Wow! Thanks for such a great review, Mr. Hook! I love noir and stories where time lines are confused, and of course, I love sinister bald men with knives in leather suits, which is why “Dark City” is my favorite movie😂)). But seriously, I love it for its unusual, interesting idea, atmosphere, good plot and wonderful cast. My favorite character is Mr. Hand, Richard O'Brien did a brilliant job in this role! It turned out very bright, and it’s a pity that they didn’t make a battle between Hand and Murdoch) It would have been exciting) Thanks again for your work, the review is super! 🥰
The director's cut is so much better than the theatrical. If you haven't seen it, you really should. It's the version to show people who haven't seen the film at all yet-- it preserves the mystery of the Strangers rather than explaining them via a voiceover at the beginning and contains some cut scenes that make the plot make more sense. The third act is still way too rushed, but in the days before LotR, no one was willing to sit in a theater for more than two hours.
One of my favorite movies! My best friend and I found it one weekend movie night at Blockbuster and fell in love. We still occasionally ask each other if we know the way to Shell Beach.
Great review! At the beginning, John doesn't remember Emma , but she remembers him. At the end, he remembers her, but she doesn't remember him. What a pisser...
I rented this from blockbuster in early 1999 and had to tell all my friends. I don't remember it in the theaters, but I know it did well in the rental category. I liked Rufus Sewell in the lead and wish he had more chances to be the protagonist. It seems he has been the bad guy in movies.
@@HamburgersHorror Knights Tale with Heath Leger, Alan Tudyk, and Paul Bettany would be the one off the top of my head. He plays the pompus swarmy bad guy knight.
I would definitely cover it. I haven't had many, if any, requests for movies before the 60's so I think I'll have to designate a month in 2022 for some true classics
@@HamburgersHorror that's fitting as next year is Nosferatu's 100th anniversary. I would like to hear what you think of it. Your thoughts on its characters, acting and story. There is a lot of quality in the older movies. You could call it the month cinematic classics!
@@HamburgersHorror well the one you don't get to review in that month, You can always put off for another time. I look forward to seeing your choices. In the meantime I'm enjoying the Halloween reviews.
such a good movie. i keep meaning to do an Unanswered Questions on this one. i recommend watching the Director's Cut of this movie. not drastically different, but tweaks a few things that make it much better.
This would be great for Unanswered Questions! What was up with Bumstead's accordion? Why was there a goldfish in the hotel room? Yeah I read it eliminated that early monologue, which basically explains the premise. I think it helped me pick things up quicker, but also detracts from the mystery of it all.
The exposition at the beginning was added after test audiences had trouble following the story. The directors cut eliminates the narration at the beginning and adds a few short scenes. This is one of my favorite films, but I didn’t find this review as useful or interesting as a straight reaction while watching the film would have been. It’s more of a summary with a few critical comments that doesn’t do much, except to spoil the story for those who have not seen it. For someone who has seen it, a reaction video allows the viewer to experience a film that they like along with a new viewer and enjoy their reaction to it. This is just useless to a fan of the film, and, as I said, spoils the story for a potential new viewer.
Man, for me, I have a very short attention span so I don't watch movies and only spoloer videos, out of all the spoiler video for this film this was the best one I foind, and I watched A LOT of them. This makes me want to actually watch it.

Interestingly. The sets would be used in The Matrix movie.

So Oscar Issac was an X-Men the whole time lol
Dark City was/is a phenomenal movie; a perfect blend of Sci-Fi and Film Noir.
Underrated movie. I’m old enough to remember automats.
Well done video!
