Newegg had the 9800X3D for sale 15 minutes before the official retail release time, got mine, they were then sold out in under 12 mins, so before the official release time.
Did see they had new stock in about an hour ago. Guess they are so paranoid something won't sell they only take on a portion of what they have available from the distributor and wait to see if/when it sells before ordering more to be brought across town.
Pretty much any multi-core productivity tasks really. Surprising as it may be, there are people out there who care little about gaming performance in 720p, and in productivity tasks 285K mostly trades blows with 9950X
So much hype about production workdloads, but it only makes a difference if it would make you considerably more money, which is a tiny percentage of all sales. And a new 8 core today is faster than more cores of a few years ago. Who is handycapped here?
@@Yor-s6g Actually, that is because the GPU just can't handle 9800X3D speed, yet. You need at least 7090 or 8090 to be able to run at higher res with 9800X3D. Even 5800X3D is still beating Ultra 285 and 14900K to a pulp if you put higher res.

Now a new gen 9800x3d and still no diff. Four years later and there's no point in upgrading more or less. All these videos showing tons of benchmarks in 1080 to show the % diff seem so niche to me. Ppl with a low budget are still playing at 1080 and will not be upgrading to these expensive parts so only pros are left that need all the fps they can get on one or two fps games and certainly not in cyberpunk or horizon zero dawn or hogwarts or the last of us...
I got my 7950x 3D for $490 a few months ago so I kinda feel like I won the lottery. Happy to see the progress of AMD though. Would be nice if they keep it up.
I replaced a Ryzen 5600 which now lives in my son's PC, I wanted to get 5800x3d originally but ended up cheaper to trade games for new CPU and pay for mobo/ddr5

It's all nice to see. Fortunately, I still have my Ryzen 9 5950x, RTX 3090, and 128gb DDR4 3600 and still don't feel the need for more. It may change in the next few years. But no time really soon.
It's nice to see a CPU that actually delivers! While I am going to ride my AM4 setup with the 5800X3D a little longer, I feel better about what will be available when I do upgrade.
Thought about an entire new build this year, but honestly can’t see much benefit going from my 5800x3d to the 9800x3d when running 1440p ultrawide. Maybe just a very nice new gpu and case.
Hey Paul After I saw the benchmarks of 9800x3d, I was kinda bothered by the lack of productivity from 9800x3d other than gaming. So I just decided and went with 9900x from Amazon which is priced at 380ish. What is your thought? Is 9900x still a legit alternative?
First, get better soon. Now, finally a review that seemed more balanced. My compute needs are higher than gaming. Easier to make an informed decision with more balanced data. Will CU-DIMM, when available to AMD, make up the difference in compute? MSI stated that it would be supported but no one talks about it. Is this a future option?
Just the mention of the 285K is enough to elicit a chuckled in these videos, but I do wonder at a more realistic scenario of running full spectrum intensive (CPU-Physics-GPU) @4K how it will do considering it is better at some CPU heavy stuff.
So if you needed a do it all work station. Gaming and video and photo editing with some VFX would you go with the 9800x3d over the higher thread count cpus in the same price range?
What about RAM? Is the best RAM speed still 6000 mhz? The latest X870 and X870E m\b support up to 8000. I would really like to see another video talk about RAM speeds and the optimal one (I do know not all boards support 8000, which is why I want to know if it even matters before buying a new one (upgrading from my trusty i5 8600K).
nope you dont, if you dont feel any limitation then dont upgrade. And on that resolution, most of the issue will be on the 4090, so save that for a new gpu
Quality content as per usual, it might be worth revisiting the starfield test though. 100% something off with your starfield test... in the most demanding area's I get 80FPS on a 5950x paired with a 7900xtx at 3440x1440p all balls to the wall in terms of graphics quality, no FSR or frame gen BS. in the less demanding area's around 180 FPS and in the average area its 120-140 FPS... I do have the CPU boosting to 4.8 all core and 5.1-5.2 for single core boosting though. It could also be the game though, some potato code in that game for sure.
I was lucky and got a great combo deal with 9800X3D. No need to upgrade from a 7800X3D, but I like to tinker and the old X3D doesn't let you do that ( much ).
I have a question. I run a 7800x3d clocked to about 4.9 Ghz. It's been rock solid. Is my performance essentially the same as running the 9800X3D at or close to stock. The extra performance seems to be pretty much a result of just higher clocks, but is there any more to it than that? If not then clocking both CPUs to the same speed would give the same performance, but do they?
verry very nice cpu, 1 note a (my) 12700K on 4k gaming have the same numbers then a 7800x3d in gaming (testen with a friend) do this better? when i want this cpu i paying over 1000 bucks for a swap and the performance will be the same on 4K? My excitement will be on hold till we see the advertised price. This CPU makes sense at MSRP, but if it is going to spike above that, then it loses it's value proposition quickly.
The Intel 285K performs better by a good margin against a like-for-like competitor, being the 9950X. In gaming performance, it consumes quite a bit less power than the 9950X too.
Can hope, but not confirmed totally yet if it will definitely have 2 cache dies. And then there is still cross ccd latency through the IO die. Hoping it will be a killer
Idk why most benchmarks from almost all reviewers are done in 1080p for gaming. It would be nice to include higher resolutions for testing so we have actual practical data of how the CPU will perform in everyday use. None of us are buying it purely for metrics. Unless everyone here has a 4090 playing in 1080p exclusively... Measuring CPU alone away from GPU bottlenecks are fine before anyone says it. I just want an addition of usable info for the regular person and their games for a gaming CPU.

@@TheOli4D 7900XTX at 4K normally bottlenecks around 90fps, a lot of the time I set the game to render at 5K just to use up the extra power headroom.
@@TheOli4D MS2020 is CPU limited at all resolutions with a powerful GPU. Probably less than 10% from 1080 to 4K.

You will get less heat from it and higher low FPS that's about it on 1440p and 4k

Asrock, msi, gigabyte have updated bios for Z890 motherboards. Updates microcode and csme, etc… new intel drivers for gigabyte
