So many youtubers do decluttering videos and they might explain for one or two items and then fast forward …I think it is such a waste of my time to sit and watch a fast forwarding video ..it’s just so useless to me. So thank you so much.

    I'm totally on the page of decluttering a gifted item you don't want in your house. Someone gifted my son a HUGE playset of slime - which had always been a banned toy in my house. We politely said thank you, and then I later told my son I would replace it for him as we don't have slime in the house. It just ends up everywhere and with the kind of hound dogs I have that eat anything and everything we can't risk them getting sick over a silly toy. My son didn't even care about the slime and was more than willing to let it go. Whoever invented that stuff is an evil genius.

    • @katiegleaves3792
      @katiegleaves3792 Год назад

      @@shannontorrens1 it is so true! Especially when we haven't yet learned to curb our spending habits. I saw this in action through a dear friend of mine - we're helping each other declutter our homes, and are each other's "accountability partners."
      Well, she has been placing home delivery orders for Groceries and for Costco. Knowing that she's also been trying to SAVE money (working on cutting back on Spending, and learning Impulse Control. She doesn't enjoy shopping, but tends to buy herself something fun/tasty as a reward to make the chore of shopping more tolerable), I asked how that helps her spend less, since there's a delivery fee. She says the $10-ish fee is well worth it, because she can stick to her shopping list, which saves her from spending a lot more $$$ on "the temptation to buy whatever catches my eye if I'm walking through the store, because it's on sale or something."
      Bonus, that conversation also helped me realize that I've progressed in my journey of "acquiring less" and "spending less" (proud moment) - I have been really good about curbing the urge to buy the unplanned/eye-catching items, and sticking to my rules 😀. I may still "browse" the store while I'm there, but if it isn't on my list, it doesn't go in my cart, because it would likely become one more thing I "wasted money on, only to have to discard it later because we didn't need/use it." I've become much more intentional about what I bring into our home now.

    So funny! Love this and all of the stories. Guess what? I decluttered that EXACT same tea towel today. And mine was not even stained but it was my least favorite towel and I had also gotten some new ones recently and thought, I don't need all of these towels so I can let this go even though it's almost like new. My list of writing down one thing A-day for each day of the New Year to go out of the house is now up to 28 items so I'm past the 1 A-day because today is only the 17th lol There is always something to let go and we are all proof of it ;) I also had this seasonal plate and ceramic mug that I probably shouldn't have let come in the door. I'd still have been holding onto them thinking maybe I can put the goodies I make next year for people on or in these things. But then I thought, I have plenty of Clear treat bags and those worked great for this year tied with ribbon. So maybe I don't need to gift someone else with my unwanted items haha I mean, sometimes that is a nice idea but sometimes, we just need to let it go. So proud of your parents!! My Mom is doing the same :D :D

I had started writing my discarded/donated/decluttered items on my wall calendar, but wanted a better way to keep track of this project on its own. I was thinking about "a thing a day" but one day I did 21 items, and realized I need to declutter way more than 365 things in my overwhelming house. Then one of the other RUclipsrs I watch, posted a video about "declutter 2023 items in 2023" with a printable tallysheet! It's awesome when we find a program and inspiration that works for us, and having a way to track our progress and celebrate the milestones along the way.

I live in Florida, central, inland from the gulf. We just had a week of what "we" call extreme cold, it went down to the 30's at night for 5 nights in a row. Back in those days, many homes in this area were summer homes so they weren't as concerned with heat, plus save on the cost and lack of codes back then. Every time we gut a room and redo it down to the studs, I'm just amazed that there's no insulation. I have put the walls back together properly with insulation. One of the 1st things I did when I bought this house was have insulation blown in to the attic crawl space, you could really tell the difference not to mention so much quieter. I have central heat/ac but they are electric. The largest bill I've had in the 14 years in this house was $264.00, but we later found out a critter chewed a hole in the duct work. Had all the ducts taped and mastic and all the attic vents covered with heavy duty screen to keep out any others.
