    I was thinking of buying mutes but was then told mesh heads would be a better option because of the feel and general rebound. However, I'm really trying to be as money saving as possible so thought about DIY options. Would these have the same feel/rebound issue as store bought rubber mutes?

    Tama has recently started selling some overpriced foam rings (called Soft Sound Rings) that they claim reduce the volume while retaining the tone of the drums. I'm curious if you've tried cutting holes in the middle of these mutes and got some good results? I believe the Tamas are 6mm thick, so the extra weight must be a factor. However I'm skeptical that they reduce the volume, as opposed to just cutting down the overtones like the other typical mutes...

      Never experimented with that actually. But for the cheap materials why not try

      @@VintageJay I think cork would also probably work well for this purpose, I'll give it a shot if I can find some cheap materials thick enough.

    So when you measured out the cardboard, you used the length of the radius instead of the diameter? Because you said the distance should be half of whatever drum we want to use. That part is a bit confusing for me.

      If the Tom is 8 inch basically measure 4 inch rope. Put a pin in the middle and a pen at the end and make a circle

    • @VintageJay
      @VintageJay  3 года назад

      So if the Tom is 8 inch. Get a 4 inch cord. Put a pin on one end and a Pencil at the other then. You then make a complete circle with would be 8 inch and cut it out

    • @VintageJay
      @VintageJay  3 года назад +1

      It will cut down on the sound of your drum alot. You wont drive as much people crazy in the house ;) There are different thickness of those mats so you can go for the thickest ones if you bag hard on the drums

    How about kick?

    • @VintageJay
      @VintageJay  3 года назад

      I did one for the kick. You will probably have to tape it. Or make it narrow and hang it from the top of the kick down to where the kick hammer hits

    How do you adhere it to the bass drum, masking tape?

    • @VintageJay
      @VintageJay  3 года назад +4

      You could use tape but the pad should be lower than the drum rim which should keep it from falling. You can use tape to secure it if yours seem to fall out. Stay Blessed
