From humble beginnings in Cleethorpes UK and replying to an ad in Melody Maker Rod Temperton was to become the keyboardist for Heatwave. The band was made up of American, Swiss, Jamaican, Czech and English musicians, but the group originated in London. Rod Temperton was their principal songwriter and what a guy. He also wrote, Off The Wall, Thriller, Rock With You, Baby Be Mine for Michael Jackson, Give Me The Night, Love X Love for George Benson, Razzamatazz by Quincy Jones, Spice Of Life by Manhattan Transfer, Stomp by Brothers Johnson, and plenty others. An amazing songwriter, sadly no longer with us ❤️

Legend has it, Quincy Jones locked rod temperton in a room and watched him compose as, Quincy Jones couldn't believe how rod came up with so many hit song's.
Family, you picked an excellent group here. They have some solid hits most topped the R&B charts. The writer of most of the groups songs was Rod Temperton. He later wrote some of Michael Jackson's biggest hits like Rock with you, off the wall and Thriller. Peace ✌️

Wow! Taking me back to middle school! The whistful intro and outro give you the feeling of going back in time to those type of parties. The type of conversation you hear in the background as the song ends is spot on to the kind of things you would actually hear. Try "Groove Line", "Always and Forever", and "Mind Blowing Decisions". OMG!! This song just transported me to my 7th grade skating parties! The skating rink was the place for birthday parties and youth group outings! Such a fun time for me! Thank you so much for the reaction! So glad you enjoyed It! ❤❤
One of my favorite bands from that era. ❤ Their song “Always and Forever”(1976) is one of the best love songs of all time. Any fan of this group knows the lyrics including all the notes to the very end. It’s just one of those type of songs🔥🔥🔥
It was a GREAT time. I was a. freshman in college in the fall of 1977 when this was released. I wouldn't change that time frame for anything. You make me smile with your reactions as you appreciate the music of the 70s and 80s
This group is one of my favorite I mean my Favorite Disco/Funk/R & B bands!!!! LoL hahaha....we were COOL,,,,and then we grew up and had families and kids.....and became average. Hahaha
In the 80s you'd have a jheri curl. Their album HeatWave's "Central Heating" is full of cuts, full of range, get to it when you can. Many people got married off of "Always & Forever," grooved to "The Grove Line," were mystified by "The Star of a Story," "Sho Nuff Must Be Love", and "Leavin for a Dream,"omething for everybody.

I’m 60 years old and I still listen to this music. This is the music I grew up with. It never gets old.How can you never have heard of heatwave. Oh don’t forget Earth Wind and Fire.
I was hoping you came to heavtwave but I was hoping it would be "Always and Forever". That is really great song I think and just has such a mellow and soft and easy mode. I've been playing it over and over for the past 3 weeks.
Back in the 70’s there was a few dance moves but most of the time you made up your own dance to the songs . It didn’t matter what you did you just got in the dance floor and shook what your mama gave you
Over the internet I became friends with someone who managed Heatwave back in the 70’s and he spoke highly of Rod Temperton who he said was a musical genius and penned the song Boogie Nights. Temperton went on to write songs for Michael Jackson (Rock With You and Thriller) to name but two also writing for artists such as George Benson, Karen Carpenter, Quincy Jones, Donna Summer and even LL Cool J
In 1978 I went to Spain with my high school Summer School Abroad program. I was 16, there was no drinking age, we were living in a dorm at the University of Salamanca, and going to the disco quite a bit. Heatwave’s Groove Line was a big hit. Also, back then Saturday Night Live was the big movie in Europe. It was released in the US in 1977 but in the old days it usually was released internationally the next year, so 1978 was a good year for disco in Spain. I hope your next Heatwave reaction is Groove Line. Thanks for this reaction.
Thank You for listening to my request 😊 Pair this with Disco Inferno by Trammps, Get Down Tonight by KC and the Sunshine Band, Donna Summer's songs, and a great many others to make the 70s dance party mix! You got that right! I wanted to see you get up and dance ;) Any moves are good for disco. Soul Train has the dances of those times. You gotta see their episodes! Your reaction made me smile 😁
Nice! I had the album Too Hot To Handle, really cool artwork, 😎 great reaction guys! Btw I was jammin to this at age 15! I then saw them live, ten years later, 1985 in the UK when I was in the Air Force 😅😊
I remember having parties at school in the 6th and 7th grade...and we all used to bring our 45's to school and the teacher would play them on the portable record player. This is one of those songs I remember from those days...we pushed our desks back and boogied our butts off!!! Kids today just don't EVEN know how good WE had it back then...and they thought we lived in a boring time with no cell phones and computers and internet and such. We had it BETTER!! Everything was more personal and hands on...real quality time spent with others.
Ah, the 70s, the decade of my childhood! The skating rinks were busy with the old school 4-wheel skates. So many genres of music were popular, and, while everyone had their favorite, you ended up listening to a lot of different types. It was a great time period to grow up.
Their albums deserve a full listen through. Central Heating album is my favorite. Great song writing, harmonies. I feel their best songs never made the radio.
Y'all need to check out Heatwave's "Always and Forever", "Super Soul Sister", "Mind Blowing Decisions" just to name a few. All certified bangers. Many Blessings!!
Mid 70's British Disco .... Along with the likes of Hi-Tension, The Real Thing etc. .... Heatwave were the very best. Bought all their stuff as a kid. Boogie Nights, The Groove Line, Jitterbugging, Too Hot to Handle, Always and Forever, Mind Blowing Decisions etc. .... Yeap, had them all. Pioneers of Disco ❤️
Aside from Boogie Nights (which never failed to get people dancing!), The Groove Line was another good track. But one of, if not their most successful songs was, 'Always & Forever' - which isn't disco - but was definitely one that DJs used to put on at the end of the night for that last smoochy dance for couples. I think you'll love it.
Remember hearing this in my high school cafeteria. It’s funny back then there were clear lines drawn you either were Disco or you were Rock. I never fell under any as I loved music, R&B, Rock an Disco loved to dance but loved going to Rock clubs an watching Twisted Sister or Ramona’s. This song brings back great memories to a time that just seemed uncomplicated it was a great time to live
Now this is a good example of Disco Funk. This was their debut album in 1976 and Boogie nights was a huge hit and stlii is to this day, but also the slow jam from the same album, Always and Forever (which gave us youngsters a chance to get up close to boys/girls we were attracted to on the dance floor without the awkwardness) was really really big as well. They followed that up in 1977 with another big funky hit song "The Grooveline" , one of my faves.... I'm so glad you guys discovered them because they were such a big part of our younger days...Blessings!
I was a teenager when this song came out. It was my boyfriend’s favorite song. As soon as I heard the harp come on I would crack up cause I knew the radio was going to be cranked up and he was already drumming on the steering wheel of the car. Love it.
I guess this generation is not used to hearing built up intros because the intro is so beautiful & the harmonizing alone is epic the transition you don’t hear music like this anymore.
@soonerlilsis not trying to be disrespectful but with most ears today I feel no patience it has to quick to the point with the melody yes when it comes songs to dance to that's usually the case to get you dancing
Same with movies. Kids can't let a movie build. They want explosions right away. I heard actor Ralph Fiennes say a movie like The English Patient couldn't be made today. That movie is not that old. But that's how much things have changed.
You'll like "Groove Line", because it is the same genre, but "Always and Forever" you will both love. The lead singer has a silky-smooth voice, and you will really love his falsetto. You'll want some alone time afterward.
I guess I had it lucky, I grew up in the late 50's, the 60's, the 70's, the 80's the 90's, the 2000's, the 2010's and till now. So I got all the music.
I was a teenager in London when this track was released. What a scorcher of a song for a band called Heatwave. I absolutely loved it and played it all the time. Great pick.
Heatwave was one of my favorite old school groups. Their "Too Hot to Handle" was absolutely outstanding; hit after hit. "Always and Forever" is one of their big hits and an altime wedding song. "Grooveline" was one of my favorites.
Groove Line is really good too. There were no real dance moves in the 70s. You just feel the music, like Jordan does. You two will love Shame by Evelyn Champagne King
If you want to see the moves from back in the day, you should look up the video of this song from Soul Train, you will see some fine dancing to this track!
In the 70's and 80's, it was move like you felt. How do you think "the robot" became a dance? Love you reacting to this kind of music. Keep on jammin'!
RIP to founding members Johnnie Wilder Jr., His brother Keith, and Rod Temperton. Temperton left the band and went on to write hit records for many artists, from The Brothers Johnson to Kool and the Gang and the King of Pop himself. By the way, nobody, and I mean nobody shoulder dancers like Amber👍
I mentioned this on another reaction, and maybe iv'e missed it, but i recommend for one of your movie reactions 'Roll Bounce'. Think you guys, and the kids, would really like it. Love you guys!
They're a VERY deep rabbit hole. "Lay It On Me" "Sho 'Nuff Must Be Love" "Too Hot to Handle" "Star of a Story" "This Night We Fell" "Ain't No Half Stepping" and "Mind Blowing Decisions" just to name a few. 😮😊💛
Heatwave yes! This song was a banger back in the day. They also had one of the most romantic songs ever in my opinion "Always & Forever" There is a live version. The lead singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. is so good that he sounds better in the live version.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Groove Line" and "Always and Forever"!!!

Great cut. Also check out the Groove Line. Rod Temperton wrote most of their cuts (as well as some for Michael Jackson for the Off The Wall album)
I was hoping you came to heavtwave but I was hoping it would be "Always and Forever". That is really great song I think and just has such a mellow and soft and easy mode. I've been playing it over and over for the past 3 weeks.
It has that OFF THE WALL groove line
Oh yeah...one of our favorites! And we were boomers in our thirties. Lot harder now..lmao
This song has always been everything...Listen to Grooveline....Much love to my favorite fellow Sooners......BOOMER!!!!
Don't forget to cover Heatwave - Always and Forever 🎵🎶👍
Back in the 70’s there was a few dance moves but most of the time you made up your own dance to the songs . It didn’t matter what you did you just got in the dance floor and shook what your mama gave you
Grooveline by them is a must. 😁
I Remember being a kid and roller skating to this song..
Jay be feeling it!!! Love you guy's enthusiasm!! The dances we did were The Bus Stop, Bump, Hustle, Errol Flynn, Four Corners ...
This is what us grown folks when were young did on a Friday /Saturday night dancing till the early morning light OLD SKOOL!!! 4:55
Gorgeous couple that understands good music🤍
Too Hot To Handle was one of my first albums!! I used to play that to death.
Me three
Yes! The melting album. 💛
If this song came on I had to hit the skate floor. I was a child of the 70's and there was a lot of great music.
"Always and Forever" by Heatwave is one of the best love songs ever written. ps for Jay, at the end he shows a gorgeous falsetto.
Love it.
I guess this generation is not used to hearing built up intros because the intro is so beautiful & the harmonizing alone is epic the transition you don’t hear music like this anymore.
they aren't used to good music either😂😂😂😂😂 true facts
@soonerlilsis not trying to be disrespectful but with most ears today I feel no patience it has to quick to the point with the melody yes when it comes songs to dance to that's usually the case to get you dancing
Same with movies. Kids can't let a movie build. They want explosions right away. I heard actor Ralph Fiennes say a movie like The English Patient couldn't be made today. That movie is not that old. But that's how much things have changed.
@@blackblake3658 haha so true…..LOL don’t have the patience to hear the story
Facts!
Disco, lives in the Summer of 2023👍
You'll like "Groove Line", because it is the same genre, but "Always and Forever" you will both love.
This song is Dope! I remember roller booging to this song as a kid! So fun and so cool!
I love seeing a younger generation gettinto my generation of music ....cuz our shit was badass!!
"Groove Line" "Always and Forever" "Mind Blowing Decisions" "Ain't No Half-Steppin."
Speaking of "Make Somebody Smile",, This MUST HEAR Classic will do just that,,
Wet Willie "Keep On Smilin'"..TRUST ME!!
Check out McFadden & Whitehead -Ain’t No Stopping Us Now. (Soul Train performance).
I remember buying this on 7 inch back then, my first ever vinyl and I've been dancing to it ever since.
Keep on jammin'!
you can't help but move to this and "The Groove Line" and their slow jam "Always and Forever"
Heatwave is awesome and have alot of great songs!!!
The Hustle. The Bump. The Funky Chicken. The Robot (Michael Jackson's is the best you'll see, btw). Just some of the iconic dances of the 70s.
A Taste of Honey, boogie oogie oogie. Great song for female Friday. 👍🏽
I'm having a flashback!! Great times, great music!! 60s-70s was the best time to grow up! I have to say, we were the coolest! ❤️
Ooooo weeee ... a whole party just with Heatwave. Dancing, slow dancing, all of it!
Gotta keep on dancing, feel that boogie beat, everyone up on their feet, get that boogie fever. ✌️
Heatwave yes! This song was a banger back in the day. They also had one of the most romantic songs ever in my opinion "Always & Forever" There is a live version. The lead singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. is so good that he sounds better in the live version.
When Heatwave hooked up with Rod Templeton the magic began, what a great sound ❤🇬🇧
Rod was the man!
