What makes her unqualified is that a standard of excellence has been established by Mariah Carey's voice and vocal technique doing this song.
It has been accepted that Mariah Carey's voical qualities and technique for this song is the ultimate.
Anyone that sings this song in the fashion of Mariah Carey must also have the VOICE of Mariah Carey otherwise they fall short of it's excellence and open themselves up for criticism. I will check with Leona Lewis'performance of this song.
I think this gracious young songstress should have not agreed to doing this song given her voice coming up against Mariah Carey's voice and technique because everyone compared her against Mariah Carey.
You can tell she's really struggling to get the low notes out. No emotion in the low notes because I feel like it would break her concentration and make the low notes sound bad.
She'll a Soprano, of course those low notes are hard for her.

There's is nothing wrong with her performance, we all know she has a great voice, but she went for one of the most famous songs of one of the most famous female artists in history. She destroyed this song when she covered it so everybody has her as the gold standard and 1993 Mariah Carey is the pre Daydream Mariah, her voice was full of raw power and she has a 5 octave vicsl range allowing her to go as low as F2 without sounding drowned in the low airy note. This is a hard song to pull off and do it in front of Mariah is worse because there's no way you can take her version of your mind.

I think i would have been better for her to study the original version first so it would be easier for her to develop her own style of singing it because when your basing it of mariah’s version its hard because Mariah already created her own version and pretty much made its as hard as hard can be.

Dancer21 because that’s the entire point of the show. she may not be a singer, but Nicki has ears & her own opinions just like the rest of the judges. saying nicki can’t judge her because she’s not a singer is like saying mariah can’t judge a rapper because she’s not a rapper. they all give their opinion on all varieties of singers. that’s just how the show is.
