- I've spent a very slow week in my family's cottage in the beautiful Maine woods ... and it's been so healing. The rocky coast of Maine has always been my most happy place. I visited some amazing thrift stores, took Charlie on his very first kayak ride in the lake, and made a fresh seaweed face mask. Now, I'm ready to bring some fun thrifted items back to my little boho cottage in the Hudson Valley.

Love this. My grandpa, whom I never met, purchased a little cottage 63 years ago in northern MI and I am ever so grateful that he did. It is on a lovely 11,000-acre lake with wonderful sunsets, and shallow and deep waters for all kinds of water sports. My mom bought her siblings out last year so that she could one day gift it to my brother, sister, and me. It is such a restful place. It needs some love, but we hope in the coming years to make it a place of blessing for our personal friends, too.

Hello Kate, What a beautiful place for your father to be laid to rest. The lighthouse will be even more special now to sit and look out over the water and feel your father near you. I love to hear the loons and the tides coming in so perfect. I'm glad you found so many cute things while thrifting especially your bathrobe that your heart had been wanting. Charlie was so adorable in his little yellow vest riding in the kayak. It's so awesome that you can just go out and gather seaweed for your mask. You're a blessed young lady. God bless you. I just lost my partner. He passed away last week, I miss him and think about all our times together and wish we had more time to do all the things we still wanted to do. That's life, so fragile and fleeting. Beautiful and filled with deep sorrow. So many contrasts and extremes.

There is no powering through. Some days, some moments we are okay and then bam, a smell, a touch, a taste, a coaxing breeze wash remembrances of our loved one back so we remember not to forget. This is my favorite video. I have such amazing memories of vacationing in Maine with my hubby. I loved Kennebunk, Biddeford Pool, York, Rye Harbour and all the little coastal resorts along the Ocean drive.
Unfortunately, they are but memories as my husband is completely disabled from Parkinson's.
You may or may not recall, I talked to you about the little 5 lb Chi I adopted, named Rudy. We have, now, been together a year and a half. He is doing so well but unlike Charlie, Rudy is a loner and quite shy. I am accepting him exactly as he is, with no pressure to change. We go everywhere, together. I love him as you love Charlie. We are so blessed to have these little guys, in our lives.

I wish I were there to give you a big hug and tell you that I am so sorry your dad passed away. I am glad that you were able to spend time in a place you love with your memories. You are such an authentic person, a rare commodity these days and on RUclips. I understand exactly what you mean about the old Nancy Drew books. I loved them all. I also read Trixie Belden books. I was probably about 12 years old and I would pretend I was Trixie solving mysteries. This post just brought it fresh to my mind, such a simple time. Thanks for bringing us real and meaningful content. ❤

For years, I've had recurring dreams about bodies of water being drained whether from lakes, rivers, or even pools. I've come to believe that (to me anyway) water represents opportunity. I eventually found my opportunity but now that I'm less than a year past a cancer experience it's time to find new opportunities while I'm still young enough to enjoy them.
BTW, I've enjoyed these two videos that I watched. I'm going back to the beginning and watch these from the start.

That was an amazing video. First, why is Charlie just the cutest! And second this place looks so beautiful and relaxing. I have said it in one of your previous videos but I love the sound of loons, so haunting but beautiful. And my million dollar dream is a small cottage on a nice quiet lake. I want to be able to do exactly what it looks like you have been, relaxing. And finally third, how cute for your mom to make a homemade hawk protector for Charlie, I loved it.

I'm stuck on James Herriot's books; he was an english vet in the 40's and 50's and his books are all about his experiences. He's an absolutely wonderful writer; funny and loving; check him out. Much love and hugs to you and your families hearts. I went to Virginia and North Carolina. It was so beautiful. We got to go to Lacay Caverns. It was nature's masterpiece. We drove across the mountains . We played in the ocean and took a night walk. Stress just went and happy filled up your soul. I told God I love the way he left his sparkles. My summer has been filled with yard work, weeds weeds and more weeds lol and watching critters eat all the flower I planted around the yard. I live on a lake and I feel very fortunate to be able to say that. So I get the swimming in the lake in a gentle rain. One of my most enchanting evening swim was a full moon lite night, it was very quite so when a pair of swans swam very close to me. I could hear the sound of their feathers as they moved. Sadly that pair of swans disappeared years ago.

I so enjoyed seeing Maine, I've always wanted to go there. I spread my husbands ashes in Lake Bowen where his family had a lakehouse. This reminded me of that experience 14 years ago. Thank you❤

Maine is such a beautiful state. I never really know what to say when a person I care about loses someone they care about, so I'm sending you love and tons of hugs. I loved seeing Charlie in the kayak. We used to take our dog Peppi out in the boat when my brother and I were growing up (we lived on a lake in KY) but she was never as well behaved as Charlie! You're so right about the water being so calming. It's like an embrace that washes away all the bad things and heals you. That little bookstore was so cute and perfect for the rainy day. So cozy! Don't know if you're back home yet, but either way, be safe..:)
