I live near Seattle. Every shooting that I’ve heard about for the past couple of years in this area is committed by teens. It has become the trend. Most, but not all, are acquiring weapons illegally on the street. Some blame video games, social media, violence in music and television, isolation, lack of personal relationships, absence of accountability by law enforcement/judges, etc. Definitely something going on with mental health in young culture that the older generations don’t quite understand. It’s become an epidemic.

I think the teen yrs. are when mental illness starts. Pressure in school to do well, parents not getting what the teen is going thru. It probably was a mostly happy home. My brother tried to stab me when he was 16. I hardly escaped with my life. We lived close to Fall City. My brother was not abused or anything. Just very entitled. My mom spoiled him rotten and he rarely was properly disciplined. I was raised by my dad who taught me respect. When it was all said and done he only served like a month in juvie & was released. The courts pretty much guilted my mom into letting him come back. I slept with a butcher knife under my mattress for years after.
Something pretty similar happened near my town a few years ago. Two teenaged brothers annihilated their entire family including their younger siblings. Heartbreaking to see these kinds of vile crimes. 😢

Well obviously their family wasn’t all what it had been cracked up to be to the people looking from the outside. This is also a perfect example for why you should not covet or envy those around you. You never know what’s truly going on with them and one of the children just brought it all to light in a very unfortunate way. I DoorDash around that area a few times a week to make extra money and always thought of Fall city as a quiet place to live until the news broke out about this tragedy. Just sad and heartbroken this keeps happening in America with our youth. Prayers for the families!!

My humble advice for parents: stop projecting your thoughts, morals, wisdom and ideas onto your children. They are separate, individual humans, trying to understand the world. Stop falling into the trap of assuming your child is “smart” because they make a good grade in school. Grades have nothing to do with understanding and applying. You need maturity to connect information you have been trained to remember to pass a test to everyday life. Your son or daughter IS NOT smart enough or mature enough to be exposed to sex and violence. They just aren’t. They don’t even understand WHY it’s not appropriate. But parents will think, “my kid is smart. they can play this game or own a weapon or watch rated R movies because they can handle it.” No they can’t. And it’s a catch 22 for them because if they tell you they can’t handle one thing, you might take away another thing. So, they’ll keep important thoughts and feelings to themselves or worse, go online and get advice from other immature people or adults who want to hurt them.
People are going to now use the line, “he was homeschooled and no socialized.” Which is dumb. They will also blame guns.. I personally don’t love guns, but you can’t take all guns away from good people.. but you do have to keep them away from people who are not mentally well.

It’s not a nice area; it’s pretty trashy, especially when it comes to families who have lived there for generations (not everyone, but look past the transplants for the real picture). Same way with North Bend, Issaquah, Snoqualmie etc. There is a ton of abuse, DV, etc that goes on.

I'm a homeschooling dad with six kids of my own. So this story really hurts to see. But yeah, I would agree with you. Something was deeply wrong with this family and there's a good chance they were using "homeschooling" as a way to mask it.
There was also a kid who did this in the Southwest a few years ago. It was a homeschooled Christian family, and one of the sons did this.
Nothing personal against homeschooling or Christianity, but some of these people may be the asocial militia types, training their kids for God knows what. There’s no reason to believe that is the case here, or when it happened to that South West family.
Could've been anything, and I'm imagining all the worst possibilities. For me, it's comforting to know the truth that the world is FAR from perfect. I believe it prepares me for impending realities.

My humble advice for parents: stop projecting your thoughts, morals, wisdom and ideas onto your children. They are separate, individual humans, trying to understand the world. Stop falling into the trap of assuming your child is “smart” because they make a good grade in school. Grades have nothing to do with understanding and applying. You need maturity to connect information you have been trained to remember to pass a test to everyday life. Your son or daughter IS NOT smart enough or mature enough to be exposed to sex and violence. They just aren’t. They don’t even understand WHY it’s not appropriate. But parents will think, “my kid is smart. they can play this game or own a weapon or watch rated R movies because they can handle it.” No they can’t. And it’s a catch 22 for them because if they tell you they can’t handle one thing, you might take away another thing. So, they’ll keep important thoughts and feelings to themselves or worse, go online and get advice from other immature people or adults who want to hurt them.

This area has struggled with Meth for years. Worked at the market in town for a few years and saw plenty.
