I love getting books that are annotated by others because it's like watching a tv show with somebody and they're waiting in the pages going "wait till you see THIS part, oh boy"
Like I just realized while watching this that since I keep forgetting characters while reading I can just put a tab where they're introduced and that can solve all my problems. Also I love your method for annotating Midnight Sun!
LOL no that's exactly how i do it now and will only do it from now on, color coding just makes me go "idk which color to use here>???" and get frustrated. now i just put colors in and feel satisfied bc its pretty
I really love these videos. Everyone has such a personal way of reading books, and I feel like annotating allows you a glimpse of the type of reader a person is. I personally love the "empty head" annotating method. I just think it's so low-key, yet effective for remembering certain parts. I'm really happy I've found someone else who does the same thing!
Yes exactly!! The method where you just go with the flow and don't even worry is my favorite, for sure. It makes me enjoy the book more, rather than being too analytical about it hahaha
I use a sharpie to write an icon or symbol on the page flag that’ll help me identify what I was feeling/thinking when reading something. Stars for something important in non-fiction, hearts for stuff I love, question make for a question I have about something I read, abbreviations for terms in non-fiction, angry smiley face when something made me angry, etc. I agree that reading for reviewing or using that system of each colour meaning a thing takes all the FUN out of reading!!
I used to annotate books all the time. I remember my friends calling my a monster for messing up the book...like you said it’s your property do what you want with it. I would be chaotic as well and just slap tabs/highlighter/dog ear pages with reckless abandon.
i love annotating, i think it's such a personal experience with books that lets you really leave your mark on them. Those flip throughs are so pleasing. Also, isn't a marked up book just so beautiful?
😟 ur really my fave person ever rid lfkasgajsg I love annotating honestly, do it and then see if you like the chaos "who cares what color I use, I'm here for fun" method, or the color coding system!!
Yeah my annotation style is very much "oooh I liked this," *pops on sticky tab.* When I started annotating I tried to match the sticky tabs to the color of the book cover.
I've been considering annotating but as you said it has to be in a way that's still enjoyable and fun! Otherwise it'll kill all the joy of the book! (But I'm very interested in the Bone Season now)
That's why my favorite way to annotate is to just look at it for fun!! I really wish I could do the cool color coding people do but it just makes me over analyze everything and go "uh which color...fits for this". So I just slap a tab and go LOL (Also Bone Season was very good, from what I read!)
@@ShipwreckedLibrary Haha same!!! Any time I've attempted it I'm like i dont have enough colors!!!!! Ahhhhh or just put a post-it that suits the mood 🤔 (good to know!)
Clicked on this so fast!! Awesome video! I love annotating! After trying many different styles I tend to stick to 2 favorites. You make me want to do an annotation video! 🤨 I think I’ll do that! 😁
How did I miss this?! I used to be firmly against annotating books as I thought it was SACRILEGE, but I started doing it recently so brb gonna start doing all of these
Awesome video! When I read The Eye of the World, I tried a color coding system of annotating because it was a big series that I was starting, and I figured that I would want to come back and reference things. It helped once or twice, but I'm reading those books with my boyfriend who's an encyclopedia of TWT knowledge, so it ended up just getting in my way and making it harder to read an already dense series. I think the 3rd book was where I stopped even brining my highlighter along, lol. I'm definitely going to try your version of do-whatever-just-for-fun annotating the next time I reread a favorite book, because that seems like something I would vibe with more.
That's my FAVORITE way to annotate, because instead of reading every line going "what does this mean, what color should I use, what am I thinking rn" I am just reading and going "ooooo i liked this scene, character, moment, writing, etc" and I just stick a tab in there and go. If anything, I feel like it keeps me more engaged just to enjoy the book!
I like to annotate when I'm doing a reread even though I think it would be more fun to look back on books that I've read for the first time and see what I thought. I don't want to make all that effort if I don't end up liking a book though because I don't keep books I don't like. So I just read it the first time. Unless it's nonfiction. I underline the shit out of that the first go round. I will say though that I like the plastic-y page tabs more than paper ones. They hold up better. Paper tabs get bent up and I'm not a fan. 😊
I really loved the beginning of the bone season too!! Touching it made me wanna start again but I still look at it and go >:( just because I wasn't reading for fun I was reading for some imaginary essay I was going to be writing LOL
flip thrus are something i didnt know i needed but THANK YOU bcoz i am also v v nosey - and yes having a specific colour code does not work for me bcoz every book is so different (i p much switch it up for every book i read)
Also I know chaos is just who you are, but that willy-nilly tabbing would give me anxiety 😰 I only annotate for fun, but each book has a solid color code. I have different colors for different emotions because I like knowing at a glance how a book made me feel
Listen LMAO if you look at Midnight Sun there's a solid chunk toward the end that isn't even tabbed bc I was so miserable I just finished without even doing anything just to GET IT OVER WITH. This only makes me interested in seeing you make your own annotated video 👀 I want to be an organized person but whenever I try actually color coding forreal, my brain just goes brrr not fun. Delete. Not fun.

I got an annotated copy of The Illiad before and whoever was writing in that was a COMEDIAN lmao It made reading it soooo much more enjoyable
My friends love to borrow my annotated books they say, "it's like being inside your brain" 😂 Great video!
Omg yes I LOVE IT!! I love reading annotated books!
this is so organized it’s so satisfying could not be me

Oh that's a perfect idea, especially for really long fantasies or series!!
i wish i had an annotating system but mine is literally just "oh i liked this!" and then i tab it LOL
LOL no that's exactly how i do it now and will only do it from now on, color coding just makes me go "idk which color to use here>???" and get frustrated. now i just put colors in and feel satisfied bc its pretty

Omg I LOVE that, the idea of using symbols is so appealing. It's simple quick and easy. And yes! Annotate for fun > critical annotations!!!

I love this! I agree with wanting to see flip throughs and annotated books when i watch annotation videos!
I know, I always get so sad when people don't show enough examples!! Like please just let me look at your highlighting and writing and tabs HAHAHA
Omg I love the annotation for Midnight Sun. Yes Stephenie Meyer sucking moments. 😂😂😂
