- VN24 - 10-01-2025 (D/M/Y) - Dortmund B1 / Germany - On the B1 federal highway in Dortmund between the Sölde and Aplerbeck junctions there was a serious rear-end collision between two trucks on extremely icy roads on Friday night. First, at around 2:15 a.m., an semitrailer truck with a DAF tractor unit skidded on the icy road and crashed into the right-hand crash barrier within a construction site with four narrow lanes. The tractor unit jackknifed and the semi-trailer slid across the road. A second truck with a SCANIA tractor unit was unable to avoid the transverse obstacle on the slippery road and crashed into the rear of the transverse trailer. The SCANIA veered to the left and pushed the entire mobile concrete safety barrier, which separates the two westbound lanes from the two eastbound lanes, to the left over a length of around 100 meters and into the ditch of the opposite lane. Fortunately, there were no further accidents with oncoming traffic. Both trucks were traveling with identical semi-trailers from the same haulage company. The recovery company was only able to recover the truck, which was wedged in the crash barrier, with the tow truck after a gritting vehicle had melted the ice at the scene of the accident with the appropriate amount of salt. The driver of the SCANIA suffered minor injuries, the driver of the DAF was unhurt. As a lot of oil had leaked at the scene of the accident and the central crash barrier had to be reinstalled, the road closure measures in both directions lasted until midday.
