What a beautiful machine. Great work.

Quick observations I have 2 of these, the fan should be sucking air from inside the case and out the back of the PSU, it draws the air in from the holes in the back plate of the card bay. Some came from the factory with the fan reversed. If you remove the bar above the daughter board there is a slot on the top of the daughter board to route the hdd ribbon cable. With the berg extension power cable I route it around the back of the DB to reach the slots. Cheers!

I think I mention in this video, or possibly an earlier one in this same series that the slot in the riser card exists, for routing cables, as you say. Regarding the fan, Im not sure WHICH way I put it now. I guess it might make sense to have it sucking air OUT through the PSU. Ill have to check the case again, but, Im not sure you know that it has any other vents to allow for airflow...
Im not a fan of the case design TBH. I mean it LOOKS good from the front, but for example, the top case, does not actually slide on correctly on its right hand side, UNLESS you remove the mouse port lock nut, closest to the front of the case. I attended a meet, and noticed an A4000 there had the left side not fitting correctly. User tried to fit it on, it was not happening. I remove that nut, and it now slit right on.

@@RetronautTech I got caught out with the bent tabs as well once i bent the tabs in to be parallel with the case it was much easier. I found if i flex the LHS out a bit from the back the lid goes in with no probs.

the correct commodore orientation is so that the airflow is blown / exhausted outside -... great series btw, thoroughly enjoyed it. Apparently commodore manufacturer for PSU did install the fans either way - you do you!

Yes, I THINK it can work either way. My feeling was, get air INTO the case, create positive pressure, and THEN get the warm air in the case, to leak out through whatever vents that are present. TBH, maybe a 68040 should have a fan on it. But the PSU fan is doing a job right now IMHO, its debatable as to if the CPU should have its own fan as well...@@Koolvin

Not only stressful watching you do the teardown/reassembly, but PTSD inducing as I'm part way through the same process, and have to emphasize the mental discipline to not rip and pull things as they fight you going in and out on this dinosaur. The video card insertion is a nightmare. I still have to remove the drive tray to get an A3660 'rev1.1' card in and dreading it. But hopefully worth it in the end! (Anyone have any experience with latest rev ZZ9000 card in these? Mine won't get recognized despite herculean cleaning and software tweaking efforts).

Oh, don't tell me. Its currently a bit broken, as I went for gold and put a SCSI CD-Rom in. The drive required me taking the machine totally apart AGAIN, just to get it in. And then when I put it all back together a fault developed in the riser card. This means the Fastlane Z3 SCSI card now will not work (watch in future video) and so it cannot boot.
For now... But the key with these situations is, DON'T PANIC.
I have put it aside, so I can work on other videos for the channel, otherwise it would become the A4000 repair channel :). Ill get there eventually, and I aim to have a ZZ9000 in it by years end.
Good luck with your own A4000, email me if you wish to discuss ;)

@@RetronautTech thankyou for the help! does that include psychotherapy ? haha, but having a riser card problem may be my ZZ card problem also, so new daughterboard on way. Watching your process is zen like at least in that others have journeyed here before.

@@drphilxr Putting the riser in, out, in, during assembly/disassembly is mechanically stressing. Even more so putting cards in and out of it. So, its either my Fastlane Z3 that developed a fault, OR the riser. That investigation is for another day. Problem is I don't have a known good OTHER Zorro card to test with.
I'm going to wait until I have a better bench situation setup, before I try and fix it. Plenty of other things to do in meantime...

Might I suggest that you not have metal pieces, like the back plate, able to move around inside the machine, because it will more than likely short across something important. I also put electrical tape over all unused power cable connector ends to cover the open holes as well, just to play it safe.

Yes, your right, I was waiting for a molex power extender to arrive, as without it I could not get the backplate into the slot it was intended to fit into. That extender arrived, and the backplate is now secured into one of the rear expansion ports as planned. All shorts avoided :)

there is NO riser card in an amiga 4000 it's a daughter board and i'm preaty sure you won't get the floppy to work since you didn't connect the power to it, at least not in the video

Here is the definition of what a riser card is, from Wikipedia "A riser card is a printed circuit board that gives a computer motherboard the option for additional expansion cards to be added to the computer" and I did apply power to the drives at a later point.
