    I absolutely adore Derbyshire. I've just come back today, having spent 4 nights in Ashbourne in my little touring van. I visited Bakewell. Youlgrave. Matlock. Eyam (the plague village) & Magpie Mine. Bakewell, you would both love & I think you'd find Eyam very interesting. If you go you must visit the Museum. It tells the story of how the plague came to the village. The village itself is lovely & the views as you walk to the Riley Graves are stunning. I've been visiting this beautiful county for years. There's so much to see. I hope you'll return as I know I will. Great video. The shepherd's hut is fabulous. Take care. ❤

    I was born and bred in Buxton, Richard and Julia. I used to always have a swig at that well whenever passing, right from being a child. It was always warm, and it has no impurities, just minerals in the water from the rocks it passes through, along way down. If you call at Buxton again sometime (preferably when the weather is nicer), it's worth looking in the thermal baths. Going back to Victorian times and even before that, and since, the water
    has been used in the treatment for many bodily ailments - people used to bathe in it for the likes of rheumatism, fractures and all that kind of thing. Anyhow, it's good to see you in the old place, and that accomodation on the Leek road I take it - looked grand. Take care.

    Well, I'll go to Buxton ! as they say oop North. Buxton and the Peak District are so lovely in sunny weather - I've hiked up Lantern Pike many a time. But in the rain the granite buildings are so depressing - just look at the weathered quoins and window ledges. The waters are wonderful, and the well-blessings a lovely custom. Mind you wasn't the rights to the "Buxton" water bought some time ago by Madame Perrier. Thank you for the tour Julia and Richard, and well done Julia for resisting purple frock in charity shop

    I was wondering about hiring a motorhome/campervan for a holiday this year... my main concern was whether or not there were rules about where you can park it? I gather that for electricity, gas, and changing the water, you'd want to go to a good campsite for this. However, there are some isolated areas I'd love to park at the roadside and see the stars. What are your experiences of this and have you had any problems just parking on a lay-by or side of the road? I ask this because I'm not entirely concerned about what PC Plod would say, but moreover how enforceable any rules around this are. My partner seems to think it is impossible to park a motorhome/campervan wherever you like, but to me that kind of defeats the point!

    • @the-english-couple
      @the-english-couple  7 месяцев назад +3

      The stealthier and inobtrusive one can be the better really. Our van fits under most car park height restrictions and sits not too wide in lay-bys so we have great scope for walks, tea breaks, and lunch stops. With a bigger van one would be much more restricted as to where to park. 💚💙💜

    Hello Richard an Julia we use to pass through Buxton quite often an one night my father and I parked near the centre an ventured in to that enormous dome structure that had been used as stabling at one point, it had the most unusual Resonance not so much an echo but a hummm!
    I love Canada geese it's a good sighn as they are knowledgeable about water, they favoured a lake near our old farm house, an avoided several others they'd be tens of dozens some years, an bob the neighbouring farmer told me it's because he doesn't use much chemicals on the land as it's a trout fishing lake an obviously the fields run off in to the water courses hence he was careful, so it's to me a good sign if canadas call in, the waters good, when our well fell in an the pump on the marsh blew up we'd fetch water in buckets from the stream, I'd aim to catch tadpoles an then get a glass with em in carefully not drinking them this was to impress visitors oh how wild an primitive we where, allways loved the frogs and toads looked after them.
    We'd then test it we used coffee filters an boiled it no one died, my dad had good knowledge which I'm trying to gain at the present.
    If your in that part of the world again Ashbourne is worth a stop it's retained many of its charactor shop fronts an has good fish and chips shops an the green man or saracens head is suitably old.
    Like the shepherds hut going to build a old school living van myself as there a bit more mobile.
    Cheers good fun this.
