- In this winter vlog, I take you on a personal journey through the snowy roads of Northern Sweden. Many people assume it's impossible to drive here during winter, but I’m here to show you that the roads are actually quite well-maintained! From driving through stunning winter landscapes to the unexpected mishap of our car breaking down in the middle of nowhere, this video shares the full story. We also got our pickup truck stuck because we were on summer tires, but trust me - it’s not as bad as it sounds! In this vlog, I walk you through the experience, how we were towed away, and the lessons learned from driving in harsh winter conditions. If you love Scandinavia, nature, and real-life vlogs, this is the video for you! Join me as we explore what it’s really like to live in and drive through Sweden's beautiful yet challenging snowy landscapes. Hihi "don't drive on snow tires" 🤣 you mean don't drive on SUMMER TIRES! 😘😘😘 4:12
@@AnnabelinLapland Oops..😅😅😅
We got a great tip once: keep a blanket, some candles, a lighter and a light in your car for emergencies. We do that now! 💯
I always have a shovel, sleeping bag, flashlight and dry sand in a PET bottle.
@petter5721 Yes! What is the sand for? 🫣
Remember to check your car-insurrance. Alot of times in Scandinavia road-assistance is included. Pro-tip: A ekstra set of snow-chains + foldable shovel can also be a life-saver (specially in snowy areas).
Surprised how little snow you have btw.. 😄🙌
It has been an extreme winter this year, I talked with a 90-year-old woman and she said, that every year we have some period with thawing weather in the middle of the winter, sometimes more sometimes less snow but this year is extreme, never before have we had such a big difference in temperatures in such short periods (from -30 to + 5 in 2 days) and so little snow.
@@roboud9801 thanks Rob! ☺️
Yes forgot to mention it. We are insured for that, but we still had to pay 1500 kronor I think.
Great tips, we don't have a foldable shovel yet! I will buy it when I have the chance!
And yeah not a lot of snow. Beginning of januari we had a week of +7 degrees. So there wasn't a lot left. How is it at your place? Do you have more snow?
@@allaboutperspective650 yes crazy difference! 😮
I just rather have cold weather the whole time so we dont get all that ice on the roads
This is almost as exotic for me I guess, not the way of life close to the more populated areas of Sweden. Interesting to see and thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Eric, for another valuable video.
The footage of the driving on the local roads is appreciated.
Also good to hear you’ve been using your van in these same winter conditions.
The question on our/my end will be how to best “dress” the car.
As you said elsewhere, tyres with spikes are not allowed in central Europe and even southern Sweden.
I am starting to understand all season tyres might be the way to go when I end up traveling north before the end of this winter season. If I understand correctly, they allow me to drive on roads in central as well as northern Europe, including Sápmi. And I can install them down here in Belgium (as opposed to tyres with spikes that would have to be installed somewhere along the road in central Sweden).
@@MountSweden Your welcome! 🙂
I dont think it's allowed here to drive on all season tires. And its probably also not a good idea. I would rather just fit winter tires without spikes. That would be much better, and you can do that in Belgium.
Here is a website with some information: www.nokiantyres.se/dacktips/val-av-dack/aret-runt-dack/#Kan%20hel%C3%A5rsd%C3%A4ck%20anv%C3%A4ndas%20i%20Sverige?
And yes we drive our Honda and Volvo here no problem. They are both 4 wheel drive though. But I think tires are more important than having 4 wheel drive.
Do you have a date when you want to go? Cant be too long from now as its almost februari already! 🥳🥳🥳
@@EricNatureMovies Aha, *that* is the solution: winter tires *without* spikes. Yes, those should be allowed in Belgium, and can be mounted here as well indeed. Thanks so much!
@@EricNatureMovies As of a date: hoping for some time in March. Tomorrow we’ll be visiting a mobile home dealer.. 🤞
Great video. Some clarification.
When he says spikes he means studds.
When he says that winter tires are a must but tires with spikes are better he means studded winter tires.
Also, for people from Europe or other parts. Whats is considered winter tires in one part of the world is not always true in other parts. In Sweden we have following:
Summer tires (in some parts called performance tires). Then you have all seasons, then all weather. You also have European winter tires. But those tires are more for rainy days or for little snow fall.
In nordic countries you must look for whats is called Extreme winter tires or nordic winter tires. This winter tires come with or without studs. The advantage with studds are the grip on ice. They do nothing for snow!
@@paulozavala3232 thanks for the additional information!! Didn't know about the difference in winter tires in different parts of Europe
Minnesljus, ficklampa,tändstickor, yxa och tjocka filtar i fjol var det -45 c
Be careful please.I am so exciting to see your new house
@@PeterMccabe-h3q thanks! We will make a video of it soon! 🙂
There is a few days when driving is a bad idea. Mostly no problems. Checking weather reports will help.
Many boys (maybe even girls) play with the car in the winter and thus gain driving knowledge at a young age.
@@KjellEson yes thats very handy. You will have a good understanding of how a car reacts at a young age!
@@EricNatureMovies Winter Rally is poplar in Sweden and Norway -they know how to handle the car on snow/Ice haha
i allwys have survival kit in the car. a few candles, matches, some blankets, winter clothes
We have that too. Just to be sure!
"I told you soo".. no I didnt, but you did grasp it anyhow.
One thing to understand is that even if one have studded tyres, the braking length is still prolonged on ice and snow!
I do get "mobility garanty" = free road assistance when I serve my car at a brand authorised workshop!
And a free renting car for three days if needed!
In anyway.. up in Lappland there could be few and far between brand authorised workshops?
Yeah no authorised volvo workshops around here. But it´s ok. I have a assistansbolaget försäkring now. And it applies to every car I drive in, and also with a free rental car included. So I am happy with that!
❤
If someone knows that people live up north, the cant really assume that its impossible to drive in the snow during winter... Well it actually kind of is if you try to do this not having winter tires fitted that are designed and formulates especially for snow, ice and low temperature conditions.
Using summer tires in snowy conditions is not only dangerous and stupid its also illegal in Sweden. Winter tires are legally required between 1st of December through the 31 st of March if there is winter road conditions.
That being said its always important to adjust your speed to the conditions regardless
Oh yes absolutely don´t drive on summer tires in winter!
Most of the time we adjust our speed. 90 instead of 100 till exempel. But we notice we get overtaken a lot when we drive a bit slower!
When you're in driving school in Sweden it's mandatory to practice winter driving in a slippery test track.
That´s really smart!
You need to at least have a traffic insurance, but most people have half insurance or full inchurance, and it includes towing to a workshop if needed. insurance company ." Assistance bolaget" is only for towing, look what the traffic insurance say and include, you might paying double only for towing.
Hej, thanks for the info! Yes it is included in our insurance, but we still had to pay 1500 sek. So with assistans bolaget you don´t have to pay anything extra. And our other cars are also included (and they are not insured for it). So we decided we still wanted the extra insurance
leuk

@@Omaivo2904 we zitten er eigenlijk een soort van middenin! 🙂
Binnenkort maar een keertje een video over maken! ☺️☺️
@@EricNatureMovies Sterkte ermee! :)
@@Omaivo2904 bedankt! 🙂
If you have a 4x4 car and studded tires you a fine to drive more or less anywhere.
Yes! We never have any problems!
