Most notably Outrun, the game... but 80s music had alot of simliar sounding tones. Such as the gated reverb on the snare. And a simple Kick on one and three, also snare on 2 and 4. And of course the tom rolls. All the freaking tom rolls.

This is fantastic. I'm pretty sure that playing Sega Genesis as a child influenced my love for all metal and synth music. Specifically Doom and Road Rash.
The wandering background synth sounds like it's ALMOST about to play the wandering guitar freeform solo from the 3D0 version, but never does. And that is this track's only real failing.
