I bought my 1997 honda accord 21 years ago and is still driving it..I had my transmission flushed once, only 2 tune ups, rotors replaced 3 times, and $700 engine work done once!
The thermostats are the one achilles heel in these bulletproof motors.Change it and it should warm up within a few minutes so the needle is sitting just under halfway.Freakin LOVE these cars!!Have owned 4 of them.
I owned one of these for 7 years. Halfway through high school until I graduated college. Drove it about 120,000 miles, and sold it last year with 230,000. Still ran perfectly; I miss it every day. Currently looking for an '06 or '07.
Best things about this car: 1.) At top trim you can get a 5 Speed manual with power adjustable leather seats, leather wrapped wheel, sunroof, cruise control, and alloy wheels 2.) Good old Honda double wishbone suspension, independent rear suspension. 3.) Soft touch material all around the cabin, door sides and headliner is nice. 4.) Stock speakers are still pretty decent with an aftermarket head unit, even playing EDM music.
I came for the nostalgia, as this accord chassis, generation, and engine will forever will be my favorite out of all cars. RIP family LX Accord 1997-2015 We forgot to insure it 😭
To admit, I sort of cried when I heard it start up. That sound makes me long for my early childhood. I feel that I cannot resist the urge to search the VIN and retrieve it from salvage.
I have the 5 speed manual with the 2.2 vtec 😅 Has 256k miles and just passed smog the other day as well as got its Honda certification by passing inspections
The shift shock of the automatics mean that they weren't using the same clutch packs as the 1998 and onward. The pre-1998 automatics were pretty bullet proof despite the jarring shifts, whilst 1998 and onward were famous for transmission failure (1998-2002, 2003-2004 Accords)
Very nice! I had a 97 Exl V6 with the 2.7 Acura Legend engine. LOVED that car, and still miss it today. Built very strong and sturdy. Quality was unreal.
The F22B1 engine Accords with VTEC are much more fun to drive (especially with MT) than the standard F22B2 ones. Also they don't have the oil leak in the spark plug well problem.
I wish they still made Hondas like this, I'd buy a brand new CB7 1990-1993 or 1994-1997 CD5 Accord over a modern one anyday. Basic comfort, mechanical simplicity and driving feel win in my book over the excessively computerized cars of today.
got the same exact car except white. its been beaten up a little bit around the handles and has been broken into. its still a great car all around. the only modifications that have been made are the sound system and a cool air intake to get a bit more pep. surprisingly my accord only gets around 25-28 mpg.
My accord's transmission is definitely going. The transmission is slipping all of a sudden, and it still won't shift at all sometimes. Sometimes it will just stay in first. Last, it stalled on me on the highway. It just shut off. This all started happening about last week i think. But at least i may be getting my aunts 03 infiniti qx4 with 45XXX miles on it.
SeverdSeouL These actually have VERY good mileage. In the final years of our accord, we drove it from Chattanooga to Atlanta (2 hour drive) on a full tank, and the fuel meter did not budge. It was an LX with an automatic transmission fyi.
the engine on the 1994-1997 Honda Accord Engine 1.8 L F18B I4 (CD3) 2.0 L F20B I4 (CD4) 2.2 L F22A3 I4 (CD2) 2.2 L F22B I4 (CD5, CD7) 2.2 L F22B1 I4 (CD5, CD7) 2.2 L F22B2 I4 (CD5, CD7) 2.2 L H22A I4 (CD6, CD8, CF2) 2.7 L C27A4 V6 (CE6)
the 1994-1997 Honda Accord was assembled in Marysville, Ohio, USA (Marysville Auto Plant) Santa Rosa City, Laguna, Philippines Sayama, Japan Jalisco, Mexico (Honda De México) Nelson, New Zealand (Honda New Zealand)
Worst things about this car: 1.) Front brakes: Hub over rotor design where the wheel bearing needs to be separated to change the rotors 2.) Fuel Filter: Location, it's pain in the ass to change 3.) Classic Honda rough idle problems, bad IACV. 4.) Power steering rack is also famous for leaking 5.) Cheap trunk hinges on the 96-97 models
@bluebirdgmc83 haha yeah I remember reading about that color in a 93 Accord brochure I have. And thanks! I'm super excited for the 2012 CR-Vs to start coming in, and you can bet your ass a video will be up as soon as i get my hands on it lol
I found one of these for $2700 at a dealership by my house! Light blue 5 speed manual model I was so excited until I went to look at it and realized it was sooooo riced out! Those ugly cheap looking tailights and a fart cannon just tons of tasteless mods! Poor car if it hadn't been clearly abused I would have probably tried to buy it :(

I bought mine in 1997. My first car. Black with sun roof. Unfortunately I wrecked it about 5 years later.

Thanks for doing this,especially in the cold! =) I found a cheap, clean, and fully-loaded '96 EX I'm thinking about getting as a commuter/gas saver.

To admit, I sort of cried when I heard it start up. That sound makes me long for my early childhood. I feel that I cannot resist the urge to search the VIN and retrieve it from salvage.
I miss our accord more just seeing all of these features and hearing these sounds. This brings such extreme nostalgia.
I bought mine brand new in 1997. LX in black. Miss that car. The sound is definitely nostalgic. I wrecked her in 2002. Miss that car.
I have the 5 speed manual with the 2.2 vtec 😅

but when turbo the f22b2 performs way better than the vtec one do the research
I have a b2 and it has this leak lol

Our old Family car was the 1994 EX model, in silver. I think we ought to regret upgrading to the 08 Camry base model :
The exterior color is called Bordeau Red Pearl

1997 Accord EXL 5 Speed here, I love it so much! (Except the gas mileage :X)

needs maintenance the little yellow light suppose to be green.
The color is called burgundy
only the driver side has power height adjustables, i got one right now at 268k! runs perfect
nice review...i've got a 95 ex 2dr 5spd...great car. 164k miles runs like new
don't forget the fact that they cheaped out on the trunk hinges on the 96-97's
Also ABS was an option on LX's with Automatics on this gen
i have one to its dark purple ex :) i love it
compact cars at its finest
Yeah, I agree, an EX MT would be sweet!
The color is Bordeaux Red. I have a 95 coupe the same color.
I had a 1997 accord EX in Heather misty mist and tan int. It died at 198,000 miles
@mydsmber05
oh yes, the 94-95 had the trunk struts, my sisters old 93 civic had those too
extra points for still having original "functioning" radio

Getting a green ex-l 5 speed this week!!!!!
Although I think the 1998 version was better looking outside. Lol it is nicer then the first generation model.
If only Honda would make innovative and best in class vehicles today. Honda needs to listen to their fans and get their heads out of an ass.
@thecarexpert21 Yikes. Sorry to hear that!

My dad has an ex with the 5 speed manual
@thecarexpert21 Well how many miles are on your accord?
Worst things about this car:
1.) Front brakes: Hub over rotor design where the wheel bearing needs to be separated to change the rotors
2.) Fuel Filter: Location, it's pain in the ass to change
3.) Classic Honda rough idle problems, bad IACV.
4.) Power steering rack is also famous for leaking

looks great!
Isn't that color San Marino Red?
Mother had a 94 in that color.
@bluebirdgmc83
haha yeah I remember reading about that color in a 93 Accord brochure I have. And thanks! I'm super excited for the 2012 CR-Vs to start coming in, and you can bet your ass a video will be up as soon as i get my hands on it lol
Does a 95 have powerd seats
What's bad is that its easily stolen,I have one and they stole it three times already and they left it crashed
Alex Carrillo Sad story. at least our accord had a peaceful ending. Minor accident, towed away to the salvage yard.
112k is not really low 30k is, my 72 charger has 80k original miles
I found one of these for $2700 at a dealership by my house! Light blue 5 speed manual model I was so excited until I went to look at it and realized it was sooooo riced out! Those ugly cheap looking tailights and a fart cannon just tons of tasteless mods! Poor car if it hadn't been clearly abused I would have probably tried to buy it :(
my next-door neighbor has one but has a lot wrong with it
$6000 is too much for this car especially a 97 i got mines for $2400 and it has 110,000 miles
I seen a 97 honda accord 127k milles for $1, 200 cash on Craigslist
6000 what
@corvettekid224
aw I kind of miss the V6 in that car but I wouldnt want to be paying for the gas lol
Ah that sucks R.I.P Honda accord ex for the Guy at the bottom
@xoquixxoqafxo my dad is currently leasing one I think
The LX's don't have anti-lock brakes!? What kind of shit is that!
Doug Davis Funny my folks had 92 Accord with ABS so I assumed ABS was standard...well it wasnt...learned to pump the breaks real quick lol.
@SubieSean 67,000
I have an lx of with a five speed. Not rare.
Uk version of this Is I think better looking
