    Really well presented. I have lived in Bali for four years. I studied Indonesian firstly at Darwin University and then in both Kupang and Salatiga and taught Bahasa in Australia for about ten years. I hope you will not be too angry with me for being a bit fussy about a mispronunciation. "Saya" should be pronounced more like "sigh-yah" rather than "say - ah" - a tiny little point, but since it's a very basic word and used so often, I feel that it would be best to pronounce that one correctly.

    I know this is an old video, but if you're watching this. The word "main", has a meaning. It's "to play" or "playing"
    Example:
    main sepakbola -> to play football
    main petak umpet -> to play hide and seek
    You can add "ber" to it to make it formal. But kids would use: "Main sepakbola yuk?" instead of "Mari bermain sepakbola."

      Why in the sentence :
      Bermain sepakbola, why we use ber? Why not me? Sepakbola is objek here. Why not memain sepakbola.

    Wow! A great explanation that doesn't get confusing by adding too much too soon as most do!

    hi Stew! cool video! happy to have someone teaching bahasa Indonesia in RUclips :)
    however, I think your example of 'ber-' prefix in 'bersekolah' is not quite right. Also, mainan is a toy, not a game. if you want to say a game, one has to use per-an, and make it to the word 'permainan'. Although it's correct that both change the Base word 'main' into a noun, but they end up into different meaning. IMHO :) keep going!

    Great thanks for this. can i ask why do some words in Indonesia have nya at the end. like saya namanya Jason.
    Thanks

    • @stewm9688
      @stewm9688  10 лет назад +8

      Nya - can mean his/her or the, depending on the context - your example saya namanya Jason is incorrect. If you want to say my name is Jason you would say - Nama saya Jason and if you want to say his name is Jason - Namanya Jason,
      Hope that helps
