    I am currently writing a vampire book which is about souls and their forms and energy. I have connected some clichés to this concept but also ditched most. And thank you for the tips.

    The sun has no effect on Dracula in the novel or on folklore vampires. That's a movie trope. I would advise writers to read the explanation about the powers of vampires that Van Helsing gives in the Stoker novel. There are many traits that movies haven't explored. The folklore is also very rich and most fiction doesn't use it in depth. Dracula is both a vampire and a werewolf. In the folklore of some countries, werewolves become vampires after death.

      Better yet skip Stoker altogether and look at the strigoi and pricolici that inspired him, or even look at lesser known beasts like the striga bird.

    Thanks for the advice. Like many in the comments, I too am working on a vampire story. I haven't seen a lot of vampire stories set in the medieval period; it's been a struggle without Victorian or even Elizabethian grandeur to find and keep the tone I want. I'm going the fantasy world route, but with a reduced list of sentient creatures, mainly just gothic and folklore inspired ones, werewolves, fey, etc..

      @Heather Clawson. I probably would too. That and also if Lovecraft made DBZ so the saiyans are actually eldritch gods and the humans using ki probably just have eldritch blessings from the saiyans. Frieza would be a lovecraftian lizard god that killed most of the lovecraftian monkey gods. LovecraftianGoku still turns into a lovecraftian version of super saiyan but Krillin was already a ghost because human brains normally cannot survive after seeing a lovecraftian monkey god. This time Eldritch Goku is just pissed off at Eldritch Frieza for killing the other saiyans because Goku grew up with the saiyans in this version.

      What are vampires?
      Are they demons of the night?
      Are they humans who just like blood?
      Are they undead?
      Imo, they are the first.
      Vampires are literally the metaphysical representation of aristocratic decadence; they are the darkest, deepest desires of humanity personified.
      They are embodiment of sin.

    This is helping me a lot, I'm thinking about writing a story about a vampire and her human lover, though I've made my vampire severely damaged and verging on downright sadistic with her victims because she's so tired of living like she does, her girlfriend has to come to terms with the fact her romanticised idea of a vampire isn't necessarily true and that vampires aren't some sparkly people that can change their ways, her own girlfriend proves that :3

    I actually had a chapter idea for a story, is that one of the characters figures out one of the main characters, Kage, is a vampire. And this vampire hangs around her crush, Marlo all the time.
    So she makes a plot to kill the vampire fearing that Kage is gonna kill Marlo , not knowing the crush already knows Kage is a vampire. So she’s attempt to kill the vampire with every traditional method but failing miserably each time.
    One way she failed was when Marlo and Kage were eating at the pizza place she works at and the order came out to be a garlic pizza and a cheese pizza. So she pretends to get the order wrong and brings out two garlics but what she didn’t know was that the vampire ordered the garlic pizza and her crush ordered the cheese.
    And it just goes on with her using traditional ways but it either didn’t affect the vampire or Kage already knew how to adapt (like wearing really strong sunscreen so he doesn’t get burned)
    Eventually she confronts Kage in front of Marlo in which
    The conversation goes like
    Marlo replies, “I already knew that. He has the scar to prove it.”
    (He had attacked Kage when they first met in self defense not knowing Kage was harmless)
    “Aren’t you scared the demon is gonna suck your blood?” The girl cowers
    Kage holds up a bottle
    “Kind of pointless to suck blood when you can just buy gummy vitamins. Plus gummies taste better…except grape.” He says, “also vampires and demons are different things. I assumed you knew that since you were trying to kill me all day.”
    “Oh…right…” the girl says ashamed now that she realized the vampire wasn’t a threat, “…well at least I didn’t use a wooden stake. Wait would that even kill you?”
    “I’m pretty sure a wooden stake to the heart would kill anyone,” Kage mentions.

    Have written play adaptations of both DRACULA and CARMILLA. Am now working on an original novella, set in the Regency, which focuses on vampires as expressions of whatever is suppressed--from sociopathic animalism to feminine power. Along the way have taken a rather "alchemical" approach in describing what vampires are. Thanks so much for this video!

    As for the metaphor thing, idk if this still applies to my story but one of my original ideas for my setting was that different Cryptids represented different criminals. Werewolves were Mobsters, Witches were Pedophiles, Zombies are Thugs and Vampires were Serial Killers just as a few examples. Again Idk if this still really applies as I've evolved the story to move away from that metaphor and more into the creatures just being a part of nature. Think a predator/prey dynamic. I even have good Crytpids in the story so I don't think that metaphor even really applies anymore.

  • @ktostam35
    @ktostam35 Год назад +2

    My vampire character doesn't even feed from humans. The only thing from stereotypical stuff he can't stand is garlic but that's bc it stinks bad he can eat it lol. In my interpretation of vamps, they were made by humans who wanted super speed and strength so they experimented but ended up creating a muscle disease that made most senses and muscles stronger and helped healing faster but weakened the heart so vamps had to evolve to get fangs in which there are straws that transport the blood to the heart. The disease can affect someone's heart if the vamps blood mixes with a healthy humans blood (this applies to werewolfs and elfs as well). My vampire isn't evil, has to eat and isn't immortal. He also is a normal age (16-17). He drinks from special plants scientists made and he's pretty shy actually. I think that making your own interpretation of those creatures instead of going with stereotypical twilight like prompt makes the story more creative. Anyways loved the vid.

    I'm planning to make a scifi series based on several aliens stuck on Earth due to the governments well meaning meddling with technology they don't understand. But the main character is from a vampiric subspecies of space fairing humanoid dragons, that is a statement one doesn't expect, and I've made it so that heavy sunlight burns. But I haven't figured out how to explain it in a biological view. Any suggestions please.

    My vampire is a traditional Romanian moroi, so a lot of the traits from this mythology will apply to him. However, I can work on tweaking them and explaining them, and not all of them will apply to him. Also, he isn’t even evil. In fact, he is a very morally considerate vampire and always strives to do the right thing. Could this still work?

  • @zombiedemon1762
    @zombiedemon1762 3 года назад +8

    What if i make my one of my vampires a gentleman and a wild animal? So its similar to a werewolf but not actually a werewolf or even part werewolf. In his normal form or base form he looks human and has kinda normal vampire powers but he can easily transform into basically a furry hulk with more crazy monster or beast like powers. So he has his human like base form and his vampire furry hulk like beast form. He transforms whenever he wants. He does not need blood to survive but the more he drinks the more powerful he becomes and he does not lose power when he stops drinking. In base form he drinks blood but in beast form he can use his entire body like a mouth to just basically eat anyone and anything.

      Also this vampire would not have a sun weakness but something like an angel or anything holy can hurt him just enough to get him pissed off.

    • @zombiedemon1762
      @zombiedemon1762 3 года назад

      He also keeps automatically getting new powers at random times because his body is basically always in some kinda high speed evolution or something.

    • @zombiedemon1762
      @zombiedemon1762 3 года назад

      He can make your blood explode inside your body but only one victim at a time so a huge army of vampire hunters might beat him early in the story but he cannot die so when he escapes there will be a nice little blood bath.

      @@zombiedemon1762 I think these are all good ideas, but I don't know that I'd put them all in one character. That would be A LOT going on. I'd either take one of two of these and develop them, or maybe have multiple characters and divy these characteristics between them.

    So what are the traits of E. C. Hibbs'a vampires. She claims they had some inspiration from real world diseases and mythology. I like when writers make vampires multiple different types of creatures rather than just one. So looking at the Tragic Silence series what are the vampires like. Which of the vampire traits did Emma decide to use? What are there weaknesses, Are they vulnerable to sunlight, garlic, silver or what. Do they shapeshift and hypnotize. Are they infertile. Are the traits inconsistent among the many different types of vampires in the book. For some reason, I can't find a passionate fanbase for Tragic Silence that says what these vampires are like.
