Good to see Blackpool improving itself , like many been going for many years ,was there last week must have been the cleanest I've ever seen it , and with many improvements ,loved the tram ride up to Fleetwood , and sea front at bispham, wouldn't mind living there
great video i used to love blackpool as a kid in the early 80's, it was a proper british holiday , the winter gardens was amazing and used to love to go into the ball room to watch them dance, even sat on the balcony right above eric delaney while he was on his drums. good days
Thanks for watching. The Winter Gardens hasn't really changed although some parts have been restored/refurbished. I have videos of the inside from the open days.
Mrs these are gold for the future Blackpool generations There must be access to older photographs Could you post a link maybe I remember Blackpool in the early 60’s We arrived at the central station OMG I remember it like yesterday 😱😱😱😱 I’d like to see the very old Blackpool
Nice editing job, Lyca. Some places I recognised and some I didn't. Some needed a tidying up. I knew the Belle View Garage back in the 50s when it was a thriving garage with a workshop. After being closed for decades , it finally changed to a Sainsbury.
Poor Blackpool. The only town in the UK to demolish a hospital (Devonshire Road) in order to build a car park on the site...for council employees to park their cars...at rates they could not afford so it now stands empty. And to have an international airport...and close it. And to spend £22,000,000 on a street-running Tramway to carry visitors (who no longer visit) from the railway station to the promenade past all the closed down shops on Talbot Road, which in the 1960‘s was the prime retail location in Lancashire.
Good video my friend, l love Blackpool but I think they'll regret dropping some of those beautiful buildings especially the school replacing it with that modern boring architecture
The council would turn the Tower into a multistory car park if it wasn't a protected building. They seem to do ruined the majority or Blackpool and have played a large part in its demise. Take Blackpool Central Station for example.
Well done Lyca ..You certainly covered a lot of territory to document it all.......The old is certainly disappearing and there seems to be a fair bit of new development taking place....Many roads/streets hadn,t changed too much either. Some background music would have enhanced the video too
Thank you for a fascinating documentary! I never knew there had been so many high rise buildings in Blackpool. So many people displaced! Interesting to see all the changes. Some really good and some not so much. What a splendid difference the new ocean-side elevation of the Tower buildings makes. All that architecture hidden for so long. I need to watch again! :-)
This video highlights just how far Blackpool has come I wonder what the next 10 years have in store hopefully more great regeneration like Edward Street, Deansgate, Topping Street Corporation Street, Talbot Road, Premier Inn on Talbot Road plus the continuation of the tram with the demolition of Wilko creating the new Holiday Inn with tram stop and continuation of the tracks to Blackpool North and of course the conference centre
@@84derbycounty I agree entirely. We are seeing owners of buildings around the areas you mention investing in the improvement of their property. I feel the future is bright for this resort and the expense of holidays abroad will bring back more than just one day visitors and weekend visitors. Hopefully more resorts such as Morecambe will benefit in their turn.
Eryk Freethinker it's like where I'm from Derby the regeneration has been slow and some good and bad things have happened but when we have our 50m swimming pool with flames and rapids for families, the 2 flats built in the city with leisure and public spaces and the Easy Hotel it will look a lot better
@@84derbycounty If we look at what has happened as far as the whole UK is concerned I feel that the shock of the loss of the industrialisation that bought people of all classes to the resorts and eventually gave people a better lifestyle has been as long affecting us as the change from an empire nation to a lesser power. Industry and trade was the powerhouse that built Blackpool for instance - the films on this channel show so many terraces of houses with the datestones 1880 to 1910. The cotton weaving trade was lost, the coal mining and heavy engineering plus ship building went elsewhere and that has left a scar that runs wide and deep. The shortfall over the years must run into many billions. We 'can' afford £70bn for HS2 that no one wants but that needs to be put into the Northern Powerhouse to make it worth having a high speed rail network. I may be totally wrong of course - it may just be to popular given reason of cheap package holidays.
Criminal that the Victorian terraced hotels at 5.27 have been demolished, they could so easily have been converted to period flats, probably some awful looking modern block will be built there!
I'm not sure that some of it wasn't better as it was. The town with its bland new developments is beginning to look just like everywhere else, which is not good.
@@masterknife8423 it dont matter....what blackpool does.......its a place filled with scumbags.....which sadly no ammount of regeneration will cure....same all over the country........and it will only ever get worse............ex blackpool bobby for 27 years....
That what people say. I haven't eaten there since I was little, but I remember it being so good. People still say it's the best now and I'm not going to argue with them because I don't know. My personal favourite chippy is the Grasmere on the corner of Grasmere Road and Westmorland Avenue.
I love Blackpool and visit every year with my children 💚 but when I was a child the old little run down shops is what made Blackpool 😂 it sounds silly and am loving the regeneration of the town it’s fantastic! but I fell in love with the 90s Blackpool
Yeah I love Blackpool for some mad reason as well. I respect the fact that it probably has it’s rough/bad areas, but I live in Portsmouth, which is a massive shit hole. Blackpool is miles better in comparison as at least the council appear to be at least trying to fix the place up a bit.
@@TimeBunny Portsmouth isn't that bad, though that's easy to say for someone that doesn't live there! Could do with some work around Portsmouth Harbour Station though, and the Harbour.
Am I missing something. Interesting pictures but lacks commentary or at least subtitles plus background music. I love this town having grown up in Blackpool but left to get work 45 years ago. Get back when I can. 3 short visits this year.

I remember on the way home from the Tache in the 80s, we found an old football on Central Drive. We went into the football ground. Pretty easy to climb in back then. we had a little kickabout on the pitch. Don't think there were any cameras back then. It was just a bit of fun.

The next one will have titles and sound. This one was kind of an experiment. I may even re-do this one with info and music when I have time. Thanks for watching anyway.
I didn't put sound on because some people said they didn't like music on videos. So this was just an experiment. Personally I think they are better with sound so the next one will have music and info/titles too. The 'then' pics are all 10-12 years old. Not super old but old enough to inspire nostalgic memories.
After watching thousands of RUclips videos and listening to some sh!t musical backgrounds, I never thought I'd comment to say - "Interesting video - but could do with a bit of background music". I just know I'm going to regret it though! :-) But seriously, interesting video nonetheless.
Enjoyed watching the before and after photos of Blackpool, nice to see what it once was to what it is today.
I'm going to hopefully do another of those videos at some point and maybe add titles and/or commentary.
Some buildings were an improvement but some of those modern buildings.....best left unsaid.Nice video.
I really enjoyed watching your video and it enable me to see the changes and updates of Blackpool's scenery..
I'm happy you enjoyed it. Things change so quickly in Blackpool, it's nice to see how things used to be sometimes.
