From Chris e. over Martina, Steffi, Monica Lindsey, .... Justine ending with the Williams sisters,
what performances. But today, and they earn mor money at Grand slam as male!!!!!
Nowadays, Lady X wins a big tournament two weeks later that play against #75 and are even not able to bring their own serve through. What a shame.

@@jjprentiss9192 No, Riggs threw the match. He was a known tennis hustler as well as a gambling addict with mob ties. He owed a lot of money to the Mafia. It’s not proven, but everything points to him having fixed the match to clear his debts.
Riggs had easily defeated Margret Court, the women’s No. 1 the month before in straight sets in a match known as the “Mothers day massacre”. That made him the heavy favourite to win. So by throwing the match he cleaned up at the bookies and so did his mob backers.
Billie wasn’t a better class of player than Court yet she supposedly beat Riggs in straight sets? The thing is she only beat him because he played far below his usual standard. Being an ex-Wimbledon champion himself, he was know for his accurate serve yet he missed half his first serves and made lots of unforced errors. The result doesn’t add up. Conclusion, he threw the match.

Battle of the sexes got Billie Jean King's equal pay for women crusade on the move and thats great. But let's be clear: Bobby Riggs 100% tanked that match to satisfy his mob bookies. He set it up by destroying Margaret Court earlier that year to set the betting line, and the bets were 40 times higher for Riggs than King , so when he flopped the bookies cleaned up, and Bobby had his debt erased.

You should not believe "urban legends" by a man (who is the ONLY person to state this happened--no one else in 46 years has ever stated that, and no one has even come forward to "back up" this man's ridiculous story since he stated it a few years ago. The man stated that he was "working late" cleaning golf clubs after midnight that evening (such dedication!) in a locker room, where mobsters decided to hold a "secret" meeting. First off, the bodyguards would have checked to see if anyone was in the vicinity to hear what was going to be said. Totally "fake news". BJK kicked his a$$.

@@steff2738 I OWN the tape. She kicked his a$$ by running him from corner to corner. By the end of the match he was literally "running on empty". Plus, he didn't train as seriously as he did for Margaret Court. He would practice 10-12 hours a day before his match against Court. After that lop-sided match, he slacked off significantly in his preparation for the Billie Jean match. BIG MISTAKE! Whereas Court folded under pressure, King was always inspired by it. Also, he played Court on a relatively slow surface, which favored his baseline game. He was so cocky that he even allowed BJK to pick the court surface of their match against each other, and, of course, she chose a fast indoor surface to accentuate her serve and volley game and exploit his baseline game. He also allowed her choice of tennis balls, and she chose lighter balls over the heavier one's used in the Court match. His own cockiness is as much to blame as her stellar play for his loss.

Bobby Riggs was a great promoter and I’ve always thought he threw that match as he had demolished Court previously. King would not agree to a rematch. Riggs was a gambling man and probably had counted on a profitable rematch. He did more for women’s tennis in the Battle of the Sexes than King did.

I've never figured out how this was such a great win for women. You had a 29-year-old woman at the top of her game, playing a 60-year-old man, who threw the match and let her win. The only thing it proves is that men are vastly superior to women, physically. Look at the state of women's tennis today. It is so bad that it is almost unwatchable, and is a dying sport. It has been dominated by Serena Williams, who is in her mid-30s, for years. Yes, she is a great athlete. But the reason she remains on top is that the rest of the field is so bad. Put Williams against any top-10 man, and she would struggle to win a point. It is what it is.

You cannot be serious, if Riggs didn’t *rig* that match (which likely he did) then he was 55 years old competing against the best female player in the planet. Don’t forget he slaughtered Court earlier that year as well.
I guess my point is that this was not a fair man vs woman fight, and getting a young man and converting him into a woman is a very lopsided battle. Scientifically a trans man still has far superior athleticism, strength and speed than a woman.
