Challenging GOOGLE MAPS Target - What Did I Find?

- For this next Google Maps Target, I head out to find an old access road that appears to have a type of structure and water source next to it. At first glance, it appears to be an easy location to get access to, but I was mistaken as this turned into a much more challenging effort than I realized. Was all the effort worth it? Is the item still there? Check out the video to find out!

It was great to be out on a new Google hunt. What did you think of the findings?
These are my favourite videos, followed by the ones where you explore abandoned known sites. That looks like a pump house.
I love your content. I get a kick out of all your stuff especially the homes. I laugh alot about that it takes my mind out of the stress of moving to centre co. I talk to your camera guy Mike alot. Im going to go bust him where he works. Hes s nice guy! Im a big fan here!

Loved it, will watch for other treks of yours :) I like the way you present it, noting things as you go, etc. I would have really liked having the coordinates from G Maps of your target location though, to follow you along the journey there on the map too.
The site seemed so remote on your Google map shot...didn't see any nearby village or farms. Cheers :)

Thats an old Chlorine building. I worked for Pa American Water for 29 yrs.
Was it for treating the water?
Yea JP years ago we got raw water they shot chlorine gas a corrosion inhibitor with zinc and maybe buffered the ph with lime or caustic soda to bring the ph to 7.5. That was it

Was the corrosion inhibitor to keep the gas from eating the pipes out.
@@justaperson8560 yes and the ph had to be buffered also because Cl2 gas lowers the ph to around 4.0. The zinc would coat the mains.
My guess: A clean water source for the mines. Drinking water for inside the mine and shower water for the shower house. The building topside had a generator to keep it all on and what could have been a chlorination apparatus. The box structure was likely a clear well to allow sediment to drop out or a sand filter for the same purpose.

If I was homeless in the NE, I would definitely seize that structure and defend it with my life. Anybody can be homeless out West, here in the NE, I respect those that can survive in our harsh winters. A friend of mine even allows some people to stay in a garage he owns as long as they maintain the property. They police themselves and sadly, a few are younger combat veterans that have been failed by the people they defended. There are very few services and outlets for vets in rural areas and they aren't exactly mobile. I'd be in that shelter in a hot minute if the need arose. I know a guy that lives in a cave here in the ADK, he got tired of begging for housing, all the drug addicts and ill eagles get it, he gets nothing, that's his America. Who wouldn't have mental health issues after going through that? There's a huge problem that needs to be addressed here in the states, let's take care of our own before we take care of anyone else.

@@notimeforthat999 Never heard of it, the cave I talked about is around Little Falls up on the mountain overlooking the town across the canal. It's huge and he's got a real nice setup, I got him some steel to keep bears out. I go up and have beers with him now and then, grill up some steak, etc. Sad that an American has to live like that, and I thought I was poor.

@@blessedhighlyfavored701 I don't have friends or family, the lonely seem to gravitate towards each other. The VA failed him, I just lend an ear and whatever I can. It's just being human, I've been where he is, it sucks. Too many people are scared of one another. I get it, but some common sense and caring can change a person's life. Trust your gut, but let your heart be open. If you've never seen a human being frozen to death, you should, because it happens way too often and it's avoidable if ignorance and fear are put aside. Most homeless are a problem, I look for those that are solutions. In rural areas, the resources are few and far between. If I can advocate for a good human, I do.
Same here in England in my area nothing for single,divorced,or widowed not much for families long waiting list for disabled and foreign get the choice pickings
Yeah, you def should include the trip in. It's part of the adventure and builds anticipation. Plus, it's nice seeing what other parts of the world look like.
the one thing i know for sure is that the first room you entered and to the left was an emergency eye wash 18:40 and an emergency shower 18:46. this would have been equipped in places that use chemicals. could have been water treatment chemicals or some kind of acid since the shower is there.
For sure, recognize the chain. That tracks with some other comments saying it was chlorine treatment for water.
I feel your pain with The mosquitoes. Chris and I recently went on a section of the D&L and the mosquitoes were outrageous. I had over 50 bites on me and I lost count on Chris. We looked like we fell into a beehive. Speaking of bees, the next section had bees nests on the ground crossing the path with hundreds of bees that we had to cross. People don’t know what we go through to produce these videos, which comes to my next point. I love that you showed the trials of getting to a place, it’s not always ice cream and lollipops. I should do a video of all the mishaps, it would probably be good for a laugh. 🤗 loved the video and thanks for reading my babbling.
I definitely recommend sharing the good and bad. Before I got comfortable on camera, I used to include my many outtakes of blunders I made.

Definitely a location to explore in the fall or early winter. I have a feeling there is more in that area that can not be seen right now.

I wish they would have dismantled that dam when it fell into disuse. Very little good comes of leaving small, unused dams in place on mountain streams. Makes things far worse when the dam eventually gives way because no one's maintaining it. Looks like an old abandoned mill of some kind, or a hydroelectric generator for powering a mine? Great video! Now go familiarize yourself with the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" :)
Awesome exploration! Awful mosquitos, though & glad you didn't disturb whatever bee/wasp nest was in the ceiling of that room! (One advantage of cold weather explores - no bugs!) Really nice mural of the yellow submarine & bright blue wavy water! Also loved the orange butterfly and toad you found.🦋🐸 I'm really curious about the purpose of that site & what the little buildings were used for. I hope you go back in cooler weather & maybe with a drone, too. It could be helpful to see where those side trails went along the way. Glad your eBike had fenders to minimize puddle splashes. Loved this adventure! Great job!!🌿💙
That's definitely one thing I love about winter adventures. I could of done without the mosquitoes.
It looks to be an old train depo house for the railway. The room with bee's was the shower and restroom. The second is the repair shop for the trains. The two on the side is a storage for supplies and maybe a bunk room. The lower building is a wash house with washer and dryer. The tank is for storing clean water. My grandfather was a coal train Engineer and talked about places like this.
A crazy place. It amazes me the places that are left abandoned over time.
How close were you to the top of the hill? That first structure is a backup power supply that once held a generator, and I think batteries that would supply power if the line power failed. There was also Telco wiring so it could communicate with a central station. I'm wondering if this might not have been a backup for a radio or cell antenna somewhere nearby. The green plumbing fitting in the first room was a safety shower, which probably means the room behind was the battery room and contained wet cell batteries. That way, if someone doing maintenance spilled battery acid on themselves they could treat it right away rather than having to go to town to get aid.
That pipe sure looks like one that would feed a turbine at the bottom or the hill. The powerhouse may be gone (or may not be), but I bet that pipe still discharges back into the creek somewhere downstream. Look for a medium sized building with power lines going to it right next to the creek somewhere down stream.
Best guess is that the backup power system was to ensure power to operate the valves in the new (lower) building which controlled water to a power plant below. I saw something very similar at the Powerdale Generating Station in Hood River OR last year and have a video up of that.

We all live in a yellow submarine..
That room looks like some type of pump room. I notice the round papers on the floor; I could zoom in and saw they are the pages that recorded flow measurements on them from old (ish) analog machines with the little arm that draws a line as the paper wheel slowly rotates. I worked at a place that used the same analog technology from the 60s thru the mid to late 90s. Very cool find.
Alot of those buildings were were abandoned after the filtration plants went online in 1993

Looks like a fire fighting support system. The pipes below are fire hydrant type. The building on top had a Kohler generator for sure in there. The bottom building looks like a water control room. The valve control on the wall were used to open and close that big man hole cover is probably a control valve to release water and was controlled by that smaller building. Working in the natural gas industry we had several control systems across 1000s of miles of 48" pipe line that looked like that. Gas or water they all are using the same technology to open and close things. Follow the pipes they should lead to your next adventure.
JP's old nemesis QT got to see this building before he did by about six years as there was a tag in that third room of the main building from 2017.

Very interesting and colorful structures and the landscape is beautiful! I think it's just so fascinating to see how these places get reclaimed by nature. Good thing those pesky mosquitos didn't carry you away lol! That bike should have a walk assist mode to power it at about 2.5 to 3 mph while you walk beside it. I think most eBikes have that now. Try holding the PAS + or - buttons for 3 seconds or so to see if that activates it. It might have to be enabled in your menu.
I love Google Maps, so I really enjoy these videos. I love how you fill them as well. I like the perspective of "being there", especially when you ride the evidence. I miss riding my bicycle so much, and this makes the videos even more appealing.😊

Well you happened to put your video out as soon as I got back from swimming...lol. Well that sure is a find..the artwork on that building is amazing! Why would all that be in the middle of nowhere? Was there once a community out there that is now gone? Strange...I wish I would have had a waterproof camera today because I was laughing my ass off while I was swimming. There was a lady in her 70s drunk as hell who fell multiple times getting into the water. She kept her beer and solo cup from going under...lol...she was talking to me and she was so drunk. She invited me over to her apartment if I ever needed someone to talk to...lol. She finished off her beer in the solo cup and said well I am drunk I think I need to get out. It took her 18 trys to get out of the water...lol...I don't think I have laughed that hard in a long time. It was hilarious!!! She would stand up to get out of the water then she would fall backwards, get up fall face first. When her feet hit land on her ass she went. I swear if I would have taken video it would have went viral. What was so hilarious was she was laughing her ass off while falling...😂😂😂😂😂😂. Really cool finds in your Google search. ✌

In that first room was a HAWS company emergency shower and eye wash station. Just inside on the left side of the door. I used to build those.
Hopefully you can go back there when the weather is cooler. I'm really curious what creek is feeding that and why it is so dirty.
One of my favorite places to explore. Taking the access road further will take you to a reservoir and eventually a scenic view, however, access to the scenic view would likely have to be on foot due to how steep the road becomes

That's a small power station. Looks like it had generator back up. The rubber hoses come out of the floor most like where cooling water for the back up generator. Is my guess. Great video👍
Probably old domestic water dam probably taken out of service 80's or 90's when they went to more modern filtration after giardia ( beaver fever) outbreak. The road at the bottom of the hill did have the gate open quite a few years ago and I may or may not have been to the top in a motor vehicle.

I like your videos and the fact you do not cut to the end but take us along for the trip. Okay, back in the day, the old timers built a lot of train tracks to move ore from their mines. From the looks of the dam and its workings, Hydropower. If you went down the valley, there would be a hydro station.

That was a long tek back. Some of the woods going in; gave off to me a creepy vibe. One lesson learned from mosquito bites is to take immediately warm showers and suds up washcloth. It does help reduce the bites.
Do all the adventures while you can brother, most of us come to a screeching halt and hobble about as we get up there in age just a bit. but thanks to you I thoroughly enjoyed my early Sunday morning stroll with you, so again good job✌ 1:47

Cool, it was still there, the odd buildings all remind me of a water filtration plant, the old abandoned railroad bridge is worthy of another adventure even if it means walking,
I saw on Newsbreak that the Oakland dam between Oakland borough and Susquehanna/Susquehanna Depot is in the first stages of being demolished, there was an brief article about it on WNEP 16
I saw that too. Never been to that area yet.

that "QT" tag (first side room of the yellow submarine) was also on the mine vent grates in the white square video that turned out to be the remnants of a shelter (yamaha tailgate place).
One could only imagine what it was used for forsure something do with the water maybe wonder how far them pipes go 🤔 very interesting find ..................

I am really really surprised you haven't been here (or the top) before. I've hiked all of those trails many times. There is a lot to see. Even from the side you started from to the farthest end and to the top. You'll be back, I'm sure.
Seems like winter time will be better to explore that area.
