In 1993 a high school buddy stopped to visit me in Torrance CA, and for something to do I drove with him to the Chino Air Museum, and we arrived just in time to witness SEVEN P-38's flying in mock air combat! At the time, that was ALL of the flyable P-38's! It was amazing!
Beautiful plane. I’d see these flying over my suburban hometown as a kid in the 90s, hadn’t laid eyes on one since. What a great sound and RedBull did a nice job pairing their logo with the original stylings of a WWII Lightning
The most beautiful plane ever created. Even after 80+ years in existence, this plane looks 100% modern and even futuristic. Absolutely stunning fitted out in the original "chrome" polished metal look that the prototype had.
Such a unique sound because of the turbo chargers. They soften the sound of those Allisons and make them sound buttery smooth. About as smooth as it looks and flies. Definitely one of my all time favorite aircraft of WW2.
@@jacktattisAmerican Aviation industry dwarfs the puny british aviation industry lol Small pond big fish syndrome lmao. Dont even act like that isnt the case.
Once known as Lefty's Lightning or The White Lightning. I'm glad somebody had the will and money to make her fly again. Last time I saw her was after the landing gear collapse. She looked sad, really sad. Very well done and cared for as befits her.
Imagine being at eight thousand feet by yourself just cruising doing a few cruise turns some light aileron rolls? There aren't enough words to describe how beautiful this aircraft is. How lucky all the people who flew these machines and are still flying them. Such a dream.
This P-38 Enemy plane belongs to the Red Bull fleet of Dieter Mateschitz the Boss of this company. Those fleet ist stationed in Austria 🇦🇹 Salzburg City. Greetings from Linz-Austria 🇦🇹😎👍🇦🇹💪🐺 Europe!
I'm in love. If that was mine I'd go around the country and do low high speed passes like an angel appearing from the past still protecting the homeland and fighting for my brothers on the ground.
Thats either incredibly stylized or some great DCS footage with the graphics cranked up. Either way it's gorgeous. To think my grandfather got to fly those blows my mind!
That was originally an F5G photo recon version of the late P-38L-1-LO. The previous owner, Lefty Gardner removed the chin mounted intercoolers, and the GE turbochargers, and then installed the early model cowls, in an attempt to streamline it when he raced it. It suffered an inflight fire years ago, and his son, Ladd Gardner, set it down in a cotton field. The Gardners sold it to Red Bull, and Red Bull had it rebuilt, adding the larger, longer scoops, and covers where the turbochargers were.
I have always loved the P-38, but recently learned that their pilots during the war would sometimes suffer frost bite because the cockpit didn't have heat as there isn't an engine in front of them. :( You had to be a hell of a man back in the day.
Incredible the people that put this aircraft together had a lot of talent, I wish they would have listed engines and as I recall they had special supercharger's WOW! It be great to see one with turbines and special props it would hit and get,,,!
Those are F series Allison V1710 engines. A 60° V-12, 1710 cubic inches, with a crankshaft driven centrifugal supercharger. That particular P-38 (actually an F5G) does not have its original General Electric B series turbochargers. The true hot rod would be the P-38K, which had 1875HP Allison engines and 13'-6" three blade Hamilton Standard hydrostatic high activity paddle props.
My Uncle flew one of these in WW2, he kept a two dollar bill in each boot for good luck he told me once. Must have worked because coming back from one mission he counted 59 bullet holes in his plane.I was at his place one day , there was a hole in the clouds he said I miss flying threw the eyes in the clouds.

You lucky SOB!!!
yoo that’s cool! I live near Torrance too!
Beautiful plane. I’d see these flying over my suburban hometown as a kid in the 90s, hadn’t laid eyes on one since. What a great sound and RedBull did a nice job pairing their logo with the original stylings of a WWII Lightning

For this aircraft? It doesn't matter.😎
Love how those engines cleared out and purred....

Hell Yeah. Good ol' American aviation baby! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Built and plastered with an Austrian corporation
That good ols American Aviation could not match the Spitfire my friend
@@jacktattisAmerican Aviation industry dwarfs the puny british aviation industry lol Small pond big fish syndrome lmao. Dont even act like that isnt the case.
@@supremegodemperordonaldtru3563 Regardless in ww2 you never had a fighter to match the Spitfire or a Bomber to match the Lancaster.
And I am Australian we buy your rubbish
I support Red Bull preserving these amazing aircraft.
Gorgeous aircraft.
I seriously thought this was 3d model from a game or something. That is one beautiful plane! The P38 was always one of my favorite WWII birds.

Best plane of WWII. I used to love the Mustang and Corsair, and I still do. But this airframe strikes a Bella Figura.

I'm in love. If that was mine I'd go around the country and do low high speed passes like an angel appearing from the past still protecting the homeland and fighting for my brothers on the ground.

Allisons
Absolutely not Merlins, Rolls Royce or Packard.
Those are Allison F series V-1710 engines.
Favorite plane ever made, pure elegance and beauty, yet an absolute death machine for the enemy.

Red Bull has so many different speed related machines, it's mind boggling.
