entp here. if someone ask me how I *feel* about something, I always tell me how I *think* about it. it's not that i don't have personal values, I somehow regard them irrelevant if the situation involves other people. people find me surprisingly helpful, I like to solve problems or giving advice to sb, bit like a mental game for me, taking on someone else's role.
you are right, it's hard for me to tell you what my personal values are, even if I do, they'd come out like a list of contradictions. as for who I am, I don't know. im many things and im nothing. or I can be what the situation need me to be. that's why I find intjs very attractive. their stillness, their focus, their loyalty to themselves, I just don't have those.
it's nice to watch this video on my birthday. thank you.

I think the greatest contribution you've brought to the online Jungian community is the dynamism and relational nature of the functions. Rather than a static notion that Ne is this (in whatever personality constellation) or Si is this, you introduce their relationships with one another. So in that sense it eludes the oversimplification of a cognitive function acting the same way no matter what the stack is (using the cognitive functions as building blocks rather than interrelated substrates). You also avoid the over-complication of Beebe's models which in my estimation rely far too much on ill-defined and archaic archetypes. I appreciate what you're bringing to the discussion, Harry.

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 года назад +15

      Thank you for this :)
Exactly so - my primary aim with CPT was to introduce a long-overdue fluid model to the concept of cognitive type. In order to render a system fluid, the relationships between the functions must be as paramount as the functions themselves - the interrelation that you mention :)
While I respect the Beebe model for its exploration of the unconscious functions, I'm not a huge fan of the system - I actually prefer hard MBTI to this alternative.
      Cheers again!

It’s really funny to me the way you were talking about how an ENTP focuses their attention on the external social world (like what will get us praise or higher social standing) bc it made me realize how I tend to prioritize my assignments for school that I have to present to my class or that which are team projects. Loll my worst nightmare is not having a speech prepared when everyone else does, or letting my peers down for something important, even if I don’t really verbalize that

Holy shit, this... this video is filled to the brim with mental stimulus.
I'm an entp, and I went through a phase in my life where I realized I was comfortable playing devils advocate because I never felt truly attached to anything. I had been masquerading under the title of impartiality, convincing myself that I liked arguing opposite sides because I wanted to give each side a fair chance; that I was championing objectivity. But I came to the sad realization that the true reason I was impartial was because I wasn't actually partial to anything. I thought this was a pitiful state of existence; that I didn't have anything I truly cared about, enough to be biased for their sake.
That led to the next phase of my life, where I've very consciously kept my eyes wide open for potential lifelong partners, and when I found her I practically pounced. As a consequence I've felt at odds with the stereotypical portrayal of entps as marriage fearing peoples, I very much oriented my life goals and my identity around this individual whom I could be biased for.
And yet, as I continue to go through life I've realized that I'm not actually truly impartial, I've only felt impartial, and that I've actually had a set of values beneath the surface all this time. I can count on two hands the moments in tv that move me to tears, but I still don't understand why, or the mechanics of how any of them are able to provoke an emotional response from myself. Random moments can provoke unexpected anger, in one case I was attending a friends wedding, and relatives in the crowd talking through my friend's vows made me so angry I felt I could faint. My mom's emotionalized, off-handed comment made me bristle so much I said something to her that I immediately regretted. Even now I struggle to articulate exactly what provokes my emotions, yet occasionally these strong emotional reactions crop up which I have to scrutinize retroactively to even begin to figure out why.
Other stuff you mentioned too, like the entp being attuned to the external emotional environment, has just been extremely relatable. My family has always laughed at me for how low my tolerance for awkward situations was when watching tv with them. Whenever there was a misunderstanding or any social tension I would often run away and hide in a different room until it was over. At this point I spend almost as much time and energy in my mind, reflecting, and revising my social tools, as I do actually interacting with people. Whether it be figuring out and internalizing appropriate ways to act in situations of social confrontation, or internally verbalizing my ideas and polishing my delivery to serve as conversation pieces to avoid awkward silences, but also to express myself, as I often feel incompetent and uncomfortable if I'm not able to contribute during social situations.
And the uncertainty about my own identity thing, wow. Growing up I've always held a mild disdain for those who chased high grades, and I've always built my identity around special skills or my areas of expertise. Looking back I always had one or two fields serving this purpose, at the time I viewed them as my core pillars of confidence. I finally came to terms with the fact that my core mode of motivation is toward seeking the approval of others, when a 4 month period of isolation during the pandemic stripped me of all my motivation to even pursue what I thought were my core, identity-defining hobbies. I discovered that stripped of their social utility, I couldn't muster any interest in those hobbies.
So much of this stuff is very accurate, I wonder how much of this understanding is by virtue of the mbti 8 functions framework, and how much of this is supplemented by real world experience interacting with the various personalities. Though I am not familiar with all the advanced words you use, I still am a bit averse to the idea that such understanding could arise purely from a theoretical framework.

ENTP empathy is often very stunning because it requires no basis. A lot of people find it alarming and upon slightly closer examination mistake it for insincerity - whereas in reality, ENTPs are very consistent and protective people. As for myself as an INTJ, I've found that a good key to keep in mind when socializing is that it's safe to assume that most people are used to receiving emotional cues from others, and while I'm not one for aligning people in that way, I can often compensate by observing the strengths of others and communicating my process. I find a lot of people can appreciate having an INTJ around!

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 года назад +8

This is a very good analysis - as you say, many people mistake an ENTP's genuine empathy as being disingenuous or masking an ulterior motive, when so often it is expressed for its own sake.
Indeed, I've seldom found an unconscious Fe hinders the INTJ's ability to contribute to a social situation!

    • @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013
      @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013 4 года назад +5

@@Luxmans INTP probably has it harder than anyone except for ISTPs/ISTJs, because with that Inferior Blindspot, they really can't understand emotional cues.
They're always stuck in their head like INFPs and INTJs both, but they can't unconsciously absorb and gather feelings/emotions like an INFP.
Strangely enough, many find that INTPs are adorable robots, and that they blend into situations with more charm and charisma than INTJs, yet this is unconcious.
Having their harmonious personality, INTPs don't have a clue what they're doing in social, they're just themselves.
INTJs have to actually consciously focus on making a persona for society, because they don't fit in, and INTPs just show up as themselves.
They never care about what other people think of them, similar to INTJs, but they come off as just being softer and kinder.
It isn't like any INTP to hold grudges or care about vengeance, they don't make vindictive schemes and plans like INTJs/ENTJs can and sometimes do.
For the Philosopher, they just go back to their normal self/life, soon as they return to the privacy of their own home sanctuary.
Meanwhile, INTJ is stuck dwelling on so many feelings, that just never occur to the INTP, with their blindspot, they have this chameleon effect similar to INFJs.
So, it goes both ways, INTJ has to be more socially adept, because the RBF, makes them look scary and intimidating, with their death glare.
Only ENFPs, and INFJs, seem to love INTJs Death Glare the most, most people get unnerved by it ~
As the INTP doesn't have any death glare, and doesn't pierce your soul like an INFJ, yet, shares our chameleon ability in society, they come off as being more charming.
Their natural charm, and their procrastination (laziness), means that they usually don't have any reason or need to work harder. INTJs have no choice but to work harder.
With their scary eyes and death glare, INTJs project this intimidation aura, their intellect scares people away, and they come off as being unpleasant/robotic/cold.
Even other thinkers think of them as being cold, ISTJ/ENTP/ISTPs don't do this either. INTJs are in their head just like INTPs, and all that Intellect comes at a severe cost.
As the most Introverted of all personality types, INTJs don't spend hardly enough time socially to develop social cues and unconcious body movements.
They're always trying to avoid people, can't stand being with more than 2 or 3 other people at a time, and their blindspot is the same as an INFJs! ~
Without sensory information, they're extremely bad at picking up on the unconcious body language cues automatically, INTPs lack feeling instead, they can pick-up on those cues.
So, the INTP is unconciously picking up on body language, voice tones and inflections, they can feel in a sensory way instead of an emotional feeling way.
They perceieve your anger differently, than what you want to show them. For example, you get angry as an INFJ, the INTP will think that you're being cruel and narcissistic.
Often, INTPs think someone is being selfish and self-centered, when they're trying to discuss facts and feelings, because INTPs don't understand feelings and emotions.
However, they can clearly tell that you're being angry and negative/toxic, so they'll insult you and say that you need to quit being so negative, then they run away.
Running from the conversation, and burying emotions under the carpet, or hiding skeletons in the closet, just to avoid discussions about feelings is the INTP problem.
INTJs go the opposite way, and get overly emotional with expressing their feelings, they're famous for the vocal rants.
As they lack the Sensing with their Inferior blindspot, they can just go on and on when upset, without noticing what the other's around them are projecting energy vibe wise.
Sometimes, they are innocently naive and gullible, easily fooled and manipulated, by people that they really trusted or wanted to trust, because they cared and they didn't.
Other people can take advantage of them, because they're not picking up on the unconcious cue body language, when someone is betraying them or using them.
They can miss important sensory information, that the INTP would pick up on, even though INTJ/INFJs are truthseekers, INTP is a lie detector by feeling these cues out of people.
So, there is just a difference between the INTP missing the emotional and feeling energy vibe information entirely, yet, picking up on sensory environmental cues.
Meanwhile, INTJ picks up on and notices all of the emotional and feeling differences completely differently, and is overly stuck in their heads the entire time! :) ~

    • @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013
      @snowflakestarprincessakiko6013 4 года назад +5

It is pretty incredible how the INTJ has to work so hard, and do things consciously due to lacking that ability to pick up on sensory cues ~
The INTPs have this softer and easier to deal with debating style, similar to the ENTPs, so they get along great with most people.
Never see INTPs bothering to pick fights or anything, but INTJs are extremely highly emotional, and are the most excitable/passionate people of all.
Once you manage to anger an INTJ (which, takes a lot, but any ENTP can eventually do it), you see them completely drop their facade and get into a true debate/rant with you.
The ENTP/INTJ debates are the most remarkable of all, although INTP/ENTP is interesting, the INTJ just thinks about everything in a completely different manner! ~
Is it even possible that there is anyone that an ENTP can't manage to get angry at them? *shrug*. INFJs maybe... yet, even we have triggers.
This is why they're known as the great bully/debaters, you can get anyone into an argument! INTPs are naturally harmonious and hate wasting their Introverted Energy.
Yet, there is nothing that they love more than a good discussion/debate, and ENTP can easily trigger them, on almost anything...
Funny thing is, as an INFJ, I don't really care about receiving emotional cues from people, I understand being similar to INTJ apparently.
Guess that I'm just picking up on the energy that INTJs give off, because we both have the same inferior blindspot function? ~

I'm an ENTP. I spent most of my younger years making quick connections with people. My favourite thing was to make a group interaction more enjoyable for everyone. I used to be good at picking up girls with superficial charm but terrible at making a deep connection even though I feel I am very deep there is a fear there. I get a buzz out of helping other people practically but am not great at being a shoulder to cry on necessarily. I'm best when I am relaxed at a social event but if I'm not I will be a social butterfly and neglect my actual friends to meet new people. Its taken me alot to realise people have there own plans and objectives and they are not necessarily going to join me on mine and in order for this to happen I have to actually get results myself. The shallow side to my personality really bugs me and is something I always feel I need to work on. I feel I have become a better person with age but its meant I don't use that superficial charm to benefit myself. The constant search for new interesting things is exhausting. I sometimes wish I could see the value more of being humble and not thinking I need to perform and impress when I meet someone new.

AH! i was looking forward to this video! This is so true and i really resent the ENTP stereotypes because it paints us as purposefully evil. for a very long time i thought i was an INTJ but a lot of the things didnt make sense to me and i had to then look at functions individually before realising that im an ENTP. Yes, i assess my value as an individual on how useful i can be to society, or especially to the lives of those people im emotionally attached to. i cant commit to something if i do not find any meaning/sense/pragmatic value in it, though over time i have learnt to do the grunt work even if i dont see any value in it because, you have to make a living right? hahaha
i also dont like the label of being argumentative because its not so much that I want to purposefully poke holes in other peoples logic, but more that i want to understand their reasoning and how they came to their conclusions and although it might not appear as such, i am open to having my opinion changed if the argument/logic is strong enough - at least for the most part. but i think because i come across as very opinionated and confident in speech, it might seem that i am just trying to pick fights lmao i promise im not. if i were, my intention would be to totally crush my opponent on every level and that is very mean and immature.
values, and lack of awareness of values is something i only recently started to explore. its rather difficult because i have to think a lot where i would otherwise just be 'whatever' so i have to access Fi through.... Si, i guess? look at past behaviours and assess them. treating myself as if i were my best friend has been an interesting experiment that has also helped a lot. because i tend to forgo my own preferences for the majority vote if it would make everyone happy, by stepping outside of myself and treating myself as one of the people i should consider has made a big difference in helping me understand myself and what i value - even if those preferences are contrary to that of the whole.
thank you for pointing out that ENTPs are often focussed on the emotional needs of those around them at the expense of their own. the problem is we dont even realise we are causing ourselves harm until its a serious problem. since i started to assess myself as i mentioned, i realised that as you say, i have an innate desire to want to help solve other peoples problems by becoming the solution and being what is necessary to right the situation, which i have duly curbed since i find the approach of prompting the individual and setting them on a course towards solving their own problems is far more effective even if it might not be a quick fix. this has actually saved me a lot of personal trauma LOL
LMAO yes to the Ti frameworks. i do feel insecure when someone comes with something completely different that forces me to have to reassess my thought processes. more often than not i just dismiss what i dont agree with and then incorporate what i do agree with but its an uncomfortable process that needs a lot of alone time. it is also extremely difficult to not openly criticize someones 'inferior framework' and when the urge is seriously strong to troll them i just walk away and go do something else because i understand that people are all different and entitled to their own opinions and ideas and there is probably someone out there that could lay waste to my faulty framework too. i really struggle to deal with people who dont think before they act and cause themselves and others unnecessary difficulty/heartache.
100% on replicating skill sets and then innovating on them. once i have the general idea, i try to manipulate the parts until i get the fastest, easiest, most effective result. say for instance i want to bake a cake but i dont have the ingredients i need, how will i alter the recipe to get the closest possible representation of that cake? doesnt always work, but each failure is a learning curve. just the other day i learnt that switching up the order of adding ingredients to make fudge makes toffee instead. same quantities, same ingredients, different order. very interesting.
really loved the video and again i apologise for the essay answer ahahaha

Nah, ENTP and ESTP are both known as bullies for a reason, and playing devil's advocate isn't evil, you love debating.
Most people don't realize that, but ENTPs take all sides, and any side in any argument, because their perspective based thinkers like INFJs.
I really love how ENTPs just want people to think about every single side of an argument, I agree with that.
It is very important for people to respect their "enemy", and realize that no one is good/evil, that everything is a shade of gray, there is no black and white in dabating.
Nothing is evil about any personality type, even the worst ESTPs and ENTPs are just overly Extroverted, Extremely Extroverted, but they aren't evil, just a bit misguided.
Introverts don't usually come out as being "evil", but we still get stereotyped as geeks/nerds/wallflowers/home bodies and Computer/Video Game Obsessed Gamers.
There are numerous stereotypes against us Introverts, so you ENTPs are far from alone! ENFPs are known as bubbly air-heads, and probably get called bimbos.

    Me ENTP. Him INTJ.
We are completely connected on some unknown, illogical and physical level. YET, we disagree on almost every way to get there.
We function the best when we trust each other to just intuitively get it and don’t get bogged down in the details. It gets very hard when we are operating from a place of negativity or fear. Trust yourself as much as the other and this combo is an absolute FORCE.

ENTP here with an INTJ sibling and friend. I do second many other ENTPs observation that INTJs do often come up with the same conclusion using different means. There is no other type I get along with better, although it is hard to say if it is due to compatibility of personality or merely an anecdotal coincidence (if you talk with someone long enough communication gets easier on average, they understand your implicit assumptions and the basic framework you operate upon and vis versa so there is less space for misinterpretation). Communication with them is just the best. It helps me understand my own reasoning better, they always seem to always ask me the right questions. I also don't have to worry about them taking everything I say as a reflection of what I think about them. They accept that sometimes I am just trying to make sense of stuff out loud, that my opinion is not set and help me through the process of making decisions. I love it.
Also out of curiosity xD I notice you pausing in all your video it is weirdly calming although I do wonder why you do it? Are you reading something? The pauses are sometimes edited sometimes they aren't so I can't help but notice. As I said I actually enjoy them for some weird reason (the cadence makes the video asmry) so don't take it as some veiled criticism. I am honestly just intrigued every time.

Heh, the pauses are generally me cutting out the time I pause to think in between each statement. Furthermore, I sometimes say a certain line a few different ways until I feel it is 'right' :)

This is the best explanation, yet seen. We as ENTP's have to improve our framework. Reading a lot and challenging existing frameworks and upgrading on them. Stoicism helps in regard for creatin values which are confirm with our Si and old intrinsic human values. Seeking exellence in human virtue . Biggest problem still the dissociation of my feelings. What do you tihnk i can do about that? Its a burden to feel the need to help others and the whole responsibility it inherits... The constant feeling of procrastination to really change my world and the world as a whole in the process.

I know you didn’t ask for my advice, but as a fellow ENTP, I deeply relate with having difficulty with introverted feeling. The way I’ve been leaning into it is when I feel reactive to a certain emotional situation, I try to lean into, instead of avoid, what I’m actually feeling. I use my extroverted intuition to take me step by step through what I’m actually feeling about the situation, and I sit in the feelings (extremely uncomfortable!) to give them validation and let them communicate to me. It helps when I conceptualize my emotional reactions as tangible beings, needing care and consideration, but I’m really “getting it” when I just sit in the emotions I’m really feeling. If it is anger, I look deeper, since it is easier to feel angry than be vulnerable with hurt or sadness or humiliation or abandonment. I also don’t rationalize the emotion away, but let it sit until it flows away naturally. As I get this practice feeling my own emotions, I find I am getting better at understanding and expressing them in real time (still not amazing at it, but a work in progress).

Oh boy! I was so happy to find an ENTP vs INTJ video but I’m still not sure which one am I. It’s a weird battle between not caring and wanting to stop the search, and an obsession of finding an answer. As a young person I got ENTP and it describes me to the T (whatever that means. English isn’t my first language). Then later in life I got INTJ and that also describes me to the T. I can see exactly what moments I don’t fit one or the other but it’s very hard to pin point what’s stronger. I both love people and live for them, and at the same time I’m constantly disappointed and annoyed by them. I feel their pain then I think it’s pointless and inefficient to do so and I stop caring. People gravitate towards me but I don’t know why as I usually want to solve their ridiculous problems and am blunt to a point they will come to tears yet they stick around. Efficiency is everything for me. Authority and rankings mean zero. I always like to come to my own findings, including scientific. I don’t trust anyone to get things done properly so I’ll conduct my own experiments to come to a conclusion. I’m highly adaptable and “adventurous” but at the same time I rarely come to a surprise as I’ve already thought of any potential scenario. I do feel disconnected, yet I want to help people. Even people I find useless and stupid. What the heck. Which one is it?!

Well that sounds more ENTP than INTJ

    • @jvchee06
      @jvchee06 3 года назад

One way to help figure out between the two is that: INTJ interacting styles is direct while ENTP is indirect.
Therefore an INTJ will say what they mean and mean what they say. This leaving no room for interpretation which can leading to misunderstanding and additional clarification on the INTJ to clear up.
An ENTP will leave what they say upon others to interpret what they mean, aka "beat around the bush". ENTP talk about the topic without ever mentioning the topic itself leaving the possibility of individuals becoming confused about what they're actually talking about. Therefore others will ask the ENTP just what in the world are they talking about? 😂
I found everything you wrote to be very indirect therefore I would make the educated guess that you are more likely an ENTP.
These two types are often mistyped for each other because they are literally the shadows of each other, cognitive speaking. 😁
      The more you know 🎉
I hope this better helps you understand the difference between the two. I'm an INTJ myself, as I stated above what I wrote was very direct and on topic to what I was trying to convey.

    • @NanulSavage
      @NanulSavage 2 года назад

Thank you for that reply. After a long journey, I am very certainly an INTJ. What I wrote there was after watching countless videos and becoming impatient and annoyed as I was spending so much time on something I borderline wanted to consider “stupid” at the time.. I am definitely extremely direct, clear and leave no room for misunderstandings. I also speak with purpose… After learning these it was easy to identify my ENTP friends and see the huge contrast after all. The concepts of the two types can seem similar when studying, but in real world practice they’re day and night I came to think.

He's a fairly reserved person, not especially emotionally expressive, but definitely capable of deep feeling. I sense he'd feel uncomfortable with the word "empath", but he definitely has a quiet respect for other people and their emotions. However, he also has quite a subversive, dry sense of humour, which people either overlook because it's so subtly expressed, or find themselves unexpectedly amused by. I wonder whether it's common for INTJs to possess a slightly dark humour?

I would like to state that it's because dark humor is ironic which is what INTJ love most of all.
Something, events, people, situation, emotion, and all things can be paradoxical at times: something that shouldn't exist but does therefore it's ironic making it funny.
That old saying "it's funny cuz it's true" this right there is how the INTJ humor works.
I personally like to think of it as seeing that possibility that no one else was supposed to see. Ni and Se at its best interpreted by Te and Fi. Giving you the emotional response that you can't explain logically. ❤️

These types are oddly similar. Both somewhat lack a concrete understanding of the emotional realm. They understand the intuitive emotional environment, the INTJ understanding the internal intuitive emotional environment, with the ENTP understanding the external intuitive environment. Both are "mysteries to themselves" but in different ways.

I recognize that "not wanting people to rely on me" in myself too. I like to take a leadership role in a project and boss people around for everyone's benefit. I like being a manager of things like in my first real job I was a product manager leading a team of people in a software development project. I told them what I wanted them to do within the confines of the project, but if they had personal issues, they had their own manager to go to. I didn't have to care about their overall well-being, I only needed to care about their needs as they impacted the project.
But I am hesitant to go for roles like a team leader. A team leader supports the team in doing their everyday work which never ends. The team won't cease to be your responsibility unless they or you change jobs, as there is no project which comes to an end. You as a team leader are forced by the position to care about the team members as full persons and you may have to offer emotional support to them too when the problems are not work-related. Like when my aunt had terminal cancer, my team leader helped me to decide whether to fly home to see her one more time at the very end. I wouldn't have been able to deal with a crying subordinate as well as he did. I can't handle it when I cry, and if other people cry, I am completely clueless as to what to say. All I can do is to give them a hug as all words feel to me either fake (if I try to say something considered emotionally supportive) or too logical and rational (if I try to give advice). But lack of team leader experience is a hindrance in getting to management jobs, so I tend to get kind of stuck on one level in a company and have to change companies to change jobs when I can't stand being stuck anymore.

This is a terrific take on the two of us, the ENTP's and me or us, who are the INTJ's
And Thank You, you have given me the answer to a recurring dream that I have experienced ever since
I was a little fish swimming in the Se, or in my case, the gulf waters of Sarasota.
My recurring and extremly vivid dreams often have included Waves, tidal waves, rolling waves, dark misty scary waves, and comforting waves. The Waves can be fun or exciting but they are always enormous.
I have revisited my beach in my dreams over the years and through my life and
I watch the waves roll in and roll out and not so often anymore are they tidal waves
and sometimes if I am very lucky, I fly over those waves.
For years, I have wondered what the symbology of those waves might mean and I read Carl Jung to
learn what he might think about my dreams. Today when you said "Waves" everything fell into place.
Now, I understand why Dr. Jung believed only the person who has the dreams will know when the symbology is correct. Waves represent Feelings, for me.
My Waves, my dreams of waves and water have occurred during periods of my life when Feelings are
    unavoidable.
Those waves represent the feelings that I suspect most of us, the INTJ's are never quite
entirely comfortable with, good or bad or almost indifferent.
Feelings are complicated and linger too long.

The way you describe an INTJ here sounds like me as a kid... awkward socially and highly introspective. Always reading. Complex internal emotions that I never shared (and those emotions were sometimes misinformed by my own fears... aka thinking someone was laughing at me). But as I’ve aged and had jobs, I’ve definitely developed a ton socially and have developed better rapport building skills (although people still call me scary sometimes).
My husband on the other hand just decided to be catholic again and is going so hardcore into it, he’s going to Latin form masses and prays the rosary every night. He’s online debating catholic issues in forums I didn’t even know existed. He has complex opinions on the pope. I wish this wasn’t the first time he went headfirst into a new identity. 😂🤪

For the longest time I thought I was intj but what finally made me realise I was entp was the preference for use of Ti/Fe over Te/Fi, definitely used internal logic > over external logic, and that math example is spot on. That’s what made me realise Ti> Te. Ti users need to process the logic inside their frameworks while Te, just accepts it intuitively. So if the teacher didn’t explain the logic clearly I would be very confused and ask a million and five questions. For fe, I felt the feelings of others A LOT and wanted to make others feel better, over internal values/feelings. Its funny because Entp have fi polr so while I thought I had Fi I was actually Fi blind 😂. I even thought I was infp for the longest time only to realise I don’t make decisions based on feelings, and the whole time I was thinking I was infp, I thought there was no way Fi was actually making decisions purely based on internal feelings (that actually sounded so alien to me that I thought the FUNCTION DESCRIPTION was wrong.) Anyways, thanks for this vid, it really helped me confirm my doubts about my type as Entp rather than Intj. Also, one last thing is Entps I think can become intj-esque once they are highly stressed e.g. Being very Te efficient etc..

Great video, you’re a smart guy.
What do you think to C.S. Joseph’s cognitive transitions with four sides of the mind?
As a INTJ In my opinion I think he’s bang on with it.
For instance I’m not a funny person naturally, but from learning his theory I’ve been able to activate my ESFP subconscious (I didn’t even know I had it).
First time I ever used it in my life was in a Facebook group a few weeks ago.
As a INTJ I’m very focused on my own future and see what what is possible and am almost obsessed with working towards it.
For instance I spent over 10 months learning marketing and psychology for 16 hours a day before even starting. Because I want to know everything before I do anything.
    But this can hinder me.
I would add that educating yourself kind of screws the INTJ and maybe all personality types.
For instance I myself argue from both point of view now similar to a ENTP.
But I’ve had to learnt this from books because it’s the best way making good decisions and having better judgment.
Most argue from one side without questioning the opposite.
I’ve learnt that this is never a good thing.
Im able to read people well from picking up on their patterns and from things I’ve been learnt in psychology.
But I have a potty mouth and sometimes say things that I think are fine to say, but you I receive a strange look after saying it and only at that point that I realise it.
    Im probably doing in now.

      Hi, cheers!
One thing I respect about the Beebe model (this is the system C.S Joseph uses) is its introduction to the ways in which other functions can be employed alongside different attitudes.
CPT takes this a step further - the idea of there being 4 corners of the mind is based upon the functions in a stack being static in relation to one another. As such, the 4 corners only employs an axis between the dominant and oppositional (inferior, as known by the system in question). CPT recognises an axis between every function - an INTJ would absolutely have an ESFP alt, but they would also have an ESTP, ENFP and ENFJ alt. Reason being - the Fe in this type is more easily concentrated from an Se position, just as Te with an INFJ. This concentration can cause the Se lens to rotate with an Fe codec.
On the topic of lens-codec rotation, many INTJs have a highly developed ISFP side, and vice versa.
Point being - axis exist across the stack, and different situations call for different employments of cognitive functions.
One thing I would stray away from is the use of subconscious and super ego. The former contains more than four functions and would not operate from an Se-dominant perspective until it is conscious, and the latter is a term that in my opinion should never be simplified to a select few cognitive functions. The super-ego would operate across our entire cognitive stack, and tends to be made up of factors superfluous to cognitive type. The term super-ego is more than just a domain of consciousness and I've never fully grasped its misappropriation.

Hmmm you’ve made some interesting points, that also make sense.
I can see what you’re saying about the possible SE and fe transition, but from the stance that a part of SE if sharing experiences with others.
But id add that I can empathise with how someone would feel going after going through a situation.
It’s not the reason for knowing what’s motivating them though.
I didn’t get what you meant with INFJ and TE though. I’ll have another listen to some of you’re past videos.

    You are brilliant.
I'm enjoying + learning from the new structure / perspective you have. If we take the ExTP and IXFJ, which of the two actually prefers to use Ti more? Which type perceives themselves as using Ti more?
If the answer is EXTP, for both i dont understand the benefit or need to order function - NSe Fe Ti SNi - these neither displays correct order or preference, nor does it help users understand the type, ie ENTP wont recognise himself as more of a extroverted feeler than a introverted thinker, imo.
    Am I missing something?

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 года назад +2

There is generally no need to order the functions - at least, not in terms of 'order of preference'.
CPT does not place functions in positions of descending preference, but rather in specific slots relative to the role they are playing. No role is necessarily lesser or weaker than another - they are all essential components of cognition.
In answer to your question, the ISFJ engages Ti more optionally than that of the ENTP, yet also more deliberately and, ofentimes, with greater conscious intensity. With Ti as the ENFP's authority function and the auxiliary to the ISFJ's dominant, it would be incorrect to outright state either type engages the function more or less than the other :)

    • @CognitivePersonality

Not sure if this matters to any readers, but I’d like to add to the devils advocate positions of the ENTP vis-a-vis it’s underlying cause. While I take you point regarding figuring out their own internal feelings because they are generally detached therefrom, I believe there’s more to this pattern in ENTPs.
When positions on anything are being presented there’s a natural tendency to want to know where they are coming from and why. When someone feels deeply about some thing, or holds a strong position on some topic, the natural thing for the ENTP is question it, both to test its logic and to better understand the feelings of the other person apropos the thing of discussion. Whether or not the ENTP is geared toward harmony, flexing or asserting some social dominance, this “debate”-style of questioning can be beneficial, even if it makes others uncomfortable in the moment. The logical and emotional reasons are both interesting and informative, about the other person and the ENTP.
    Thoughts?

      What you say is true.
To me, it's just curiousity and "mechanistic novelty seeking," but because new information is continually referenced against a static Ti framework it can come off as debating or poking holes to people not willing to engage in critical thought discourse. The lack of self-assured and self referenced Fi is just the other side of the coin and should not be taken as a root cause. The entp's conscious preverences cause the blind spot Fi, not the other way around. The devils advocate is an easy way to explain away other's Fi judgments levied at the ENTP.

I find a lot of these points a misunderstanding of how an ENTP really feels. We play devil's advocate to explore new possibilities. 2 + 2 = 4. There is no debate there, it's often a series of explorations to see there are more possibilities, ENTP's are often very open to changing their mind about something once they have been corrected or I should say receive new information about how something works. As far as internal values generally ENTP's pick their values based on information gathered but those values can change given new information. For example say someone committed murder without any new information, while they are guilty right? Now lets say they murdered someone who murdered their wife. Now the picture becomes clearer. ENTP's are absolutely willing to change a value or a direction based on new information once it becomes available. Playing devils advocate is a way to explore new possibilities which are exciting for ENTPs we love talking about idea's it feeds are Ne! You want to upset an ENTP start talking about how things are impossible and shutting down idea's. It doesn't mean that ENTPs don't know what their own values are which is probably true for an immature ENTP or a younger person but as you get older we get more information and our stance becomes far more grounded.

Hey Harry, your videos are very insightful and the most helpful (I have found) in regards to MBTI.
I have a question about this comparison: is it fair to say that the underdeveloped INTJ will find it very easy to maintain an extremely structured, rigid lifestyle? Or
would it be entirely possible for an unhealthy INTJ to mistype as ENTP, due to being stuck in in a loop or grip-function?

    • @CognitivePersonality

The problem is there are so many different ways to be unhealthy. I'm confused as to why you're discussing Ni/Fi as the INTJ's dominant functions....? Fi for me is a very unsophisticated, almost after-thought of a function. I usually have to post-process events, and never really know how I "feel" about things. I'm definitely Ni/Te dominant.
(I know I'm not a mistyped ENTP, because I have almost no Si or Fe to speak of... completely lacking in those functions).

    • @CognitivePersonality
      @CognitivePersonality  4 года назад +1

Cognitive functions do not exist in a vacuum - in CPT a lens function perceives and the codec adjoined to this lens assigns value. As such, while an INTJ of course uses Ti alongside the Ni lens to some degree, the dialogue is from a limbic centre of relation to perceived object (Se-Te).
While Fi doesn't always translate to the consultation of one's emotions, I have yet to find an INTJ who does not know how they feel about something, nor an INTJ who does not have a deep connection to what they personally find meaningful.

@@CognitivePersonality Oh I always know how I feel about something on an immediate, visceral level. For sure. The blindness is more when I project into the future, I often don't know how I *will feel* about something which hasn't yet happened.....? This is a tough one to explain. Anyway, I usually make decisions purely rationally, and find out later how I feel about them. That's what I mean by post-process. I'm also stubborn in this regard, meaning that even if I do know how i'l feel about something, I won't allow that emotion to factor into the decision. I don't "value" that emotional input to the decision making process.

Hi, great video, could I have a question please?
I think I'm an INTJ (I did it in all the tests - I did about 5 of them, but it is true that they are not always objective).
My childhood was always very lonely, I was creative and I loved learning and studying. I had a hard time handling with noise and crowd. I was very intuitive and closed. I still don't understand different social events and traditions. I was never a family type and I was always mainly interested in my career and long-term plans. Sometimes I just do not know how to smile especially in stressful situations
. I have trouble sharing my deep feelings. I've always focused on my feelings and not on other people (seems more like Fi to me).
But at the same time I don't know if some things suit me for intj - now I'm 17 and I think that in the last two years I started to be overcritical and I argue a lot when I see that people are not right or I don't agree with something. People even tell me I'm an argument shooter... (I don't know if it doesn't fit the entp anymore). . I also sometimes have moments when I can open up and become loud (in these situations I may look more like a crazy entp), but it takes me a while. And also when I am nervous I become a little chaotic. So I mean I've learned how to open up in some situations and then I'm not as cold or reserved as INTJs are desribed. What is your opinion please, do you think I'm more of an intj or entp? Thank you.
Btw, sorry for possible grammatical errors - english is not my native language..

But then I slowly became more inward focused and now I‘ve been typed multiply times as INTP and INTJ but my problems just didn‘t seem like -those-. After a week long of obsessive researching I found out that I probably am some kind of weird hybrid since I tried to negate my qualities - I would stop going out of my way to make others feel good; I would mind my own business and not speak up, even though something was wrong. Ofc, if it was very wrong I said a few things but not with the energy I wanted to say it with...

    Personal comment:
As an entp the villain stereotype is laughable and even insulting, and giving us way too much credit. I’ve had experiences w narcissistic personalities of various mbti types and the one thing that always lets them “win” in their encounters w me, is that even when I know they’re malicious and devious, I can’t make myself think from the point of “what would hurt their feelings the most” because I’m always on the side of making things “fair”. And I’m always open to the possibility that they will make a different decision even when I know there’s a 99% probability they won’t. I actually find this very annoying about myself. At times I wish I could turn that off and fight better because I know I could be better at being evil than them… but I can’t. Because of this stupid empathy that even when they backstab me I feel like I have to give them the option to always make a better choice. THATS an Entp. Not some psycho like the joker or Deadpool. It’s because of this stupid empathy I have white knighted for people who didn’t deserve it, for years.
I also think Entps might have been formed because of early abuse or trauma. Why else would they be so worried about how other ppl feel.
