Chris The whole point of watching you operate your machinery is the machinery and sounds and everything else that goes along with it. We can hear you just fine and please don’t change a thing, it’s perfectly fine.
I love the sound of the hydraulic pump and the diesel motor whirring away! Your voice is just audible enough to understand, but doesn't overthrow the sound of the machine. I like that.
Hey Chris I don’t know bout everybody else but I can hear you fine over the equipment running. To me, I like to be able to hear the equipment running and able to hear you talking but anyway great video brother keep them coming
I agree.... Being an owner operator myself I rely on equipment noise to make sure I don't have any mechanical issues.... and in Chris's case.....this so-called background noise is nothing different than any other video that I've seen since I started watching him 2 years ago.
If people learned to adjust their audio (treble/bass and or Equalizer) the sound would be fine on their end. for me it is excess bass (across multiple apps) which I fixed using EQ =) Then again most people think MP3 sounds great. hahaha
Thanks Chuck for Chiming in, must be nice to get the soil type you need from the property you are working on, we have rocky, sandy crap most places around here.
Hey Chris, great video. Re sound quality, Iike others, I enjoy hearing the machine sounds but I did notice some switching in recording tone and volumes. Some examples are around 5:15, 5:36, 10:04, 16:12 if you want to have a listen. Maybe it will help you figure out what's happening. (We could almost hear all of the conversation you and Tim were having while working on the fore pond...so we can hear just fine!) Cheers!
I just enjoy watching you using all those heavy equipment with super skills!... Wether it's you clearing, digging a pond or repairing a road! Very interesting content!
I love the videos of you digging ponds Chris as well as your tree clearing projects! Please continue to post your jobs as time permits! I really enjoy watching them.
To be honest, its sounding a little better now, so whatever you did Chris, it worked. Honestly the rest sounds like resonance. It changed audio to a worse quality for a few seconds starting at 1:15 if you want to compare settings.Either way, we appreciate you trying to sort it out. Thanks!
I have no problem with the equiptment noise. It makes it more authentic.Enjoy the commentary. Where are you located. I heard a reference to Eastern North Carolina one time I live in the Morehead City area . You can't be too close with all the red mud. Then the next time I see you in out flat land and lots of undeveloped forest. Enjoy and look daily. I'm retired and broke my femur 4 months ago. Just begenning to drive and get out on my own. So I spend a lot of time in front of the TV and with computer in lap. Keep it up
I'd suggest that Chuck Norris being nearly 80 years young,.doesn't have the slightest care or concern if we can hear the higher pitched sound of the equipment,..or not! LOL!
The noise is coming through the camera mount not through the air. The vibrations of the engine and pumps are in the walls of the cab and the glass and are shaking the mic. Take the camera off the mount and hold it in your hand for a second then put it back and see if the large background noise level goes away. Your voice also shifts from the center to the right dolby channel sometimes...don't know that that is a camera problem. Get a wireless mic and clip it on your shirt. that's the only way to stop the vibration noise from getting into the camera... Love watching you work. You are really gifted to be able to see and move those machines like that. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I love the noise of the the equipment. I fall asleep nightly to the calming sounds of your excavators lol. You are a highly skilled operator, thanks for putting us in the operators chair. Really appreciate your videos.
Nice one audio much better, either from settings or relocation. Background engine noise is still there but for once we can hear your manly tones, Thank you.
That concrete is like water! Looks good in the bucket but pours out like weak tea. Nonetheless, when a LetDig18 video shows up in my feed, it feels like Christmas! Thanks for the videos.
On my Hero5 I turned Protune off to help with the overexposure of sounds issue. In Protune you can set the “Audio processing” to off/low/med/high also. Hope that helps.
Chris, for the sound, it seems to "auto gain"; so when you don't speak for a moment it will automatically increase the sound recording volume, making the machine seem louder. Also, if the mound is on a metal part of the machine, without rubber in the mount, the metal will transmit the sound through the support it is on, also increasing the noise by vibration transmission.
That surveying guy (tim) was wearing the perfect camouflage for some stealth measuring in front of a working Digger !! Hi-vis vest about 5 quid/dollars mate !!
Just trying to help. At 24 :08 your dump truck in the background is sitting there with the box left up. OSHA can cite you if the truck is unattended with the box up and not supported with the safety bar For safety At 23:30 your helper should be wearing Hi Vis green. Right now they blend in perfectly with the dirt piles. Hitting them would not be good.
The trick is to try to isolate the camera from the body of the machine. Some sort of a semi soft rubber pad thick enough to pad but thin enough so the magnet still works. It's the vibration/harmonics that the camera are picking up on but you probably know that. Hope you can sort it out. Thanks for the video.
It’s fine, we can hear you fine, what good would it be watching this kind of work without hearing your equipment ? It would be boring, keep up the good work.
Chris, Most young boys grew up playing with plastic soldiers and related paraphernalia. I'll bet you grow up with Tonka Trucks, loaders, dozers, etc. I can tell your just an older fella that loves his life-size toys. You still make the same noises you probably made as a kid. Vrooooom Vroooom. I think it's a good thing, it shows you love your job. Dave
Watching these videos is pure nostalgia. The first thing I ever drove was a skid steer. Not to brag but my father was Einstein with a skid steer. I sure mis N.C.
Drive by inspection there the best ones Keep up the good work even if the plans are half blank But they can't tell you everything you might end up knowing more than them
Hay Chris, it does sound like you have the GoPro ridged mounted in the cab and what you are mounted to carries the equipment noise into the mike of the GoPro. An isolation mount may fix that but if the GoPro has more Fidelity in it audio you will have to fix the audio in the movie editor audio settings. Post processing the audio to reduce the equipment noise and increase your voice. Don’t eliminate the equipment noise as it adds to your videos.
It's natural background noise, that is part of what you hear. But if you want to look at it, here is what GoPro suggested. In Protune, turn on RAW Audio to capture an uncompressed version of audio in a separate 4-channel WAV file.
The camera might be picking up the sound through vibration of the casing. You could try a mount with rubber standoffs that will isolate it from the machine.
Sound is usually fine. I only remember 1 or 2 that you were a little quite on. If I remember also, you got a new GoPro and the 7 & 8 have different mic locations (3, I think) in the case so they are waterproof. I heard this is giving people some problems sometimes. But, like most everyone who watches you, we like the commentary and the machinery noise too.
I prefer hearing the equipment too! I think the balance between your voice and equipment is perfect! I think the differences people are hearing is from the camera mount, and/or location of it, picking up vibrations differently! Please... don't change a thing!
With regards to the sound, since finding your channel i have watched quite a few of your video's. I expect machinery noise due to the equipment you operate and i have never had a problem with hearing what you say.
A new video with Chris, yeah, good start on the day! Anyhow, I have something I been wondering about for a while, why is those wheels hanging in the air behind the concretetruck and what are they for? We dont have these in Sweden so I have always wondered :)
The problem with the newer go pro models is they went with a cheaper mic pre- which is what sets your mic volume. And the cheaper that preamp is The crappy or it’s going to sound. What I would recommend is getting some role in the EM S10 innermonitors. And what these will allow you to do is you can hook one plug in the headphone jack, and the other in to your microphone Jack and it will sound pretty awesome with those. Essentially what they are is your buds with microphones on the outside of them. And a pro tip when you’re recording with these mics make sure your go Pro is on its lowest audio setting so that way if there is a sound louder than 60 dB it will not cause popping in your microphones
I use these mics on my voice recorders, and the coolest thing about them is we hear things as you hear it. So like for example if a dump truck passes from your left side to your right side and you’re swinging, we will hear that drive-by. And we will also hear you swinging.
My grandson will be extremely excited in the morning every day he asks me if the dig it guy is on today. So tomorrow morning he will in his glory. Thank you, you always make his day with your videos
Just a thought, don't mount your camera magnet direct to the cab. Make sure you have a rubber isolation between the camera & the solid steel frame of the cab/roll bar. Or get a mike that attaches to your shirt & don't use the built-in camera mike.
Are you using a different location to mount or even a different camera mount? The mount or position may be transmitting different pitches of background noise. Maybe the front microphone goes in and out? I really don't know anything about GoPros other than there are settings for front and back microphone, back microphone alone and front microphone alone. So at 25:24 really clear voice, camera view different and zoomed in more. At 26:45 your voice sounds muffled and camera zoomed out more. This seems to be the case in all shots where you're zoomed in and there is a clear voice; then zoomed out with more generalized sounds. I think you're holding the camera when your voice is clearer. Yup, definitely at 26:30 your voice is clear and you seem to be holding the camera and then at 26:31 camera shot changes and voice is muffled. Maybe wearing a Mic with a transmitter to the camera might fix that. But all and all, I really enjoy your videos just as they are and the sound of the machinery adds to the charm, so don't change anything. Because a constant sound level would just sound like studio voice over, the variations make it much more authentic. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming.
the camera is always going to pick up the equipment noise because the vibrations translate through the camera mount to the camera speakers. The only way that you will reduce the equipment noise is with an external microphone that is on a special kind of mount. i sent you an e-mail about it and a solution.
Chris
The whole point of watching you operate your machinery is the machinery and sounds and everything else that goes along with it. We can hear you just fine and please don’t change a thing, it’s perfectly fine.
I agree
Me too!
ME TOO!!!
X1000
Agreed
I love the sound of the hydraulic pump and the diesel motor whirring away! Your voice is just audible enough to understand, but doesn't overthrow the sound of the machine. I like that.

The picture and sound of your video's are great, the sound of the equipment is part of what makes your video's so good.
I love hearing the equipment noise the engine change tone and pitch as you work. Can hear you fine Chris, keep making the great videos and stay safe.
Definitely need it. It is job the normal sounds of running heavy equipment. Leave it how you have it. You and your crew do wonderful work. Keep it up.
Hey Chris, great video. Re sound quality, Iike others, I enjoy hearing the machine sounds but I did notice some switching in recording tone and volumes. Zackly... I think it's his mount, or location of camera mount picking up sound vibrations differently!
The camera view from the front of the dump bed of the truck was a nice touch.
Ya. Don’t change anything. Love to hear the pump straining when under pressure
honestly I like the sound of the machinery in the videos. Oddly enough its relaxing lol
puts me to sleep
I like it it makes me feel like I'm in there with you .. like a back seat drive kind of thing..lol
There is nothing wrong with the sound. Let’s put the camera just outside the door and they will get the idea of the difference. I like it as it is.
To be honest, its sounding a little better now, so whatever you did Chris, it worked. Honestly the rest sounds like resonance. It changed audio to a worse quality for a few seconds starting at 1:15 if you want to compare settings.Either way, we appreciate you trying to sort it out. Thanks!
Chris it makes us feel like we are there! Don't worry it's okay 👍
4/16/2020 Hey Chris. recall the leaking dam with the sink holes a week or two ago. It was loaded with "why is that there" concrete. lol
I have no problem with the equiptment noise. It makes it more authentic.Enjoy the commentary. Where are you located. I heard a reference to Eastern North Carolina one time I live in the Morehead City area . You can't be too close with all the red mud. I'm retired and broke my femur 4 months ago. Just begenning to drive and get out on my own. So I spend a lot of time in front of the TV and with computer in lap. Keep it up
We need a equipment tour and what machinery you like more then others!
Watching you operate that track whole. you make it look so easy. Knowing there’s lot of hours put in operating. to make it that simple.
Hello CHUCK NORRIS just called and said ....”All you whiners need to get a grip.....the sound is fine.”
I'd suggest that Chuck Norris being nearly 80 years young,.doesn't have the slightest care or concern if we can hear the higher pitched sound of the equipment,..or not! LOL!

I like the machine sounds that's what makes your shows
Your camera quality is great I can hear u just fine I like being able to hear the equipment
I can hear you yakkin away just fine. A little diesel noise is awesome anyway.
I like the equipment noises. It’s awesome.
Nice to see a longer vid , thanks for sharing :)
Great video! Thanks for sharing! Stay Safe!
I love the noise of the the equipment. I fall asleep nightly to the calming sounds of your excavators lol. You are a highly skilled operator, thanks for putting us in the operators chair. Really appreciate your videos.
Really Chris the hum of the Volvo sounds pretty darn nice, I hear you just fine.
Love the sound of the equipment!
Nice one audio much better, either from settings or relocation. Background engine noise is still there but for once we can hear your manly tones, Thank you.
It’s fun hearing the growl from the haul truck
Watching an excavator video and complaining about the machine noise.... Now, that's priceless! Love the videos! Don't change a thing!
That concrete is like water! Looks good in the bucket but pours out like weak tea.

I totally agree with Timmy, the background sounds greatly add to the atmosphere of your videos... great work.. great channel... stay safe Chris
Chris, I wish you had some video of you operating the Armstrong shovel!
Chris, for the sound, it seems to "auto gain"; so when you don't speak for a moment it will automatically increase the sound recording volume, making the machine seem louder. That fella with the transit rod has kinards of steel being so close to that live boom.
You need to have kinards when you are wearing desert camouflage as well 🙄
That surveying guy (tim) was wearing the perfect camouflage for some stealth measuring in front of a working Digger !! Hi-vis vest about 5 quid/dollars mate !!
Great video Chris
Just trying to help.

Rather have equipment sound in back ground than boring music. Keep up good work Chris
As a retired industrial machine tools electrician I love the sound of hydraulic motors and syliders going back and forth. Steve in Thailand.
I have no problem hearing U with the back ground sound. Great recording
Love the natural sound don’t change can hear u just fine
I like the equipment noises. And u can always restore to factory settings.

It’s fine, we can hear you fine, what good would it be watching this kind of work without hearing your equipment ? It would be boring, keep up the good work.
Would a plug in mike attached to your shirt help with outside noise. Keep the videos coming..
Chris,
Most young boys grew up playing with plastic soldiers and related paraphernalia. I'll bet you grow up with Tonka Trucks, loaders, dozers, etc. I can tell your just an older fella that loves his life-size toys. You still make the same noises you probably made as a kid. Watching these videos is pure nostalgia. The first thing I ever drove was a skid steer. Not to brag but my father was Einstein with a skid steer. I sure mis N.C.
Idk but the Machines engine noise is so relaxing an soothing to me🤷🏼♂️ don’t know why but it reminds me when I ran a skid steer at 6 by myself
It’s going to take you a long time to fill that pond with the bucket 🤣
I TOTALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO CHRIS 😊
I love your longer videos , your sound is great it does come in and out but I can here you fine , you have a Merry Christmas .
Does the state help pay for the ponds for water off the roads ? Did some of this in Virginia .
Drive by inspection there the best ones
Keep up the good work even if the plans are half blank
But they can't tell you everything you might end up knowing more than them
Love the hum puts me to sleep at nights. Gullywhomper
The sounds are fine , we hear you fine.

The equipment sound vs your voice seems fine today. No worries.
All the regular sounds are fine, it's just the loud truck backup beeps that drive me nuts.
Itsareally cool deal when you have a very good helper that can operate equipment Tim seems like a talented operator
I think you need on of those 'tie clip' mics! The mic in the camera will pick up ALL audio, and you're facing away from the mic's pick up! :-)
That mix your getting sure is soupy
We want to hear the equipment noise! Audio is great
sound is everything makes it real
Try rubber mounting the camera as the sound is being transmitted by the connection.
Sound is usually fine. I only remember 1 or 2 that you were a little quite on. A new video with Chris, yeah, good start on the day!
Anyhow, I have something I been wondering about for a while, why is those wheels hanging in the air behind the concretetruck and what are they for?
We dont have these in Sweden so I have always wondered :)
danne77sthlm They are only lowered when the truck has a load to spread the weight out..
Chris, Enjoy your video's, Curious why you don't use a sheep's foot attachment for compaction..
tune them out, you're.fine! motor working is part of the deal.
Yes do not change it it good to hear everything good job mate

Try putting a foam pad under the gopro. It might be picking up engine vibration.
I love how you use the excavator arm to point with. lol

Don't change the sound of the hydraulic pumps working. I far prefer that over music.
My grandson will be extremely excited in the morning every day he asks me if the dig it guy is on today. So tomorrow morning he will in his glory. Thank you, you always make his day with your videos

Love the videos! But could you possibly film a few different angles like set the camera up ? Feel like it’d be cool
The equipment sound adds to the reality. Yeah, that'll work...lol
Turn on your closed caption, turn the volume down. easy, peasy, great videos, and if a machine doesn't make noise, .....👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Make sure to isolate the frame of the camera from the machine. It sounds like there is a hard surface on the camera touching the machine.
So now I know why it rains so much here in NC. Timmy’s on the bank there drawing a turtle in the sand!! Tell him to stop doing that please!!
I can hear you fine. Machine noise in background shows you are running good. Lol
Sound is great... bucket pins look to be getting a little loose though.. or is that just the shake concrete out feature?
