Hey Angela, Heatwave was one of the hottest groups of the 70's & early 80's who in my opinion didn't get all of the recognition they deserved and Johnny Wilder (R.I.P.) had one of the best voices on the planet!!! I got to see them live, they put on such an amazing show that the crowd didn't know what hit them when they performed!!!
An album cover caught my attention in the 70's, a melting clock. From that came Boogie Nights and Forever. You have my attention, what's next? Blew my mind! Groove line
Most people don't realize that the keyboarder is the musical mastermind "Rod Temperton". He wrote the majority of Michael Jacksons iconic hits of the 80s. In fact he wrote most of Quincy Jones related productions. Look him up....
I've never seen the video to this song . In the 70's , nobody cared what your skin color is . This group is a prime example. Look how much fun everyone is having !
@@mildredpierce4506 I bet you can! When I first started going to clubs, I'd just watch people dance and think I can't dance. But the more I watched folks, the more I realized I can keep the beat, I'm a step ahead of alot of those people already! Finally, I thought, I can't be any worse than most people so, I'm dancing. Go for it, girl!
Two other songs to check out from Heatwave: Always and Forever. There is a short version and long version. Ain't No Half Steppin' is a pretty good song. You may have heard samples of it on other records.
I was a camp counselor with inner city kids ( multicultural)..i was the white one who could groove. My girls were 6/7 and for the talent show we did the cutest dance with flashlights!! After that i was known as Groove girl!- still takes me back..i am an old lady now but this just makes me smile!!!😊😊
Rod Temperton was a genius! He’s written so many huge songs for the music industry’s biggest stars. Heatwave were massively underrated. Take a listen to Gangsters of the Groove.
A very talented group! Their members are a combination of musicians and singers from The UK & The US This is from their LP Too Hot To Handle, and also include Always And Forever! A favorite slow dance tune for many prom goers! Boogie Nights is also on there! Ciao!
Nice! I remember hearing this on the radio when I was a kid. If there's such a thing as classic disco, this song is it -- groovy bass line over a solid beat, funky guitar licks, horn flourishes in just the right spots, and the falsetto in the bridge like icing on the cake. Break out the strobe light and the roller skates! Another great song from 1978 that goes well with this is The O'Jays "Use Ta Be My Girl". "The Groove Line" tastefully quotes KC & The Sunshine Band in a couple of passages. KC & The Sunshine Band dropped "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Get Down Tonight", and "Boogie Shoes" among their other tunes.
late seventies and early eighties greatest era of soul funk ,jazz funk boogie , even though the 90s was my era as i was in my twenties that era of late seventies early eighties was number one
This song never gets old. It was the first 45 rpm record I bought with my own money when I was 9 years old. 😄I understand the band originated in Europe, and some members were in the U.S. Army there. The two lead singers were brothers, with Johnny Wilder (falsetto) being the oldest. A very international group. We're dancing with you, Angela. Thanks for this reaction!
I used to bribe DJs to play this at the clubs. Rod Temperton (the keyboardist) was a genius that not only created Heatwave and wrote most of their music but had his hands in helping a lot of other musicians with their own work.
As much as we all admired Rod temperton and the songs he help write. He did" Not" create Heatwave. Johnnie Wilder Jr .The lead Vocalist did. And he found Rod temperton in the newspapers because he needed a keyboardist. And that's how he found the talented Rod temperton. Johnnie gave Rod temperton that opportunity to write songs for the group. And knew that Rod was a Genius song writer. Rod make it clear that at the end of day he wanted to become a songwriter. And Johnnie knew this so he continue writing songs for them until. The unfortunate accident Johnny had in '79. So rod continued to write some songs for heatwave & other Artists Mostly the talented MJ. So we need to thank Johnnie Wilder for taking a chance on Rod temperton. They remained friends to the end. May they rest in peace ❤🙏🏼
Fell in love with Grove Line again after seeing them live in Manchester, UK earlier this year. They still sound great with new young members added to the band ..go see them if you ever get the chance !
Angela - How many cups do you have anyway? lol A little history on Heatwave. They are from Dayton, Ohio. Rod Temperton was one of the members of this group. He wrote this one as well as Always & Forever and Boogie Nights. He also wrote Rock With You, that Heatwave turned down. He gave it to Michael Jackson and the rest is history. Zapp also was from Dayton, Ohio. Computer Love amongst others they are known for. Roger Troutman was shot and killed by his own family over drugs. Very sad really. Funny enough, Dayton, Ohio is a stone throw away from Columbus, Ohio where I am from. And Columbus does not have any major recording acts coming from it. And Dayton is half the size of Columbus. Nice reaction Angela. The Groove Line is a disco classic.
This song, both short and long versions, the long version is the best!; provided a window of peace, groove, and simple enjoyment of who you were dancing with. It was transfixing, sexy, and such a welcome escape for so many to just enjoy the music, and company. One of my very favourite songs and to this date, imho, unequalled. And I came upon this channel by being a fan of this song, but to the hostess, honestly mercy please.
Always loved this song. The bass line is in your face insane. It was probably many years before I heard it on decent equipment where the bass exploded and I have never heard the song the same way again. Hooah Hooah!
Exactly! Eight skaters in a line, traveling fast, and all doing the “Boogie Shuffle”! Well, most of us were. But the tag-a-longs at the end of the line were giving it their all, so it didn’t matter, everyone was having fun. Great times!
You seemed to like this from start to finish! And, your moves were so fun! I had forgotten about how much I liked this back in the day. It's been added to my playlist on my iphone!
Disco / KC & the sunshine band were playing the same type of music around the same time as them. Late 70's early 80's. The girls love to dance and this type of music filled the bars at that time.
Gurl, everyone in the club was up dancin on this one and the long version was the best! In the Disco era, you had to put out something with that vibe to get recognition and keep relevant. Good choice and chair dancin is always the most fun!🔥

That explains why this song sounds so sophisticated!

Please with that nonsense. Black music didn't become mainstream music til the 90s...
@@RK-um9tu You must be 12 then. Kool and the Gang, Earth, Wind and Fire, TOP, Tavares, War ALL happened in the 70s.

A group of super talented brothers doing what they do best. Color blind here
Heatwave started when I was in high school, and yes, I had the vinyl album.
Yup. We were spoiled musically in the 70s. So much good stuff. Leave you worries behind...
Love that part Leave Your Worries Behind, what a hook!
