I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea last year, and use the O2 ring and CPAP machine. Love the ring…easy to use and you can set alerts. Tonsils can be a contributing factor. I had no idea I had a problem until my husband told me I stop breathing at night. I thought I was just snoring, but I was actually gasping for air. Prayers for Joe that’s not a problem for him 🙏
I agree about those sleep studies. They expect you to sleep like usual while connected to what seems like a million wires, in a strange bed, in a strange location, and in my case lots of noise (I live in a very quiet location) and at a different elevation. I think the idea of getting a wearable O2 monitor for at night is a great idea. I'm glad you're following your instincts.
I had my tonsils out when I was 23 but I always had a sore throats and strep and tonsillitis and I snored. Well it was worth it for me because I m not sure if I've had a sore throats since and I'm 66. I still snore and have had three sleep studies done in the past twenty years and will probably need to get a c pap machine in the future. As a mom and grandma And a nurse I think your approach with Joe makes prefect sense. I think your family will ultimately make the best decision for Joe and your family.
I get that and am glad it cured those problems for you. Joe never complains about sore throats or shows any sign of having them, which is why I'm so leery about having them removed.
Jennifer, it's not just low oxygen sats that are the problem. It's that they stop breathing. The concern is that his body won't signal his lungs to start breathing. His sleep study will tell you how many time during the night he stops breathing. Our son, who is 35 now, had breathing issues as a child. He was diagnosed with allergy induced asthma. He had the usual childhood sore throats. I felt his tonsils were too large and his airway was compromised. So, I asked his EENT to remove them. That was the best thing! No more problems after that. Something to think about. BTW he did well post-op. Minimal pain. Had steak on day two!
I not usually one to comment, but since having a special needs child myself I’ve noticed what a money making industry pediatric care can be. I hope his levels are good with you monitoring them at home!
WTG go momma. I am so glad you are who the good Lord placed our Joe in the care of. You are special and our Joe would not be as well as he is without you and your wonderful family. Give Joe a hug for me and tell him that his sneaking in saying good morning just made my day. God bless thus sweet family.
I did an at home sleep test. I stopped breathing frequently. I learned that sleep apnea increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. I wear my machine every night. But I respect it is a decision process for everyone.
I agree with you Jennifer & Warren these places are always trying their best to get people on Sleep Apnea machines I hope you don’t do it God Bless, Patricia (Daniel)
I was just about to say this. I have done plenty of sleep lab tests and they were very hard to sleep well. The last one I did was at home and so much easier. No head wires just chest strap and pulse ox finger strap. I would ask for that test to confirm if possible. I don't think insurance would pay for another test though
Jennifer…you will know if Joe has sleep apnea because he will quit breathing…literally, and will jump and jerk when he begins breathing again. My husband has sleep apnea and uses a machine. Now, our son discovered his Dads issue because Hunny stayed with him during the work week and I never noticed it sleeping right beside him and I’m a light sleeper. Now I can tell immediately and his machine gives a report of his sleeping activity and when Jack is stressed or worried he has ALOT of sleep breaks. Also, sleep apnea cause you to want to take alot of naps during the day to the point that you will sit in a chair and before you know it sleep takes over. So yes, Joe being all wired up in a strange place doesn’t give the best reading on his sleep activity. I hope and pray you will listen to your gut and do what you know is best for him. Sometimes Moms know better because we take into account the whole picture while processing the medical fields recommendations. IF Joe is not breathing at different times in the night I am thinking Peter would hear something that is off especially now that Joe is being tested for a variety of sleeping issues. I wish you every success in figuring out Joes latest health concerns but I’m praying for no sleep apnea machine at his young age and no surgeries either. Hope you will keep us posted as much as you are willing to share because I just love watching all things Joe…and yes he is growing and getting more of an adult body so Mom needs to buy him some clothes to fit his growing spurt. I just want to add a special thanks to Warren for being such a proactive cranberry farmer because I would miss cranberries if they become nonexistent!!!:):):)
Hello there beautiful family! I just wanted to say that I am 40yrs old & I had my tonsils & adnoids removed when I was 19yrs old after being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I myself felt so much better! Hi all good morning happy Friday morning and happy weekend and I loved your vlogs and you are amazing Supporter and I'm proud of all of you sending prayers for all of you
I have sleep apnea and recently had an updated sleep study. They now have an "at home" sleep study so that you don't have to be hooked to all of those wires. It's just a little device you slip on your finger and sends signals to a little tiny box that you wear on a velcro belt. The results are the same as the results you get from the "wired" study. You should ask your sleep techician about it.
My sister had the home study done then had to go in for a sleep study. I didn't find the wires a problem. I told my doctor I probably wouldn't be able to sleep so she gave me a sleeping pill.
You both are great parents, great idea . They always said my daughter had a sleeping disorder. She used one of those machines. She was always having sinus infections. She stopped the machine. No more problems all the time. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jennifer....I either read this or heard this recently. It was recommended that for best results, put the dry shampoo on your hair at night and sleep on it. Hope it works for you!
I had a sleep study done last year, and I didn't sleep more than about an hour with all the wires and such. The doctor recommended a CPAP machine on the basis of the study, and it was a big failure. It didn't help at all. I think you're wise to collect more information before you commit to anything. Sometimes I wonder if doctors don't know what to do, so they do anything, whether it's warranted or not.
@@acountrylife My husband had his removed when he was 3 and he gets sick way more than the rest of the family who all still have theirs. Jennifer, go with your gut on this. Good afternoon Joe and famz, it’s been a while, unfortunately we have been sick but I have been watching your vlogs. Take care and stay safe from your kiwiNZ famz❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Have you ever canned your ground venison with taco or other seasoning? I usually do ingredient canning but have recently started canning more meats with seasoning or whole meals even. Game changer!
I’m not trying to be nosy but I would be really interested in what you find out when you monitor his oxygen yourself at home. Doctors are wrong every day and I’m in your camp-I’m all about less is more for the most part when it comes to medical interventions. I had my tonsils and adenoids removed when I was in my younger 20’s & it was so, so painful after the fact. I couldn’t imagine putting a child through all of that unnecessarily-especially a special needs child.
I'm pretty sure that would cause alot of people anxiety, with alot of wires on them while they are trying to sleep, It would me...love your channel and you are a great mom Jennifer .
Another great day in the life. I took a leap of faith and ordered some Tiger Bloom for my annuals. After adding up how much I have spent on plants I could justify the cost to keep them looking pretty throughout the summer. Take care.
How timely, right after I watched this video I saw one of the nightly EWTN news story videos was that Mattel just released a beautiful Barbie with Down Syndrome and the guest they interviewed said they've sold out already! How awesome! I hope they'll get more manufactured in time for Christmas. You've probably already heard about that but just in case you hadn't...
I have sleep apnea and I cannot imagine him using a cpap machine. I have to wear a big, uncomfortable face mask with mine. As others have said, you know your sweet boy best.
Lol, I just watched this on my TV. Now it come up on my phone. To funny 😅 I believe to watch Joe with a monitor is a great idea, before you commit to surgery. You are great parents and you know your child the best. You are an awesome family.
Jennifer, being aware that there is or might be a plroblem is half the battle. Sometimes watchful waiting and a time for discovery is the right course of action. There are other signs of sleep apnea besides just him stopping breathing periodically at night to take in consideration too. Does Joe experience daytime sleepiness and is he requiring naps or does he snore at night? If and when you would decide to go ahead with having his tonsils out please also inquire about his adnoids. Often they can be a culprit to snoring. Your job as his momma is to be cautious and an advocate and this is EXACTLY what you are doing. Getting a second opinion is also a good idea. I just love watching the kids. Peter cracked me up reading those funny birthday cards! I think it is great seeing the kids use their imagination in creating their patio chalk city. I love they remembered to make a church!
Hi Jennifer. Love the chalk city--Maria and Peter are doing a great job. Kind of nice to see something other than hop scotch LOL! Azleigh touching the fish--priceless. Have a blessed day.
My son has very large tonsils. When he was little his pediatrician said they needed to come out because they were so large. We went to an ear, nose, throat specialist, he said that they no longer removed tonsils because of their size. His pediatrician was furious. I went with my gut, we didn't have them removed and changed pediatricians. The risk of surgery was far greater.
I had so many issues surrounding my tonsils growing up, but my mom was too nervous for me to have surgery. So when I turned 18 I got them out and it was a huge relief!
Praying for Joe, melody was talking about being 19 years old when she had hers removed. I was 27 years old when I had mine removed, everyone told me it was going to be horrible on me and I would feel horrible afterwards and it would so hard on me. Well it was not hard on me at all, I was actually up and moving the next day and hardly had any pain at all. So I know you know what is best for him and you use your gut feeling on things concerning him. I will be praying for him and you.
Hi Jennifer! I’m late to this vlog but, I just wanted to let you know our neuro typical daughter had her tonsils out a few years ago, aged 14. It was horrendous for her. She had recurring tonsillitis and maxed out on anti biotics monthly. So having them out was the right option, for her. But the after care was a killer! She slept propped up, for a couple weeks, checked in on her every few hours at night, conveyer belt of pain medication… also the hospital advised that she MUST eat…but if there is any bleeding she would need to come back to hospital overnight for observation. They say the older the child, the more painful the recovery. Our older two are both neuro divergent, adults. It was NOT a fun time!!! I really hope Joe won’t need them out x
Let us know, please, how the oxygen ring works. I think mama knows best. My parents didn’t take us to the doctor unless necessary. I might try this gadget id it works well. I want to se more about the new farm project. It looked like a barn raising! I like “chalk town”!
Jennifer, I can attest to the pain of having your tonsils removed. I was 47 when I had it done. It was a big ouch but solved my problems. I'm praying for you as you make a decision. ❤🙏
So my mother has sleep apnea, it was very clear she had it for years before we knew what it was. She always snored and would fall asleep multiple times a day even if she slept the night. If she doesn't wear her CPAP machine she pretty much can't function for days. My now 12 year old had her tonsils and adenoids removed at 4. Her tonsils were massive from birth and when she had tonsillitis which was every 8 weeks they covered her throat. She also snored every night. If Joe has no symptoms I think your doing the right thing keeping an eye on his oxygen for a while first before making the decision to go with the op. If you do go with the op I just want to say our daughter bounced back really well after it. The only issue we had was on day 7 (which we now know is the roughest day) we thought she was doing so good we wouldn't give her the meds until she needed them, bad idea. We should have carried on giving them to her bang on the hour for the full 2 weeks.
Praying the oximeter will help you with discernment over Joe's situation. My daughter and son both *were* sick a lot with colds, allergies and sore throats. For some reason her doctor never recommended tonsillectomy yet for my son they did. It helped him a lot and having it done around 8 or 9 years old wasn't too hard for him. My daughter had hers taken out just a few years ago in her 30's and it was rough. If Joe does have them removed, it will be easier on him having it done now in his teens than when he's an adult. You are such good parents to be cautious and educating yourselves in all the decisions you make for your family.
I had my tonsils taken out when I was 49.🥺 Younger is definitely better. I have been going through sleep studies trying to get my sleep right. My oxygen is dropping at night even though I'm on supplemental oxygen and a CPAP. My overnight titration study does not match what is going on during my sleep at home. Gathering as much information and advocating for myself to try to find answers. I have two genetic heart conditions, so it is imperative that I get my sleep apnea and oxygen correct. Unfortunately, sleep studies are not black and white. There are so many variables to a person's night of sleep. I think checking Joe's oxygen at night is a good idea. Your doctor can also order an at home overnight pulse oximetry test that provides a lot of info. When I do mine, I definitely have to tape down the device to my finger. Otherwise, I take it off. Keep advocating and you will find the right answers for your situation.❤
Just an FYI, drops in oxygen can happen while sleeping even without o structure sleep apnea. Also, just the structure of his mouth and tongue could cause obstructive issues even with tonsils out. We have had a lot of experience with obstruction issues and I have severe drops in oxygen while sleeping.
Maybe you could get a tv monitor and put it in his room too ? Good idea with oxygen Sat my I failed my first sleep study cause I wasn’t able to sleep with people watching. You could always insist on a home sleep study too many insurance companies will accept those now There are also many new devices to try before a cpap if they want him to do that as well I depends on the severity of his sleep apnea that’s how I make my rice too! Works Every time
I had 2 sleep studies both was different. Both I had to be given high dose sleep meds cause I could not fall asleep. Was given sleep machine I could not sleep with air blowing so hard in my face then said I didn't need it. I do not have that much trust in sleep studies I think they should do more home studies where the person can not comfortable in their home. I am one that already does not sleep well and worse when I sleep away from my own bed.
Poor you and Joe. Hopefully the device you bought works well and you feel like you're headed in the correct direction. Ulta the beauty store has a brand called The Ordinary that is inexpensive but rates high for quality on a lot of beauty sites.i have dry skin and like their retinol with squalane serum for anti aging and moisture. It's under $10. I can't always find it in my store so I've ordered online.
Do you wash your rice before you cook it? Were not big rice eaters but ive seen people talk about wether or not they wash it first because it makes it better if you do. We all love joe and you know Joe best! Do whats best for you guys!❤
My son had sleep studies. I found a doctor said one nite of study will give you nothing right. He said they are nervous and strange place. So he had me keep 2 week long. When he slept, woke up. Did he snore sound level. Talk in his sleep or wiggle. Log times for all. I made a spread sheet and turn it in. I know 20 years later you can do alot on computers. I also check blood pressure and o2 stats all nite off and on. Prayers for mom and son. I live with a child with needs. So understand the no sleep nites. Sometimes ruff days.
I know after the issues of Downs, you don't want to hear another problem but the doctor should have sent Joe home with an overnight pulse oximeter to wear and they would print out exactly how many times he stops breathing and for how long each time to give you an average. Were you not allowed to stay with Joe during his medical sleep study? I simply can't see you staying awake for two weeks unless your new oximeter will give you the same results as the sleep study. If so, what will you decide to do? I'm curious as I have a special needs son and we did all the tests, you know.....I will pray that he improves.
Jennifer and Warren you do what is best for Joe you know Him better than anyone else I know it scary you know your Son Best I will say Rosary 📿 and Divine Mercy chaplet for You all God bless

To funny 😅
I believe to watch Joe with a monitor is a great idea, before you commit to surgery.
Recently, I started baking my rice. I just used rice, chicken broth, butter, and some pepper.
Your doing the right thing with Joe you no him best and being hook up to wires sleeping in a strange place you don't do well.
Prayers For Joseph! & prayers for Mom & Dad to make the right decision. Just remember u do better than most! Prayers from Colorado.
Jennifer have you ever tried the tomato bouillon ? It makes terrific Mexican rice and so cheap
Sleep studies are tough. They wanted my hubby to do one...complete failure. Way too anxious with all the sensors attached.❤
Thank you Kathy; there is a wealth of good info coming through in the comments. I appreciate it.
Hi Jennifer. Love the chalk city--Maria and Peter are doing a great job. Kind of nice to see something other than hop scotch LOL! Azleigh touching the fish--priceless. Have a blessed day.
Good morning Denise. I love their creativity. Sadly, it's raining today and washing most of it away. Allow it's great for the dryness factor.
Each doctor has a different opinion about so many things so it's always important to get a couple opinions.
Maria is so pretty:)
Loved the fishing at the end! Such a sweet family ❤️
Love 💘 your videos!!!
Wow! Jennifer how many acres do you have? It looks like you have everything in your own bacyard!😊
Hope Peter bought some fishing line
Oh yeah and a new rod and reel, too.
Good morning Joe😊
Thank you for sharing that info. It’s still weighing heavily on our minds as to what our next step should be since he isn’t having any symptoms.
I would do my own research too. My brother had his tonsils out at 12 or 13 and it was hard on him.
Marie's is beautiful she is a natural beauty
Cranberry farming is so interesting, thank you for sharing
Prayers for Joe. And you also dear. Blessings
Love hanging out with you all. Hoping for positive answers for Joe.
Let us know, please, how the oxygen ring works. I think mama knows best. My parents didn’t take us to the doctor unless necessary. I might try this gadget id it works well.
I want to se more about the new farm project. It looked like a barn raising!
I like “chalk town”!
Great job Maria and Joe.🐡 🏀 Great Security Camera.👍🏻👍🏻
I would love tovhear how this oximeter panned put. ❤
❤❤❤❤
Works Every time
Thanks Kristen, I've never heard of home sleep studies so I'll have to look into that.
🙏🏾❤️
Do it in the Insta pot the rice and I’ll take five minutes
I had 2 sleep studies both was different. Both I had to be given high dose sleep meds cause I could not fall asleep. Was given sleep machine I could not sleep with air blowing so hard in my face then said I didn't need it. I do not have that much trust in sleep studies I think they should do more home studies where the person can not comfortable in their home. I am one that already does not sleep well and worse when I sleep away from my own bed.
Praying that everything works out for Joe.
Our son had his tonsils removed around Joes age, it was very painful. 😢
Yes, I’m very concerned about that. I hope it was helpful for your son.
What appliance was that that Peter wanted to use and you were showing him the air fryer line
I've had two sleep studies & as an adult they are stressful.
Funny I always wash Jasmine rice, but not another other rice. I have no idea why.
That’s just what I was thinking so I’m keeping records now for my own peace of mind.
Great idea Jennifer doing your own research for joe I am sorry but drs love to treat us like Guinea pigs sometimes and just run all sorts of tests . Especially when joe is not having an issue .
It snowed here yesterday. My garden didn’t get put away last fall due to a hurricane so I’d like to be out doing things but I can’t with the poor man’s fertilizer
I hope you can find your way to your garden soon.
I totally totally understand your hesitation. But if he is having his oxygen go low - that can be very very serious and the wear and tear on his heart is a lot. You will decide the right thing mama.
I'm very surprised that the Doctor's didn't include taking out his adenoids... Your doing right Mama Bear!!
What prompted a sleep study to be ordered in the first place?
🥰🇬🇧💐
I don’t know why you had the sleep study done to begin with. However, woukd a baby monitor let you keep an eye on him through the night?
Jennifer you are 1 one of the best Mother there are I am praying 🙏🏻 the Rosary 📿 and Divine Mercy Chapelet for You and Joe much love Cathy 🙏🏻✝️📿☮️🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💐🌹❤️☘️🍀💕❤️🩹💚💜
