

me too yeah I don't deny there is, however radio back then used to play ear catching music, nowadays theres too much emphasis on image than substance and "artists" come across as cookie cut rather than individualist. Its that what i miss.

If you like this, try out Karma Coma by Massive Attack.

Which came first? This track came up on Spotify and I was taken aback. I recognized the lyrics from massive attack. I did only recently learn "Temptation" was originally New Order, I only had only known Moby's version from Hotel.

Looks like they're both '95, seems both versions came from a collaboration or some sort. Interesting

afaik... Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky all have the same roots in Bristol, and they share quite a few songs, not only KarmaComa/Overcome. Check out Hell is round the corner (Tricky) vs. GloryBox (Portishead).

    Lyrics
You sure you want to be with me?
    I've nothing to give
Won't lie and say this loving's best
Whoa, leave us in emotional peace
Mmm, take a walk take a rest
    And taste the rest
Don't wanna be on top of your list
    Monopoly improperly kissed
We overcome in 60 seconds with the strength we have together
But for now, emotional ties they stay severed
And when there's trust there'll be treats
When we funk, we'll hear beats
    Karmacoma

You're a couple, 'specially when your bodies double
    Duplicate and then you wait
    For the next Kuwait
