    A way forward in gun control occurred to me. It's thinking outside the box and isn't a silver bullet, so to speak, but we could pass a law that requires gun owners, before a 1 or 2 year grace period expires, to take their firearms (or just stocks vis-a-vis rifles) down to their nearest trophy shop and get their names inscribed on their guns. In big, fancy heirloom font or tiny micro-script. This will increase the chances of lost/stolen guns getting repatriated and will make tracking guns involved in crimes faster and easier than a serial number through a vitiated ATF. And no possessor of a stolen gun is going to want to tag it, so hot guns will get even hotter. And if anyone is found with a gun not bearing their name and/or one that tracks back through the serial # to a gun reported stolen, questions will be asked. Maybe by a judge.

    There are ~100 nations that has better gun laws then the US and almost off nations have less gun violence. But here the problem kicks in - if they can solve it, and the US can't, what does this make the US? Inferior in political decision making? Inferior in societys stress management?
    It would question a lot of basic belives the US has held for a very long time, and a sudden wake up - if even possible - would leave teh most people in a pretty dark and uncomftable situation. So maybe from this point it is better to hope your own kids didn't get shot and accept the others as normal casualties of just how the world works ... for some rason.

    • @arcturus4762
      @arcturus4762 9 месяцев назад

      I'd say it's access to illegal guns. More illegal guns require more legal guns to counteract. If you got rid of illegal guns, legal gun usage would plummet. It's a problem very similar to drug trade, and making more laws isn't gonna solve it.

    • @nikitatarsov5172
      @nikitatarsov5172 9 месяцев назад

      @@arcturus4762 That would break a very complex situation down to one external source of trouble - what in itself is pretty unrealistic.
      The number of leagl guns by definition give us the setting of how easy it is that some fall through the grid and become illegal guns. When every grandfather who went to cemetry for age leaves a box with guns no one can track, than you - by definition - have alot of them.
      If anyone can carry a gun, no one sticks out by having an illegal one.
      If every shop owner has a gun under his desk, every robber need a similar or bigger gun.
      If you#re allowed to have a machinegun for fun shooting at the range, every bank robber is in theory also able to get ther hands on a military grade gun, and police responsind has to bring even bigger guns.
      Police running around like in marines Falludscha not spark much trust of citizens in ther personal safety and tend to get more guns themself.
      Adding that this overly militarised police then have a similar standing to citizenz than marines ahve to arabs in Falludscha ... there isen't much mystery to why so much violence hgappens so often and so extensive.
      Maybe where our perspective cross is that perception of safety make a lot of reason for gun ownership. And that is my point - the US doesn't have much trust. Not in the police, not the gov, not your neighbour, black vs latino, latino vs. white, white vs. all others, and vice versa. Rich against poor, poor against minority, republican vs. democrat, christian sect 1 against christian sect 2, and so on.
      This nation is at war. And where others are in social trouble as well, the US is unfortunatly armed to the teeth and life in a strange perception of being the best possible society humans can technically establish.
      That prevents (the bigger parts of) americans from realising that the're pretty down the road in culture and social cohesion. For european fascists, the US is a role model, and for everyone else its a third world nation that just have a too big army to tell them right in the face.
      So that might create some gaps in perception, depending on position.

    If a group of people is capable of releasing a fullisade of bullets its a miltia that is constitutionally required to be well regulated even if only one person is in the group.
    The court ignored the phrase well regulated militia in 2008 using "alternative" history. The defense counsel didn't provide the actual history.
    In 1789 the senate required moving that phrase to the start of the amendment inorder to approve the wording. Pacifists were a political force. And small states feared the people in the bordering states. Unregulated militia were a likely source of considerable damage just like Shay's Rebellion immediately before the constitutional was written. Having been required for ratification it can't be ignored.

    Trevor Noah: one of the few common sense voices on this whole issue.
    I'll add to his point about trying to solve it and getting rid of loopholes, speaking of loopholes, whenever talking about this issue I think it's important to remember that the people who are protecting guns so hard don't even realize they misinterpreted their own 2nd amendment so they created a loophole. The second amendment clearly states that
    "A well regulated militia, that is needed for the protection of a free state, the right to bear arms shall not be infringed"
    Notice it says Well regulated militia. What do conservatives say "the right to bear arms prevents the banning of guns" BUT THEY MISINTERPRETING THE AMENDMENT! See what misinformation does? It only took me to just look it up and refute their claims. It only applies to well regulated militia so not military or police but a group of everyday people defending the state. Mass shooters ARE NOT a Militia so nothing should be against the rules. Even Antonin Scalia in his legal opinion said "there's nothing in the constitution preventing any regulation on guns" so when they try to defend guns they quite literally have no Idea what they're saying!

Literally if someone attacks u it's either with an illegal weapon (highly unlikely) or a pocket knife, in that case just carry a pocket knife as well. U guys keep this whole thing going, ur all posessed with fear. You don't need a firearm or massive knife to protect yourself if there's nothing to protect yourself from.. people having guns makes other people feel the need to have guns because all you guys care about is your 'property' and being agressive about protecting it and yourself. If you banned guns you wouldn't have to be so paranoid about other people shooting your with their guns

      -"Are we going to seize the property and money of only people that don't have guns?" Where the heck did that come from? Nobody is talking about seizing property and money, only buying back the guns.
      -"and paying them back with their own tax dollars" Tax cuts are a reward. Tax money is definitely better used to remove guns from the streets than to sink into the already overinflated military budget.
      -"Finally, what if people resist? Are we really going to have an armed confrontation over a pistol?" Personally I don't think confiscation is necessary. Between voluntary buybacks, stricter requirements for gun purchases and better laws to prevent straw purchases the number of guns in circulation could be reduced over time. However, if it comes to the point that there is an actual ban on guns, the answer to your last question would be "yes". Many people have already shown that they are willing to have an armed confrontation about very silly things, including someone they don't like ringing the doorbell, using their yard for hide and seek, or even showing support for the pride community. These people will eventually have an armed confrontation anyways, so it might as well be against law enforcement that is ready for them. This way no innocent people are killed.

      The answer is very simple. The gun violence problem has nothing to do with guns. It is a cultural erosion issue. One that has been caused by the same idiots that focus on banning the tool. I'm all for regulation, but it's going to be a slow and painful process to do properly. Gun ownership is too ingrained into our society to just do away with by writing laws.
    The Second Amendment clearly states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Laws cannot override the Constitution, so the only way to regulate guns is to amend the Constitution. Until that time, a simple majority of five can overturn any law written regarding gun ownership. I'm no lawyer, so I have no idea how to word that, but it needs to start slowly, limiting who can own and possess, and then later on the type of weapons that can be purchased, whether it be a private transaction or commercial. I fear there is no easy way to eliminate what is already out there, but you can make it where they must be registered and licensed, cannot pass hands, and upon the death of the owner, it gets destroyed.
