Those marble baths, spa and wonderful ceilings are beautiful. It’s so important to keep the traditions alive, the thermal waters, could ( should) if financially valuable, used in winter, for a district heating system, in the nearby villages and businesses.free heating. Just a thought. 👍🏼
There are other spas in Bagni di Lucca with beautiful marble baths. Another historical spa, Bagno alla Villa is opening now and we hope to be able to visit when possible. In the Bagno Bernabò they use the hot thermal water also for heating, making the place very comfortable in the winter. Bagni di Lucca is a vast complex of historical thermal waters and if investments are found (against all the red tape!) the result could be something extraordinary also from the point of view of free energy.
Years ago when I arrived for the first time in Bagni I did not realise that the name referred to the whole Comune with its many frazioni and so spent ages trying to come to terms with the fact that I lived in Bagni di Lucca but was some distance away from the valley in Frazione Pieve di Controne. Friends visiting were told to make for Pieve ... Thank you for the video on the baths which it is good to see are operating. I have only been once many years ago and maybe not at the Bernabo as I cannot remember (was there another?) and had a sort of natural steam bath and was then wrapped in towels by attendants and put on to a bed and told to lie still for half an hour to gradually cool down. The whole experience harked back to the idea of the Roman bath experience, at least in part, and knowing that the Romans had used the same waters made it particularly special. Recommended. The melanzane dish will be next on my list and tomorrow I shall source the vegetable and mint and make it although there will be alas no lines as the griddle departed the kitchen a move or two ago. Thank you for the recipe and method.
At the moment the terme are still closed waiting for a new operator. They also require a massive investment because the entire complex is vast. The steamy grotto you visited is there and is the one where the Romans used to go including Cesar who might have visited it in 55 bc after the Conference of Luca. No sources to quote, probably a long lasting gossip. Actually we don't get the pretty lines when we grill the melanzane in the oven but the result is the same. Hope you got our email.
Great video. It’s good to see inside and to know that at least one of the baths is now open. As you know there are others which were renovated but never opened.
Ciao Celia ed Enzo! I finally have time to comment as it’s the queen’s bd long weekend (in most states & territories of Oz...). I’ve watched all your vlogs and enjoy your yt channel (except for the sound quality - you lovely people need a couple of microphones 😉) My family & I have been fortunate enough to have stayed in both Naples & the old town of Lucca - but we did not venture beyond it’s walls, so I watch with great interest and with a deep longing to return. My husband, my 22 yr old son & 18 yr old daughter benefit greatly from your cooking demonstrations except that I try & cook seasonally so I’m always 6 months ahead or behind - depending on which way you look at it 🙃 Having said that I’m sure I can source the ingredients for today’s recipe 😋 Grazie mille for sharing all that you do. ☮️💟
Thank you for this share. I will be in Lucca for 9 days in May and plan on this for my birthday gift to myself🎉. So pleased to find it online and book a treatment. Thank you again! ❤
I love this little spa. Unlike many Spas these waters are genuine medical waters. This particular establishment is for skin and Rheumatic joints. The Marble baths are so beautiful and the fact that is small and intimate makes it very special for me. The staff are all very professional and well trained. Enjoy your day.
Wonderful videos as always 😊! Thank you for sharing ! I must try your aubergine Recipe but it’s difficult finding fresh mint here in Norway so I will try with parsley😊 Wishing you a lovely week!
Interesting that mint is difficult to find in Norway, We learn so much from with this community. Thank you for your comment, the recipe works beautifully with parsley as well.

You two seem like such nice people.
Thank you.

Ciao Franny, thank you so much for your lovely words . We do indeed need microphones and they are top of our wish list when it is possible.

Bellissime le terme❤️
Sono veramente una "grande bellezza"
Going to try the Mint with the melanzana, usually use parsley with the oil and balsamic but that seems nicer for flavour.
Mint and Melanzane are a very good combination, in my opinion better than basil.
