Panama Canal Ship Accident - Towing Mule Crushed

Footage has been captured of an incident on the Panama Canal, where a misguided container ship has crushed a tow train (or 'mule') as it was being pulled through the canal on April 03, 2014. Crushing starts at about 1:30.

The bow thruster pushes the bow toward the starboard side at 1:23. Look at the bow and the water churning.

This was a pretty ironic incident judging from the fact that these engines keep the ships away from the walls, so I’m guessing something must had gone wrong. But the damage doesn’t seem too bad, it can 100% be repaired.

the pilot is at fault as they take over from the ships captain from inbound marker buoy 1 for the duration of the passage through the canal

The ship pilot. You can see the ship was turning starboard into the wall

Judging by the noise on the microphone, it was pretty windy, so the ship was blown off course (Ever Given incident again). Pilot should have had more control though.

It looks like the pilot the ship get way out of trim and was spinning it clockwise when it should been spinning counterclockwise having to bow in the other direction and the stern coming closer
