Read the interview with Joan by Anthony Scaduto in his book "The Dylan Tapes" where Joan explicitly states that she slipped prescription barbiturates in Bob's coffee, without his knowledge, before shows such as the one in the film, because she did not like his stage manner. She said she sometimes double-dosed him. She did this despite the fact that she knew he liked to have wine just before the show, a very dangerous mix. She said he never knew, but would have been angry. Maybe he figured it out.

I'd never heard of that book, thank you. I'm looking into it. What you said doesn't surprise me in the least. I can't remember Bob ever mentioning Scaduto's biography -- Would be interested if he approved of that one or not.
